@ninkorn Yeah I read'um too, same thing with wally world but most nag about personal disappointments as they fail to read the phamplet thoroughly and get peed because it won't multi-task but hay, for fifteen bucks it would make a good DVD player (which it is). If you can sweep through the irrevelant whiners you will notice those who understand it's workings arent disappointed at all and they paid three time meh's asking price. I think one starring an item because it was delivered in a crushed box is ludercris and not giving justice to the product itself. Most of 'um are the ones who couldn't set the clocks on their new VCR contraptions.. Whadda you think?
@studerc Absolutely horrible. Not only must you go sit in a corner, but you now must apologize to everyone for the horrible pun. That...and no ice cream or chocolate for a month! And..um...yeah, you must wear the trip glasses for an hour. Yeah. I went there!
Hmm... if this actually had Wi-Fi support out of the box, I would probably buy it. What's the cheapest way to tack on an internet connection to this thing without running a network cable across the house?
Have been waiting for a cheap blu-ray player that just plays blu-rays. I have a bunch of Disney movies in blu-ray only and when I have the children watch a movie in the bedroom with the DVD player, their options have been limited. Already have a Roku in there, so I don't care about the apps and the "wifi-ready". Thanks meh.
If I actually had any blu-ray discs, I'd be all over this. Alas, we have a huge crate full of DVDs (and ~gasp~ VHS tapes) that we rarely dig out because all we watch is Netflix and Hulu+.
@PurplePawprints If you ever want to go blu-ray... Pawn shops are the best places for blu-ray discs. Always buy them used. They're just about all made with a special coating that very effectively resists scratches. You can easily find them for $2 to $5 at many pawn shops.
I have one that I got from that other place that once happened to be real similar... but I got the wireless model. Anyway, does a good job on blu-rays. I can't complain. But I don't need another player right now. Meh.
@Cinoclav ---- let's pass a law so that all of the package forwarding companies have to be located in rhode island, that way we won't notice it on the map!!!!
ya know........ i really loved the blue ray releases a few years back with all of the extra schmuck they put on them, i bought a few for the content and the extra schmuck. but then i said, whoa....... these really are costly and take up space and occupy too much of my time with the extra schmuck and i only watch them a couple of times at most and then not the extra schmuck, so why not just stream them and save money in the process. some people have hundreds of movies piled up in a stack on the floor with no time to watch them all ever again, so long live digital media streaming! meh, meh, meh........!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will this play my BBC Earth: Life Blue-ray (David Attenborough-Narrated Version)? Because Oprah absolutely destroyed the American version. It's formatted to broadcast in 50hz (EU standard), rather than 60hz (US standard). Oprah sucks!!!
@Thumperchick Sort of an anti "shit, I forgot and paid for another month when I don't know for sure I'll use it?" Extra handy, thanks :) and I bought my first bluray player! I don't actually own any blurays, but I needed a dvd player and I'm willing to try fighting this with an ethernet cable
I have a Roku so I don't need the apps, but I'm still passing on this one. I have a feeling I'll kick myself for adding a sub-mid-range player to our pawn-shop-pieced-together home theater.
Honest question, has anyone here ever used BD-Live? I always forget it's a thing until I read the back of a Blu-Ray case. Seems like something that is already dead in the water.
@PanicSwitch Seems like when I've looked out of curiosity or boredom, the "live" content seemed to be from about the time that the disc was released. And mostly just "news" about other related crap you could buy. Or maybe I did it wrong.
I did it. I bought the damn thing. BUT in my defense, I no longer have a blu-ray player and my daughter has a lot of blu-ray discs just sitting around that I'm sure she would love to watch. $15 for it? Free shipping as a VMP? Yeah... I did it.
I've been wanting a cheap bluray player and my TV in the bedroom is right next to my modem so as a bonus I can use the remote instead of getting up from the bed to click my mouse to continue playing when Netflix thinks I've fallen asleep but really I'm just a lazy ass and haven't moved a muscle in 3 hours.
Thanks for encouraging and supporting my laziness.
This might be my first purchase where I also click the meh button. I feel strongly meh about this, but for fifteen bucks I can now get blu-ray discs. I think I might already have one or two that came with DVD discs. I don't care about the WiFi or apps. There's already an eight-port Ethernet switch behind the stereo and apps are covered by the AppleTV/AirPlay, Roku 3, and the stuff built in to the receiver that I already don't use.
IF I had already bought something else and signed up for the VMP thingy, I might have pulled the trigger. But the extra 33% price increase for shipping... meh.
Problem is I have DVD players 'n recorders coming out of my meh hole (not revealing the uncountable VCR players).. But... Fifteen bucks? It was either that or a semi-tasting Mexican muncher at Jose's (somewhere) on the Border. Now I have yet another purdy machine that I can stack on top of my other purdy machines to give my infrequent guests the illusion that I'm some kinda 'lectronic genius.
I've needed a BluRay for years now (I bought TONS of Blurays at a steep steep discount while picking at the bones of the last Blockbuster in town). I don't give a damn about apps, given that I have a SmartTV, an XBox360, a Roku and a Chromecast, all which do the only service that matters to me, Netflix and YouTube.
Straight shoot me an answer: about how long do these things take to ship and get here?
I'm 99% sure I got this deal but I never got an email confirmation and I don't know why. I even clicked the button that's supposed to send you one. I have the transaction laid out in my bank account from meh so I already know that they are taking my money, I just want to make sure that I am actually getting the thing.
@grandarkanum if we're taking your money you're getting your thing. Go to meh.com/orders and you'll see what you've ordered. If you didn't get the email even if you clicked, you might need to do all of the normal boring things like check your spam folders and all that.
Just got mine today in the mail. At first I put in a dvd from the UK and it didn't work. I tried the hack that is linked to in a comment above and it didn't seem like anything happened. Well I put the dvd back in and it worked like a charm. Also plays my US blu-rays and CDs. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you meh.com. I almost bought one from Amazon for $80. You saved me $60. Thank you!
Eh, that's the question I guess. First time I plugged it in via HDMI it would boot, show me a screen, then nothing (even if I put a DVD in). After 10 minutes of playing with it, I posted on here then tried the VGA cables, it works and now so does the HDMI. Just not sure what was wrong the first time.
Updated the software from their servers, so hopefully the issue is completely gone. If not....meh.
Got ours tonight. The player & the speakers all look pristine - but the original mfg. re-taped ripped/torn, totally crapped up box it came in inspires zero confidence. Have to try & see if the important part of the show - the player itself - actually works......but the packaging makes me feel just by looking at it that I really shouldn't have done this. Large ball-point pen "X" on the top of the ripped-up/re-taped box doesn't help, either.

@mediocrebot Amazon has the same one I think (Missing the N at the end of the model Number). Conveniently left out and the reviews say its mostly crap, but $15 is a no brainer price, if I needed one I'd definitely buy and try it: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-BDP2100-F7-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00C0R46J2
$15 @ Meh.com (posterity)
Don't need. Meh!
Meh.com: Convincing you to subscribe to VMP with a Bag of Innocence. Tempting you to buy things you don't need with free shipping.
I stayed up for this meh?
@GeeNay No one asked you to stay up.
Horrible reviews on Amazon. Will have to pass
@ninkorn Yeah I read'um too, same thing with wally world but most nag about personal disappointments as they fail to read the phamplet thoroughly and get peed because it won't multi-task but hay, for fifteen bucks it would make a good DVD player (which it is). Would use if I had some blu-ray movies... Now if you tell me that's next then you have my attention.
@ManWithMilk HD, then 4K files, no question. Physical media is dead.s dead
Don't need it, but for 15 bucks, it makes a good cheap option for the kids room....semi-meh
Seeing this deal really blu my mind. I RAYlly couldn't see anyone ever really wanting this...I know, I know.
I'll go sit in the corner now...
@studerc Absolutely horrible. Not only must you go sit in a corner, but you now must apologize to everyone for the horrible pun. That...and no ice cream or chocolate for a month! And..um...yeah, you must wear the trip glasses for an hour. Yeah. I went there!
@studerc You are already the scapegoat, you don't need to reinforce it with such horrible puns...
@SavvySapphire but I suffer from seizures...A little too far. :) just blame it on @studerc he deserves it.
@studerc ok not the evil glasses then. But yeah it's all um apparently your fault...so um yeah.
@SavvySapphire Well, you said he has to wear them, not that they have to be on and doing their seizure-tripping-thing. That's punishment enough.
Mehriffic.
These are hackable for region unlocks and other goodies.
@xarous Linux?
@GiantTarget You can do simple hacks with remote and Google searches.
I have a Roku3! Roku rules! However if you don't have a Roku you can try it. Meh~
@wookjinchoi My Blu-ray disc didn't fit in the Roku! Blargh!
Meh, this is seriously a really meh offering.
Something something Georgia red. Something meh something.
@jsh139 Sorry this isn't a Red-Ray player.
@jsh139 Your effort leaves much to be desired.
@jrwofuga haha, I was too tired to remember the actual saying :)
meh. Who needs a Blu-ray player anyway? I'm fine with the good ol' DVD player
@SavvySapphire or a regular old upconverting DVD player.
@Stumpy91 I had a Phillips upconverting player. Glitchy as all get-out.
Hmm... if this actually had Wi-Fi support out of the box, I would probably buy it. What's the cheapest way to tack on an internet connection to this thing without running a network cable across the house?
@Dankk Try this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005WKIKA0?qid=1411616650&sr=8-1
@Dankk Power line adapters.
$15 for a blu ray player? Worth it just to toss it into the Yankee Swap at Christmas!

@Talidan Thanks for the tip! I'll keep it in mind if I ever decide to make the switch.
@PurplePawprints I gave over 300 VHS tapes to Goodwill this year. It still hurts.
M E H !
I have one that I got from that other place that once happened to be real similar... but I got the wireless model. Anyway, does a good job on blu-rays. I can't complain. But I don't need another player right now. Meh.
So, what can this be hacked into?
@olegoode De-meh-lition time? Hell yes!
Dear Meh, I give you points for truthiness. A rare but admirable commodity.
어멋 이건 사야해!!!

@StaySharp This makes things more interesting...
@StaySharp This link seems to imply that it works in the UK but not in the US.
Well I had no TV, now Meh is sending me one. Now they are sending me something to play my DVDs. Works for me!
I'd get one, but I already have two Blu-Ray players and a third just collecting dust. A fourth would be insane.
@BillLehecka I meant to say earlier if you stack them then only the top one gets dusty. Buy one to protect your better third one.
meh
Close....real close to pulling the trigger...(don't tell Roy)
Well, a meh is as good as a mile.......
Why does the state thingy always show "everybody" in california buying stuff? I'm in california and I haven't bought 99% of the meh that's sold here.
so it's a lie! a damned lie!
lisaviolet - experiencing poutrage
@lisaviolet it's those silly South Koreans having them sent to package forwarding companies in the LA area.
@Cinoclav ---- let's pass a law so that all of the package forwarding companies have to be located in rhode island, that way we won't notice it on the map!!!!
@lisaviolet whoa calm down before you get lisa violent!
@JonT You wouldn't like her when she's angry.
@JonT Okay, that's it. You're not the boss of me....reaching into bag of used litter clumps, starts winging them at Jon...
@Cinoclav Seriously? Rat bastards.
@bayportbob I'll vote for that!
@Jakobson01 Enters Pizza Delivery Guy
De-meh-lition time to make a blue laser pointer! Might have to pick one or two up.
I have seen what is to come in the next fukubukuro, i am tempted to not buy it but I prob will try
@sp3ar huh?
The question is: Will it blend?

@bayportbob Who you calling a schmuck, Willis? I think the word you're looking for is "schmutz".
@InFrom There has to be a better Yiddish word for unneeded blu ray features. I'm going to do some research.
@mossygreen drek?
@Kleineleh THAT'S the one! Thanks--I was stuck on chazzerai, which I knew was not the one.
@mossygreen my only other thought was mishegas, but it doesn't roll off quite as well
@Kleineleh It's such a great language with which to say stuff is awful, isn't it?
@bayportbob Schmuck:
@DaveInSoCal Exactly.
@DaveInSoCal I think most people who use that word don't know what it means
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
I can't believe no one has asked teh most important question: Does it work with an iPhone 6?
I was briefly tempted to buy this, but then I remembered I have an old tube TV and there's not much point to a blu-ray player
@Kleineleh you and me both...
Will this play my BBC Earth: Life Blue-ray (David Attenborough-Narrated Version)? Because Oprah absolutely destroyed the American version. It's formatted to broadcast in 50hz (EU standard), rather than 60hz (US standard). Oprah sucks!!!
@phatmass I have all of the Life and Planet Earth DVDs narrated by David Attenborough. I love them and I agree, the Oprah versions are just awful!
@phatmass
Might have to make this my first meh purchase... now if I do the $5 a month thing is $5 for the calendar month or $5 per 30 days?
@Pantheist 30 days. The end date will show on your account page once you're a member. You'll also have the option to cancel your membership there.
@Ignorant That is exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks :)
@Pantheist You can also cancel VMP at any time and it will stay in place for the full 30 days.
@Thumperchick TY for that tip. I was not aware of that.

Got it to replace the DVD player in the basement. Now the mother-in-law won't be limited in movie selection when she visits.
I did it. I bought the damn thing. BUT in my defense, I no longer have a blu-ray player and my daughter has a lot of blu-ray discs just sitting around that I'm sure she would love to watch. $15 for it? Free shipping as a VMP? Yeah... I did it.

@SSteve we missed the opportunity in the story to specifically endorse this use of the meh button. well played.
IF I had already bought something else and signed up for the VMP thingy, I might have pulled the trigger. But the extra 33% price increase for shipping... meh.
@ruouttaurmind
Statistics show that the three states that watch a lot of movies would be California, Texas and New York....... heh heh heh meh ....

@SIMBM very nice, thanks for the link. Sorry @harrison, no need to de-meh-lition this one.
Noticed this has a USB port and an HDMI port. Would one of these Blu Ray players work with a laptop?
I've needed a BluRay for years now (I bought TONS of Blurays at a steep steep discount while picking at the bones of the last Blockbuster in town). I don't give a damn about apps, given that I have a SmartTV, an XBox360, a Roku and a Chromecast, all which do the only service that matters to me, Netflix and YouTube.
Straight shoot me an answer: about how long do these things take to ship and get here?
@senorweird Where do you live? I'm in Dallas and my products get here the day after they ship.

Got mine today, in the US, can't get it to work. HALP?
Edit: Not sure what I did, but apparently it just needed time sending an analog signal to make the HDMI work....
This raises serious qc questions
@JeepDude so it's not working consistently?
Eh, that's the question I guess. First time I plugged it in via HDMI it would boot, show me a screen, then nothing (even if I put a DVD in). After 10 minutes of playing with it, I posted on here then tried the VGA cables, it works and now so does the HDMI. Just not sure what was wrong the first time.
