Wash Up

What does this thing do?

It cleans vegetables and fruits, apparently! Moreover, it has both wet and dry modes, features “advanced UV/activated oxygen technology removes bacteria by up to 99.9%,” and is “safe and proven effective by 3rd party independent testing.” Sure, cool! It also has settings to sanitize infant toys, bottles, electronics, makeup brushes, and all sorts of other stuff. Apparently!

Will this 45-second video help you understand what this thing does? Questionable. But you will at least see what it looks like. And bonus: OMG, those beats, amirite?!

We did find another video that gives a clearer overview of how it’s supposed to work, showing the UV light combining with the activated oxygen and water spray to better clean your produce. But fair warning, it’s four years old, begins with the phrase “in these uncertain times,” and shows a woman afraid to touch things (such as her mail, but only after she opens her mailbox without hesitation?).

Honestly, though, the best sales pitch we can find is this comment on the last sale from @jmckee:

Yeah, I bought one. I like fruits and vegetables and am also super paranoid about food safety so for $30 not having to deal with my salad spinner would be really nice.

Is this thing really as effective as it claims? Possibly! Also, possibly not. But if it gives some peace of mind, that might be worth 30 bucks. (It’s definitely not worth $350, which is what the company originally tried to sell this thing for. Yikes!)

And we should say, some people really do swear by these things. By which we mean, they’re the top vegetable and fruit washer among vegetable and fruit bands and musicians. We’re talking about such luminaries as:

  • The Endive Matthews Band
  • Lou-ta-Bega
  • Foranger
  • Kohlravi Shankar
  • The Jesus and Berry Chain
  • John Water Meloncamp
  • Nikki Spinaj
  • Cuke Ellington
  • COᴙN
  • Robert Egglant
  • The Peatles

Look, they can’t all be winners, okay?
