@p3dal They're never as good as wired headphones. Plus you have to charge them regularly. I like the idea, but with my busy life wired headphones are just simpler, and I won't have to toss them in ten years when the batteries are leaking.
I've got other HoM gear and it's quality stuff. Clear, crisp and deep base. If I didn't already own eleventydozen pairs of headphones/buds, I'd be all over these.
@thismyusername From what I've gathered from the forum, a "fuku" is a Meh that's like a grab bag for five dollars, and people seem to be really, really into them. Do they just come with really good stuff?
@somf69 Refreshing to me... only one of those many links above highlights that I've been to it - at least on this PC. (Perhaps it was an accidental click.)
@Dizavid the crappest things in the fuku generally have some sentimental value( like the valentines cards). but every once in a while someone gets something worth a lot. previous examples include. a macbook air, multiple roombas, other misc vaccumes and 2 pallets of pbj spredders and glow in the dark stuff
@communist@dizavid you forgot the pallet of broken TV's. I was supposed to be getting them, likely because I had posted I took 2 broken macbooks and made one working one (only took 3 tries and I only had a couple of screws left over) so they figured I could cobble together a working TV (not to mention at the time I didn't have one)... except where I lived a pallet of anything would not have worked out so JonT gave that to someone else (who I believe was able to make a working one). To this day I am not sure if I should be disappointed or relieved. LOL
I have the $180 Sony wireless ones from Costco, and it is great (a different version of this one). It is used at my home office desk, so I'm tempted to use it for my TV when my son is asleep. (I live in a small house.) Of course, that means I'll have to find a bluetooth adapter for the TV now… sigh…
@RedOak I was just commenting on the long term appearance. As for being disgusted, I doubt it. When I worked for Easter Seals "disgusting" only started when our resident coprophagist managed to eat a couple pieces of his shit and smear the rest all over his bedding. Lots of fun brushing his teeth afterwards.
I love my Marley wired headphones. The sound is awesome. The only beef I have is that the wire is a little too short. An extender fixed that. Bluetooth is an even better fix.
I have a set of Sony bt 950's i like a lot. Also nice set of Definitive Technology ones.
Ok not as nice as wired and properly amped hi-end phones. Otoh i've yet to nearly hang myself or trip/fall/wrench-knee/pull-laptop-off-table using bluetooth ones.
@rmeden More than one review mentions "they don't work very well in noisy environments like a bus or train", so mowing is probably out of the question.
@f00l@trisk Thanks. I'll stick with my tried and true for now.. The Worktunes are a little too pricey... Audio quality isn't that important for NPR podcasts anyway!
@f00l I use DoggCatcher on Android as my podcast player.
I listen to most things at 1.5x speed... it makes most shows much easier to listen to! Sometimes Science Friday and StarTalk need to be reverted to 1.0x. Manic Monday's (music) needs to be at 1.0 :)
The skip button on my headset is set to move forward 30 seconds. That should jump over the boring parts of ATC.
I'm kind of tempted here. These look fly. My current headphones have tall ear cups, which should make them more comfortable than most, but I still can't wear the things more than a half hour without discomfort. They're Monoprice. They also look awful and can mess up my hair, so I don't wear them in public. How might these ones compare?
Also, if I go VMP at the very end of the month, is it the same as just paying the five dollars? Or is my next fiver due on the last day of April instead of the first in such a case?
@thismyusername So whenever one decides to buy something, there's no reason not to VMP up, then? It's basically 30 days of free shipping for the same price as shipping an item?
@Dizavid pretty much, and if you cancel it and didn't use it for the 30 days (or receive a rare free gift) they will automatically credit back the $5, so when you notice the $5 charge the next month and think "what the heck I don't want anymore water bottles and knives" just cancel it.
@thismyusername Fantastic. Okay, guess I'm dropping $55 today, then. Do items often sell out on Meh? I probably want to sleep on it, but if it's going to be gone before, say, 5PM, maybe I should just go ahead...
@Dizavid They only sell out when you really want the item.
If you don't really want it, sleep on it and fate will decide for you.
If you just need some bluetooth headphones, there is a 100% chance they will be selling more bluetooth headphones in the future... I honesty have no idea about these other than the fact that they support aptX which is rare around here.
@thismyusername Well, they look really confrotable, and that's the biggest thing. And they look cool, so I would not have to hesitate to wear them in public. Seems like the sound is pretty good, too, at least when you consider the Meh pricing. What's aptX?
@Dizavid Bluetooth tends to garble audio (some people don't notice) due to compression (since bluetooth was originally designed to be low bandwidth).
aptX basically does a better job at compressing the data, so it doesn't loose as much fidelity... but both the sender and receiver(the headphones) must support it for it to work.
@thismyusername Sweet, I just Googled it and it looks like my new Galaxy S7 does support aptX. Oh, man, it's going to be so great not having to use any wires when I don't want to. Ordered it. I have a feeling this is going to be one hella satisfying purchase.
I've had great luck with the Marley headphones I've got - my earbuds sound pretty good (for gym headphones), and they've held up for well over a year. I also picked up an over-ear set, and they're damned-near indestructible. I'm sorely tempted to pick up these, I don't have any Bluetooth headphones yet.
Okay, I have a real question. How come the Meh headphones don't match the 2 color schemes offered by other retailers, and shown at the House of Marley web site? I think we are being conned, these are actually 'House of Markie' headphones...
As a owner of the 808's, I appreciate the combo of overeardedness, optional aux input and the general bluetoothyness of it all. Hmm.. it must be time for me to sleep -my double suffixes are coming out.
Why do reviewers say that headphone jack is proprietary? Because it's not a 3.5 mm? It looks like a standard 2.5 mm jack. I've had plenty adapters of all kinds for this size back in time in Nokia 2.5mm era.
btw gland-boring-game - best order number I've ever had.
Gave my digits to these stalkers ages ago and yet, only my 2nd Meh for some odd reason. Donated enough plasma to cover 80% of the costs on these cans. Can't wait to stir it up. Apparently I'm in here all alone at this hour, just me and my magic. Sincerely, deserted-unlikely-illusionist
I am a sucker for headphones, but these aren't cheap enough to activate the sucker lobe of my brain. If they come back again later cheaper I'll be all over them.
I have a pair of Samsung Level Overs for which I got a reasonable price ($209), as it was an Amazon warehouse deal. BT (or wired), AND noise cancelling. Super comfy too. My only gripe is that they are bulky and don't fold up. I might have considered something like these rasta-cans but without the NC, it's a deal-breaker for me.
Oh, and is it just me, or is the color different (also better) on Amazon? The hay-bale beige is definitely not working.
real meh day, first thing i would have bought in months. 'I want one', submit order! Total is $0 that's weird. Sorry we sold out while you were checking out...NOOOOOOOO. meh, now what am i supposed to do if the other 40 pairs of cans all break!!
@gojets0812 After getting some serious tech yesterday (that Canon Rebel for $294) and then considering getting these... I am very happy for a sell out today!
Please tell me that it'll be in on Monday! The wait is killing me! Please tell me that the April 8 estimate is just in case things go haywire! I neeeeeeeeeed it!
@thismyusername Well, logically, it couldn't arrive any later than Tuesday unless they literally just leave it in a facility just sitting there for two days or more, not counting Sunday.
Either I have elephant ears or these do not come close to being considered "over-ear" or circumaural. This is sad and puts me in a bind. They have been somewhat comfortable for the hour I've had them on, and they sound pretty decent and have better than average passive noise isolation, but it kills me that I can't comfortably wear my glasses with these. Damn the marketing fools that think they can just blur the lines between headphone categories! Don't they realize that our lives depend on shutting out annoying neighbors at the office?
@communist@lucidlemur Sure, my cost includes tax. So, add to that however much it costs to ship to you and I'm happy to pass them on. Let me know if that works for either of you. @communist has first dibs tho
@stryderxx I'm getting the same thing. Mediocre Corp pointed me to House of Marley support but so far they are completely unresponsive. I'm rather unhappy with this purchase so far :(
@texmeh So I did some messing around since I posted. I'm 74.5% sure the issue is the wired cable. I'm pretty sure the last thing I did before it stopped working was plug it in and test how it sounded over the cable. I then did a bunch of random button pressing to try and reset the thing, none of that did anything and in desperation I just started tapping (hard) on the side where the connector plugs in and tried it again and lo and behold it started working! I plugged the wire in again and that killed the left speaker again. 5 minutes of beating on the right cup again and now its been working for like an hour.
@maxdamage FYI I called House of Marley today. It was only a 17 minute call. They are supposed to send me a FedEx label, I am to return the phones to them, and within four weeks they will send me a replacement.
I got mine yesterday. Pretty bass heavy, but adjusting the EQ was able to sort that out. I like them. I wear glasses and have a pretty large noggin. I haven't worn them at length yet, but I'll let you all know how it goes. I'M SURE YOU'RE ALL ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT.
They seem well made, but they lack high end and clarity. I like bass in my headphones, but these are a bit excessive and they lack upper mids and high end that might bring some balance to this farce. No, eq wasn't enough to help. I should add that these are ON ear, not over the ear headphones. Are they worth $50? Sure. I feel sorry for the suckers paying $150 or more for these. I will only use these for Bluetooth. I will never choose them over my wired headphones. This also goes to prove that reviewers on Amazon are idiots. Or deaf. Or both.
Le sigh. Everything about the bluetooth on my pair works except, ya know, music coming out of the headphones. I can play/pause music, adjust the volume of the output from the headphones and even see levels coming in from the microphone, but there's no music unless I plug them in. Same result pairing with my Macbook Pro or my Nexus 5. Most unfortunate.
@krystophv Got mine connected with a Nexus 5 and my laptop (Ubuntu 15.10) via bluetooth. Any connectivity issues were Ubuntu's fault, and the Nexus 5 was flawless. I'd contact HoM and see if they can hook you up with a refund/new pair.
So I'm home after a long day, and I've been testing these things... and I can't stop. It's DESTROYING my productivity. I love them. They look amazing on me, they aren't uncomfortable in the slightest, and they sound great. I guess I hear what you whiners are talking about slightly. I guess higher sounds aren't quite as pronounced as they could be, but I really don't give a crap. It's such a subtle difference that only a major audio otaku would be bothered by it. Ditching the wire is a freedom like I've never known. No more turning my head and flinging my phone onto the floor while I'm cooking. I love, love, LOVE these! Thanks, Meh, but also curse you for destroying my productivity tonight.
@Dizavid Well, I got back on the productivity train and used these headphones to edit my latest YouTube video. It's a Sonic Colors review. Shameless plug? Yeah, let's do it! Shameless plug ahoy!
Got mine yesterday. They're not as comfortable as my Skullcandy Crushers I've been using though. The cup doesn't quite fit around my ear, and that makes them a little uncomfortable with glasses. Build quality is great, and sound is fantastic. I just wish the cups were a little bigger, but these'll be great for short, on-the-go listening, or when riding my bike.
Got mine yesterday and they only play out of the right side/ear. Completely worthless. And, I was really looking forward to these. Second and last time I buy from Meh!
Hindsight is 20/20. These things are heavy, crush my ears (they are on ear vs. over the ear), and apparently DOA from an electronics perspective. No Bluetooth. Seems like these are either refurbs or total crap to begin with. Unimpressed.
Got mine last Tuesday; Already broken (well, came broken, but got worse). I guess the battery came pre-charged, so every night when I was charging them I didn't realize that they were not actually charging. Once the battery finally drained out today I realized that the USB charging port wasn't making contact, and the only way to get the charging light to come on was to press the plug at a weird angle. Then the USB port just broke off and is now rattling around inside of the left ear. Enjoyable while it lasted.
HOM IS NOT HONORING THE WARRANTY!!!!! So, I got mine Thursday and they only play out of the right side/ear. I emailed Meh.com and they said these were under warranty from the House of Marley. I was on the phone for 26 minutes with HOM only to find out they are not honoring the warranty! Samantha (the HOM rep) said that they cannot honor the warranty because it is under the Meh.com's retailer warranty. She said that, "according to Meh.com's website, it specifically states that if the product is dead on arrival that Meh.com will warrant the product". She said they are in process of investigating if Meh.com is even a legitimate website. So will see if Meh.com will do the right thing.
@ddriver just goto the orders page, and do another "I need help with this" under the headphone order and put the info from your post above into the form and send it off, they will take care of the problem.
Also in the future when doing warranty things if they don't know meh.com have them look up "a mediocre corporation" as that is how most places have the authorized retailer name listed.
Mine just stopped turning on. (the 4 lights light up when I plug it into charge, but the power button doesn’t turn on the battery status LEDs or turn it on when held down. I’ve emailed HOM and we’ll see what the response is.

Liberate me from this mediocrity
@chipt4 meh day meh day
@chipt4 No Womeh, No Cry
@chipt4 liberate you from your George washingtons
I saw the "$5" in the sale price and thought for a split second that it was a fuku. Then I saw the extra zero.
Are bluetooth headphones any good yet?
@p3dal if they have an aux in the odds go up
(actually these support aptX which is about as good as your gonna get bluetooth mangle wise)
@p3dal They're never as good as wired headphones. Plus you have to charge them regularly. I like the idea, but with my busy life wired headphones are just simpler, and I won't have to toss them in ten years when the batteries are leaking.
Meh. This deal won't liberate $50 from my wallet.
I've got other HoM gear and it's quality stuff. Clear, crisp and deep base. If I didn't already own eleventydozen pairs of headphones/buds, I'd be all over these.
@RedOx
Why so few?
@f00l @redox he only has eleventydozen heads. One set for each.
@MehnofLaMehncha
@redox
Then he's a real cheapskate. He should have eleventy-eleventy-dozen for each head at least.
enough with the FUKU predictions.....
@somf69 yea everyone no fukus will show for months!!!!

I wish I could read the write-up, but unfortunately I'm illiberate.
$50 for headphones? Hope that's in pesos or something.
@elpepe meh is getting so upscale...
I have the $180 Sony wireless ones from Costco, and it is great (a different version of this one). It is used at my home office desk, so I'm tempted to use it for my TV when my son is asleep. @haydesigner I use this and it works great! bluetooth transmitter
After a couple of months all that fabric will be looking pretty scuzzy.
@cercopithecoid Its called patina maaaaaaan
@cercopithecoid well then, you'd be disgusted by the "used" appearance of the 4-year old tan leather smartcover on my iPad.
@RedOak I was just commenting on the long term appearance. As for being disgusted, I doubt it. Been looking for a good set of kneephones
@MehnofLaMehncha Yes, Bellybuds
http://www.amazon.com/Bellybuds-V2-BBDLX-Bellybuds%C2%AE-Baby-Bump-System/dp/B0097F3YES
But I'll look like an idiot wearing these at the gym
@riceatusc
And?
@riceatusc yeah, it's the headphones that make me look like an idiot at the gym, that's it...
@riceatusc
I've got to ask. Rice University? Twirling mops in the marching band?
I have a set of Sony bt 950's i like a lot. Also nice set of Definitive Technology ones.
Ok not as nice as wired and properly amped hi-end phones. Otoh i've yet to nearly hang myself or trip/fall/wrench-knee/pull-laptop-off-table using bluetooth ones.
I wonder if the sound isolation is good enough for mowing. I currently use hearing protection headphones and BT earbuds.
@rmeden
You might want bluetooth Worktunes for that. Made for it.
@rmeden More than one review mentions "they don't work very well in noisy environments like a bus or train", so mowing is probably out of the question.
@f00l @trisk Thanks. I'll stick with my tried and true for now.. The Worktunes are a little too pricey... Audio quality isn't that important for NPR podcasts anyway!
@rmeden Eww, NPR. Listen to The Biggest Problem in the Universe.
@rmeden I don't know - how sharp is "sound isolation"?
@rmeden Exactly my question.
@Dizavid What's wrong with Marketplace? "Wait Wait Don't Tell me" is entertaining. (things are much better at 1.5x speed :) )
@rmeden A few things on NPR are enjoyable, but that doesn't mean NPR as a whole isn't a steaming heap of liberal garbage.
@rmeden
Have you ever found a simple way to just get the stuff you want from ME and ATC, downloaded to a podcast player, and skip all the rest?
Havent done NPR ever since my first ipod. Havent done radio either, except for a little Sirius.
Cant stand that it's so slow. Cant stand that i cant skip.

It's a no brain-er.

I feel like I read an informercial. Who do I tip.
@snapster since they hid the fishing exceptionally well, both @Dizavid and @thismyusername have earned a free set of these HoM headsets.
Sweet-looking pair of cans, but the bass-heavy sound reproduction has audio snobs ruffled by its muffledness.
@trisk
Then i need some also so that i, too, can hear the imperfection and can feel the outrage.
Apple Watch, pebble time, good over ear headphones... In March when the IRS owns me.
Come July when I have money to spend again this place is going to be nothing but switch knives and Tweety Bird USB sticks. :(
@njd don't forget the water bottles!
I am Chinese, are you trying to say (from your 3rd review quote) I shouldn't buy these???
@madmaxmedia didn't you already make them?
@madmaxmedia no you're fine. It's if you're "chineses"
@canuk Ah I see!! Kind of like the difference between Niger and Nigeria.
@madmaxmedia nah, you're cool. These are fine for Chinese, it's those chineses that need to be wary, the lights don't work for those people.
@AccusingEwe nahh, our 7 year old cousins in China make them
So why aren't headphones called "headspeakers"?
@awk
Well, in French the words for loudspeaker and pregnant at the same (enciente)
I've had great luck with the Marley headphones I've got - my earbuds sound pretty good (for gym headphones), and they've held up for well over a year. I also picked up an over-ear set, and they're damned-near indestructible. I'm sorely tempted to pick up these, I don't have any Bluetooth headphones yet.

@madmaxmedia I'd assume it's a discontinued color and that's why it's here.
@madmaxmedia or the factory made a wee error and that's why they are here.
@madmaxmedia
@cercopithecoid @madmaxmedia
What's that first amazon reviewer say? You can't wash them impregnated? Luckily my wife is on birth control, so we should both be able to clean them.
@louiswins Good catch. My wife is almost always pregnant, and does in fact perform all my headphone maintenance. Cancelling my order now.
As a owner of the 808's, I appreciate the combo of overeardedness, optional aux input and the general bluetoothyness of it all.
Hmm.. it must be time for me to sleep -my double suffixes are coming out.
@one_two3456
Double suffixes?
MOAR!
Why do reviewers say that headphone jack is proprietary? Because it's not a 3.5 mm? It looks like a standard 2.5 mm jack. I've had plenty adapters of all kinds for this size back in time in Nokia 2.5mm era.

@wishod don't worry, be happy, from the specs, in the box:
@RedOak I'm cool, man, but just look at all that fiyah bun in reviews for this fact
Gave my digits to these stalkers ages ago and yet, only my 2nd Meh for some odd reason. Donated enough plasma to cover 80% of the costs on these cans. Can't wait to stir it up. Apparently I'm in here all alone at this hour, just me and my magic. Sincerely, deserted-unlikely-illusionist
expected a more chill price from House of Marley brand, dude. man. bro
I keep hoping for the 808s again.
Best headphones ever sold on this site??? Bluetooth??? Whatever.
@alskoj best post ever
These do not appear to be hypoallergenic. And I can't make calls with them. I'm out.
@Not_Ken_M but you can chew on the leather, think about it!
@wishod
Or a local canine can do my chewing by proxy.
@Not_Ken_M I actually just got mine yesterday, and calls work better with them than any other pair of headphones I've ever owned
real meh day, first thing i would have bought in months. 'I want one', submit order! Total is $0 that's weird. Sorry we sold out while you were checking out...NOOOOOOOO. meh, now what am i supposed to do if the other 40 pairs of cans all break!!
The one time I don't check at 1AM, all sold out. :(
@gojets0812 After getting some serious tech yesterday (that Canon Rebel for $294) and then considering getting these... I am very happy for a sell out today!
Is this XL or XLBT?
@rythmrogue They are bluetooth which would make them the BT version.
@rythmrogue XLGBT
sorry
wow, korea very much enjoyed these phones of the head.
They're now only one state over!
Please tell me that it'll be in on Monday! The wait is killing me! Please tell me that the April 8 estimate is just in case things go haywire! I neeeeeeeeeed it!
@Dizavid smartpost behaves much like a watched pot of water.
@thismyusername Well, logically, it couldn't arrive any later than Tuesday unless they literally just leave it in a facility just sitting there for two days or more, not counting Sunday.
@Dizavid now you've done it.
@Ignorant Jynxed myself have I?
@Dizavid did you?
@Ignorant Yes.
Those jackasses seem to only want to move my product late at night.
@Dizavid no one to blame but yourself. Well maybe @KDemo
@Ignorant @Dizavid - Just wanted to say you're really missing out, they're amazing!
@KDemo Did you steal my shipment?
@Dizavid - mehbe.
Verdict after several hours is that I cannot wear these. They are too uncomfortable, which is too bad because I like everything else about them.
@zxinfinity would you consider reselling them to me at cost?
@communist Aw man, I was going to ask the same thing :)
@communist @lucidlemur Sure, my cost includes tax. So, add to that however much it costs to ship to you and I'm happy to pass them on. Let me know if that works for either of you. @communist has first dibs tho
@lucidlemur @communist going twice? About to contact support to start the return process...
@zxinfinity return process?
@zxinfinity
I got my pair and they're defective... The right ear cup is much lower than the left. Same results with the cable or connected via bluetooth.
@stryderxx meh.com/support , they usually take a couple business days to get back to you but they will make it right(the meh support staff is 2 people)
@communist That's cool. I'm just bummed that I got a bad pair.
@stryderxx I'm getting the same thing. Mediocre Corp pointed me to House of Marley support but so far they are completely unresponsive. I'm rather unhappy with this purchase so far :(
Anyone having issues with theirs? I only get bt audio out of 1 ear, they work fine via the cable...
@maxdamage I get some crackling and popping sometimes, but it's intermittent and infrequent and the balance seems good.
@maxdamage I'm having the exact same problem. Meh told me to call House of Marley for warranty support. I'll do that when I have a free hour or two!
@maxdamage I figured out that the crackling occurs when I walk under some high voltage powerlines. Doh. So, so far mine have been good.
@maxdamage FYI I called House of Marley today. It was only a 17 minute call. They are supposed to send me a FedEx label, I am to return the phones to them, and within four weeks they will send me a replacement.
@texmeh So now I have to wait over a month to get these headphones... great! This will probably be the last time I ever order something from meh.com
@stryderxx One order in 559 days. That sounds pretty meh. Are you sure you want to leave?
@therealjrn I remember these guys from Woot but this is the first time I tried to order and got burned. What would you do?
@stryderxx I'd leave!
@stryderxx I'd probably do a better flounce, but that's just me. Announced Departures are a fine art.
Still processing for me...
Or deaf. Or both.
@davideidelberg Or paid.
@krystophv To get mine working on my Galaxy S7, I had to fiddle with permissions and make it a "trusted device."
@Dizavid Glad you got yours working! The
Trusted Device
settings seems to have no effect either way for me@krystophv Got mine connected with a Nexus 5 and my laptop (Ubuntu 15.10) via bluetooth.
I can't get the darn things to connect to my bluetooth.
Works as advertised. Bluetooth magic makes sound come out.
Mine just stopped turning on. (the 4 lights light up when I plug it into charge, but the power button doesn’t turn on the battery status LEDs or turn it on when held down. I’ve emailed HOM and we’ll see what the response is.
