@snapster I agree about the torture, but I can imagine. I watched the load page spin for 45 minutes last night. I would have convinced myself to stay awake for 15 minutes more for the next hours worth, prompting me to stay awake until the page loaded. FYI @packer I am crabby and tired I stayed up past my bed time and did not get a BOC.
@mediocrebot - Same as a lot of people, due to craptastic website I tried to get one of these last night for an hour just to be rewarded with "Something went terribly wrong". Hoping that Meh gets their web server running on something other then ganged up speaker docks soon.
@ledieudufromage Is that what bloody happened? I tried to go to meh.com at 10:10 (10 is when it changes in my timezone) and the server was down (according to isitdownrightnow.com) so I tried again at 11 only to have it say something went terribly wrong so I went to bed, woke up and sold out. Good thing I got a BOC from woot already this week. Bloody meh website crashing.
@caffeine_dude I waited 15 minutes for the site to load the other night for the roadside emergency kit. When things wouldn't load last night for upwards of 45 minutes, I knew I was missing a fukubukuro. Well, either that or a really sweet speaker dock.
@janetv Mine stuck on the order page at 12:36. Kept saying something went wrong, kept clicking try again. After 10 tries I gave up. Could have got one if I'd kept doing it, meh, just goes to show I'm a quitter.
Holy moly. Got logged in and redirected to Mediocre's site instead of checkout. Thought for sure the Bags-o-Crap would be gone and I'd have to jump on the goat-blaming bandwagon. However, bodacious-exponential-humor saved the day.
@djugurba happened to me, I got in almost instantly, but had to log in. Then the server got hit hard and I had to wait roughly half an hour to get to the order page and check out. Infinite green bar then, tried several times.
I was hoping they weren't sold out. And I got one :D yay
Flashbacks of Woot's servers. Ok Irk, let's hear it!!!! E-commerce website servers not ready to handle the influx of traffic they were meant to handle the other 23:59 minutes of the day. Maybe it bothers me more than it should. ^oo^
No idea whether I got one - endless green bar, followed by "oops, try again", followed by endless green bar, followed by "you can't order another, you ordered one already" - and the "My Orders" page won't load at all...
@khunjeff Same here, but finally got the My Orders page and it looks like it went through. Double-checked my credit card, and it does look like it was charged. So... should we expect a confirmation email at some point? I just feel weird about it since I never saw an order confirmation page.
occasional-ageless-glove!! Was clicking the green button and it kept saying something won't terribly wrong, then one time it just took me to a blank page. Managed to get the order screen back up, and then the green button started saying I couldn't order, because I already got one. Checked my order history and..... occasional-ageless-glove! So I think I got one.
@Santo In my case it meant I got one. A lot of people keep refreshing/spamming multiple windows while it is best to just let it play out. I bought at 11 even charged at 11:03 couldn't get to order page to verify until after 11:30. My green bar vanished and kicked me back to main page around 11:10 but it went through. Best of luck!
I kept missing out on these Fuku bags! The demand for the site was insane so I crossed my fingers it was something good! YAY! My order went through and I can't wait to see what it is!!! I mean, I have to wait.. but I don't wanna! tyrannical-aquatic-hamster!
29 minutes of refresh refresh refresh. Felt like back in the early 90s when I was trying to load risque pictures on my 14.4k baud modem. At least no one picked the phone up right before the naughty bits were revealed this time.
@Thumperchick You are correct, it is VMP, either auto correct, or auto tired is at fault for my comment indicating VIP. I still think it would be a good perk to have a 5 minute preview for VMP members, as not everyone has ordered in the last month and would encourage more VMP membership.
@DaniDew Not for me, it's a autocharge on your method of payment at same time every month. When I first signed up I was charged $5 right away in a seperate charge. Didn't get the "free month" to cancel like people were saying in the orginial announcement thread/FAQ for it.
@BabyBear I recently had to change my credit card on file to a new one... But meh did it just fine... Unless it stored my old credit card for VMP purposes, and when it failed, it just canceled my VMP membership. That's so weird... I should've at least been notified.
@Wojonatior My wife and I were running from the living room to the office.... on phone, tablet, desktop and laptop all browsers browsin'. Singing "Something went terribly wrong" each time it loaded up.
@curtise I had the same exact thing happen. I was sure that somehow it would've gotten through after two "Oops" messages on the order page, but no luck. The Cheer Up Sucker line from the song keeps replaying in my head, but it's not helping.
@JonT yup cograts to those folks. But we knew it was tonight based on the teaser, znd while still there at the right time yeilds...squat. So, I'm with @curtise on this one. I even spent scratch being one of the 2500 who are fans of some other different band.
I've been billed for the $5, so I think I have a mystery with my name on it now. I have no other confirmation other than at one point when I was trying to get it to go through, it said I can't order another.
Got to the screen when only 37 were sold, but after clicking "Buy" all I got as a white screen. Logged on again when 485 were sold and all I got for 45 minutes was the damn moving green line, until sold out. They are going to have some problems sorting out who was successful however since my debit card was charged three times but I never received the confirmation of the purchase. That was almost as bad try to secure tickets for San Diego's Comic Con which sells out 40,000+ tickets in about 10 minutes when sales go on line
UpDate: Yes it says on my order page I got one,,,,but never received the confirmation page
@kimikod lucky you! I hate that every night the servers are bogged and I can't keep my eyes open long enough to see the item of the day. I know... Whine whine whine.... But I wake at 3am and work 12 hour shifts. Us east coaster really get the jam sandwich meh.
I feel meh about this, Meh. Couldn't get the website to work, and then it turns out it's because of this. It's like the BoC experience all over again. Not, honestly, my favorite part of the experience. Why am I paying for VMP again?
@Trin Because you're not considering the fuku as a lucky bonus. Instead you're looking at it as the the primary reason to be a VMP. Use that VMP as expected, on loads of cheap, worthless crap that you'll never need.
@bakerzdosen yeah, I had green bars going in 2 different browsers, finally I gave up.. Probably 30 minutes of waiting, and I was sad.. Then once the site started responding again I checked my orders just in case, and to my overwhelming delight (er.. Meh.) I found that I got one!
@shawn I'm not going to say he's definitely a robutt (how Zoidberg pronounces the word), but it sure seems that someone is running a script that looks for instances of colours and posts that particular comment as a reply. Pretty sure there is some human interaction behind the account as well, however, but I would be highly surprised if said human actually was reading through every post and replying seemingly without fail to any colourful posts.
Blech. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar. Green bar.
I was repeatedly told that something went terribly terribly wrong, but in the end (after 45ish minutes of refreshing, evil green bar mocking and getting that song stuck in my head...) my order went through! I have been charged and confirmed! Now I can go to bed and have sweet dreams of mediocre things. Thanks Meh!
Now I is sad, last night I had managed to snag 2 bags (didn't know how the meh gods let that slip through but I got all excited!), I was billed on my credit card for both but now my 2nd bags invoice has dissapeared from my orders page but im still (currently showing on my card anyways) paying for the 2nd bag. :(
You know what, no I refuse to give up. I am going to keep refreshing every 15 seconds until they find one more because I am too stubborn to let go, and click that buy button and get myself a fancy red shopping tote, and I dont even care if its empty, I just want one.
@Kidsandliz There's a strong chance I'll take you up on that if my one man assault fails. I've dealt with too much crap this past month to want to eat another helping, and I'll be damned if I throw in the towel so easily. I'm well rested now Meh, prepare yourselves for my mediocre onslaught of f5ing!
momentary-dandy-furniture I was finally able to load meh.com/orders to confirm! Although I was pretty sure I got it after seeing the $5 pending charge from STRIPE, it's always good to see official confirmation! If only there was a way to get the e-mail receipt...
@editorkid Actually, that's one of the reasons I miss the days you had to choose one, two, or three bags on Woot. Choosing three really got you a better bag, but added that little extra risk. But I'm a gambler and that gamble always paid off for me.
@KDemo I only know that all of my previous Meh orders (all paid with AMEX) show up as STRIPE. But looking into it further, Stripe is a payment processing company that charges 2.9% + $0.30 on all credit/debit transactions. If the buyer is using an AMEX card, whose fees are generally higher than Visa/MC, it could be cheaper to use Stripe versus other companies. Meh could be selectively routing only AMEX-based payments through Stripe, while routing Visa/MC/debit transactions through a different payment processor that charges lower fees. Or this could all be pointless speculation :-P
I think (after commenting about my BOC/fuku virginity yesterday) that I have finally freed myself of that burden. You can have my conniving-cogent-sugar purity ring back. I won't be wearing it any longer.
North Dakota... let's talk. See, Canada would love to be a state so they could score some sweet fuku action. If you aren't even going to try... we might have to evaluate your role in the organization. So try to put a little pep in your step, because your neighbor to the north has its eye on that 39th star.
Meh...after waiting for an hour on the bar to quit going across, I decided to check my orders and it said I was successful in getting a Lucky Bag. Actually looked up that word and found out it is a real word. Way to go Meh. I'll post as soon as I receive. Meh to all and to all a mediocre night.
Turns out one of my attempts went through, although I never got (or noticed, anyway) a confirmation screen. Since I didn't get a conf, I kept trying again & again...realized, too, that one benefit of email receipts is that you tend to know for sure that you've bought something. Thank goodness or whatever that these things are coming. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.
This was the only thing we've really wanted... and the site was completely MEH... Living up to your name I see, but how about your customers... This site needs to get fixed by tomorrow and also have fuku bag 4 BY TOMORROW as well.. Thanks bye:D
@bluecolor if you didnt receive a bag you shouild consider that maybe it was ordained by fate...ive had a really rough couple weeks and could really use some bags right now,,..and the good Lord blessed me with 4. God bless u all.
That fuku purchase brought back great memories of what it used to be like buying a BOC before the antechamber and things to hide the 503 and other errors came along.
It may sound strange, but I actually enjoyed that... RDP'd to my work machine and had seven windows open in various browsers from both home and work machines with three sessions doing the refreshing green bar thing and the others trying to check my order status or get to the buy button.
I got the fuku at 12:07, but had no confirmation of it until 12:34... saw the charge confirmed on my CC before the meh orders page even came up (at one point, the page came up with no orders).
Thanks! Brought back great memories of how this sort of thing really should work.
@brianmc1975 ... Only of you're on the East coast (eastern zone).. Note the 'cst" after her statement.. Now whether or not it was there originally is acedemic as 11:00pm at 12:00am always indicates someone is typing in another part of Hamerica. On my 'lil area of the rock at exactly 9:56pm it is always "Time for the 12:am meh"..
@unkabob Dammit to meh! I deleted the top reply of this post yet there it is with no chance to edit/delete.. Much like the fucu I lost out on. When I got here third in line.. punched the buy saw the green line enough times to be mezmorized then that damn song over and over (in my mind) then I looked and it turned into #584.. I tried my damndest to be 585 but then, well that damn song came back and I had to go pee then a blank screen.. Damn, do I have to keep going? I could you know for another hour or so but then came #1045 and suddenly everything started working like a charm so I went back and saw.. Well the rest is history.. For the entire time I was trying to spend my Lincoln I felt like a turd in a swimming pool with all that meh avoidence.
To be more specific we were actually back on site at 10:58. Then we refreshed at 11 CST, which is 12 am EST, and I think everyone who was around knows what happened after that. I'm just glad we got one.
Mine went through right at 12:00 am and my husband's went through at 12:03. Great job, Meh! Sorry everyone else is so busy complaining and stomping their feet. I couldn't get anything to load afterward, but I figured it was because people were just hitting refresh over and over and making it worse, so I decided to wait until they gave up to come back and thank you all for the great experience. The Meh team is awesome, as always!
I am legitmately angry. I've always wanted to try the bag of crap thing, but I've never been able to snag one. waited 20 minutes to get the page to load, and when it finally did, the website couldn't actually process my order. waited an hour, then gave up. meh indeed
I would have gotten one, but ..... you know how tiring it is to live? Anyway, I've had a few BOC in my time, I even got the Kickstarter FUKU, never had an epic one. Never. If I were doing FUKU - I'd send a rep from my company to a city of a few lucky purchasers - and do a scavanger hunt in the city! Different PO boxes with keys, clues and general tomfoolery. If I were a young warthog............
@alacercogitatus Trying my hardest for many years on Woot only ever got one BOC. :( If you have to be up at midnight to win them here- I'll probably never get to win a FUKU. :( Oh well... to all that did- enjoy them. My one and only BOC was a huge amount of fun!
@BillLehecka I've missed probably 10 bocs I thought I should have got and 1 here. That is the nature of it all however. This makes first random crap success since Nov 17th 2006. Yes 2006! Failure is a certain, success is a miracle. People shouldn't expect to get one and getting one is not a right.
Shit Happens, I tried and tried. I got the payment screen a couple of times and the green bar kept moving and moving, but no confirmation. I'm disappointed I didn't get one, I just hope this doesn't become a trend.
ugggghhhh! I'm trying to shop! Please sell stuff. I hate these bags. I've read threads about them which all demonstrate that they are full of junk, people freak out about it and break the site, and then after the dust settles in a few minutes, there's nothing for sale all day long. Sigh.
@Lera I would recommend you do not buy one because, like you said, it will probably contain nothing but junk. You shouldn't have any high expectations on receiving anything good at all. With that said, that leaves one more bag for the rest of us.
@cengland0 oh nonono, I'm not being clear. I don't want the junk bag. For whatever reason, that bug has never bitten me, though I see other people going absolutely bananas over these bags both here and on Woot. I just mean here on meh a whole day will be wasted with no actual product available for me to shop. The five minutes the bag is available for those who want to try for it pass quickly, and then there are just... tumbleweeds for 24 hours. I wish they could offer the bag next to a real product that's available for everyone to buy. But maybe that takes away from whatever benefit they get from the bags of junk.
@Lera My two cents, for whatever that's worth. Generally speaking, you pay $5 for a FUKU and you receive more than $5 worth of stuff. Perhaps some of it is not something you want or need but it is always nice to receive a surprise in the mail. Every BOC and FUKU I've received, I always got items I didn't want and had no problem finding a good home (re-gifting) for them. It makes other people happy to receive random items and it makes me happy to give it to them. That's definitely worth the $5 it costs.
@Lera If they didn't do this occasionally the Meh offices and warehouse would swell up and explode with all of the crap that didn't sell or crap that they find on the way to work, or while walking down the street or whatever they find in the dumpsters while diving.
Soooo, never got a boc, or a fuku, and from reading this thread, it seems the very meh-est of the meh talent seems to have not made the cut (a true hallmark of meh-ness) and have brought their own brand of customer service suckitude with them when the coding was done for the fukus.
At least code up a lottery with a timeout and just let people know they entered, lost and can try again in a hour. Easy peasy. Even a meh chimp could code up something like that for a far better user experience and transparency and fairness, not just those with 4 PC and 45 windows each in privacy mode scripted to auto-refresh when the fuku-nee-boc event triggers.
I'm more than happy to send my Lincolns to a website more interested in parting me from them than being smug about tautologous mediocrity. Or a website in search of a pivot man.
The servers suck. It took for ever but I got one. It took for ever but I did not get one. I did not try and now they are sold out. Many tabs open and none worked. The time is too early The time is too late. This is BS. My group should have special access. "email them and complain", I have to stop, that is too funny.
Anyway if everyone hates Fubu so much maybe Meh should stop selling it. Or maybe if the users hate Fubu so much they should not try.
Congrats to all the users that got one and did not complain!
I like trying for Fukus. It is a neat little sport that sends me on a crazy emotional rollercoaster for 5-20 minutes and then it ends. I was lucky enough to have snagged one this time, but when I miss them I still enjoy the sport of trying.
quickest-insane-rat Yes!!! Looks like I got one!! The green bar kept saying something went terribly wrong, try again. After an eternity, it said sorry we sold out. But I checked my orders this morning and looks like it went through! They already charged my bank too! Woo hoooo!!!!
Holy Moly! I'm at a Conference in Chicago and made it back to my room just minutes before the magical "new item" time. I was SUPPOSED to be preparing my presentation, but randomly clicked over to Meh at 11:00 and spotted the prize! Immediately clicked the magical button, watched it load and load and load for ages, then it returned to the main page. Argh! I clicked again and after a while it told me "something went wrong." Tried another browser, same thing. Gave up assuming it had sold out. Got up this morning and there it is in my order list. HOORAH!!!!
I set my alarm at 12 for the past month hoping to score a bag. Finally it paid off (I hope). Page loaded kinda quick, I was stuck at checkout for about 5 minutes and told me something went wrong try again, all disappointed it tried and it erred saying I already ordered one. Then I couldn't sleep wondering if one was actually ordered or if that error message was wrong. By 12:30 it showed in my orders. :)
@editorkid Exactly, it was mentioned probably a dozen times with hints it would happen this week in various comments. In the last 8 years since my last I've felt cheated about 11 times, but it doesn't mean I gave up nor raised a fuss about it stomping my feet.
I just found Meh yesterday. At midnight, on my Android, I had to type in all my card & address info s.l.o.w.l.y, reassure Meh that I really did want one, and wait. Green bars, more green bars... Went to my laptop, tried to buy one. Not allowed, said Meh, you already bought one. Back to green bars. Back to laptop; my credit card said I bought one. Good enough for me, I went to bed. It's not nearly as bad as the historic Woot server crashes, but the howls are just as much fun. I'm delighted; it's a moral victory, and there are so few of those around.
Well, I was able to hang on long enough to get a Fukubukro (when I was finally able to see what was for sale).
I was kind of hoping it was another deep fryer for ten bucks. I really wanted a deep fryer. Lots of people wanted a deep fryer. I've got a deep fryer, but it would be nice to make more than a dozen potato chips at a time.
It was nice, though, to score the fukubukuro. I like the bag. I'll carry that bag with pride. I promise.
@cengland0 It's not only women's undergarments as The DARK ART OF CALF DRESSING TAKES ON MANY DIFFERENT FORMS. Usually the singing dastard works with 2 other villains as well. Now, one super cool surprise happiness bag please.
My question is, how did people not see this coming from a mile away? They had the newsletter, there was a forum post talking about the theme song, etc. It was practically guaranteed to happen this week. I was expecting it to be today, but with the caveat of being $15, and being bundled with a speaker dock.
YES! I spent 30 minutes trying to get my order through last night (on the last page watching the green bar) and thought that maybe it hadn't gone through, but I just checked my orders and it shows that it went through, thanks meh!
I laid in bed, eagerly awaiting 11:00. Would I find my next Christmas present for family!? My heart stopped beating as I pressed reload and waited for the page to show me the wonder. I nearly had a heart attack as I saw it, a Fukubukuro bag. Flashbacks to all the missed mysteries on woot and the bag I missed on meh raced through my mind. Acting on instinct, I had trained for this, I bought it and raced through the purchase screen. Did it work!? I can't log into my account! My racing heart was finally sated by the notification in my email confirming my purchase.
@aradem My experience would have been far less eventful if I did not watch a progress bar load and reload for five minutes and not experience the stress of wondering if the object of my desires was mine or not!
I might try to get my friends to call me that. It's got a richness to it. Yes, goddamnit, I have friends; a few; at least they pretend.
The ranting here, of course, has me thinking. But I won't over-analyze it (no really, emotions are too raw and, seriously, I've got shit to do). I am sorry for those who didn't get through. The waiting and the struggling in futility are maddening--I totally get that.
On the plus side, we have the interwebs and devices that connect us to the knowledge of the world. And, apparently, disposable income that we're dying to unload. There is that, my friends, there is that. And FWIW, I'm sipping on a nice cup of coffee right now. In case you were curious.
@joelmw Lord knows I don't want to dilute the Meh model of only-one-deal-a-day-ever-stop-looking-at-us-like-that, but if there was an extra button off to the side so you could put your order phrase on a T-shirt for $10, I bet a lot of folks would bite. You got a good one.
I tried for years to get a BOC. But the god's were not with me. So when my alarm went off at 10:59 last night and I was able to get on and click the Buy button my heart fluttered for a moment. Then another browser let me click the BUY button too. Could it be that tonight was going to be THE night? After watching the green bar go back and forth for 20 minutes it told me that I couldn't buy it because................. I HAD ALREADY BOUGHT ONE!!!! I feel somehow more complete today as a person. It is almost as exciting as drawing @snapster house!!! I'm hoping that some roomba's are in my future! But I'm sure when I come down it will be Meh all over again.
@kevin8er I had two green bars going on my laptop and one on my phone. The browsers crashed but the phone came back saying I already purchased one. I had to wait for everything to come back up to verify. inane-affable-wealth. Aaaaaaaaaaw yeah.
Who knows if I could have gotten it anyway, but I decided to sit this one out. Having been burned with redundant BOC's before, I need to research whether the items change from fuku to fuku, and besides, my neighbors would steal it if it arrives while I'm gone for Thanksgiving.
Something went terribly right, Terribly terribly right, The reason you're reading this terrible post, Is that something went terribly right.
Something apparently worked, Completely and totally worked, The server's on fire, there's a whole lot of smoke, But I guess something apparently worked.
What happened... We don't exactly know... Where was it... That you were trying to go... (Won again I guess)
Something went terribly right, Terribly terribly right, The reason you're reading this terrible post, Is that something went terribly right.
Btw meh, thanks for keeping me up an extra hour last night trying to see if it had gone through! That's okay, I'm EST and I only had to get up at 5:20. Four hours is a perfectly reasonable length of time to sleep, right? I never saw any confirmation that it went through and finally gave up waiting for the site to come back so I could check my orders. That was about 1:15 am. Woke up, immediately checked my orders to find competent-spectacular-dog at 12:06 am. Maybe the problem is that I'm a cat person?
@Outofmymind Lol - Glad to know you believe in rescues too. I think half the reason I'm a cat person is out of sheer laziness. No walking them, scooping a litter box beats the snot out of picking up steamy piles of poop, and you can go away for more than 10 hours at a time.
I don't mind the difficulties in getting a fukubukuro. For me, the challenge to get one is a large part of the fun. If everything runs smoothly, you don't waste as much time, but then the excitement and anticipation is also short-lived.
I managed to get one. If I hadn't, there would have been disappointment, but I would have still enjoyed the attempt.
@Thumperchick It's not only my butt that's in agony; my soul aches and weeps in despair as well. I'm hoping that prayer and spinning gyroscope therapy will eventually heal my grievously fuku bereaved heart; Pasta and Sauce be willing...
i know these events exist, and have sometimes thought i might score one for a few min. But not so far. Being at the right computer on the right connection on the right newly refreshed site at the right moment doesnt seem to work for me on some number of attempts. And is not in any case a top priority. hope my life contains other small compensations.
Somehow I scored one at 12:02, but didn't know that until I checked my bank 20 minutes later. Hubby scored one at 12:33, but again, had to check the bank to confirm it. So let the bitching begin! The Three Stages of Bitching: 1. I didn't get one!!! 2. Why is it taking so long!?! 3. I hate the stuff I got!!!
I have to admit, I didn't expect my devoted desperation mentioned above to actually accomplish anything, but I have noticed a few times the page has timed out on me and I had re-refresh. I cooled it down a little cause I don't wanna accidentally ddos you guys in my slight loss of sanity yet still clinging to hopefulness assault.
