@mfladd another factor in my departure was what seemed to be a constant trend of cheapo fitness trackers, cheapo smartwatches, and LED light strips (I see these sold again last week) leaving me little to check with Meh for really. Except I just bought a blender and I'm wishing I'd been here for the receiver 4 days ago. Such is life.

@jbartus It's meh. Recipe idea's might not be in @medz's Goat plans (could be wrong) unless you want to be gif'd into one. And we have plenty of time for future game (blender) recipes. Nice to see you back.

That was just a pretend attempt to start a football fight. Hopefully mildly humorous. I'm not a Pats fan, but don't hate on them. In fact barely pay attn to the NFL.

When i am a fan, it's cause Dallas does something good, so it's been a drought going on close to 2 decades now. Might have something to do w the owner, who is great at business and is our local clown elsewise.

I mostly just lose horribly in our family fantasy league. And IMHO Goodall is a douche trying to appear statesmanlike.

I find it funny that it categorizes me as “not sure about this whole meh thing” since i come here ~2 a day to read forum to cheer me up from life. I am a generally happy person but lately the news has really been getting to me.

In Belgium, Air Force days - the fries (frites) were fucking amazing, Mayo only - not like ours.

@sammydog01 I have a Georgia Slider..at least I'm pretty sure that's what he is..got two of them when they were teeny tiny. One of them passes away but the one I have is getting huge. He's in a 50 gallon tank right now. I bought them on a trip to Myrtle Beach. It was my friend's daughter's 16 birthday. She wanted turtles so Tammy and I decided to split the cost. Laid my eyes on the for less than a second and I was hooked. They lived on my desk at work for awhile. Everyone would come and see them..watch them play with each other and in the filter bubbles. It really helped when someone would have a bad call, my turtles would make them smile. We also had a big goldfish named Hoover who lived in a big tank. Eventually Hoover went to the big pond in the sky. My manager asked if I wanted to move the turtles to the bigger tank since they were growing up. They lived in that tank for a few years until we moved buildings, after that they came home. I named them Daisy and Duke but a coworker said absolutely not! He insisted that they were Ike and Tina Turtle. I just call mine Mr. Turtle. I love him to death. Most people don't realize how much personality turtles have. What kind do you have?

@mehbee Awww! I have a red eared slider, an eastern painted turtle, and I think a red bellied slider. They are in a 75 gallon tank but spend summer days in a baby pool on the deck. I got them in 1991 or 1992. I prefer my dog. But they are kind of cool.

@mehbee I put chicken wire around the edge so they don't climb out, although the biggest one once climbed about halfway up. I have been debating getting one of those baby pools with the slide.

@mehbee My guys would shred that. I get these at Walmart. I put some rocks and that special wood that sinks in the bottom so they can sun themselves.

I use 2 foot chicken wire and bend the top in because one almost climbed out once.

@FroodyFrog True. BUT, people coming to this site should lurk for a bit to see what they are getting into. We are mostly good people, but we also have skins thickened over time for the nature of this site. That’s why we can say “FUCK” here. This definitely is not the “Mary Poppins” site.

That said - when we see someone is hurting I have seen us support them; when there is a serious question I have seen it answered - but at times that question will also get a funny response. It is who we are.

I have also seen a few unfair jabs to newbies - some warranted, some not. Anyone can survive here and prosper - learn the lay of the land and play fair. (ok, I don’t always play fair but that is just because @jaremelz, @carl669, and @joelmw need a spanking)

I’m not denying that statistically, mehmbers here are good at helping people, the problem is though that the negative points seem to be noticed more than the positive points.

(And no, I don’t have any idea to fix that. But that’s not my job. I’m merely pointing things out.)

@jbartus @mfladd Hey, we used to go to Olive Garden. I’m poor and I can admit it. I wouldn’t call it fine Italian cuisine, but it’s food, more or less. I might call it “mighty fine, EYE-talian vittles.”

It’s more the gluten–as emblemized in the breadsticks. They’re supposed to do gluten-free and we even went there a couple of times when I was a celiac newb. Both times, our waitresses said, basically, “um, you don’t want to try to eat gluten-free here; we’re gonna kill you.” A third time in a, desperate situation, with limited options, we went in and asked if they could be extra careful and we were told, “It’s just not possible.” I appreciate the honesty; we left and never went back.

They especially warned us off the salad, which, theoretically, without the croutons, is supposed to be safe. Apparently they have big tubs full of the shit (and based on their description, I think “shit” is the appropriate term) and scoops that go back and forth and it’s basically asking for cross-contamination. And the whole arrangement, as it’s been described to us, is chaos, with uneducated runners (and, truly, a runner is typically a wait person in training, so they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing) and semi-educated wait staff (because, c’mon, OG isn’t where you “rise to” in the food service industry) running amuck.

No offense to Olive Garden. If not for my medical condition, we’d probably still eat there on desperate occasion.

Hell, I sometimes miss McDonald’s. I especially miss the McRib. My wife thinks I’m crazy. I guess I have a thing for processed and pressed food-like substances.

I have been seeing a steady increase in gluten free offerings though so it seems to me as an outsider non-celiac concerned person that things are getting better and there is a growing awareness in the industry of the needs of people with your condition

2. You, @compunaut, and @mfladd have all suggested that people lurk first just to get a “feel” of the land. However, while in no way do I suggest that it wouldn’t be helpful, that doesn’t exactly necessarily help.
   A person could think that they would be able to handle it, but then when it’s focused on them, they can be overwhelmed, especially if there’s a backlash.

Please note that this does not mean that I’m suggesting that if a person comes here, and their first post is just full of cursing and insults, or anything that breaks these rules that they should be treated completely respectfully. That would just be idiotic on everyone’s part.

Rather, I’m suggesting in this post (which chances are I will end up contradicting just because I will lose my train of thought), that they get eased into the Meh lifestyle.

And no, that doesn’t mean completely changing who you are. I don’t think I’d be able to handle it.
Rather, from what I’ve seen, most people here are capable at being tame at times.
