Even if you don’t favor war movies (I generally don’t), Full Metal Jacket is a must watch. Not only is it an incredible movie but it’s become part of pop culture. That last scene should sound familiar.

Every time I see Pvt. Pyle’s crazy-face in that scene, it makes me wonder if Kubrik showed him (D’Onofrio) Nicholson’s crazy-faces from The Shining and said, “like this…”

Staple “professional pickup” conversation in bars catering to the 1st world clientele, all over SE Asia, at least from WWII onwards.

Usually said with a wink. The offering party knows it’s a cliche, and often plays the line for laughs.

I knew of one legendary bar near the US base at Subic Bay in the Philippines where, when naval vessels arrived on a first visit to the base, in that bar, the local sex workers sometimes offered 5-sec “free sample BJ’s”. The “offer” was normally made with a some overt humor and teasing.

I don’t tend to watch violent movies anymore – for some stupid reason I made an exception for John Wick 3, WTF was I thinking – but I think FMJ uses it to ‘good ends’, i.e. legitimately to make enlightening statements about people and war.

On a side note, FMJ is two steps removed from FML.
