@OnionSoup I taped the 1983 TV movie “The Day After” when it was first shown. People were warned not to watch it alone, so the tape sat on my shelf for years until I finally got up the courage to watch it. It was brutal. I have it on DVD now and somehow I ended up with an extra DVD (anybody want it?). Here’s the scene. Brace yourselves at the three-minute mark if you decide to watch it.
@ItalianScallion@OnionSoup …it was very surreal, but I found the filmmaking choices to display the horror, very interesting for its time! Lmk how to be in touch to mail it! Thanks
@clutterbug Of course now that someone wants the DVD, I just went looking for it in the usual places I’d expect to find it and it’s not in any of them. I’ll keep on looking and I’ll whisper you if/when I find it. In the meantime, you can (surprisingly) find the whole movie on YouTube here.
@ItalianScallion It’s ok! Happens to me a lot-especially when I’ve changed the location of the item from its original haphazard placement …and then I remember nothing! No pressure, & thanks for letting me know it’s on YouTube! Now, to find the time to watch it!!! Lol
@ItalianScallion@OnionSoup
They’ve got so many good movies free on YouTube now, it’s great! And the one good thing about getting old (there’s definitely more than one, grandkids and it not making a difference when you get your 3 hours of sleep in are also on the top of my list) is that all movies are new again if I haven’t watched them in a while! The actors are familiar but I’ve forgotten enough of the story that they’re always enjoyable! Thanks for the link, that makes it much easier.

The US military had been embargoing the reporting on all of that, and so Hershey had to smuggle all his notes and manuscripts out of Japan to get them published
it was a magazine article with an impact possibly like no other article in history
it’s really really really grim reading
so many people had injuries that … well … they were probably sorry to be alive and they probably didn’t want to survive their injuries whether they could or not
And that, of course, doesn’t count at all for the people near the blast center, who simply vaporized more or less
But the article (and later book) is simply a. masterpiece
@ItalianScallion@OnionSoup -it was very surreal, but I found the filmmaking choices (to display the choices) really unique, especially in its time period! Lmk how to be in touch, to mail. Thanks!
@heartny they need to Rebrand the IRK to something that starts with an A. Why you ask? That way we can all just say SSDA which is what we used to say with at the hospital I worked at. On a GI floor
@Kyeh I’m assuming that you meant you don’t get it, rather than don’t like it. If not, then ignore the rest of this.
I had to think about it for a while, too, and my best guess is a reference to the Small School Districts’ Association, ssda.org (pretty sure it’s not that).
If I’m guessing at it correctly, it’s a variation of “SSDT”, which I learned as “SSDP” (for “pile”). Apparently it’s also common as SSDD (D=day).
Ten minutes of excitement which is sometimes extended by staring at the unopened box followed by much thought about who can I gift this stuff to. AND, IF I’M REALLY LUCKY I’ll get some sort of toaster oven air fryer combo unit because I’ve gone WAY too long without one since ours died, 3 YEARS AGO!
@jouest@Lynnerizer yeah I’ve given away too from irks. Because they were the big monstrous ones one of them was probably almost 2 ft tall. Way bigger than I needed or wanted.
@jouest
I sure did! The chef/cleaner said he really didn’t want one, he was going through a phase where he wanted nothing cluttering up his countertop. He finally caved… YAY ME!
@Cerridwyn@jouest
Yeah I know what you mean, some of them are gigantic! I gave one to my niece for Christmas and she was intimated by it’s size and just didn’t really have the space for it.
An irk bag of course. As for what else? Who knows. I sure don’t. Hopefully nothing that is broken trash. I’ve gotten a lot of that over the last 18 months with a few good things mixed in on rare occasion. But then that is the norm so I can’t exactly justifiably complain. Fingers crossed, knocked on wood, petted a cat, and hoping for the best. More cat food would be nice. They liked that.
I do not know but I did just receive my shipment notice so whatever it is, it will be soon.
Hopefully not another drum set, the first one was awesome since my grandson will love it when he gets it but I don’t need a second one, thank you very much.
Regret?
@narfcake well sure, that
Those Go Time Gear Emergency Ponchos on Sidedeal?

@aetris Living the IRK life, I see.

A trip to the donation bin.
@Ignorant Always. Every. single. time.
@Ignorant don’t those nice people receiving the donations have enough problems??
Hopefully something fun and quirky that I can add to my Christmas games prizes stash!!!
Same crap, different IRK.
@heartny they need to Rebrand the IRK to something that starts with an A. Why you ask? That way we can all just say SSDA which is what we used to say with at the hospital I worked at. On a GI floor
@Cerridwyn
ISWYDT…& I like it!
@Cerridwyn @chienfou I don’t …

@xobzoo Oh, thanks - yes, I meant I didn’t get it.

@Lynnerizer you missed out on peak air fryer years there
@jouest @Lynnerizer yeah I’ve given away too from irks. Because they were the big monstrous ones one of them was probably almost 2 ft tall. Way bigger than I needed or wanted.

Did I miss the last meh-a-thon what day was it
@flourlover April 1!
My irk will bring luggage! (Trying to make it come true through thoughts). And maybe an awesome irk bag too.
MEALS! DEALS! EELS! AWESOME!
@milstarr
/showme luggage filled with awesome meals, deals, and eels
FOOLS! TOOLS! JEWELS! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot OK, here we go…
/showme luggage filled with fools, tools, and jewels
@milstarr Maybe Mediocrebot’s ideas will bring you… luck?
@milstarr I hope you get that luggage! I was surprisingly satisfied with the cheapo “Italian” luggage set I bought
An irk bag of course. As for what else? Who knows. I sure don’t. Hopefully nothing that is broken trash. @Kidsandliz worst i got was the flocked wreath that immediately made me break out (I’m allergic to that flocking shit)
@Cerridwyn More than once (outside of the irk bag) I have only gotten literal trash, although getting something you are allergic to is likely worse.
A period of wondering if I am losing my shit… since I didn’t order one!!
I do not know but I did just receive my shipment notice so whatever it is, it will be soon.
Hopefully not another drum set, the first one was awesome since my grandson will love it when he gets it but I don’t need a second one, thank you very much.
WORKER BEES! HERCULES! TURKEY GREASE! AWESOME!
