Idle Snacking
One thing we’ve learned during our (albeit pretty short) stint in the snack-selling business is this: not all snacking is the same.
We talked last week about candy bar cravings and how, when you have one, nothing will satisfy it except a real-deal candy bar. What you crave in that moment is not sustenance or nutrition; it’s indulgence. You want to give yourself over to something that is not just a little sweet, a little chocolatey. You want something overwhelmingly sweet, something with a chocolate shell thick enough you can measure it with a standard ruler.
We’ve also talked many times before about the mid-morning/mid-afternoon snack. This includes granola bars and meat sticks–the kind of things that might not exactly be mouthwatering but will satisfy your tastebuds while providing you with enough good stuff to keep you upright between meals.
But today, we want to talk about another kind of snacking, one of the most enjoyable yet dangerous kinds of snacking: idle snacking.
Idle snacking is what happens when you don’t crave one or two treats. Not “Oh, I could really go for a donut!” Or “Man, I would kill for a cheese stick right now.” Instead, what you desire is a series of isolated nibbles, something you can partake in for a prolonged period. Because idle snacks have a way of satisfying cravings AND erasing time.
The problem? Many idle snacks over-satisfy said craving. They’re greater than the sum of their parts, we mean, and while this might be a good thing for a basketball team, it’s less fun when it applies to something that feels like a whole bunch of nothing going in but then manages to add up to a big old dinner-ruining stomach ache later. We’re talking about things like chips, crackers, pretzels, nuts, popcorn. You can’t have just one, but you can sure have too much in a hurry.
That’s why you need something like Amazi dried jackfruit and plantain snacks. Each little bag contains a totally reasonable amount of calories: 160 for jackfruit or 200 for plantain. Neither option is fried, so you don’t have to worry about a whole bunch of oil. As for the flavor: they’re a little sweet, a little salty, and, in the case of the jackfruit, a little spicy too.
In other words: they’re perfect for satisfying your idle snack craving without turning into a wrecking ball once they get into your gut.
So get some why don’t you?
