This Blu-ray player is good at playing Blu-ray. Full stop.

We would be pissed if we paid full price for this expecting to use it to watch Netflix and Hulu and YouTube. Like the Amazon reviewers who said “Worthless piece of crap” and “HORRIBLE WORTHLESS JUNK NIGHTMARE” and “God I hate this thing. I might use it for target practice.”

Hell yes! You tell 'em! Fire away!

It doesn’t have built-in wi-fi despite the weasel words “Wi-Fi ready” on the packaging. You need to buy a wi-fi dongle (or connect to your home network with an Ethernet cable).

Even if you can get it connected, the user experience for Netflix is evidently so terrible and frustrating and screwed up that one Amazon reviewer gave up trying to select the movie he wanted to see and just watched what was already selected: an episode of New Girl. Nobody should have to do that.

Philips aimed so low on this one they didn’t even include an HDMI cable. So why are we even bothering to sell this hunk of junk? What’s the big idea? What’s the point?

It’s a Blu-ray player for the price of a Blu-ray disc. If that’s what you need, that’s what this is. That’s seriously all you should think of this as. You could run an Ethernet cable to it, or add your own wi-fi dongle, and mess around with the frustrating, glitchy apps. They’ll probably work, after a fashion. But at this price, no complaining allowed.
