Bought some last time. They’re alright. Nothing special, but at that price they’re probably worth it.
The fan is basically worthless. It works, but it gets really hot, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it breaks or overheats after more than maybe 10 minutes. Neat novelty, not for serious cooling though (ie, don’t expect a portable long lasting mini-fan).
i bought a bunch of those usb leds you see around. when the power goes out i deploy all the shitty usb power sticks i have collected through deals like this. i can light my whole apartment with them! the fans are nice too if its hot and im trying to sleep.
The problem is that the specs don’t say the output amps so I would assume 1A. At that rate, it would take forever to charge my phone. I don’t buy any of these unless they put out at least 2A.
@Baboodiot depending how elementary, you may want to keep the fans out of the goodie bags. They are wonderful at winding up hair and so close to the power bank that they are hard to escape when those blades start turning. Or on second thought, add a spinning fan blade element to boring games like pin the tail on the donkey, duck duck goose, etc.
@rv617 The trouble is, you need half of them spinning the opposite way, or your chair will end up spinning and you’ll auger in… Oh wait, you’re going for a Darwin award. Sorry, I missed that. You’ll be fine.
So, can I throw these in a bag without them being randomly turned on? because the last crappy power bank I got did just that, so it would never have any power the one time a year I needed it. Basically my only dealbreaker for this item.
@kabijj That is tempting, but really it’s more a question of where the button is, or whether it’s a button or a switch. Bag + contents get jostled around -> button gets pressed -> battery drains. If they are switches I think they’d be more proof against being turned on by accident. if they’re simple press buttons (like mine is) I think I’d just wind up with 20 dead battery packs
@dominusprinceps - Each unit comes with a little zipper case which provides some protection. I suppose the button could still be depressed, but odds are not likely.
@KDemo@dominusprinceps I bought some of these the last time(s) and the little mini duffel does help shield the button, plus the button is flat, smooth, and takes more force to press than some other packs I have with rubbery (snaggy) extended buttons. That would make a great ordering code: rubbery-snaggy-button.
“Model: VBF01H (Let’s go with “Very Best Fans: #01 Happy”)”
That would be me.
I love these things. I had a horrible experience with Woot finding some that worked (only one did with not much of a breeze); Meh found some that did (stronger breeze and in different colors to boot). I like how the power banks can be used as a stand and also have a built in flashlight. But honestly, I got them for the fans so I can use them with a better portable charger … like the PowerNow 10,000 pack I got when I joined the site 2 1/2 years ago. Perfect for hurricane situations and [too damn hot] weather in Florida.
In for one order of each color.
/image cheerful-actually-bourbon
@RedOak - Thanks, yeah. I switched to my phone and got things ironed out, but now it says VMP since 1/17 when it’s really been years. Don’t suppose it really matters since VMP still allows sign-ups.
@warpedrotors would these be liable to turn on if they were loose in a bag? My current emergency battery has a very prominent button, so on the rare occasion that I need to use it, it is invariably dead. Can I throw this in a backpack and assume that my pens / chargers / controllers won’t turn it on and drain the battery?
@dominusprinceps It would be kind of hard for it to turn on by itself, but I guess not impossible. The button edge is flush with the case and it dips a tiny bit. Mine came with a little bag, so I keep it in the plastic sleeve, put it in the bag, and I’ve not had that problem.
I guess resistance is futile at this price. Bought another family of them.
That and since this VMP thingy is ending - better get the “free” shipping out of my system.
As I think someone above mentioned, even if you don’t think these are much use for charging phones, they do a nice job powering these flexy LED lights (really cheap on FleaBay) - really handy for camping or localized lighting where you don’t want to bother others:
My son is a fanatic for these things. He kind of takes them apart though, so it’s good that they keep going on sale and we can restock and he has more toys to play with.
He tends to kill the power bricks though, I think he just runs them until they’re so low that it’s tough to recharge them, then he’s too impatient to let them recharge.
In for six. Lots of people at the vet clinic, early Christmas shopping makes it affordable. And hey, three bucks each? You can’t beat that with a stick.
@lisaviolet As a former employee of a handful of vet clinics (RVT who now works FT at a laboratory) I can verify that most people in the field would enjoy these. I gave them as Christmas gifts last month, no complaints.
trolley motor-ish. Can I use this as back up power for my phone to view the cameras looking at the pad lock I didn’t order… it is all coming together with the light bar I didnt buy. Hmm, I am seeing a pattern with the recent products being sold. Meh is turning it up! Better than that other daily deal website.
@PlacidPenguin i’m not sure i know how to do that, haven’t wooted in years. i am on the discord channel (sometimes) or you can email me at my meh user name at gee male dot comma, that’s mymehusername
I’ve been using one of these 10 buck gadgets for years - very handy way to compare USB cables - everybody with more than 5 cables should have one: (There are fancier models if that floats your boat.)
So our next batch of these arrived today, a week post ordering, as per usual.
Cool detail I didn’t notice with the other colors before gifting them - lime green set has matching color propeller and posts rather than the plain white of the others.

Again?
@meh770 LOL. My thought exactly.
I could power my car with all the batteries meh has sold.
@ELUNO actually you could power two Teslas - don’t those battery packs have about 5,000 18650 cells each?
@RedOak If you buy the Tesla’s I’ll buy enough fan/battery packs.
@growyoungagain then I wouldn’t need you - the Teslas come preloaded with 18650’s!
@RedOak Have tesla, willing to experiment.
@RedOak Isn’t one of Tesla’s slogans “buy two and give the other away”? They’ve got a 5 billion dollar plant to pay off.
This blows!
20 of 'em??
Why… that’s close to A/C power, innit?
:You guys must have a back room full of these things. Total crap.
@guavablueses guess we will see them in a fuko
Banking in a great deal tonight!
Where are the knives?
At least purple?
Christmas 2017! Done!
@melliott Early shopper are ya

It’s Méhjà vu all over again.
Are others having trouble ordering?
"OOPS. WE HAD A PROBLEM PLACING YOUR ORDER."
No clue what the problem is, though.
@KDemo They already sold 108 so I’d say not everyone is having trouble.
@cengland0 - Thanks.
My credit card expires in Feb, so I updated it but the change won’t register.
Frustrated.
@KDemo i would offer to order for you, but already maxed out, so sorry
The problem is that the specs don’t say the output amps so I would assume 1A. At that rate, it would take forever to charge my phone. I don’t buy any of these unless they put out at least 2A.
@cengland0 and then?
Welp, I felt the need to buy something this month for the vmp free shipping. This is what I get for waiting until the last day. Ordered a pair.
The idea of absolute power is intriguing, but then again I’m not a big fan.
20 elementary school kid birthday party favors = done! ;-p
@Baboodiot depending how elementary, you may want to keep the fans out of the goodie bags. I feel like you should have Dr Forrester and Frank introduce these next time.
@walarney push the meh button, Frank
If the power bank is on, the fan is just the right length to bite the hand that plugs it.
@kabijj ummm, is this a reference to ‘bite the hand that feeds it’?
@Yoda_Daenerys what do you think?!?
I’m buying 20 of these, strapping them to a lawn chair and finally getting a Darwin Award!
@rv617 make sure you get video
@rv617 The trouble is, you need half of them spinning the opposite way, or your chair will end up spinning and you’ll auger in… Oh wait, you’re going for a Darwin award. Sorry, I missed that. You’ll be fine.
@rv617 Or somewhere between a Darwin or a Darwon’t Award.
One for every occasion …

@dominusprinceps buy 10 pair and play the odds

Button is on side and indented a little

Assuming it’s a single 18650 in there. Anyone crack them open to check make/model?
@thechinglish i didnt open them, but at 1 amp they only have about 500ma, so i assume they have the absolute shittiest 18650 cell money can buy
@jihiggs Probably reclaimed cells from the shittiest battery packs that money could buy that failed.
@thechinglish If these are the same as the ones from before, they’re 2600mAh.
aww fugget, give me all i can buy…

@KDemo Sorry, the

command is currently only available to VMP members. Become a VMP.@mediocrebot - Now VMP is cancelled? WTF?
@KDemo naw, i think it is an erroneous error message, try again bunky
you still have the flaming V by your name(user)
@KDemo you could also just be a little more persistent to figure out the correct syntax, just sayin’…
@Yoda_Daenerys @KDemo I saw it - no “V” next to @KDemo’s name… And then it was back.
@RedOak - Thanks, yeah. I switched to my phone and got things ironed out, but now it says VMP since 1/17 when it’s really been years. Don’t suppose it really matters since VMP still allows sign-ups.
I bought these twice before. I guess you could say I’m a fan.
@warpedrotors would these be liable to turn on if they were loose in a bag? My current emergency battery has a very prominent button, so on the rare occasion that I need to use it, it is invariably dead. For external use only.

@kazriko Have you talked to your son about this ?
I thought it was a vibrator… meh.
Yet another waste of money. The one that did work… didn’t for long. Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice… you are one friggin lucky guy!
Y’know what, for $3 each, I’ll take a meddlesome-octagonal-peach.
Bath?
I used these as stocking stuffers. Hey, they work as fans. I’m not sure how many charges you can get on your phone with one, though.
Oh why not? Good for Teardown Tuesday!
jolliest-sinister-barbarian
@PocketBrain
Sweettooth, how I’ve missed you.
Hey, I bought these like a month ago. Back so soon?
The Mrs. told me these were the dumbest things I ever bought last time they were around. Now i am doubling down. That will show her.
@mdrcoast tell her this is a lot cheaper than therapy.
… that or simply don’t tell her and hide them in the hoard closet.

Bought a full cart. I’ll never have to shovel the driveway again! BWaahahaha
These fans are great. I plug them into the USB ports on my monitors and it’s all cool breeze at my desk. They’re awesome, and get a perfect 5/7.
I’ve been coming to this site daily for awhile now, and have been underwhelmed with the offerings…the comments are entertaining though.
@werekong we try.
I gave these to my Pokemon Go friends for Christmas. Phone charger plus fan for when it gets hot. Gotta catch them all.
I can finally unlock the USB padlock I ordered the other day.
trolley motor-ish. Can I use this as back up power for my phone to view the cameras looking at the pad lock I didn’t order… it is all coming together with the light bar I didnt buy. @kramarrap You should put on a pair of BT headphones while using your sonic toothbrush in front of your IFR heater.
I bought these the last time they were offered on Meh. Nice power pack for your mobile phone and the fans are a bonus!.
Battery dimensions looks wrong.
i’ve had several family members thank me recently for the Meh. battery packs i gave them.
i just bought a truck load more on this deal. i hope i can find people that will appreciate them, because i sure don’t need them.
however, i would like to know why so many of my micro-USB cables suck.
@Yoda_Daenerys
I could get into a whole thing about micro-USB cables, but I won’t here.
I would however suggest buying a meter to check how much power they pull and possibly get rid of the slower ones.
@PlacidPenguin oh, please elaborate, i cud use the learnin’
usb cable meter
has @f00l become @kramarrap?
@Yoda_Daenerys I should have known better…so mean and cruel!

(I think that’s the most I’ve posted of myself on Meh.)
