Let’s take a look back on our favorite Mehmories
19You may be noticing a theme here today…but hey, we’re kinda excited that we’ve managed to still be kicking around the ruthless ecommerce internet space after a year. It’s important to take the time to reflect and look back on all of the crap you've done during these special occasions.
What are your fondest memories of the past year? I want your favorite product stories, videos, piece of crap that we’ve sold, community events, etc.
For me it’s very hard to beat the first speaker dock story where we told everyone what we really think of them, but I also loved the super in-depth and informative look at the 808 by @JasonToon.
As far as videos go I’m partial to all of the ones that I’m in, but other than those, this Ask Irk still stands as one of the best of all time:
Oh @ceagee…@ceagee, @ceagee, @ceagee…
And of course the topic where former-goat @carl669 asked if we were dumber than him that made @marklog famous infamous. Special mention goes to the entirely community written story where we sound like crazy people.
Another honorable mention to @medz and his gifs!
What are your fondest Mehmories?

So many good gifs, thanks @medz
@jont tl;dr
Yeah @medz the gifs are amehazing (see what I did there?)
Of course my favorite memory is this one
Worst product ever: JLab Premium Metal Earbuds. I purchased two pairs and immediately threw them in the trash.
@jimmyd103 bluetooths modo now open?
@jimmyd103 Yeah, I saw the reviews on the JLabs and ran, ran, ran.
@PocketBrain You are smarter than me. I figured they would be average and good to keep around as a throw away set for travel. Boy was I wrong.
Aw, shucks. Thanks @JonT and @hollboll!
One of my fondest memories was scoring an epic kickstarter fukubukuro that had a Roomba and a letter that stated I would be getting another item. That extra item turned out to be a re-gifted bag of dirt, but I can't complain. I mean, you ship a guy a bag o' dirt and you're gonna have a life-long customer. That's business 101.
Favorite crappy purchase would have to be the $15 smart watch. For $15, it's like a sore peter; you can't beat it.
Favorite video: No one gives a shit about your fitness thing. It's true. Nobody cares. If they say otherwise, they're lying to you.
Free MVP surprises are awesome. Daily videos and write-ups are usually pretty decent. (@jasontoon and @matthew) I like how @snapster occasionally pops into the forums to tell whiners what's what. Customer service has been good. I like how we get peeks into how things work at meh via labstreams, interviews, video tours, etc... It's nice getting to know the people of meh...and of course making gifs of those people for my personal amusement.
Keep up the good work! Here's to another great year.
I remehmber when everyone got mad cause @JasonToon said "Fuck" in the write-up and everyone went way crazy saying "fuck" for a couple weeks afterward. I remehmber when Meh sold a speaker dock. I also remehmber when the east coast got mad at the west coast for buying all the stuff before they got a chance to buy all the stuff. I remehmber when Meh sold a speaker dock. I remehber when @BillLehecka was the worst goat ever to be a goat. I remehmber when @carl669 brought "fuck" back and it was cool again. I remehmber when Meh sold a speaker dock. I remehmber when @Barney said something other than "I Love Purple" and it was fucking crazy. I remehmber when @someone got a pallet of broken TVs in a fuku. I remehber when @JonT promised everyone prizes for everything, but I got one of the few real surprises when he sent me a free out-of-the-blue fuku that had a trophy from Camp Kachina that I'll keep forever or until the wife tosses it. I remehmber when @hollboll told me where to go for my vacation and was later mauled by @medicrobot. I remehmber when Meh sold a speaker dock. I remehmber when @MrsPavlov was possibly the coolest wife ever. I remehmber breakfast octopus. I remehmber the Korean Floods (where did all those nice people go?) I remehmber when Meh sold a speaker dock.
I'll stop now, I'm starting to tear up.
@RedHot Oh goodness, the great curse debate of 2014...I wish I could forget it.
@RedHot I remember the Korean Floods! Someone asked for a free "pig nose" (power converter thingy) and apparently that made other Koreans on the forum SO upset. Don't know why. Ah- good times... I believe they are still here, just haven't been on the forum lately.
@RedHot - It's like deja-vu all over again. Thanks for recapping the last year so well.
@KDemo Word. :)
@RedHot fuck yeah!
Great memories, @RedHot. Thanks. Also, I knew that once I started talking, I wouldn't shut up, so now you guys are stuck with me. :)
@RedHot Well done! Ah, I almost forgot about the Koreans. They have been oddly quiet. I would also like to add "bath" to your recap. sigh I remehmber getting 50 or so neoprene thingies. I do recall a speaker dock sale. Batteries. The obvious disdain and disappointment in the Kate Spade purse sale. So mehny fond mehmories.
single tear
Really, too many to mention. My favorite forum moments are whenever @snapster explains business. If someone could find it I would really appreciate it. Also, the beer stuff, because beer. Also a little concerned about how many times @hollboll mentions me in labstreams.
Not my favorite thing: When a co-worker stumbled upon the tl:dr thread and read it to a very well attended meeting.
@marklog Oh, and with the Benedict Cumberbatch...
@marklog Did your co-worker dislike you, or were they just trying to be "funny"?
@hollboll how many times has he winked at you?
@marklog my favorite moment was accidentally discovering a coworker on the internet one day but this has not been discussed in meetings
@marklog all of the times.
I liked the Oh Shit Reports, the Meh site song, the Build NY thread, the Community Exchanges and @kidsandliz "A Night Before Christmas" retelling.
@dashcloud Thanks :) I was really surprised that Irk then read it.
Irk. Just about everything Irk. I so adore that little troll. Loving Glen too.
I still have a slew of PB n' J Spreaders...
But more than anything, I'm grateful for the demise of Totally Not Rigged Games of Chance. God I fucking hated those.
@cinoclav Just wait for TNRGoC, season 2... Nothing brings decrepit things back as quickly as reminding @matthew that they ever existed and haven't been seen in ages.
@curtise no one hated TNRGoC more than I
@matthew You're my damn hero for that.
I really enjoyed the Community Exchanges..but I may be biased.
On another key note for those paying attention, new exchange will be coming down the pipes in the next week. Get excited.
@studerc I'm excited!
@studerc I don't know if this is the 3rd time of me reading this and thinking you're plastering it all over but.. stop being a tease ;)
I've only been here since the DF ads, but that right there was a good memory — that advertising strategy was crazy-go-nuts.
Love reading the reveal threads — Fukus and Exchanges.
Crazy Lisa the lawyer, and the other crazies with outrageous demands or TL;DR accounts of why they're giving up VMP and/or Meh.
That time @JonT said maybe there'd be some moderation when everyone was just posting 'meh' the first few product thread posts, and everyone assumed the world as we knew it was crumbling.
@Barney as goat.
Every OHSHIT report.
That time @unixrab figured out how to break comment threads with malformed HTML.
@brhfl FIRST!
...wait.
@brhfl You must be thinking of some other goat because I wasn't really very good at it, but thank you. And if I keep reading this thread, I'm gonna start shedding purple tears.
One of my favorites was seeing @Barney say something other than "I love Purple" for the first time (probably not actually the first time), after people were making robot accusations. #MindBlown
Aw, thanks, @mehdaf. You make me purple blush.
I really enjoyed the Fuku shenanigans/extras. The Hang Man game, the secret prize locked in the broken shipments, giant gum ball machines, etc. Keep 'em coming!
@mediobarkre Oooo, the safe was one of my favorites, you just reminded me about it.
My favourite ridiculousness/awesomeness was when @phatmass ordered black speakers, but was sent white ones.
Upon being notified of the error, Meh's elite Halp team (customer service) replied that they were out of black ones, and (probably) snarkily suggested that @phatmass should just colour them with a Sharpie.
Ever astute, @phatmass responded that Meh should provide said Sharpie.
And the results were beautiful. Aww yisss!
So many other wonderful things too. Thanks, Meh, for all the entertainment!
@curtise Those speakers ended up sucking. The sound was great. The USB connection meant that I had to turn them off/on a lot for my computer to recognize them. Eventually got tired of it. Like most of my Meh crap, it eventually went to my kids. I think the reaction was, "But dad, they are so ugly."
My favorite has to be "bath" and the neoprene sleeves that caused the shenanigans. I still have 28 of those bad boys in my living room, fiance isn't too happy about that....
@bruinscbr Mine in one of several boxes of crap I bought or came in a mystery box of some sort. I find a use for one every couple months. The flip top kindle ones make great bags for the 808 $8 headsets.
@bruinscbr ..... meh
Oh yeah, I forgot about paper bag @snapster. That was a lot of fun.
My favourite thing was also something I unfortunately missed completely while it was going on:
Evil Lisa vs. Good Lisa battle:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/zero-customer-service
It's beautiful because it's a real thread that reads like fiction. It has all the elements of a great tale: a brave hero, a cacklingly cartoonish villain (complete with minions!), an epic battle, a climax (unfortunately but understandably removed from the thread, the villain has a last desperate charge and calls the hero something that rhymes with James Blunt). The vanquished villain has never been seen again. The valiant hero @lisaviolet was rewarded with goat for the next month. And there was once again peace in the kingdom.
And it all happened that way organically, without--as far as I know--any pre-planning or alteration. Everything fell into place. Just beautiful.
Runners up: Weird/special fukus, the LabCast (cancelled just when it was hitting its stride IMO), Pavlov's goat reign, the first cursing thread, Showbiz Corner, Snapster occasionally shutting some whiner down with a single post, and the way Meh always does the right thing when they genuinely fuck up (i.e. leaky batteries). It's been a great first year.
@Starblind @lisaviolet
@unixrab I remember!
@Starblind That was one bear that didn't need too much poking. And her advocates...they were pretty funny, too. I just can't stand whiners.
@lisaviolet That was no whiner, that was a lawyer!
@brhfl And I'm the queen of England. This is me in my favorite purple hat.
@lisaviolet You look lovely in purple.
The Halo videos- awesome even if it didn't work. Or maybe because it didn't work.
The April Fools site tampering was pretty lol. I also enjoyed the behind the scenes How it Works threads, and especially the Baby Arm product pics.
Taking a cue from @JonT and finding the appropriate gif for any occasion.
The level of empathy fellow Mehers have for one another.
The absence of religious and political entries (yay!)
@Thumperchick - because @Thumperchick.
Meeting the Meh lab rats and looking behind the curtain.
@Snapster and his occasional responses.
I wasn't too enamored of Possum Head Chronicles, that turned my stomach. Pretty big on the "ick" scale.
Swearing. Oh, the swearing with no apologies.
Fukus. The unboxing of the fukus.
At the Meh exchanges, put into action by @studerc.
I'm sure I can think of more, but that damned mockingbird is back and just won't shut the fuck up. I have to go shake my fist at it.
@lisaviolet
American Pharoah winning the Triple Crown and free socks. Gotta love a company that sends you unsolicited, out of the blue, socks.
Fantasy football and mud wrestling with my 74 year old husband. Both brought about by Meh.
One of my favorite mehmories... In the Hospital Day 1 baby, Baby wakes up, But falls back asleep... I think of oh I wonder what's on meh... oh look it's 11:59.... Sweet, wait for it... FUKUBUKURO... OMG baby got me a fukubukuro... and Someone at meh thought to put some kids stuff in it.... but mostly kids stuff that he will not be using for years...
OH other amazing memory was the Neoprene.... first ordering, then hearing meh employees bitch about it. Then the bitching from the people that got it... then my wife bitching about me buying it... then the CRAZY weird work firesale I had... $1.00 each BOGO... I ended up going home feeing like a stripper... I had tons of singles...
Without any doubt at all...
You guys on the forums!
Thanks, everyone.
For me, It will always be the MASSIVE truck pulling up in front of my house and dropping of 200 pair of Trip Glasses. I still have those fuckers sitting on my back porch. I tried selling all them for $2.00 a piece to a couple of people and they only wanted to pay 50 cents. At this point I think I'm going to drop them off at Goodwill. The other good part about this is because of the delivery I had some communication with meh's home office and now I have a nice picture of @JonT on my cel phone with his number.
@somf69 Sounds like you have Halloween handouts for a few years. Although, can you be sued if they have a seizure?
@mehdaf yea, thought about that too, but was worried about the same thing,,,,,
Likes: OhShit reports, because I'm a big geek. Getting @Barney to be goat (took two tries). Ask Irk. The Sharpie. The Fuku items that required extra effort. Singing Cowboy. Some of the Mad Ape Den (but only some).
