Holy shit... That's crazy scary
8Never mind Alexa or Siri stalking you. Now your wifi router can do it.

Worth watching for further information.
Creepy indeed. I was aware of some of the precursor studies, but this adds several elements of Creep.
How appropriate that the upcoming WiFi standard is IEEE 802.11bf.
@mehcuda67
Yep… bend over!
This is some crazy Mission Impossible level shit!
@chienfou @mehcuda67 I used to tell people that everything you see in “Enemy of the State” is possible, but you need at least 5 spooks to track one person, so most people are safe. Thanks to IoT(racking) + AI, that is no longer the case.
The future is NOW, so I am off to file a minority report.
So what you’re saying is to wear a hat?

@narfcake That’s too easy. Meh needs to exploit this paranoia by selling some snake-tronics …
/showme Virus infested network routers being scared off by human wearing tin hat with signal jamming antenna. Sign behind human says “How much would you pay to be safe from network router trackers?”.

@mediocrebot I approve. He has an almost Bruce Campbell look to him.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot Signal Freedom!
I recently had to change my router and installed an ax4400. It’s nice cuz it uses easy mesh so I set up a second one in the back half of the yard in the shop.
Unfortunately since I can’t dedicate a strictly 2.4 GHz beam to my Roku Express I had issues with it not wanting to work very well. Had a bunch of lag etc as it was having trouble trying to connect apparently. I resolved it by setting up an old ac1500 router that I attached to one of the lan ports on my main router (which is in the same room). I dedicated that 2.4 GHz channel to just the Roku and my Blu-ray player. The 5 Ghz channel is going to be basically unused. I named the SSID for that “CIA mobile van 23”. It’ll give people pause when they scan for my guest network when they come to visit!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chienfou that it uses me in a sick sort of way. I dread at some point having to change out my router. They wanted to change it out about a year ago but the moron who works for Frontier couldn’t figure out how my TV was sent into the router because it’s hardwired. All the new ones are wireless and I like my TV being wired because when the router decides it wants to think about it the TV doesn’t stop running
@Cerridwyn
yeah, my prior Roku was wired (we use a projector instead of a TV.) When it bit the dust we had to get a different one and this one is wireless only. A bit of a PITA.
/showme @mediocrebot using WIFI signals to track every member of meh and utilize the WIFI information to subliminally convince everyone to make purchases of items they don’t really need or want.

@mediocrebot HOLY MOLY!!
@mediocrebot is really tracking us!!
@mediocrebot @MrGoodGuy I think it’s just bluster. Meh can only wish to be that good at tracking us. I think we are safe … for now.
/showme mediocrebot using primitive paper map and pushpins to track meh customers. Other mediocrebots are using vintage typewriters in background to write reports on the buying habits of specific customers.

@cfg83 @mediocrebot @MrGoodGuy I think Curmudgeons are being underrepresented in that first graphic.
@mediocrebot @mehcuda67 @MrGoodGuy Hmmm …

@mediocrebot Mehrathon business model.
Researchers have written about tracking people using WiFi as radar since the late ‘90s. The only new bit here is adding “AI” to the mix.
@mwarren
While it has been posited that this was a possibility, I think this is the first demonstration of it’s actual application using common Wi-Fi routers and not special equipment.
