Has anyone bought anything from Meh that's actually been good?
3So far, here are the things I've bought from Meh:
- A Bluetooth speaker system that was actually pretty good.
- A set of four micro USB cables, none of which worked, so I had to get a full refund.
- Some RC helicopters that are fun but have a battery life of like 10 minutes.
- Three sets of earbuds, all of which have such unbelievably low-quality sound that they're not worth using. I thought I had a high tolerance for mediocre sound quality, but these pushed right past that.
- I also got a set of Meh socks for free with my VMP membership, which are pretty good.
The speakers are probably the best things I've gotten from Meh at this point, but everything else has just been OK at best and completely busted at worst. It makes me think that Meh isn't worth my time or money at all. I wish the bar for quality here was higher because buying crappy headphones for cheap doesn't do me any good if they're so crappy that I actively never want to use them. That was $12 I won't get back -- more if you factor in the VMP membership. I don't feel encouraged to spend more money here when the majority of things I've bought have been broken or bad.
So I'm wondering: has anybody bought anything on here that they'd actually say is good? Not just "meh" or "OK" or whatever, but straight-up good.

I bought a scale back in July, it has been very handy and works like a scale. Nothing to get too excited, but it works well -- came in handy for the mehexchange and pinewood derby.
I also love the cool gear mugs/cups that can be used for hot or cold.
The kids truly enjoyed the helicopters, until one landed in the pool.
I haven't worn my socks yet, but they look good.
@mikibell I wish that scale came back. I want to buy more of them. They're great. Escali, I believe it was. It paid for itself when weighing parcels and shipping through eBay (eBay offers a discount for shipping through them).
I think you need to adjust your expectations. If you pay less than 50% than the lowest price elsewhere, there's probably a reason, and you should enjoy the risk and hope for a reward!
Almost all of my purchases have been more than satisfactory:
I've bought a really nice little bluetooth speaker early on, a perfectly acceptable emergency roadside kit, power banks that charge really slowly but work, a nice Dyson, some sweet Shrade knives, and a Car Jump Pack which mostly charges, and thankfully I haven't had to use it yet to even see if it works.
The mugs I've bought have been pretty mediocre, but I knew that going in.
@dis_member Spending half price on something that doesn't work isn't a good use of money. Each of those pairs of headphones I bought were $4 from Meh. Cheap, but awful. I just ended up replacing them all with headphones I really like for $7 each. All those $4 were just money down the drain.
@thomasella Like I said, enjoy the risk, and hope for a reward. I bought headphones that day too--the $5 version with the mic. I bought them for phone calls and music when in dire straits. I'm satisfied since they will fulfill both of those scenarios. Adjust your expectations, and if you think there's a major chance of something being crappy, just pass on it (under $10 doesn't scream quality...).
The best: two amazing Stanley travel mugs and two good Cool Gear travel mugs, all of which are in daily rotation in the household (and we still don't have enough, so sell me moar, plox! Especially the Stanley ones).
The worst: a usb turntable that I've never taken out of the box. When I bought it, I thought "hells yeah, portability! I'll set it up at my battlestation in the bedroom for when I'm too lazy to go downstairs and put records on the normal turntable!" Yeah, noooooope. Cuz I'm too lazy to bring records up and down the stairs to make it worth setting up in here. So there in the closet the box lies, ignored and unused.
The saddest: the VMP socks. I can't wear them. Nobody emailed me for them. They're just sitting on a shelf all unworn and depressed. I guess they'll just go in the next mehxchange box. Sigh.
@goldenthorn Hey, I really thought someone would take you up on your offer. Since they didn't I'd like your socks. Okay? I'll send you an email. (At least I think I still have your email.)
@goldenthorn Are the mugs the Stanley Utility Drink-Thru insulated stainless steel ones? Because if they are, I bought a 2-pack and never unwrapped them, and would be happy to send them to you. And as I was the person who sent you a satanic candle holder in the last fuku exchange, I already have your address.
@mossygreen Holy hells, woman! You are a goddess and your box was fantastic! I will gladly accept and thank you profusely, yes yes yes! Email me at turbunguin over on the gmails to please please please let me gift paypal you for them and the shipping!
@goldenthorn Sounds good, but give me a couple of days because I did open the box at one point and one seems to have rolled under something. I will find it.
@mossygreen @goldenthorn awe. some. I love this place.
I work here...so ya know, I'm really biased because it helps me stay employed if you buy the stuff we sell. That said, I've bought a lot of stuff from Meh and I've been pretty happy with almost all of it.
I use all of these purchases daily:
X-Mini Bluetooth speakers -- We don't have a TV in our living room so I use three of these hooked up to a laptop connected to an 27" IPS AOC Monitor to stream Netflix/Hulu/etc. while we watch on the couch.
I love to cook so the Jelli Cutting Boards come in handy, I think they're pretty good quality. My glassware situation was pretty bad before I got the Bormioli glasses, and I'm excited to try out my Immersion Blender when I get it.
Every night I sleep on some 350 Thread Count Pillows and under a Microfiber Comforter, both are super comfy and I think the comforter might be the best deal I've purchased here considering how great it is.
The one thing I've been disappointed by is the Bluray Player and that is only because I was using it for streaming for a while and it was GARBAGE, which is exactly what the entire writeup warned me of and it was totally right on. I have a FireTV now but I still use it as a Bluray player, so I can't say I'm all that upset about it.
I think we've offered a bunch of useful and good quality items at great prices, but again I work here so I'm biased. It's not very likely that we're ever going to have the absolute newest/latest/best products because you can't usually get those things at the prices we want to offer.
@JonT Still. It makes me miss the days when I was buying stuff like a refurbished Zune from Woot back when the Meh guys ran it. Less than $100 and I got like seven or eight years of use out of it. I would rather Meh offer better products at higher prices (still at a discount over normal retail obviously) than products that are so cheap that they sound like awesome deals until I've received them and am so dissatisfied by the quality that I end up buying something better from Amazon for a few dollars more. Like, instead of offering those terrible MyBuds earbuds for $4/each, offer the Panasonic RPHJE120, a pair of earbuds I had a year ago that my girlfriend likes so much that she refuses to give them back. I just bought three pairs on Amazon today because I can't stand the awful MyBuds I bought from Meh anymore, and each Panasonic was about $7-8 new. Meh offering a discount on that would be a fantastic deal, even if the discount is only a couple bucks, and you'd get seriously great earbuds for cheap rather than ones you'll never want to use because they're so bad. But the earbuds are only my most recent example.
@JonT Wow, do you claim all of those purchases as work expenses on your taxes? =)
"I need to buy these to keep my job..."
@JonT Do they actually ship to you, or do you get to pick up your purchases while at work?
I have used 1% of my BUILT stockpile
The Toccs bluetooth headset still works great, although still haven't resolved the driver issue in Win7, but I have better wired headphones for my PC anyway. I use the bluetooth ones with mobile devices for listening around the house.
I use the Fire HDX all the time for reading on the train and watching movies/shows in the kitchen, sometimes with the bluetooth headset.
I use the Hamilton Beach coffee maker every morning with the spider critter mug I got in my Fukubukuro.
Then, when I am feeling casual, I wear the day-zero shirt and the black meh shirt.
Bought a speaker dock, which I like more than I should. Bought the JBL Pebble speakers, which I like the amount that I should (a meh amount). Got the free socks which I haven't opened and don't really have a use for. All in all, working for me.
Ukulele! Cutting boards, jumper box, laptop bag, Kershaw knives, walkie talkies, speakers and speaker dock (well, i won the dock) have all been good purchases. My girlfriend loves the ukulele so much I had to go buy one of my own, so I bought a Les Paul acoustic/electric one.
I've bought some cheap crap too, but even those things have gotten some use. Overall I think my expectations and Meh's delivery match up pretty well. And I enjoy the VMP perks too.
I have bought multiple comforters (so warm!!), 2 for Tuesday TVs, blueray player (already had a chromecast so all I wanted was to play dvds/bluerays which it is good for), toolsets because who can keep track of a screw driver (hint: it is not me), 2 fukus, walkie talkies, probably more I can't think of. Most disappointing? mediocre socks that are too big :(
Just counted up my purchases and see I've bought from meh an even 60 times. Some were duplicates, like the comforters and the X-Mini speakers, as well as batteries.
It's easier to list the disappointments than the successes, and even most those found happy homes elsewhere.
Great Smashed-Up Mugs Fiasco, a set of Bluetooth speakers with one speaker blown, and the god-awful-knew-they-were-shit-as-I-bought-them-but-husband-insisted-soap-dispensers. The first mugs Meh refunded the money. In the case of the busted speaker, an accordance of “Tough-Shit” was agreed upon between Meh and me. And those stupid fucking soap dispensers are my husbands problem.
@Teripie Tempting me to sell those soap dispensers again just so we can use Stupid Fucking Soap Dispensers as the product title.
@dave
@dave mine never worked more than a week at a time :(
@dave I still have them in a box, waiting for summer to try out the mustard and ketchup experiment.
I've only bought one thing, the Dell Hauppauge PC TV tuner for $21 after shipping. It was a good deal (they're usually at least $50 on eBay, more elsewhere) and works well for recording broadcast shows/streaming them over Plex.
we really like the contigo travel mugs we got. and, i'm a huge fan of the quadracopter i got in my last fuku bag.
just a side note: 7-10 minutes run time for that level of RC helicopter is pretty standard.
You want good stuff, huh? Well, I've liked all of the T-shirts, especially my Kickstarter one. I've also liked the X-Mini speaker (bought a couple more on the 2 for Tuesday sale). The Phillips Home Theater sound bar for 30 bucks was a great deal. Oh, and I can't forget the three micro-fiber comforters I've purchased.
My friends and I have had lots of fun playing with the neoprene sleeves, but my "bestest" buy was my first Fuku where I was lucky enough to get a Chrome laptop.
Nope, no complaints from me.
Yeah so far for me I've done pretty well with being happy with my purchases though to be honest I haven't bought as much as I could have.
Honestly, of the 6 or 7 purchases I've made I've been happy with all of them.
The Vornado fan is fantastic. The emergency kit is in the car and while, not used yet will be invaluable should I need it. The comforter is great and everyone who has used it has loved it. All the other stuff has been just fine and exactly what I expected.
I've actually been able to make quite a few people happy with my meh purchases. My mom scored 3 built ny cases that she really loves and between the two adults and two kids in my house with our tablets and kindles galore, we use a few. My husband loves the comforter so much he burritos (that's right it's a verb now) in it and I get nada. I love the headphones I got in my fuku, and the teenager is constantly stealing them. Mainly because I bought him the jlab buds, and while from a parent standpoint they are great because he constantly breaks or loses buds, they aren't the best. I'd say we get the most out of the Cool Gear shake cups. After surgery, I have been in a big neck brace and can't drink from a normal cup because they don't reach. That and I knock things over because I have no peripheral vision. I expect we will get even more use come camping season.
I love meh. It's equal parts odd items I might not know I needed until they pop up and entertainment.
@jaremelz your not the only one with someone who Burritos, I don't think it's on purpose and I can laugh about it during the day
@Foxborn We normally use separate blankets because I'll use a heated one all the way until mid spring or so and he just likes a thin cotton one. This comforter is just perfect for each of us somehow. All I really need to do is hit him with the cold toes (if I can find him in his burrito) and ZAP, frustration resolved!
I like the chargers I've bought. Two Iogear power banks (one given away as a birthday present) and two Powernow power banks. I wear my Meh shirts all the time and am still finding uses for my NYbuilt sleeves.
There's some stuff I haven't used yet, but I'll get around to it. It was all cheap.
Let's see ...
- AA shirts! So much better than the neckstretch and/or mutant shirts from Woot.
- Battery packs. All are still regular use.
- Bluetooth speakers. The X-mini are great; the others are as good as it gets for $8.
- Vornado fan. The price war with woot was a nice touch.
- Speaker dock. Yeah, 30-pin is obsolete, but the iPup is still good with the ...
- Bluetooth audio adapters. Cheap. Works. Good enough.
- Mugs. The Stanley travel mugs still seal fine, the ceramic ones would've been better if they arrived in a needs-reassembly state.
- Cutting boards. I probably should've bought more.
- Tools, headlights, walkie-talkies, helicopters ... they were better than their price, so good enough.
- Fukubakuro. No, I didn't get one every time, but for the ones I did, they were fine in their own way.
I've been happy with all that I've bought here. It helps that I'm somewhat picky in what I buy here, and expectations are adjusted for the price.
Will it always be perfect? Probably not, but I have much greater confidence here than I do at woot.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/escali-pico-digital-scale This is a really good kitchen scale, although I wish it was a bit bigger.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/rayovac-60-pack-aa-or-48-pack-aaa-alkaline-batteries Cheap batteries. Why would anyone complain?
https://meh.com/forum/topics/cool-gear-food-storage-variety-pack These have actually been good for household storage, thanks to the compartments that help organize stuff.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/as-seen-on-tv-bundle The pancake maker is great.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/contigo-monroe-12oz-autoseal-mugs I don't usually want anything to drink while commuting, but the few miserably bitter cold days we had went a bit better because I did.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-for-tuesday-frigidaire-professional-jelli-cutting-boards Some of the best cutting boards I've ever used.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-for-tuesday-jlab-hi-fi-noise-reducing-ear-buds I've been surprised by how good these earbuds are.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/128gb-usb-3-0-flash-drive This doubled the storage on my MacBook Air with no downside.
But:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/2-for-tuesday-urge-basics-precision-touchscreen-gloves The only purchase I outright regret. We were told they fit adult hands (though they "might be snug") and they don't. I've got small hands and, when I tried one on, it ripped like Bruce Banner's shirt. This was such a lousy purchase that I no longer buy Meh products on a whim. It really has to be something that will come through.
Like @jont said, I get paid when you give us money, so I'm probably lying about anything and everything here. That said, let's go through the list (most recent on top):
ION drums - these are sitting in my basement. I got them out of the packaging, but haven't put them together. They're more "real" than I was expecting, in a good way, except it also means they're more involved to build than the cheap Rockband crap I used before.
BuiltNY - These are mostly in a pile next to my desk, but my kid did just take to stuffing his toys in one of them, and he likes the polka dots.
Shirts - Good for use as undershirts, though now that it's getting warmer I'll have to decide if I'm up for wearing my company logo potentially leading to me having to talk to people.
Cobra Power Inverter - Like we wrote in the story, I threw this in my car and have never used it. But it's there if I need it, for some reason, as long as I remember that.
Helicopters - Probably got about 3 flights before it wrecked, but my kid likes looking at the broken one still.
Bungee iPhone cords - These are the very definition of meh for me. They barely charge at all, but on the other hand I usually wouldn't be plugging my phone in while in the living room, so it's something. On my third hand, a couple just flat out broke, so those went in the trash.
Vapur Collapsible bottles - I thought these were cool. My wife didn't, I think, because I have no idea where they are, so I'm guessing they were thrown away.
Motion sensing outlet - I got this for Halloween and then never used it. It's sitting next to my desk still.
Bracketron stands - these were great until I got an iPhone 6 and for whatever reason the case didn't stick at all to them. They're still just sitting on my nightstand.
Snap Cable - I like this thing mostly because it's nice to know I've got a charger in my wallet if I really needed it, and this actually seems to charge things pretty quickly.
Batteries - Still working through them, but they're working fine. Jeez these keyboards/mouse/trackpads eat batteries.
X-Mini speaker - Thought this was cool, it's sitting unused behind my laptop. Maybe will get more use now that the weather's better and I have reason to be outside.
JBL Speaker Dock - What sucks is that this is my most used Meh thing, so I have to say I like it, after campaigning heavily for shitting on it repeatedly on the site. Damn it.
@dave I've found that folks DON'T want to talk to me when I'm wearing a meh shirt; it pretty much sums up my feelings. It's kind of the opposite of when I'm wearing certain TeeTurtle or Woot shirts. "Cool shirt - where did you get it?" or "That's so like my cat!" is typical. Except the evil white cat that regularly visits and taunts my doggie isn't even mine. :(
@dave "Motion sensing outlet - I got this for Halloween and then never used it. It's sitting next to my desk still."
I think I see your problem....
So far, the COOL GEAR STAY FIT 3-PIECE SET is the only purchase I regret.
I got a Dyson to replace a 7 year old vacuum and it works well enough. If it lasts even half as long as its predecessor, no regrets there. Time will tell.
Many of my other purchases were mediocre (as advertised) but reasonable value for what I paid.
Headphones, I only regret the headphones (all of them) and weather alert radios :D
Otherwise good stuff.
@thismyusername ok since Oregon Scientific did me so well on warranty replacement (speed and quantity) I now only regret the headphones (all of them).
I've bought a few things but my favorites are the Dyson vacuum, ceramic mug that I drink my coffee out of every day, and the Sony speaker dock I got in Fuku 2.
amazon bought woot from the guy that started meh; at the time it was a pretty good item but by now they may have used it all up. hard to tell if they were happy with their purchase, tho. does that count?
@no1 I won't be surprised if there was some buyer's remorse after they found out what made woot tick.
"Wait - this dart board was how you priced your items?!"
"When we reviewed the workplace dress code, it was just page after page of cat pawprints. What does that even mean?!"
"One of the managers here ... 'Magic Eightball' ... what's his role in your monthly meetings?"
"If every sale loses money, how does it's okay, we'll just sell more work?"
@narfcake amazon should be familiar with VOLUME VOLUME VOLUME
@no1 too funny. I vote it counts.
Great-Beats by Dre for my son at an amazing price, Eureka vacuum which is excellent for very little. Pure comfort bed. Not so great Cobra Android adapter which didn't work. Belkin keyboard. Meh, Lithium tool set. Helicopter, and glasses because one was smashed. Overall very pleased with Meh compared to others.
My wife loves the Kindle Fire
I love the 3 RC helicopters
10ft Bungee USB cables that don't bungee, they just get twisted up into knots
A Vornado Fan that reallys blows
A Bunch of great grab bag gifts like ear buds, gloves and Wallet Ninjas
Batteries and a great little scale.
2 Fuku Bags, Which really should have been 3, F'N servers
Headlamps that I used all winter while snow blowing snow at night
Batteries and Travel Mugs
Meh.com ...... Best Scam Ever!
Haven't been a member that long but everything so far has been just what I expected. In one case better than expected.
The helicopters work and fly long enough to antagonize our 3 cats and 2 dogs much to my amusement. Not the Wife's but...meh.
The Cool Gear stuff arrived intact and pretty much holds liquid.
The JBL Micro docks holds and recharges my iPhone at work. Don't use the speakers but I haven't lost my phone on my desk at work since I put it in. If you could see my desk you'd understand. The Wife has replaced the alarm clock with hers. She gets up and leaves before I do. Anyone else see the problem here? The wife doesn't.
The VMP socks are cool, comfortable, and worth every penny I paid for them. I was going to return them to @snapster to see if he would back up his claim that they would come back to me but I decided to keep them. Sorry Snapster, would've been fun watching the video of you trying to get them out of the glovebox of the '64 Buick crushed to a 2 foot square cube. Thanks again Meh! Really!
The fishing balls haven't arrived yet. I'm anxious to see what I can catch from that pond at the golf course. Should be a lot of fish in it since they removed the alligator: AKA the Florida water hazard. He got too cozy sunning on the red tee box.
Neither have the Snap Cables but I got them as back ups. I'm going to attach them (1 micro and 1 iPhone) to the recharging battery thingy with a rubber band just in case the boys borrow the regular use cables again.
The Optiled Cree LED Bulbs are still in Texas but I hope the 6 floods I bought will make the noise in the kitchen a lot less annoying. Really, every time the Wife turns on the LED spots in the kitchen pot lights she moans and groans about how their light is too narrow. I mean Jeez, there are flashlights in the junk drawer you know and no I don't know where the batteries are. Look in the boys xbox controllers like I do.
The best so far are the Belkin Bluetooth keyboards. So far I have one on everything Bluetooth and they work flawlessly! A lot better quality than I expected. If they come up again I'm in.
OK, breaks over. Back to work.
PS: Snap Cables and Fishing balls arrived today after I left for work. Yahoo!
Of the stuff I bought from Meh, the laptop backpack has been the most useful so far. I'm also slowly using up the 100-pack of AA batteries.
I love my X-Mini speakers, get comments on them anytime someone new sees them. I am still carrying the Kate Spade bag. Batteries, batteries, batteries - can never buy enough. The JBL speaker doc is a work and gets used regularly. I wear the shirts when weather permits. The Bluetooth Home Connect works great on my iHome alarm clock/dock that had the radio part of it die, I can connect my iphone 5s vs having to pull out the old generation ipod. And I can never have enough ear buds. I used my apron while cooking over the holiday.
I've never used the mini-scale, but I'm sure I will one day. Either way, great price. Same with knife/roaster set. I haven't opened the box with the helicopters in it yet, I'll do it eventually and give them to my nephew. I bought a power bank but haven't actually needed to use it. There's a few other items like that. The only Fuku I scored was the kickstarter, and it was worse than any box of crap I had ever received, but it's like gambling, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
I'm typing this while lying on a mattress I bought from meh. I'm super happy with it.
I like the Urge M6 Bluetooth speaker. It's great for playing music when we're in a motel room. We used it last weekend in Yosemite. Our friends' 9-year-old son really liked it so I'm going to send him one of the ones I bought in a two-fer-Tuesday sale. The purple one.
The Dyson is working great.
I use the micro suction cup cell phone stand every day at work.
The cutting boards get used almost every day.
I'm almost out of batteries.
One mug was broken. I gave one to our receptionist. The third one has never been used. Neither have the cedar grilling planks and wraps.
I gave the blu-ray player to the thrift store without using it because it didn't have an elapsed time display.
There are still a lot of things I haven't listed. But it's bedtime.
@SSteve I love purple.
TL;DR
I suggest that you be pickier on your mehs.
+The Vermont American toolset has come in handy once
+The Oregon Scientific weather radio is working fine. I must be the only one.
-The TOCCS Snap Cable Thingy really kinda sucks, but I think it'll fit inside my MintyBoost box.
http://www.adafruit.com/product/14
+The Kershaw knife/saw combo is pretty awesome.
All in all I have positive product experiences.
2-FOR-TUESDAY: STANLEY UTILITY DRINK-THRU INSULATED MUGS
Use daily. Love them.
@un0 I FREAKING LOVE THOSE MUGS!
@dave @snapster @jont Please find another cargo container full of these things so I can have MOAR MUGZ!
Most of the useful stuff I got from Meh came from Fukus including a really great Cuisinart knife block set (thats why I didnt buy the steak knives), a Moscow Mule Mug, a dirty blanket from the ware house floor that my dog loves, a Camp Kachina Trophy that makes me laugh uncontrolably, and some travel mugs. As far as individual items that I've bought and use regularly are the X-Kai Mini speaker, one of the box bluetooth speakers that came in lots of colors, some crystal wine glasses, a few (of many) BUILT neoprene cases, some flash drives, crappy earbuds, and a knife and weather radio that I keep in my gun bag.
EDIT: forgot the shirts and universal power cable and vehicle power inverter.
@RedHot Holy Shit I buy a lot of stuff at Meh. A lot of the stuff listed (speakers, radios, etc.) I bought mulitple of for xmas gifts.
I've bought bunches of stuff, and as far as I can recall, I've been happy with all of my purchases. Especially those microfiber comforters. I'm up to four of those now, and will probably keep buying at least one each time they get put up for sale. I totally love them.
@Pony It was hard for me to resist last time they came up but I live alone, have tons of blankets already, and already bought 2 for me and about 5 for others
yes
And lots of other stuff (35 buys) that, while not awesome, has been at least meh and has made a lot of people think I may be just a little awesome without them knowing I'm really just cheap.
Thanks, meh, looking back over this was fun
Absolutely!
Here are the best things I've bought from here, in no particular order:
Now for the worst items I've bought:
Well, I haven't bought all that much because I only buy things that I could really use. I bought the Capresso coffee pot to replace my old one which was taking way too long to brew coffee. It's been good, though the pot backfires and makes a mess if you're not careful.
The only other thing that I've bought is the Innergie laptop charger sold recently, which has been awesome to have. I take my laptop with me everywhere and having a second charger is a godsend.
Yep. I bought the hot/cold tumblers (I got red and blue; perfect being a Royals/Chiefs fan) which I love. On the 2ferTuesday I got the 2 39" TV's a while back. Both still work, and I felt like were a fine deal. Also got my wife one of the refurb roomba's, which is a price I've yet to see anyone else beat.
Complaining about $4 headphones seems to be a little overly critical... I believe I have the same ones sitting here on my desk at work, and I have zero issues with them. They work, came with different sized earbuds, and have inline volume, which I've found to be somewhat useful. I also didn't expect them to perform like a pair of Beats, either...
I gave the $4 ear buds to 14 year old kid that loses stuff or breaks them regularly. Even when I told him that the grownups on Meh thought they were hideous, he insisted that they sounded fine. Perhaps that is just teenage stubbornness.
And the Pebbles speakers ROCK! I actually only have one plugged in right now (the intra-speaker cable is not long enough to span the length of my desk cat's bed) but I am able to listen to stuff very easily.
What do I regret? The tablet case bluetooth keyboard thingy. I used it once. Not worth it at all for me.
Fairly sure most RC copters only have a 10-15min battery life. They are tiny so not like the battery can be that big.

@StrangerDanger I think you may have a compulsive shopping issue!
@pitamuffin Yea didn't realize how much I bought untill I tried to list it all out
Neoprene Pile. Between us and friends/family we used about 12 of our 30 neoprene cases directly for gadgets. My girlfriend had a white elephant at work for which I did one of those Russian doll things and stuffed 7-8 of the cases inside each other. I didn't see the outcome, but apparently hilarity was involved in the unwrapping. And then my friends kid had an interest in just having the remaining 10 or so. He's a teenager in puberty, so I didn't ask what he wanted to use them for. This was all worth well more than the $8 or whatever I paid.
I also received 4 decent t-shirts for $10. Some cheap cups with straws that we use on car rides all the time. And a computer tv tuner that actually works; we didn't have broadcast tv at home before this. and some socks for free, which i use.
Things I actually use: IP camera I was accidentally sent, batteries, Kershaw knife, t-shirts, Vermont American tool set, Neato from Fuku, Memory foam pillows from Fuku, Cobra power inverter, Kalorik deep fryer, Contigo auto seal mug, emergency car kit (well, it's in my car), iPup speaker dock, Energizer headlamp, AOC 24" monitor, Kindle tablets, Roomba
Things that were broken: 1/6 RC helicopters broken, AOC monitor missing a power pack (replaced via manufacturer), StayCool lunch set used (refunded), Powernow 10K battery did not charge (refunded).
Things I don't use: Headphones, bluetooth keyboards, two way radios, various Innergie products, Schrade knives, iced coffee maker, touch screen gloves.
In retrospect, I am way ahead. A few of these things were really awesome deals (deep fryer), even though getting broken/wrong stuff can be a hassle.
The socks were the best thing I got. The sphero 2.0 is fun too. Besides that, Meh.
I like the Meh socks. The DC Laptop Adapter has been awesome. I use the hell out of my multi-device Bluetooth keyboard (I need to get a multi-device mouse to match it.. the trackpad on that thing isn't so good..) .. I'm pretty sure there are some other things that I bought before Xmas last year, that I've got some use out of, as well as several items that I gave as gifts..
And I use the hell out of my Neato robots, too.. except that they broke just outside of their 90 day warranty.. but Neato replaced them anyway.. with units that work better, but still not 100%.
Used the touchscreen gloves a ton during the winter too. No one liked the fact that they were white, but I still wore them all the time.
Sadly, I think I've only bought one thing (laptop AC adapters) this year.
Qualify "good." I got one of those dome-shaped Bluetooth speakers; it works well enough, and is an especially good value (better than what you would expect for the price). I got a 128GB thumb drive and my entire audio collection is on it and plugged in to my car (which can play them). Thirty bucks was pretty good for that. The 10k mAh power banks ($14 each) hold up very well, and they're purple -- Barney would approve. All in all, I believe they provide a good value. You just need to determine for yourself if it's appropriate for you.
The "jumbo" pillows aren't very jumbo-y, but are quite pillowy, comfortable, and were a steal at $28 for 4.
The Cobra (You're the disease, and I'm the cure.) two-way radios were exactly as described in that they aren't anywhere near useable at 16 miles apart, but work fine at 3 to 4 miles away. Also a steal at $10.
The Meh socks are comfy, and I kept the hilarious tags they came with, and were the best price: free!
The best so far is my Solo Laptop Backpack, which I use nearly everyday, and on long trips, and it's held up extraordinarily well. $15 well spent.
The worst: The fukubukuro because only one thing in mine was particularly nice. But that one thing, some nice earbuds, was worth more than the $5 I spent.
However, I've generally been careful with my purchases from any deal-a-day site, and Meh has been no exception. For my buying habits, VMP isn't really a value (other than the free one they gifted us, and mostly because of the socks.) But I think whether you are a "research shopper" like myself, or are more "BUY ALL THE THINGS!!!" like others, you're likely to get a better deal here than any other deal-a-day site out there.
@thomasella i think the bottom line is that the reason why you are disappointed is because you're buying the crappiest of crap. items here are either true crap and blown out (largely your purchases) or really great stuff at a really reasonable price.
@marklog Yeah, and that's why I was asking if that's just me buying stuff that's too cheap or if that's pretty much everything that's being offered. So I'm glad I asked because people have bought a lot of cool stuff. I do wish they'd have a little more quality control with the cheaper stuff -- I gave the example of the earbuds and they easily could've bought quality earbuds for similarly cheap prices if they wanted to. But still, I'm glad I asked.
@thomasella quality control assumes that there is quality to begin with- or the expectation of quality. read the copy before you purchase. @jasontoon and co do a pretty darned good job of letting you know what you're getting yourself into.
@marklog I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation for a store that picks and chooses what ONE item they sell a day to ask them not to sell bad products, especially when there are legitimately great alternatives for a couple bucks more.
@thomasella except for when they tell you it's a bad product.
@marklog "Hey, this is only $4, but it's a bad product; don't buy it" sounds way lamer to me than "Hey, this is only $5 and it's seriously fantastic; definitely buy it."
@thomasella Remember that in the pet toy thread, some people refused not to blame the victim. There's a Stockholm Syndrome here where it's great for Meh to sell anything to people and it's your fault if you actually open it up.
@thomasella I totally agree with you. What do you do when you only have the $4 product to sell?
@marklog This is where my argument starts to fall apart because I don't actually know how the deal-a-day business works, like if Meh approaches or gets approached for bulk deals. Either way, I'd say they should just decline deals for products that are undeniably bad and instead pursue products of a similar type. Like you can get Panasonic RPHJE120A earbuds from Amazon right now for $7 a pop ($6 if you go with violet) and they're seriously fantastic earbuds, especially for the price but even regardless. If they managed to sell those at $4 or even $5, it'd be an incredible deal. The MyBuds I bought from Meh costs $10 to $11 a pop on Amazon or Newegg but they're probably the worst earbuds I've ever used, so Meh's $4 deal was still an awful deal.
@thomasella I'm not on the buying side so I can't speak with complete confidence, but I can confidently say this: it's not that easy. There are a lot of reasons that we wouldn't be able to buy/sell the Panasonic earbuds you mentioned, maybe none of our buyers have a relationship with them, maybe they refuse to come down on price because it's already so low, maybe the cost for them to ship to us is far too high, maybe they refuse to have that item on a daily deal site (it happens). Our buyers don't go to a company with the pitch, "I want to get your worst, most busted product that just flat out doesn't work", that just doesn't happen. But it's also not as simple as "hey this thing is the best reviewed product in this category, we should buy it for cheap enough to sell at a huge discount".
The 24-pack of colostomy bags worked out pretty well for me. I think that was only offered on the "secret" site, though, so I'm not sure how many of you saw and bought 'em. Good value, they were OEM but with a branding/printing error on the side ("Pittsburgh Fenguins," it read, what ever happened to proper proofreading?), hence the deal.
@defibrillator poop.meh.com?
@defibrillator DIY bags of crap?
I'll go through my purchases:
(TL:DR: Bought a ton of stuff, only a couple things that turned out to be junk)
2/26/15 - Microfiber Comforter (King Size) - This thing is warm, well worth the $20 spent
1/27/15 - Cool Gear Mason Mugs - For my wife and she loves them
1/14/15 - Fuku #4- Naturally worth the $5
1/8/15 - Toccs Manhattan Bluetooth Headphones - Junk. Broke after two pairings, can't pair anymore. Tried a lot of the suggestions but gave up since I got noise canceling headphones in my Fuku #4.
1/7/15 - Foscam IP Camera - Works as advertised.
12/22/14 - Cobra Power Inberter - Bought 2, one for each car. Have been used on multiple road trips. works as advertised.
12/11/14 - Accu Helicoter - Junk - Worked twice then stopped working.
11/14/14 - Fuku #3 - Took 3 months to get, and okay. Worth the #5
11/8/14 - K'Nex Building set - Bought 2 for friend to give as childrens birthday gifts.
11/2/14 - Solo Backpack - Gave it to Father-In-Law. Has held up well for someone who travels 2 weeks out of every month.
10/22/14 - Kalorik deep fryer- Saldy just tried to use this last night and found it has now broken. This thing is awesome. Used it quite a few times (~20-30). I'd buy 2 if they get sold again.
10/18/14 - Couch Keyboard - Handy to have for server. Works as described. A little shitty, but it was $12 and it works.
9/25/14 - Blu-Ray player - Works great, a little loud, but for $15, totally worth it.
9/17/14 - Fuku - Worth the $5.
9/9/14 - Brackentron Stands - Awesome stands. Use 1 every day at work.
9/6/14 - MIO drive watch - Wife uses this excercising. No idea if heart rate is accurate, but it does read.
9/4/14 - Neato - Worth every penny. Wish I bought 2. Helps that I got some money back because I ended up with the ugly ass white/purple one.
8/22/14 - Meh Shirt - Wear it all the time. good quality
8/19/14 - Ninja Wallets - Keep them in cars, bent one trying to unscrew a racked server. No surprise though.
8/4/14 - Powernow power bank - Use this on a regular basis. Thing is a beast.
7/24/14 - Escali Scale - Use it regularly for baking bread. Accurate to what I need and still works after all this time.
7/8/14 - Day Zero Shirt - comfortable. Wear it all the time.
This is also ignoring the free phone "cables" and socks that I got for being an VMP. Both of with are nice. Cables don't get used much because they're a bit awkward. Socks are cool though, a little thin for my liking.
So, if you read all that, you'd find there are only a few items I've purchased that I haven't been happy with. None of which are Meh's fault.
I like purple.
@Bogie You're the first to mention the K'Nex 618-Piece Building Set - it was $10! My favorite and best buy to date.
The Cool Gear mug is very good at holding liquids.
The UV vacuum cleaner gets a lot of dust off my furniture, and maybe kills stuff with the UV light. My vacuum only can do floors, so that was an important purchase.
The meh T-shirt was good, but I didn't order one size larger than normal so I had to donate it :(.
The other purchases were duds, but at a total cost around 40 bucks for the other items, that isn't bad over 8 months.
The "barware set" of glasses have been good thus far (no breaks yet even - knock on wood).
The Sony (fuku) iPod dock has been great (wish it were the Lightning plug one though now.)
The (VMP) socks are... socks and the AA batteries are batteries...
One of the BT sounddome speakers gets used at least weekly.
My 14 year old likes the Panasonic tooth brush as much as a 14 y.o. can like a toothbrush...
My 6 y.o. twins still fly the helicopters regularly.
At least 6% of the neoprene cases I got are in daily use.
LOVE the Meh American Apparel shirt to the point I wish I'd purchased another 2 or 3 (and fits me perfectly).
The CoD Xbox gaming headset (fuku)gets used more than I ever thought it would (by said 14 y.o. playing Destiny on a PS3)
The Little Miss Sunshine rug (fuku) is in regular rotation in my kids bathroom.
The Neato vacuum still gets used regularly with good results. I'll buy another one of these days.
I use the (VMP) iphone and microUSB cables on occasion, but they are my emergency backups, so they've filled their role well.
I'm fairly certain there are some fuku items I'm leaving out that have just become part of my regular life so I don't think about them.
Honestly, I don't have a lot to complain about - except that this little exercise showed me just how much I've purchased. Sheesh...
I just looked over my purchases -- some Bluetooth speakers, some battery chargers -- and one thing really stands out that I'm happy with. Probably the most unassuming and yet life-changing thing I've bought from Meh is a little kitchen scale. It was $4. I use it every time I bake challah now. Part of that process involves separating the dough into loaf-size pieces, then those down into quarters for the braids. The scale is basic and reliable and gets the job done.
I am also happy with a traded BuiltNY laptop case, and we've been using other cases (of the 90 I have) for various other things.
@Trin that tiny scale is super useful. I use mine to calculate shipping costs.
This thread has caused me to re-evaluate my life (and spending habits) so thanks for that.
DAY ZERO T-SHIRT - I get compliments on it when I wear it. So for $1, yes it was good.
2-FOR-TUESDAY: EWAVE AUTOMATIC SOAP & SANITIZER DISPENSER - Gave one as gift. The other broke. Not good.
ESCALI PICO DIGITAL SCALE - Use it as a postage scale. Good.
POWERNOW 10K MAH POWER BANK - Gave as a gift.
CONTIGO 16OZ WEST LOOP AUTOSEAL TRAVEL MUG - Gave as a gift.
MEH AMERICAN APPAREL T-SHIRT - Again, a shirt for $1. Yeah it's good.
IPIG OR IPUP SPEAKER DOCK - Sold on Amazon at profit, so yes this was good.
2-FOR-TUESDAY: BRACKETRON STANDS - Junk. My phone slides off.
COOL GEAR FOOD STORAGE VARIETY PACK - My best Meh. I use these every single day for bringing food to work/class. The built in ice pack is a genius feature and I love these.
SYLVANIA MOTION SENSING OUTLET - Sitting in my garage, package unopened.
TOSHIBA AA ALKALINE BATTERIES (40-PACK) - 40 batteries, $5. Yeah these are good.
BELKIN BLUETOOTH KEYBOARD - I don't remember what I did with this...?
LAPTOP BACKPACK WITH TABLET COMPARTMENT - Ended up not liking it, gave it to someone else.
HIGH DOME ROASTER & THERMOMETER - I cooked my Thanksgiving turkey in it, so it did it's job and it did it well. Good.
CONTIGO AUTOSEAL SWISH 17OZ WATER BOTTLE - Use this daily. Good.
TWO-FOR-TUESDAY: VAPUR CLASSIC COLLAPSIBLE BOTTLE - Still have not opened these, but for $3 for two they are basically disposable. Will use for hiking this summer.
ONEIDA 20 PIECE FLATWARE SET - Use. Not the best quality flatware but it's Meh afterall. For the price, good.
IOGEAR POCKETABLE POWER BANK - Gave as gift.
COOL GEAR 10-PIECE FOOD STORAGE BUNDLE - Bought because of how much I loved the previous CoolGear products Meh sold (see above) and I use these frequently as well. Huge fan.
ACCU FORCE 3.5 CHANNEL HELICOPTER - Gave as gift.
OREGON SCIENTIFIC ONE-TOUCH HEART RATE MONITOR WITH CALORIE COUNTER - Total crap. Regret buying. Got a Fitbit Charge HR instead.
COBRA POWER INVERTER - Sitting in my glove box unused.
COOL GEAR STAY FIT 3-PIECE SET - See previous mention of Cool Gear products.
AS SEEN ON TV BUNDLE - Sold the money clip on eBay at profit. Used the drain unclogger. The rest is unopened in my garage.
2-FOR-TUESDAY: JLAB HI-FI NOISE-REDUCING EAR BUDS - Gave as gifts.
ALMOST BLANK MEH AMERICAN APPAREL SHIRT - A shirt. A cheap shirt. Good.
2-FOR-TUESDAY: CONTIGO 18OZ SHAKE & GO TUMBLERS - Use at home, love them. Good.
TOCCS MANHATTAN BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES - Total crap.
FUKUBUKURO 4: #FUKUBUKURO - Just wanted the Fuku.
SLAZENGER RAW DISTANCE SPIN GOLF BALL 15-PACK - Just got these in the mail Thursday. Have not used yet.
Reverse order of stuff I have used (not everything I bought) -
The Optiled Cree LED Bulb (I literally bought the last one) is super bright and so far is a great addition to the baby's room - it doesn't heat up so I don't worry about it being accidentally touched.
The Built NY Assorted Bundle - I have made my money back on it by selling them at work for like a buck or two and they were very handy to use as shipping materials.
The Meh Shirts . Super comfy and always get a reaction.
Obviously the Fukus have had some fun stuff in them.
The Vermont American Tool Bundle has proved to be quite adequate for the quick things I needed it to do (screw in a screw)
I use the Jelli Cutting Boards on a daily basis. Top notch.
The Shake & Go Tumblers are great to mix the protein shakes I sometimes like to consume. Or, better yet, NesQuik.
My wife uses the Speaker Dock a lot to charge her phone while listening to tunes.
The Power Bank when it finally worked after a customer service problem with Tenergy - is great to charge my Kindle. So thumbs up there.
and the Cedar Grilling planks made delicious Salmon and will continue to impart wonderful flavor when I get the grill going again.
TL;DR - I count at least 14 things that I bought that I don't regret at all. Oh and batteries. Lots and lots of batteries that I use to power my day. So ... pretty happy.
I can't believe @unixrab is missing from this thread.
@editorkid holy shnikeys!! This thread is enormous....but I'll play:
Yes. I've purchased 4 things from meh.com since launch 7/14 and 3 have been useful:
3 useful items in 7.5 months.
@unixrab Hoarder.
Everything I've bought from meh has come in useful. Even the multi-laptop charger that I bought on a whim for an old laptop.
Turned out the laptop charging port was broken and it was incompatible with my current laptop so I threw it in a drawer and figured i wasted the money. About a week or so later I'm rummaging through the closet and find an old portable printer that was missing the power cable. BAM I have a use for it.
i have gotten rid of all of my build neoprene except the ones i use, i am using my comforter now, i wear my meh shirts to work often, i'm saving my meh socks for a special occasion, supporting my ragnar relay team in 2 weeks, in my first fuku i received a speakerdock my bf uses, the headlamps came tot he rescue for the above mentioned ragnar relay team last year. so far the only things i have found less than useful were hte mio watch and the belkin bluetooth keyboards, and those were because i overestimated my want to use such products. everything else is used and loved.
Our family of 6 is way way ahead. What we haven't used for ourselves, or planned to give as gifts we've sold. Our best / most favored buy was the K'Nex 618-Piece Building Set for $10. I could only buy three, and no joke I would have bought 20. The best socially awesome thing has been the neoprene cases for our school and library. The wife loves the contigo and other mugs. I love that the wife loves the mugs. happy wife = happy life. Of the 40 or so orders, I've only had 3-4 bad purchases. I'll take those odds.
And, please, meh folks - if you're into requests, the K'Nex were great. I'd buy 10 @ 10 just to have my kids drop them into toys for tots when no one is watching them actually do it. What great gifts for holiday collections.
I haven't bought much, but what I have bought I have been very pleased with. The OBSOLETE HEART RATE MONITOR WATCHES are great (I had to replace the bands, but still a steal), and the Built NY Bundle keeps giving almost every day.
The thing that I get the most use out of is this thing from a 2-For-Tuesday deal:
Do not buy anything on Meh, they are not a respectable company! Beware
@schmaltzman That’s your conclusion after 2 whole purchases, huh?
@Kyeh
nice resurrection of a necropost tho!
@chienfou Yeah, really!
@Kyeh
kinda weird that after 51/2 yrs and 2 purchases they pipe up NOW with this resurrected thread.
@schmaltzman should I return all the stuff I’ve already bought?
/giphy necro postal
Conversely, I’d have to think to remember anything I’ve bought here that I didn’t like or at least get value out of. I’m always happy to save money here, vs. paying a much higher price for a very similar (or the exact same) product elsewhere.
The only times I’ve ever had a legitimate problem with a product, Meh has cheerily replaced or refunded. I’m a happy customer here.
@PooltoyWolf
Hear, Hear!
Let’s see…
-Shirts, shirts, shirts, more than i care to admit…
-There’s This TV I bought in August 2014, used it daily until I saw a great deal at work for a 50"LG sometime in '22 (the old philips is now in the guest bedroom, with a Roku hooked up to it.)
a couple of comforters still in rotation.
oh yeah! my Routers! Purchased in march 2015, flashed 'em to DDWRT, still working strong.
My Glasses for a couple yearsBought these rayban frames, had my precription put in a couple times. currently sitting in the sunglass cubby in my car as a backup pair.
A Whole Mess of KN95, and n95 masks.
total of about 250 masks, over 5 orders…still have plenty…
-this vaccine card Holder still have it with me every day, has my vaccine Cards, DL, and a Copy of my proof of car insurance. other cards in the actual wallet.
( bought them 'cuz a friend and I were going to a concert, and you needed both your ID, and Proof of Vaccination for entry…plus… could be Psychic Paper Cosplay…
I check daily and buy occasionally. I have used everything I bought, though a few found alternate uses. The absolute best item was the ION shower radio! It hung for several years high on the inside of my shower curtain. In addition to FM radio it could bluetooth to other devices. One could even connect to the phone (but who would do THAT In the shower!) I still miss it and hope meh brings us another shower radio.
Food and Foodi.
The Ninja brand is very nice/pretty good, even for a refurb. The multi-cooker/air-fryer is a nice space saver, and very much a gas saver (as in I can go all electric in my kitchen) though not exactly a time saver (it doesn’t take any less or more to cook the same amount of food) I’ve used it almost every day for a year and only had to tinker with it twice (to clean some really hard to reach parts).
The food products are, when I’m careful, very nice. I’ve bought dozens of holiday cookies, beef jerky packs, graham crackers, protein bars, peanut butter cups, and most recently compressed fruit. All at or below Walmart prices when accounting for shipping. Granted, these were all brands I liked or knew of already so I’m also picky about buying “new” things.
Not sure if I bought my shark vacuum from.here.or woot, but it’s still going strong years later. Many people mention the x-mini speakers… Plus one from me.
Comfort Republic undies are fantastic. Although I’ve been burned by IRKs, a couple have been fantastic deals.
The USB power bank fans were a big hit one Xmas. Think kids long since lost parts of theirs, but my Mum still takes hers with her everywhere
.
Power banks in general go camping with us.
Our dog’s favourite toy is still the cleaning dog toys from COVID era. (Bear wearing mask, and fake toy cleaning bottle)…
… Admittedly, a significant percent of what is bought from here ends up just being junk though (sorry meh) but I’ve had some great buys here.
@OnionSoup I bought a shark on here ages ago. Still going strong and glad I have it.
bedsides my comforter(s) that get daily use on the beds, my most used product is probably
