@Wollyhop From my source on the internets so I know it’s true:
This image was created by a Japanese neurologist.
It stays still when you are calm. It begins to move when you experience a slight amount of pressure. It moves like a carousel when under a great deal of stress.
I do find if I take a deep breath and relax, the movement stops…but it’s only Monday!
@Wollyhop@ybmuG I do like neurologists. When I had my thing, I ended up with a lot of nerve damage due to a severe septic infection while I was comatose. I had a kind German doctor (neurologist) who let me know that nerves can and do repair themselves, but it takes some time… but it isn’t guaranteed to happen. I spent a few runs in the MRI machine to make sure my brain wasn’t broken, and after a month I was able to feel the top of my head again (it’s very weird when you can’t) and my thumb started working again after a few months. I still can’t feel my toes or my forearms, but it’s only been three years and I’m thankfully patient because I am able to be here to be patient Maybe I’m getting used to it… I don’t know Go science!
@OnionSoup I really have to work rotating my view around the corners to get it to move even slightly. It is perfectly still for me without doing that and even when doing that initially.
@Kidsandliz what about if you slowly circle your gaze around the centre? For me, it’s the change in focal point that makes it move. Hold your head still and you move your eyes.
@Kidsandliz@tinamarie1974 Huh. When I tried it the first time this afternoon, it was moving like crazy. Then a few minutes later it only seemed to move a little bit, roughly in time with my pulse (?!)
Now, 12 hours later, I can hardly get it to move at all. (Kind of bummed, I thought the illusion of movement was cool.)
Odd. I wonder if our brains memorize it, realize it’s not actually moving, then counteract the illusion.
Or… maybe I’m just overthinking it.
@Kyeh@shahnm As far as I know, they are just optical illusions, and they have been around for a while. Here’s one from 2009 (Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes!) :
So apparently it was NOT created to show your stress level (color me stunned! I mean everything you read on the internet is true, right??) It was attributed to a Japanese artist, but was actually by a Ukrainian artist about 10 years ago.
I especially like the artist’s (Yurii Perepadia) statement after fighting a bunch of Twitter posts falsely claiming its diagnostic powers:
“In any case, an optical illusion is not the best way to tell if you’re stressed. If you are at all worried about your mental health, then it’s better to see a qualified professional than to try to self-diagnose from Twitter.”
Everything’s moving. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!?!?!?!?

Guess I’m feeling pretty zen… It’s totally still
@chienfou I assume you are not currently pulling a shift in the ED
@chienfou Same.
@macromeh
Nope… worked over the weekend, not due back until March now.
I can see it both ways. Think I’ve figured it out…
If you move your eyes around on the picture slightly it moves. If you hold your vision still in the center it doesn.
Try moving your eyes anti-clockwise around the four corners. The image will move.

@Kidsandliz @OnionSoup yeah - that seems to be the key for me, moving my eyes, especially if I’m looking just off the image
It seems to move very slowly, then stops. Then moves slightly and stops again.
@tinamarie1974 Working at it to get it to move like suggested above I managed to get it to move as you are describing.

That image really fires up the old neurons. This one doesn’t move at all.
@rockblossom Is it supposed to?
@Kyeh @rockblossom D’ya think it’s bad if it is moving, though??

If the small image isn’t doing much, open it in a new tab and get the larger one.
It’s a .jpg. Make it a .gif and we’ll talk It is a cool image though

@heartny Oh, that lower one definitely jiggles around for me! None of the others have, so far.
@heartny BTW, I found some fabric for you.
@Kyeh Thank you! And who said the perfect fabric didn’t exist?!
@heartny I also saw balloon dog wrapping paper at World Market after Christmas!
I have depth perception issues. Nothing is moving.
Except my blood pressure, that’s through the roof
