VMP Sneak Peek: Slash Commands (Part 7)

11

Sometimes, before we roll out new site features, we try them out on our guinea pi- er, VMP friends first.

  • Y’all went crazy with the /giphy command in part 1 of VMP Sneak Peek: Slash Commands.
  • Then we added the /shrug command and editor auto-completion in part 2.
  • In part 3, we added /cowsay to see what it would be like in a forum to add a Unix-style command line application.
  • In part 4, we added /youtube support.
  • In part 5, we added /image support which works well when searching for images of order numbers.
  • In part 6, we added /woot support and tried to search active woot.com deals for a noun that returned only a single result.

I’m pretty excited about today’s update.

/captionbot [image-url] generates a caption for an image.

/captionbot

I think it’s a cat that is looking at the camera.

We’re using Microsoft Cognitive Services to do the AI.

Captionbot.ai is a demo-app that describes what it sees in images. Captionbot.ai can understand thousands of objects, as well as the relationships between them; it can do celebrity-recognition and, if it thinks it is seeing a selfie, it will even match you to a celebrity!

I can’t wait to see how this slash command turns out.
