@bluedyn Yeah, my friends play it to the exclusion of life, and when they aren't playing it they are talking about it, which is why I haven't allowed them talk me into joining their clan.
@moondrake So at first I was playing a lot to move up and get into the clan and not be so far behind everyone. Now I only check it a couple times a day and occasionally spend a couple hours going on raids. It's easy to be casual about it. C'mon, join. You know you want to.

Not Farmtown--it's just some lame old computer game--but the culmination of absurd improbabilities that led to my connecting with the woman of my dreams across the vast distance of the interwebs. Needless to say, I believe in computers, the Internet and social media. But farming games feel too much like a singles bar (not that that's how or why either of us was there in the first place; it's just this weird thing that happened).
@joelmw After our convo in clan chat, here's my sap story: I met my wife on ICQ, she had a 7 digit UIN that was less than mine. Our opening convo was me asking if she liked country music, and her response was her best friend did, but she hated it. We didn't chat for months, until she sent out a clearing out contact list warning, at which point we started chatting again. Being 500 miles apart, we merely chatted online during high school, finally meeting in person when she moved to a college 100 miles away. It became a normal relationship at that point, except I proposed to her in-game in Star Wars Galaxies. I typed to her in-game to marry me, she typed no...not on this server, like I had anticipated, and so I typed what about in real life, stood up from my computer, and knelt beside her on her computer, fishing the ring from a hiding spot in her desk.
My husband made me join the clan he created. If I changed clans on him he will become a big meh-baby and nag me about it. Make me an offer I can't refuse and I will join your ranks and make my husband a whiny meh-baby with great pleasure.
So I restarted about 3 times last night, maybe 4. One of my do-overs was just to swap out my name, but how DARE they allow so few characters? How can I play a period game with such limited options? When I found out I couldn't be Titanius Anglesmith, Fancy Man of Cornwood, I was ready to take my ball and go home. But I soldiered on.
@hollboll@jont Am I going to enjoy the game if I refuse to spend money on it? I played Candy Crush for a while, but it gets stupidly hard and luck-based quickly.
@dashcloud I'm just starting up so I can't say from personal experience but the long time players in the office say they haven't spent any money after months of playing. It's one of those "this thing will take 2 hours to finish but if you want to pay $1 you can finish it now" type games so if you just check in periodically you should be okay.
@MEHcus I'll be joining as soon as my clan war is over with. I'm in line to get about 2,000 dark elixir from a rare win and need to collect. Expect me later tonight.
I've thought of playing, but I take mediocrity to a whole new level with games like these- will the game run itself once I set it up and get started? If not, what's the minimum amount of time I need to spend? (To give you an idea, I spend 20 minutes or so on Facebook 2-3 times a month, and sometimes don't login at all on a month).
I'm mph65 in the clan for those that didn't know.....
So.... we are about to war yet again and rather than fill the chat with tips and tricks I thought I'd post here with a couple suggestions for the newer folks.
The 24 hours before the war begins is the one time you can 'edit' your war base. This is so you can have a defensive set up for 'war' and a 'farming' set up for regular day to day play (where you don't really care if your TH gets demolished). So if your regular setup looks the same as your 'war' set up you might consider editing your war base today. Move your TH and CC to the center of your map - protect them as much as you can so that the enemy can't '3 star' you. By moving your CC to the middle of the map it is much harder for the enemy to lure out your CC troops (the lvl 5 wizards I just put in everyone's cc).
Thats the #1 thing we can do at the moment to improve and get our first war win - that and EVERYONE use both of their attacks.
Other thoughts - Make sure not to attack too far below your own level because you will be taking away easier targets from your clanmates. If an enemy has been '2 starred' then the best you can do it earn us one more star by '3 starring' them - that might be a lot of work.
I suggest brewing at least one lighting spell (if you have spells) and luring out the enemies CC troops - then zapping them with that spell - hopefully taking out a few of them - you have three minutes to attack - take your time.
One other general hit - DONATE - some day you may want to spread your wings and join another clan - they will look to see how much you have donated - if the number is low they may not want you. CoC keeps records of how many troops you have ever donated and your donations also help you increase your level (not cup level - experience level - the blue star/bar). Donate archers unless you have really good troops - most people in most clans will never complain if you donate archers.
@ilovereality I'm always happy to donate, but I feel lame donating my 3-star archers. Are you saying I should give them anyway? Even though they're mediocre troops?
@bluedyn I will take anything ya got - it helps you improve your experience - I think most everyone else in the clan is fine with whatever level archers they get as well.
@ilovereality Well okay then. Archers for everyone! I always donate when someone is the same level or below me. It's just the people above (much of the clan) that I've been hesitant with.

@joelmw You have to rebuild the clan castle first. Takes a couple/few days of playing to reach the level where you can join a clan. We have a good time there, and you can visit infrequently. We have a few people still in the clan who I think bailed completely, so no harm in a half-ass member.
@joelmw Yeah, no issues if you are a casual player. However, if we lose a clan battle by 1 star, and you haven't used your attacks, I will shame you for life.
@baseba4551 Indeed, however we are fairly new to the war scene. We've won more wars than we've lost, and a few of the losses have been by a slim margin.
@Alien88@studerc The sick thing is that I'm probably going to do this if no one else does. And I know I shouldn't have just said that, because now whoever else might of will figure they don't need to. Just know that it will be extremely half-assed and probably take me months to complete--and even then, be full of errors.
So here's that list of names: a mediocre clan of meh users. I haven't made it universally editable, but I've no problem opening it up if anyone wants to augment the pathetic piece of shit. Just request and indicate your meh user name, so I have some idea who you are.
Note that there's a column for "certainty." 10 means the mediocre individual has stepped up and claimed ownership. 8 is a one-to-one correspondence (sometimes ignoring case--which I've tried to duplicate, but can't always be sure of because of that goofy-ass CoC font). 6 is my educated guess.
There are other things we could might track, if anyone gets ambitious or has too much spare time or just has a sick fascination that they'd like to indulge. Of course if we get too fancy, we might want to lock it down. Because espionage and shit.
But my goal at this point is just knowing who's who.

As a matter of fact, it turns out that excessively capacious rating systems are a problem I have. Just this week I was looking at a spreadsheet I created with four different rating columns, each ranging to 100--and I typically use 5-10 of the possibilities. At least one of them also includes negative values. Count yourself lucky.
On the other hand, it leaves room for internal growth without having to rework the whole scheme. I didn't want to sit down and figure the whole damned thing out before I did it. And, again, I remind you: half-assed.

@hollboll For when you guys open up some spots, I sent in a request to join...Only 1 day in right now with 2 days left on the newbie bubble, so no hurry on accepting me. I used to play "Battle Pirates" on FB back in 2011 which seems very similar to this game. I mostly lost interest in BP when they allowed players to move "sectors" and the alliances I played with fractured all over the place.
I mentioned in the CoC chat that I had a spreadsheet setup to plan my TH 8 upgrade. @joelmw indicated interest in seeing it, so here is a Google Doc version...
Notice that there are 2 tabs. One is for resource planning and the other takes those numbers and plans the builder schedule.
@mediobarkre regarding attack cost, i have a much simpler method. I look at how much elixir I have, train troops, look at the difference in elixir, and make sure that i attack someone with far more elixir than i just spent.
@marklog I usually have my troops in a constant queue when I'm attacking, so it isn't always easy to see the exact amount that I use. The spreadsheet gives me the definitive amount for what my normal load-out costs and I keep that in mind when I look for a village to attack. I also use it to see what theoretical load-outs would cost and have also used it to show my son why he wasn't getting anywhere elixir wise on his attacks.
@marklog Some people (@mehcus) don't like playing on the weekend, plus I need some time to save up some DE, you guys bleed me of my hogs during war and I just started a hero upgrade so I don't have much. ;)
@hollboll I used 55k DE on my archer queen upgrade - had built it back up to 12k and just blew through 7k DE filling up war CC's with Valks and couple Witches
@EthanP Did you try to rejoin? DId you use Meh in the request? Is the clan full? I've never seen them refuse a 'meh' request so I'm guessing you haven't re-asked.

@jaybird I like http://www.clashofclansguidehq.com/ because there is a decent base layout with explanation and how to farm cheaply with barbarians. Before there was room in the meh clan, I joined "req n leave" clans to request reinforcements for my clan castle, then once it is filled, leave (otherwise they kick you). Those clans let you join as soon as you press join. Clan makes no difference really when farming for resources. Invite only still means you have to press join, then one of the admins needs to accept or deny it. It's a poor wording for it. Joining a clan is all about the wars and banter, farming is still solo. So an overflow clan doesn't really work since you don't get the wars and banter. Subscribing to this thread is probably the best bet to seeing when they kick out some inactives.
@jaybird saw you applied waiting for a free spot. Just fyi I did the same thing, but the system is dumb and your application will scroll off the chat window after a day or two
@Odi so what you're saying is I have to reapply every couple of days so it can be seen often? @jaybird You could...but it will just keep getting buried. If you think you're lucky, then you could repeatedly check in game to see if there's a free spot, but I haven't seen one in a week or more. If you're lazy, then you could just subscribe to this topic and see if they post about kicking out some inactives.
I requested to join a while ago. I've been playing for a couple weeks now. I'll send another request in hopes of getting one of the elusive future spots. The only thing that I don't like about CoC in comparison to others that I've played is that you lose all the troops you use whether they die or not. I really don't understand why they have it set up like that. With the other games of this type that I've played, you only lose them if they get killed.
@PurplePawprints The way requests show up in chat makes it disappear once too old. So there's no way to accept once there's room. For the losing deployed troops, I thought I was going to hate it too, but I think it's important to keep the game balanced. In a similar game I've played, you could just go around steamrolling with really powerful expensive units, requiring a level limit that you can't hit below. Since there is no level limit here, this prevents someone with expensive units from just picking on small guys
@PurplePawprints I agree with @Odi that it creates more parity. In a sense, since everyone else "loses" troops when they're sent to battle, you're not losing anything, relatively speaking. Also, it makes sense to me from the perspective that you'd have to somehow maintain those troops (house, clothe, feed, train, etc.)--indeed, they use the term "train" to describe what's being done in the barracks. It's not that you're actually generating new troops, you're just preparing them for battle.

I tried a hog just now and probably didn't 3 star because of misplaced heal spells. If I had put the heal spell at the giant bomb, I could have saved half a dozen hogs from death. I think the point is it depends on the enemy's base design. No obvious spots for double giant bombs and lots of compartments, use hogs. ADs are too far apart or too close together, use drags. Large open pockets, use GoWiPe.
@Odi thanks for the link. It's definitely worth checking out and looking into the strategy. In my limited experience with GoWiPe, I feel that I can 2 star most TH8 bases. I'd be much more uncertain of this with hogs. I've seen too many hog attacks blow up at the start due to giant bombs. But, of course, practice would likely help... Worth looking into as a hog attack may have a higher ceiling.
@mediobarkre@Odi We really do need a messaging platform for CoC--one that allows us to bookmark this stuff and get to it quickly. And have focused strategy discussions that are private (which this isn't really) and persistent.

It's indicative of my current status that there are messages in this thread back to August that I hadn't read. But I think I only missed one attack. Many of my attacks were horrible, worthless, but still . . .

@mediobarkre Thanks for thinking of us, chief. I'd really like to give it another shot. If I don't within the next few days, it's unlikely that I will. And you're more than justified to boot me already (though I'm kinda glad you haven't yet).
So, I haven't read up on everything, but I know that part of why I gave up earlier is that I was getting nowhere on dark elixir that I needed for research. I'm not sure exactly what it is (it's more than just gemming the de mines), I've been able to pick up 50,000 in just a couple of weeks and I really haven't been raiding that much. It just seems like there's more de available and I'm more successful getting it. So, go Supercell.
And maybe that should be encouragement to @studerc and others thinking of coming back (or joining up). I think they've made the game better and less frustrating to play.
@joelmw Right now I'm a th9 and have every builder busy (5), max E, 5M (or 6M?) G, and a little over 45K de. I've been raiding exclusively archers and goblins, using the occasional jump or heal spell. There are definitely fewer bases to raid, but it hasn't significantly slowed me down.
I'd suggest people who are having trouble should either get as many trophies as they can or dump as many as they can. There seems to be more booty at the extremes.
I'm still forming my opinion on the update. There are definitely things that I like, such as being able to attack without completely breaking my shield (and therefore being able to safely train a new army). I've also found that the update hasn't changed my raiding strategy too much, so long as my heroes aren't down. I also don't have to continually monitor my phone to make sure that I stay on-line to avoid being attacked. That's been a very nice add.
The biggest thing that I'm concerned about is the economy. It seems to me that overall loot has dried up a bit. It's hard to gauge this yet though, as I think there was probably a massive influx of players after the update and now we have gem boosted barracks. It does seem that you can find 1 type of loot at a time though. If you're only searching for 1 of gold, elixir, or dark elixir, you'll likely be OK. Finding all 3, seems to take a lot of nexting or luck. I'm most concerned about elixir, but haven't been focusing on it too much. I've moved up to Masters and the league bonus there 110k/110k/560 does seem to help quite a bit, so long as you win. They have also reduced the amount of loot available for raiding a lower TH level (80% vs 90%, I think). This, combined with the perceived elixir shortage, has me rethinking my TH10 upgrade. I had been hoping to upgrade in about 3 weeks, but now, I think I'll stay at TH9 until either I have a good reason to go to TH10, I'm convinced that the TH10 economy is better than I'm hearing it is now, or I've maxed my TH9.
TL;DR attacking without breaking shield is good. Economy seems bad.
@mediobarkre Yeah, that's weird, because it seems like I've just been slurping up the DE. Seriously, I think I was hovering around 15k for a couple of months before--and that included a few strings of attacks. Now I seem to be able to find 2K bases pretty easily and I don't seem to lose as much when I'm hit. I think you might be right about the single-resource situation, but I'm cool with that; as long as I can get whichever resource I'm after, I'm happy.
I think I'll stick with the plan of doing all of my upgrades and available research before moving up to TH 9. I think it's just got valks and poison after the golems finish; that and about half of my walls. All of my buildings, defenses, BK are maxed. And then I'll probably try to head into the TH upgrade with G and E maxed, DE at least half full.
@DaveInSoCal I'd fallen to Silver III while I was away. I've casually (again, without trying much; I'm just focused on grabbing DE, which, admittedly, usually puts me into the heart of a village and 50% and/or the TH) crawled up to Gold III. At least half of that has been trophies picked up from defense. That hardly happened before.

Clash of Clans is one of the games I’ve continued to find amusing. Supercell keeps having events that include discounts for certain troops–an opportunity not only to learn new tactics, but to pick up some extra resources (since the troops are cheaper, it’s easier to rack up better net gains). I’ve not been enjoying the match making as of late. Way too many perfect-war ties, and way too many matches with clans that have one very engineered village as their #9 or #12 that clears our #1 with ease.
We’re still alive and well… Our clan is currently at max capacity, so I’m going to be doing some cleanup after the current round of Clan Games is over. If I can’t tell that you’ve played, you’re fodder for the boot.

Hi guys… I didn’t know this was a thing. I play Clash of Kings myself but I’m curious how you guys like your game. It’s quite addicting and time consuming I find.
@Amila99 Our clan is about a month short of 4 years old. There are only a handful of us left that are from here. Those of us that are, are addicted to the game. I’ve never played Clash of Kings (too involved with Clash of Clans & Clash Royale (also A Mediocre Clan)), so I don’t know the differences, but I’m guessing they are similar.
There have been many good changes to CoC lately that have improved the game play. They’ve introduced some new and different concepts (siege machines, magic items, & TH12), lowered upgrade costs and times, and improved your ability to actually use the heroes you’ve spent so much time & resources upgrading. I feel like the game is much more fun to play now, than it was a couple of years ago.

@bluedyn Yeah, my friends play it to the exclusion of life, and when they aren't playing it they are talking about it, which is why I haven't allowed them talk me into joining their clan.
@moondrake So at first I was playing a lot to move up and get into the clan and not be so far behind everyone. Now I only check it a couple times a day and occasionally spend a couple hours going on raids. It's easy to be casual about it. C'mon, join. You know you want to.

I've been playing this longer than I like to admit. And in true cheapskate fashion, I've yet to spend a dime on in-app purchases. I'm at lvl 124.
If I wasn't in a committed relationship with my existing clan, I'd join. Unless, of course, there are meh perks involved...

Not Farmtown--it's just some lame old computer game--but the culmination of absurd improbabilities that led to my connecting with the woman of my dreams across the vast distance of the interwebs. Needless to say, I believe in computers, the Internet and social media. But farming games feel too much like a singles bar (not that that's how or why either of us was there in the first place; it's just this weird thing that happened).
@joelmw After our convo in clan chat, here's my sap story: I met my wife on ICQ, she had a 7 digit UIN that was less than mine. Our opening convo was me asking if she liked country music, and her response was her best friend did, but she hated it. We didn't chat for months, until she sent out a clearing out contact list warning, at which point we started chatting again. Being 500 miles apart, we merely chatted online during high school, finally meeting in person when she moved to a college 100 miles away. It became a normal relationship at that point, except I proposed to her in-game in Star Wars Galaxies. I typed to her in-game to marry me, she typed no...not on this server, like I had anticipated, and so I typed what about in real life, stood up from my computer, and knelt beside her on her computer, fishing the ring from a hiding spot in her desk.

So I restarted about 3 times last night, maybe 4. One of my do-overs was just to swap out my name, but how DARE they allow so few characters? How can I play a period game with such limited options? When I found out I couldn't be Titanius Anglesmith, Fancy Man of Cornwood, I was ready to take my ball and go home. But I soldiered on.
I refuse to play.
A group of co-workers have their own clan and that is all they do at lunch, talk about clash this and clash that.
Sometimes it is entertaining because a project manager is in their clan and was demoted by one of the engineers on his project.
@hollboll @jont Am I going to enjoy the game if I refuse to spend money on it? I played Candy Crush for a while, but it gets stupidly hard and luck-based quickly.
@dashcloud I'm just starting up so I can't say from personal experience but the long time players in the office say they haven't spent any money after months of playing. It's one of those "this thing will take 2 hours to finish but if you want to pay $1 you can finish it now" type games so if you just check in periodically you should be okay.
@dashcloud I've never spent any money on it. Just don't use your gems, save them for later in the game.

If not, what's the minimum amount of time I need to spend? (To give you an idea, I spend 20 minutes or so on Facebook 2-3 times a month, and sometimes don't login at all on a month).

I'm mph65 in the clan for those that didn't know.....
So.... we are about to war yet again and rather than fill the chat with tips and tricks I thought I'd post here with a couple suggestions for the newer folks.
The 24 hours before the war begins is the one time you can 'edit' your war base. This is so you can have a defensive set up for 'war' and a 'farming' set up for regular day to day play (where you don't really care if your TH gets demolished). So if your regular setup looks the same as your 'war' set up you might consider editing your war base today. Move your TH and CC to the center of your map - protect them as much as you can so that the enemy can't '3 star' you. By moving your CC to the middle of the map it is much harder for the enemy to lure out your CC troops (the lvl 5 wizards I just put in everyone's cc).
Thats the #1 thing we can do at the moment to improve and get our first war win - that and EVERYONE use both of their attacks.
Other thoughts - Make sure not to attack too far below your own level because you will be taking away easier targets from your clanmates. If an enemy has been '2 starred' then the best you can do it earn us one more star by '3 starring' them - that might be a lot of work.
I suggest brewing at least one lighting spell (if you have spells) and luring out the enemies CC troops - then zapping them with that spell - hopefully taking out a few of them - you have three minutes to attack - take your time.
One other general hit - DONATE - some day you may want to spread your wings and join another clan - they will look to see how much you have donated - if the number is low they may not want you. CoC keeps records of how many troops you have ever donated and your donations also help you increase your level (not cup level - experience level - the blue star/bar). Donate archers unless you have really good troops - most people in most clans will never complain if you donate archers.

@bluedyn I will take anything ya got - it helps you improve your experience - I think most everyone else in the clan is fine with whatever level archers they get as well.

@joelmw You have to rebuild the clan castle first. Takes a couple/few days of playing to reach the level where you can join a clan. We have a good time there, and you can visit infrequently. We have a few people still in the clan who I think bailed completely, so no harm in a half-ass member.

@Pamtha It's your clan castle. It will be on your map as a broken building. It will take a few days or so to build up enough gold to rebuild it.
So here's that list of names: a mediocre clan of meh users. I haven't made it universally editable, but I've no problem opening it up if anyone wants to augment the pathetic piece of shit. Just request and indicate your meh user name, so I have some idea who you are.
Note that there's a column for "certainty." 10 means the mediocre individual has stepped up and claimed ownership. 8 is a one-to-one correspondence (sometimes ignoring case--which I've tried to duplicate, but can't always be sure of because of that goofy-ass CoC font). 6 is my educated guess.
There are other things we could might track, if anyone gets ambitious or has too much spare time or just has a sick fascination that they'd like to indulge. Of course if we get too fancy, we might want to lock it down. Because espionage and shit.
But my goal at this point is just knowing who's who.

As a matter of fact, it turns out that excessively capacious rating systems are a problem I have. Just this week I was looking at a spreadsheet I created with four different rating columns, each ranging to 100--and I typically use 5-10 of the possibilities. At least one of them also includes negative values. Count yourself lucky.
On the other hand, it leaves room for internal growth without having to rework the whole scheme. I didn't want to sit down and figure the whole damned thing out before I did it. And, again, I remind you: half-assed.

I used to play "Battle Pirates" on FB back in 2011 which seems very similar to this game. I mostly lost interest in BP when they allowed players to move "sectors" and the alliances I played with fractured all over the place.

I use the Attack Cost bit fairly often to determine the return on investment of an attack. This is especially useful if I need to farm elixir.

@mediobarkre regarding attack cost, i have a much simpler method. I look at how much elixir I have, train troops, look at the difference in elixir, and make sure that i attack someone with far more elixir than i just spent.
@marklog Ha! The check book is easy... All zeros...
@marklog I usually have my troops in a constant queue when I'm attacking, so it isn't always easy to see the exact amount that I use. The spreadsheet gives me the definitive amount for what my normal load-out costs and I keep that in mind when I look for a village to attack. I also use it to see what theoretical load-outs would cost and have also used it to show my son why he wasn't getting anywhere elixir wise on his attacks.

@jaybird I like http://www.clashofclansguidehq.com/ because there is a decent base layout with explanation and how to farm cheaply with barbarians. Before there was room in the meh clan, I joined "req n leave" clans to request reinforcements for my clan castle, then once it is filled, leave (otherwise they kick you). Those clans let you join as soon as you press join. Clan makes no difference really when farming for resources. Invite only still means you have to press join, then one of the admins needs to accept or deny it. It's a poor wording for it. Joining a clan is all about the wars and banter, farming is still solo. So an overflow clan doesn't really work since you don't get the wars and banter. Subscribing to this thread is probably the best bet to seeing when they kick out some inactives.

I requested to join a while ago. I've been playing for a couple weeks now. I'll send another request in hopes of getting one of the elusive future spots. The only thing that I don't like about CoC in comparison to others that I've played is that you lose all the troops you use whether they die or not. I really don't understand why they have it set up like that. With the other games of this type that I've played, you only lose them if they get killed.
Well, I guess something changed in who they allow to request to join, because this time I was told I didn't have enough trophies for the clan.

@PurplePawprints The way requests show up in chat makes it disappear once too old. So there's no way to accept once there's room. For the losing deployed troops, I thought I was going to hate it too, but I think it's important to keep the game balanced. In a similar game I've played, you could just go around steamrolling with really powerful expensive units, requiring a level limit that you can't hit below. Since there is no level limit here, this prevents someone with expensive units from just picking on small guys
@PurplePawprints I agree with @Odi that it creates more parity. In a sense, since everyone else "loses" troops when they're sent to battle, you're not losing anything, relatively speaking. Also, it makes sense to me from the perspective that you'd have to somehow maintain those troops (house, clothe, feed, train, etc.)--indeed, they use the term "train" to describe what's being done in the barracks. It's not that you're actually generating new troops, you're just preparing them for battle.

I tried a hog just now and probably didn't 3 star because of misplaced heal spells. If I had put the heal spell at the giant bomb, I could have saved half a dozen hogs from death. I think the point is it depends on the enemy's base design. No obvious spots for double giant bombs and lots of compartments, use hogs. ADs are too far apart or too close together, use drags. Large open pockets, use GoWiPe.
@Odi thanks for the link. It's definitely worth checking out and looking into the strategy. In my limited experience with GoWiPe, I feel that I can 2 star most TH8 bases. I'd be much more uncertain of this with hogs. I've seen too many hog attacks blow up at the start due to giant bombs. But, of course, practice would likely help... Worth looking into as a hog attack may have a higher ceiling.

So, I haven't read up on everything, but I know that part of why I gave up earlier is that I was getting nowhere on dark elixir that I needed for research. I'm not sure exactly what it is (it's more than just gemming the de mines), I've been able to pick up 50,000 in just a couple of weeks and I really haven't been raiding that much. It just seems like there's more de available and I'm more successful getting it. So, go Supercell.
And maybe that should be encouragement to @studerc and others thinking of coming back (or joining up). I think they've made the game better and less frustrating to play.
@joelmw Right now I'm a th9 and have every builder busy (5), max E, 5M (or 6M?) G, and a little over 45K de. I've been raiding exclusively archers and goblins, using the occasional jump or heal spell. There are definitely fewer bases to raid, but it hasn't significantly slowed me down.
I'd suggest people who are having trouble should either get as many trophies as they can or dump as many as they can. There seems to be more booty at the extremes.
I'm still forming my opinion on the update. There are definitely things that I like, such as being able to attack without completely breaking my shield (and therefore being able to safely train a new army). I've also found that the update hasn't changed my raiding strategy too much, so long as my heroes aren't down. I also don't have to continually monitor my phone to make sure that I stay on-line to avoid being attacked. That's been a very nice add.
The biggest thing that I'm concerned about is the economy. It seems to me that overall loot has dried up a bit. It's hard to gauge this yet though, as I think there was probably a massive influx of players after the update and now we have gem boosted barracks. It does seem that you can find 1 type of loot at a time though. If you're only searching for 1 of gold, elixir, or dark elixir, you'll likely be OK. Finding all 3, seems to take a lot of nexting or luck. I'm most concerned about elixir, but haven't been focusing on it too much. I've moved up to Masters and the league bonus there 110k/110k/560 does seem to help quite a bit, so long as you win. They have also reduced the amount of loot available for raiding a lower TH level (80% vs 90%, I think). This, combined with the perceived elixir shortage, has me rethinking my TH10 upgrade. I had been hoping to upgrade in about 3 weeks, but now, I think I'll stay at TH9 until either I have a good reason to go to TH10, I'm convinced that the TH10 economy is better than I'm hearing it is now, or I've maxed my TH9.
TL;DR attacking without breaking shield is good. Economy seems bad.
@mediobarkre Yeah, that's weird, because it seems like I've just been slurping up the DE. Seriously, I think I was hovering around 15k for a couple of months before--and that included a few strings of attacks. Now I seem to be able to find 2K bases pretty easily and I don't seem to lose as much when I'm hit. I think you might be right about the single-resource situation, but I'm cool with that; as long as I can get whichever resource I'm after, I'm happy.
I think I'll stick with the plan of doing all of my upgrades and available research before moving up to TH 9. I think it's just got valks and poison after the golems finish; that and about half of my walls. All of my buildings, defenses, BK are maxed. And then I'll probably try to head into the TH upgrade with G and E maxed, DE at least half full.
@DaveInSoCal I'd fallen to Silver III while I was away. I've casually (again, without trying much; I'm just focused on grabbing DE, which, admittedly, usually puts me into the heart of a village and 50% and/or the TH) crawled up to Gold III. At least half of that has been trophies picked up from defense. That hardly happened before.

We’re still plugging away with our 2 wars per week, but could really use some new members to join in. We’re going to start actively recruiting, so if you’d like join our clan before we bring in some non-Meh folk, please drop us a note here.
We’re looking for people who will frequently participate in war (declared on Thursday and Sunday) and and would prefer Town Hall levels 7 - 10. Wars aren’t mandatory, but we will ask that you either use both attacks or opt out of war.
Clanmates - A 3x Clan XP event will be starting on Saturday. We plan on running war continuously during the event. To maximize our profit of the event, we’d like to run larger wars. A loss during the event is worth more than a normal win, please join us!

Supercell has released a major update to Clash of Clans. You can now start over! Well, kind of…
If you are TH 4 or higher, there is a boat on your map that will take you to a “new land”. There, you can repair a builder’s hut and upgrade new defenses and troops and battle 1 on 1 for a winner-takes-all loot bonus.

Clash of Clans is one of the games I’ve continued to find amusing. Supercell keeps having events that include discounts for certain troops–an opportunity not only to learn new tactics, but to pick up some extra resources (since the troops are cheaper, it’s easier to rack up better net gains). We’re a pretty mediocre group. Join us, damnit.
Nice that you folks continue to have a meh clan. Very nice work to keep it going for so long. How many meh-related members are there?
@bdb We’ve got 42 members in the clan. Of those about 27 have some sort of tie to Meh/Woot. Of those 27, only about 11 are still active though

I’ve not been enjoying the match making as of late. Way too many perfect-war ties, and way too many matches with clans that have one very engineered village as their #9 or #12 that clears our #1 with ease.
@bdb You sound like you may be more than mediocre. We’ve been getting a lot of engineered clans too, but haven’t had any perfect wars (either side).
What TH level are you?

We’re still alive and well… Our clan is currently at max capacity, so I’m going to be doing some cleanup after the current round of Clan Games is over. If I can’t tell that you’ve played, you’re fodder for the boot.

Hi guys… I didn’t know this was a thing. I play Clash of Kings myself but I’m curious how you guys like your game. It’s quite addicting and time consuming I find.
@Amila99 Our clan is about a month short of 4 years old. There are only a handful of us left that are from here. Those of us that are, are addicted to the game. I’ve never played Clash of Kings (too involved with Clash of Clans & Clash Royale (also A Mediocre Clan)), so I don’t know the differences, but I’m guessing they are similar.
There have been many good changes to CoC lately that have improved the game play. They’ve introduced some new and different concepts (siege machines, magic items, & TH12), lowered upgrade costs and times, and improved your ability to actually use the heroes you’ve spent so much time & resources upgrading. I feel like the game is much more fun to play now, than it was a couple of years ago.
