I know we have e-mail notifications, but how about a notification on the forum menu bar (like on Facebook, AKA a red number) letting us know if someone replied to our boring post and/or reply or if someone favorited your post/reply.
Would love to not only be able to have the default set to most recent on the threads but would love the option to sort by most recent within a thread as well because I want to see every last word everyone says.
What if I accidentally meh-ed something? Any plans to be able to un-meh the daily product? For example, if the witty description of it eventually wins me over or something.
@harrison, ok that takes me to the latest as you said. Meh. Way better than having to scroll, but not as good as sort=unread (which apparently doesn't exist).
Is it possible to get some sort of bouncy thing or meter or something when close to selling out? Or does that exist and I missed it for the helicopter?
Can the search function start working on usernames as well? I'd like to find all the comments made by someone. Or hell, all the comments I made really.
Something I just noticed. The comments counter at the top of the thread (and under the topic on the main forum page) only counts the number of first-level comments. It doesn't count the replies to the comments. Seems like a bug to me.
-Mobile bug: When moving from horizontal to vertical orientation the screen doesn't re-size properly (Android). -Also, I love the gray bars identifying new comments, but it would be helpful if there were markers in the scroll bar showing where there are on the page. Useless for mobile, but helpful on 'puter. -I'm a vote against email notifications. The my order page is fine, screenshots work as receipts, and my credit card statement tells me if you took my money. I like that most of the Meh team's time is spent improving the forum.
ya email notifications are crap.. part of my job is making sure email notifications go out for receipts and what not and it's a bitch....besides majority delete, spam, or don't even open it.
@patti Yep, you can click on the 'replied a minute ago' link under a topic name from the main forum page or click on the + sign in the circle at the top right of the page when you are within a given thread to jump to the bottom of the page. Hope that helps!
A page where I can find my comments with links to those threads would also be helpful. I find myself leaving comments, then it's impossible to track them down again to see if anyone replied without using an @.
@Kidsandliz The badges are for being a kickstarter, being a Mediocre employee, the ocoptus squidgee, A VMP (when you bought that badge, if you'd paid the $5 for the month of free shipping), or the ScapeGoat. There might be others, but those are the main ones. Too late to earn a K, but you can get a VMP...or apply for a job...or try to be @marklog although he might not appreciate it.
Sometimes when I post a url to an image the image shows up and sometimes it doesn't and I don't know why. Granted, this could be my problem, but I still want you to fix it.
@mehcus this works if there is only one or a few unreads, however I find myself having to still scroll all the way up in the event that the topic has unreads all over. can the unread link go to the first unread?
I think the account icon at the top should really be the order page. Also, once an order has has tracking updated, that icon should have an alert or something to show the update.
You could have four different icons, one for order placed, order processed, order shipped, and one that shows nothing new happened since last time.
I think that would help quell the email confirmation conversation.
Eventually there will be a way to get to orders from that top icon. Just haven't gotten to that yet. Alerts and notifications are not currently planned.
Shipping related enhancements/streamlining/cost saving/(your favorite buzz word)
1) I ordered the same product twice. But different order numbers. I got two different packages and two different tracking numbers. I know you're meh and all, but you could probably save money on shipping if your back-end system knew to combine orders going to the same address.
2) Orders placed over the weekend (anything ordered Fri-Sun) should be combined into a single shipment. Ex, if I order Friday's item and Sunday's item, they should be put into a single package.
Any way to paginate a thread? The Fukubukuro: Kickstart is getting lengthy and has a lot of pictures posted. On a refresh it is taking a while to load all of the pics and jumps around a lot. Would pagination help this by splitting up some of the pics?
I like how you are enhancing the forums. BUT, if I'm going to be selfish, is there somewhere where you are logging what hancements (en- or de-) you are putting in? Like a changelog. And if I dare be so bold, maybe a "things we are planning" list as well.
@marklog on second thought, the backlog is more appropriate to be referred to as the @marklog, because it is all the crap they haven't fixed or implemented yet.
Customize colors - white on white on white on top of and behind white with white plush a dash of black for light grey accents ... just dont do it for everyone.
Let us choose our colors please, i'll even give you a hand full of loose change in order to do so.
More of a question than a request, but can you flask people see that I'm starring my own posts? If so, don't judge me. I'm fragile. Like, I'm going to immediately star this after posting. Stuart Smiley would be proud.
For those of us who pop into the forums sporadically and unpredictably all day and night, it would be suhweet to have a little indicator on the main forum page that said "You've seen everything below here already."
You could use those cookies everyone's always talking about, I bet.
@marklog It Just Did To Mine! Added @Marklog That Is... Also I Hate This Phone. Capitalizing The First Letter Of Each Word. Curse You Google, Curse You @marklog
@bluedyn The colour of the @names are based on your clicked status of the link. If you have visited that person's comments page, it will be grey. If not, it will be blue.
@curtise I see that now. But really all it does is show threads they created. Which isn't exactly handy, but I suppose it suggests you might be stalking someone.
@bluedyn They're gray if you've clicked on them, it's just like a purple link. The emails should be working properly, just make sure you have the notifications turned on in your profile
@JonT I did have that clicked, but I suspect they're just taking their time getting through the internet tubes. I've usually spotted the reply before the email arrives.
Cool feature, but I have one tiny little niggle. When you click reply, the cursor is at the start of the textbox instead of at the end. So when you start typing, you have to either click after the @xxx or hit the [END] button. Kind of annoying.
@JonT I often accidentally click the person's name instead of the comment at the start of a thread to get to the most recent post. Then I get confused as to why the screen is blank and "wait for it to load". I usually whistle the Jeopardy tune a few times before I realize what I have done. There isn't much delineation between clicking on the name and the comment. I don't know what the answer is. I'm just tired of it tricking me into thinking the page is loading or that something is wrong. I'm not very good at whistling either, so there's that. Am I the only one who does that ? Is it me or you ? Oh I know, it's @marklog. TL;DR The grey names are @marklog's fault.
Yay! My Firefox reply issue has been fix0red. Cursor now appears at the end of the textbox. I am flattered that a developer wasted a few brain cells to make it so I don't have to constatntly remember to click or hit [END] before @ replying :D
If you are in the middle of filling out the purchase form, it needs to blow up into little pieces that shoot off the edges of the screen right on the dot of midnight. Then a page needs to appear that say (written and with sound) wah wah wah you lose you looser… or some such appropriately snarky phrase - perhaps have a thread for the best snark
Make the forums searchable by @marklog and anything else we might want to enter into it. Don't want to have to wait for the web creepy crawlers to make it google searchable...
@Thumperchick well yah know just because the icon is on the top of every forum page you don't actually expect me to notice it and click on it to see what it is, do you?
@Thumperchick The search never works for me. I invariably get :( Are you just testing the search function to see if it works? There are clearly no results for ‘fingered’
I agree with Moose. That is what I was asking for. I wasted about 10 perfectly good minutes of my time yesterday skimming topics (and using find my browser's find on this page function) to find a comment I wanted to save.
@Kidsandliz Use Chrome. Then, 1. Right click omnibox, select edit search engines 2. Add Search engine 3. Name the search whatever you want (i used 'Current Site') 4. Put in the keyword you want (i used 'cs') 5. paste this into the url: javascript:void(location.href='http://www.google.com/search?q=%s&domains='+location.hostname+'&sitesearch='+location.hostname) When you are on a site that you want to search, (and using the keyword i chose) simply type "cs search term" into the omnibox. and there you go! (stolen from googling)
@Mavyn Holy Crap. I have to actually think and do something to solve this problem??? And do something complicated? Meh on that! And Meh (actually worse than Meh - what is worse then Meh?) to Meh if they don't solve it. LOL Actually thanks for telling me how to do a work around that should take less time than what I was doing. Blech that I have to use chrome though because as a matter of principle I try not to let the folks who own that get any more information than they can about me, my searches, sites I visit, etc.
@Ignorant - I understand the urge to separate, but right now I'm curious to see how this will work out. If we end up being a badly translated hodgepodge community that develops a new forum culture, or something.
@Ignorant I like the mix. BUT I think it would be nice if the new translator, @nathanK would translate all the Korean comments so we could all understand. Even if it's just a shipping comment. I can't write a snarky reply if I don't understand it.
i'm learning Korean. slowly. i started a couple years ago because i was watching k-dramas, but i never get very far before i forget to practice for a few months and forget everything i learned. i'm hoping the Korean posts will keep me inspired though.
How about a sign-out link at the top of the page, rather than having to click the profile icon first? Not that I would really want to sign-out or anything, but somebody might.
@heartny I'm upset in the past week I've had to login twice on my phone and once on the computer......looks like they've been letting all the smoke out of the servers again.
@JonT is this payback for my 9001 on entanglement? or instructions on how to get a perfect score on the movie game? or instructions on how to skip to the last level on game about squares?
Please check your drawers, you socks and inside the roomba... Your old forum topics have been misplaced!!! I just went to scroll through all the forum topics and discovered that they stop at last Saturday. Are you not archiving them? Are the old ones parked elsewhere? Were they kidnapped? Since I just want to browse (not do a search) how do I get to them? Please BRING THEM BACK.
@Kidsandliz: I spent an hour earlier this evening going through my computer's entire history looking for the topic about the geography game. Which turned out to have been in late July.
@Kidsandliz They said that they kind of want older threads to fade out, so that the conversation keeps evolving. That's not exactly what they said, but that's the gist of it.
@Thumperchick It'd be nice if old threads were searchable at least. Otherwise people will have to keep answering the same questions about shipping to Canada every other week.
@Thumperchick Too bad… Bet I didn't know that because I couldn't find the older threads...But so many of them are funny and I wanted to go read them for the entertainment value...
Perhaps another pinned sub-category? "Oldies" but goodies staff selected good reading but closed topics. I do not like when ancient history stuff is made new by someone commenting. If too cluttery, maybe a secret incrowd access?
Meh-ducation sub-category (At the forum home-page there is All, Deals, Polls, Videos)
This would be a good place to "pin" the Shipping forwarder topics, FAQ, Meh Style Guide.
Also, it seems as though some people struggle with uploading pictures. Someone could write a tutorial for that so we don't have to read so many words during these unboxings.
"Embeds Image and gif embeds work when you paste in the image url directly, no forum code needed. If it ends in .jpg, .png, .gif, it’ll automatically embed. Unless it's from some weird site, in which case you should just upload it to imgur.
https://i.imgur.com/ bgwwQ1T.gif That’s the url I pasted in that automagically makes the gif appear. I added a space so you can actually see it."
@Ignorant I don't think that is the issue, I think the issue might be how to upload it (and @JonT includes a wikihow link for that) as well as they may not know how to get it off of a mobile phone or something. The point was to have a central repository for posts like the Style Guide or Shipping Forwarders
My orders now show my address with the word 'null' on the end of it. Presumably because I didn't pick St, Rd, Blvd, Ave, etc (though etc is not a proper address suffix). It looks stupid.
@SSteve@snapster You guys are worried about pixies when there are more important things to be concerned about--such as, "Why does ice cream melt so fast when the temperature is 100 degrees?"
@Ryaneil I believe it already does this, but I'm looking into it. An email won't be sent out if you view the topic before the email would be sent (15 minutes after posting).
@katylava When this site becomes so popular that people are making up usernames, this distinction may become important. @zacatac and @ZaCaTaC might be very different people.
@katylava I was feeling left out as a used up goat with no responses to anything and found out that this was indeed not working. People were responding just without my capital R.
Are there any hopes of getting the forum topic responses split in to pages? Maybe like 30 responses on a page? I am sure this was already asked, but I didn't want to scroll through 300 responses at once to see.
@zacatac there are hopes of finding a way to make it easier to get to unread stuff, but pagination may not be the solution (it comes with it's own problems).
@katylava I vote for a "Go to next unread reply" floating button option. Since the software knows which replies are unread, it shouldn't be too difficult to make this work.
I just realized that clicking on the old Meh faces takes you to the page for whatever sold that day. I don't know how long it's been that way, but thank you!
So I just got an email letting me know that @JonT had replied to my comment in the Net Neutrality thread. The email included his comment but didn't indicate a GIF was included. I don't want to see the GIF in the email (that would be a huge spoiler and it's way better to see it in context) but it would be nice to throw in a little [animated response] or something in the email so I know it's worth clicking.
@editorkid I'm pretty sure I've gotten gifs directly in my email when the notification comes. Maybe it's your email client/app settings? Look for an option to download pictures automatically when meh is the sendor.
@editorkid Yeah, definitely check your settings. I get the gifs in the email. They appear as little image icons (in gmail) before they're downloaded. So, in theory you could leave it off and know that there's a gif waiting for you (but not spoiled).
@Felyne If you set the timezone on your computer to the U.K., that will set the clock ahead. This will make it midnight earlier, letting you see the day's Meh before midnight EST.
I really like having the title of the thread in bold if it contains an update I have not yet seen. But, there doesn't seem to be a preceptable difference between bold and unbold on Korean titled threads...
Is there any way to add an option for not displaying gifs? We have minimal internet speed (has recently improved to almost 2 mbps), so if I try to open a topic that has a multitude of gifs it's not only a slow, painful process, but I catch hell from anyone else in the house that is trying to use the internet. Being able to skip gifs would make it possible to follow topic comments without serious impact to my time or household harmony.
@dashcloud That's what I thought, too. My browser is Chromium, and I've tried 3 or 4 extensions that sound promising but do absolutely nothing. The latest was GifJam which has high ratings, and I note in the comments that it clashes with AdBlock so that may be my issue with that extension.
@medz Thanks for the tip! I've been frustrated by the little dots too. Turns out that on my tablet one tap of the picture enlarges it, and a second tap moves it to the next picture.
@medz if the width is greater than 575 pixels on a phone in landscape view, this takes it out of "mobile" mode for the site and returns you to regular browsing. At around 687 pixels, it seems that it starts to lose the Star itself.
This might have been said already, but there HAS to be a better way of indicating 1 option of something is sold out other than just not being able to click it.
For example, today I wanted to buy a queen sized mattress, which appeared to be in stock because it was listed just like the others, but could not select it. I thought something was wrong with my phone so I got on the computer and the same thing.
At least if an option sells out it should turn gray or something.
It's very hard to edit a reply on an iPad (and I assume on other mobile devices, but the iPad is the only one I've tried). When the reply extends beyond the extents of the text window, trying to scroll to the right with autoscroll is an exercise in frustration. And I hate exercise.
@marklog That is a great idea! I wouldn't think it'd be too hard to make it so that @goat notifications forward to the email of the current goat of the month.
I actually grabbed the username goat a while back just for this (since the Mediocre team apparently doesn't think of these things cough). So that the Meh team can verify, it's registered under the email address b---nr--en--oo- at gmail and if someone there sends an email to the address that represents, I'll happily reply to confirm further. At that point it oughtta be easy for the Meh Squad to figure out how to do that.
When an item sells out, the percentage of people who didn't bite keeps growing. So today, when the fukubukuro sold out the number of people who didn't buy one was probably 50%, but by now it's 97%. Most of those never had the chance to "bite" so it doesn't really reflect the popularity of the product or decision-making of visitors.
You could have the percentage stop growing or something once the product sells out.
Is there a way to make the Google tracking search work all the time? Right now I'm getting "Your search - 6129999824**** - did not match any documents." for everything. I don't check it much but I'd guess I get that about 2/3 of the time I look.
@editorkid I would suggest going directly to FedEx's site to check the tracking, or you an use something like PackageTrackr. Maybe we could update that link to not be a google search.
@JonT Well, that's the thing -- sometimes the tracking numbers themselves are right on the My Orders page and it works fine, and sometimes they're wrong and it doesn't. They're either all right or all wrong. And if it isn't working in the link, it isn't going to work when I paste it into FedEx's site.
I feel like this has been mentioned before, but oh well, I'm gonna bitch about it anyway. I can't stand when I reply to a comment and it then clears out my "unread" replies/comments. It's very frustrating to scroll down a large thread, reply to a comment, and then completely lose track of what has/hasn't been read. Can you turn on page caching so that I can at least hit the back button and see what the thread looked like before I replied? Pretty please? :)
@Thumperchick But what if there are multiple things I want to reply to? Of course I can read the whole thread and then decide to reply, but you know as well as I do that long threads have multiple side conversations going at once. I think it might be your fault!
I see that a date has been added to the VMP badge (when you hover over it). Looks like I've been a VMP since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z. Funny, I wasn't even born yet ;)
This one's hopefully not going to be that common... I just tried my phone (Nexus 5, KitKat) to track the correct headset, but the mobile portrait layout only has enough room to show one tracking number. Both show up fine with landscape.
I like the change to the Faceless Head icon. Nice dropdown menu and it works perfectly on both a recent-but-not-latest Firefox, the latest Safari on Yosemite, and the latest Chrome on Lollipop. I'll admit the VMP menu item seems kinda redundant for us VMPs, since it brings us to the pre-signup page, but small thing.
@editorkid Yeah, the VMP link should take you to something that lets you manage your VMP. Sign up, cancel, change credit card info. Sending it to the infographic is just going to annoy people who want to cancel; then they'll come into the forums and bitch.
Well - love the site but feel WestCoast is at a disadvantage. Anything that I liked was already sold out before 3am PST time.. which means that even if I set an alarm at 5am PST, I would not get it. Can a percentage of items be kept for different coast users only... maybe 25% at least. So if by say 9amPST they dont sell out.. open it for all...
@kkarkera You feel the West Coast is at a disadvantage? Pfft. Try living on the East Coast where the sales change over at midnight! Especially when the alarm is set every day for 5:20.
@kkarkera I think the consensus is that west coast has the biggest advantage, they can go on at 9 PM PST, which isn't unreasonable for people who have work the next morning to check at. On the other side of the country, the east coasters have to check at midnight, if you get up for work around 6 AM, you would have to be checking at midnight, then going to sleep (assuming no server issues) with 6 hours to sleep. Edit: @Cinoclav beat me to repping the east coast
@TaRDy I feel stupid. You are right.. did not see that it is changes at 9pm.. so it is defnitely better for WestCoast.. now I feel bad for other coasts!!
Hows about a floating "back to top" icon in the lower left or right corner of the thread for those of us who don't like to take our hands off of the mouse? The back button isn't always useful if you reply to a thread and then click it. I like to click the "/FORUM" link at the top after reading a thread.
I would maybe suggest a tiny bit more actual information in the product descriptions. Sure, I love the descriptions, and read them all, even when its clearly something I'm not going to buy, but I think if you guys are going to pop an item out of the package to photograph it, maybe play with it a little and let us know how it works? For example with the batteries today ("oh it charged our Iphone/Samsung 9 to 75% from 0% in 4 hours before dying), or the Blender ("it made margheritas no problem, and once the office got drunk and started blending the stale donuts left over from this morning, it still ran strong!). I know the stuff is so cheap I shouldn't care, (but I still care.)
On the meh Orders pages, please add a link to the related write-up for the ordered item. I almost always have to end up either googling meh + the item, or using the site's' inline search feature, and I'd rather just click.
@SirLouie I agree, it drives me crazy. I used to be able to just click the corresponding meh face (they link to their date's sale) but now the previous months calendars are gone, too.
@SirLouie@Thumperchick Great idea. In the meantime, you can do this in two clicks. Click the "Discuss my rad purchase" button, and then once the forum topic loads, click the picture of the item. That will take you to the original deal page.
So sorry to drag this thread back to the top but I think I had an awesome idea, it would be perfect for the black friday through cyber monday, i doubt it will happen this close to that weekend but maybe over another weekend. basicly the community spends the weekend completing tasks that generate Entries for a drawing have several things that are drawn for some good some meh. to keep things favoring the existing community give extra entries for Kickstarter, extra for VMP (or extra tasks for VMP) and to make the former Goats happy extra for them too (they earned them) this would be fun and interactive I know the weekends can be rough but if you go for fun if could work.
Is there any way to blow up the sales map? Yes, you can click on individual states, but if your state is, oh, say, California, the result still isn't big enough to pick out some of the counties.
@SIMBM This is one instance where viewing the site on a phone or tablet is an advantage. Once you click on a state, you can pinch-zoom to blow it up. I can see my little California county just fine on the iPhone and iPad.
@shawn It used to be difficult to edit replies in Mobile Safari, but now it's impossible. Autoscrolling doesn't happen at all. Is it like this on all mobile browsers?
Our user "@" page, e.g. @SirLouie">https://meh.com/@SirLouie, only shows threads that we have started. I'd love for it to (also) show threads we've commented on with links to our comments in the thread. It would make checking for un-tagged replies much easier.
Second to that, I'd love to see posts or replies which we have starred (or even threads containing such comments).
First time I came to the page, hover to zoom worked with no click. Upon going to the forum and then back to meh.com, had to click on the picture to get the photo zoomer working. Using most updated chrome with most updated windows 7
How about a way to close out the order confirmation window? I don't want an email nor do I want to review my order. Impulse buy means just give it to me and stop questioning me!
Or is there some other way to close that pop up without clicking the two visible options?
@Cinoclav We did this when we launched, but once we got big enough, it apparently killed the database, and some stupid jerk said it was more important for people to be able to buy things.
@dave Hmm, must have been before I discovered the site (stupid me). Now that the cold cash is trickling in, it's time to upgrade the systems and bring back this feature!
@dave I am curious what kind of database that you are/were using for that. Have you looked at something like Neo4J? Seems like it was made for that sort of data.
@dave@bruceoite I seem to remember them saying Node.js/Express with MongoDB. But they use different frameworks/DBs for different things, so I might not be correct about that.
@bruceoite@jsh139@dave not really a database issue, but this feature was one of the things that broke during load testing when we tested thousands of comments and thousands of replies each with thousands of votes. i'll look at bringing it back. i suspect it will be fine at the current voting levels.
@shawn Cool. I am always curious how different places set up this type of stuff. Last place I worked created an intranet that worked similar to Facebook and they used Neo4J to handle all of the likes and shares. Worked pretty well, but that was with a potential user base of 15K, which really only 20% used.
@JonT Maybe this has been mentioned but an Ignore button would be nice. like a little message on posts from that user saying you've ignored them but would to like to see anyway. oh and a way to track how many people are ignoring particular users and ones with high rates of ignores get probation or something. Does that even Exist or maybe I'm just asking too much
@Foxborn /\ /\ /\ This please! I'm getting pretty tired of seeing posts from the resident curmudgeon, bitching and moaning about VMP, items for sale, etc.
@Foxborn an interesting idea, but I'm not quite sure about the implementation and ideally no one person would be continually annoying enough to warrant this feature...but that's 'ideally'.
Well here's one that would have helped me out greatly during the recent Fuku and Meh Exchange... Is there a way to PM a person? I needed to send my mailing address to another member, and short of putting my "here's my real life email address with easy obfuscation so the bots won't grab it", I couldn't figure out how to privately talk with another member. I didn't see this in a quick review of this thread, so I'll hang my head in shame if it was already requested.
@Pamtha we've purposefully stayed away from private messages because they tend to cause more trouble than good (think user harassment/trolling/spamming abilities). There might be some middle ground to find, like sending a request to send a PM that you need to approve, but it's tricky to get right.
@JonT I don't think trolling/spamming is really a necessary concern. In the 8 years I've been on woot I've never received an unwanted PM and I don't see why it would be any worse here. And if someone wants to troll for the most part @ tagging someone can already accomplish the thing, arguably worse since you get an email. Have the messaging feature require you to opt in, just like getting emailed when @ mentioned. You can add a block feature or make it so you have to have an account for a week or something before you are allowed to PM to stop people from making new accounts to troll/spam from. I feel the benefits of a private message feature far outweigh the possible concerns.
@metaphore Agreed. I recently made a trade that the other party basically had to post their email address in the forum to make it happen. With the right (simple) precautions it should be fine. And a great feature. Make it opt in.
@Pamtha@JonT@Headly@metaphore I also recently also made a trade and awarded a fuku in a content - and had to post an email address to communicate with the members, however, in both instances, anyone following the forum posts could have hijacked the entire thing . . . We need a way to communicate privately between members with verification.
Here's kind of a weird request. People who are frequent VBulletin users might have noticed that you can use [ALT]+S to submit a reply. Any way to map [ALT]+S to the "Say it." button? It uses the Chrome Access key (ui.key.chromeaccess in Firefox).
For extra credit, [ALT]+T maps to the "Save" button when editing a reply. Maybe you could map that to the "Save it" button ;)
Could we get a way to view/edit shipping and billing info besides in the purchase window? As far as I can find the only way to view your shipping info is buy pulling up the "Buy It" window and the only way to save changes is to make a purchase. If the day's item is sold out you can't see what shipping/billing info is set and if you are expecting the next day's item to be something you want that may sell out fast it would be useful to be able to check/change what you have before the item come up for sale.
@metaphore we're working on some better account page options like the ones you mentioned but they may not come for a little while. Thanks for the feedback!
@Ignorant Doesn't work for me, but I don't have the latest OS on either device so can't say for sure that it wouldn't work for others. Thanks again for trying to help!
I am too lazy to look through 400+ ideas so forgive me if this was covered, but there needs to be a way to get from the Meh forum to the mediocre forum. This particularly is important when trying to find the cool mediocre VMP perk orders.
A way to expand and collapse replies would be nice. So when one post gets crazy popular and takes up a ton of meh page, I can collapse it to simplify reading.
Also, a Meh chat room, this could also solve the issue of 2 people having a conversation via forums and cluttering it.
@ELUNO Oh man, replying to a post from almost 2 1/2 years ago! Since you asked, Life is good. Way busier than I used to be which has its advantages and disadvantages…
@shawn, wouldn't it be cool if topic creators had light moderating capability? eh, probably only in some very limited cases. Interested to hear your thoughts.
@dashcloud it's a good question, and the Business Analyst in me should have answered it in my original post. I'm not quite sure. I'm just causing problems over here.
Necro-bump here. Looks like the hover-over picture zoom isn’t working on the homepage. I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 10. It’s not working in FF or Chrome. I don’t see any errors in the JS console. Any ideas what might be the cause?
@crow thousand stars (although I don’t seem to get the find all the street signs, find waldo, etc. as often as I used to - which was like Every. Single. Time. - instead just check the box)
I’d like to be able to privately pin a post. I just did a search and it didn’t come up. Clearly the google bot doesn’t catch every meh post. In one of the 5 billion fuko threads this month (April) someone said they wanted my ninja cup and I can not find the post again to tell them that the first person didn’t respond so that it is their’s. Would have loved to have pinned either that thread or that post so that I could find it again. I am not going through all 55 (or whatever it was fuko threads nor the, it seems like, 55 billion additional threads. Just wasted a bunch of time looking and using search and I give up.
@Kidsandliz Next time, click the timestamp next to the post you want to save and that will open a url that goes directly to that post. Add that link to your bookmarks/favorites in your browser for future reference.
"kibble their bits" hehehehehe....
search function: only topic? will search be expanded into the body of message as well, or am i doing it wrong?
Yep, this one's pretty likely. Not sure when, but eventually.
I know we have e-mail notifications, but how about a notification on the forum menu bar (like on Facebook, AKA a red number) letting us know if someone replied to our boring post and/or reply or if someone favorited your post/reply.
OVER NOTIFCATION
I like it, It would be nice to have some notifications. Maybe just a running star tally rather than a notification, something like reddit.
@BillLehecka Agreed, I am sure there are replies that I never see, because I didn't want my inbox jammed up with meh post alerts.
Would love to not only be able to have the default set to most recent on the threads but would love the option to sort by most recent within a thread as well because I want to see every last word everyone says.
@ patti I concur, it might also take a load of the server as I click to the forum, wait…. then sort it and wait again
Yes. I like it so much better when the most recent comment pops the thread to the top of the forum. I miss too much this way.
@Ryaneil Why are you complaining ? It's your fault it doesn't work the way we want it.
@ceagee true it's my fault, but that's never stopped me from complaining
Reply to a reply? If someone replies to post, you can't reply to that reply. Intentional? Confusing?
I was just about to post asking this! While I don't want it to go cascading like Reddit, being able to reply to a reply would be nice.
Intentional. Because all comments are meh, and don't deserve in-depth discussion.
You can always @ reply someone in the reply to let them know you're replying to their reply.
@JonT, yeah, but...DOH! Why ya gotta make things so hard? edit-you're blue when I replied!
@LaVikinga now you can be blue too!
Ooooh, I like getting a heads up "you've been mentioned" email. Bravo zulu!
@JonT It's really just a matter of convenience. When the replies get really long it's a pain to scroll up and hit reply.
@JonT Did someone say blue?
If you reply to the main comment, it will appear in line with the other replies. Too much nesting just gets ugly.
Absolutely agreed! Too much nesting is ugly:
what's a VIP?
google "woot zune vip sale" woot had VIP "hidden" sales emailed to people based on certain criteria as past purchases or whatnot.
google VMP.
When replying, allow more characters. Sometimes two lines is not enough.
If that's the case you should just expand out to a full comment and use @ to let the person know you're talkin' to them.
@JonT that's toooooooooo hard.
No, I don't like that idea because a response could be 30 messages below what I'm replying to.
Yeah? WELL I DON'T LIKE YOUR IDEAS. Also there's an option to get emailed when someone @'s you so they can find it.
You could always write your comment in Haiku form.
Writing many words, is just unnecessary, choose them carefully.
@JonT Too many notes?
just trust us, it's better this way.
It was a haiku, but hard to convey that since I couldn't format it into multiple lines.
@JonT Can we request multi-line replies, then? Also, I think if poetry uses a / to indicate a new line if a new line will not be given.
@jqubed Just type < br > into the reply without the spaces.
That way you can
control the
lines.
What if I accidentally meh-ed something? Any plans to be able to un-meh the daily product? For example, if the witty description of it eventually wins me over or something.
You made your meh now sleep in it.
I think of the meh, as a check in. I saw this item. Doesn't have to actually be meh for me.
@jsh139 Just keep the streak going, the item doesn't matter.
@jont Can we please have the page auto-scroll to the first unread comment? ooh! and maybe a 'skip to next unread comment'?
The length of the 'foul mouth' topic is driving me crazy. scrolling sucks.
Note that right now, you can auto-scroll to the latest activity by clicking "last x" or "commented/replied x ago" on the main page.
Which one you see depends on if you're on mobile or not.
@harrison Is there a way to get the page to stay at the newest comment as the pics on the page load?
@harrison, ok that takes me to the latest as you said. Meh. Way better than having to scroll, but not as good as sort=unread (which apparently doesn't exist).
Is it possible to get some sort of bouncy thing or meter or something when close to selling out? Or does that exist and I missed it for the helicopter?
I suppose it's no good to just say "assume it's always about to sell out"?
@dave See that would be the reasonable thing to do but I don't get the sense that anyone here is reasonable.
How about the ability on the Meh Monthly calendar be able to click on a past day to pull up the old pages info
This.
Not a bad idea, for now try https://meh.com/forum?category=deals
fuck the deal info i want the fucking write-ups
Oh golly I should have clicked links today
@BabyBear HMMM I WONDER IF ANYONE EVER FOLLOWED UP ON THIS…
@JonT Seems to work ok. We'll have to see what the Aug calendar does once there is a Sept to navigate to. (Aug only has July and July only has Aug)
Can the search function start working on usernames as well? I'd like to find all the comments made by someone. Or hell, all the comments I made really.
There's some "stop the server from catching on fire" bugs we're working on now, but something like this is on the list.
Servers catching on fire can be fun. Especially since I don't work on them. I say, let 'em burn.
@Dave's comment is particularly amusing considering the forum crashes today
Quick note: While I can add a PNG image to main comments, like so... I can't add a PNG file in a reply to a comment. JPGs work, but PNGs don't.
See? https://res.cloudinary.com/mediocre/image/upload/c_pad,f_auto,h_600,w_600/oge5qui0udhpkxcwuot3.png
odd. trying with a simpler URL:
something about the commas...
Commas in img links are silly and don't work well with formatting code.
Welp, there you go....
@katylava I love your octopus! (or nonopus with one arm hidden?)
@curtise thanks, i didn't draw it though... just found it the google
Something I just noticed. The comments counter at the top of the thread (and under the topic on the main forum page) only counts the number of first-level comments. It doesn't count the replies to the comments. Seems like a bug to me.
Nah replies are side conversations. They don't count for popularity of the primary topic.
@jsh139 to be certain, I think you should count all of the comments on this thread: https://meh.com/forum/topics/fukubukuro
@MEHcus Speaking of that fuku thread is a bit ridiculous to scroll through. Any more efficient means to scroll through new comments?
Happy to see that this has been fixed (and even broken down at the top of the thread)! :)
Just a note that this doesn't work on mobile (the + symbol). All it does is pop up the comment box.
@MEHcus: Just found this -- yay!
A page where I can find my comments with links to those threads would also be helpful. I find myself leaving comments, then it's impossible to track them down again to see if anyone replied without using an @.
Any chance of listing multiple badges next to our username? I need stinking Badges!!!
if you hover you can see all of your statuses. statusi? statusees?
Statum
I know that, I would just like to see a stack of them by my name. Maybe I am greedy!
Badges? how do you get badges?
@Kidsandliz By being awesome.
@Mavyn I am awesome. I tried to buy something purple except meh blew up my attempt at midnight. Do I also need to buy a dock?
@Kidsandliz The badges are for being a kickstarter, being a Mediocre employee, the ocoptus squidgee, A VMP (when you bought that badge, if you'd paid the $5 for the month of free shipping), or the ScapeGoat. There might be others, but those are the main ones. Too late to earn a K, but you can get a VMP...or apply for a job...or try to be @marklog although he might not appreciate it.
Sometimes when I post a url to an image the image shows up and sometimes it doesn't and I don't know why. Granted, this could be my problem, but I still want you to fix it.
If the URL ends with .jpg .png .gif (maybe others?) it'll display the image.
unless that URL has ( ) % or other symbols that make the code mad.
@dave is there currently a way to view past orders on mobile?
@becca main page bottom left "My Orders" link, or just click here https://meh.com/orders
@Ignorant ah, it seems rather obvious now. Thanks!
You guys need to stop looking at a gifted horse in the mouth.
Mr. Ed?
please explain where this gifted horse is and why if he's so gifted he can't be responsible for his own dental work.

I can see this being a bit of a challenge for now, but I like the idea. I'll see how possible it is.
What was wrong with Saturday's item?
Any way to paginate a thread? The Fukubukuro: Kickstart is getting lengthy and has a lot of pictures posted. On a refresh it is taking a while to load all of the pics and jumps around a lot. Would pagination help this by splitting up some of the pics?
I just posted this same idea elsewhere and still agree after finding I had been scooped over here.
My total amount spent (on my orders page) includes the amount of a canceled item. Can that that total be changed to exclude canceled orders?
@medz it's so cute that you think they are going to refund you!
I like how you are enhancing the forums. BUT, if I'm going to be selfish, is there somewhere where you are logging what hancements (en- or de-) you are putting in? Like a changelog. And if I dare be so bold, maybe a "things we are planning" list as well.
I blame @marklog. For no reason. Just, WTH @marklog?!
So you want to call this months changelog the @marklog?
+1 for the marklog log
@marklog on second thought, the backlog is more appropriate to be referred to as the @marklog, because it is all the crap they haven't fixed or implemented yet.
I want to have polls, do others agree that we should have polls?

None of these gave me any extra lives in Contra. You guys suck.
Customize colors - white on white on white on top of and behind white with white plush a dash of black for light grey accents ... just dont do it for everyone.
Let us choose our colors please, i'll even give you a hand full of loose change in order to do so.
it burns my eyes....so meh....but maybe that's what you're going for afterall.... if i can't see how crappy the item is, i might as well buy it.
I think there are browser options that allow this for Chrome/Safari/Firefox at least. You may have to learn a little CSS.
Hope this helps
More of a question than a request, but can you flask people see that I'm starring my own posts? If so, don't judge me. I'm fragile. Like, I'm going to immediately star this after posting. Stuart Smiley would be proud.
They can. It used to be that all of us could see it and judge you. SELF FIVE
@mac454
If the flask people didn't want us starring our own comments, it wouldn't be an option.
Goat high five
For those of us who pop into the forums sporadically and unpredictably all day and night, it would be suhweet to have a little indicator on the main forum page that said "You've seen everything below here already."
You could use those cookies everyone's always talking about, I bet.
Well, anything that's bold, has new stuff. Anything that's not, you've seen. TADAA
@Thumperchick Right, but I'm lazy and want to be explicitly told, "Stop scrolling here."
@editorkid Stop scrolling here.
@Mavyn beat me to it.
I'm digging the new Reply behaviour that includes the @marklog already in the reply window (when I am replying to marklog's reply).
@curtise Yup! Added some shiny new features just today
@JonT Also digging the reply to reply. Spiffy!
@JonT Me too! I recall asking for this in another thread. Working brilliantly. Thank you :)
@curtise I think it adds @marklog to every reply no matter who you reply to. Or maybe it just feels like it.
@marklog It Just Did To Mine! Added @Marklog That Is... Also I Hate This Phone. Capitalizing The First Letter Of Each Word. Curse You Google, Curse You @marklog
@JonT how come some @names are grey and some are blue? and are they not all generating notification emails anymore?
@jsh139 I clicked reply and started typing. Cursor was where expected, a single space after the @xxx. Might be you, not the site. :P
Must be a Firefox issue then. @Mavyn
@jsh139 Sure, blame the browser. :D
@Mavyn
@Mavyn Totally unfair to blame the browser.
@marklog I should rephrase. Must be an issue with meh.com's forum code's interaction with Firefox. ibsureblametheforumcode.
@jsh139 Also unfair to blame the forum code.
@marklog They seem to be missing your invitation. Yes, this is all your fault.
@bluedyn I don't think I could have made it any easier..
@marklog You're a very accommodating scapegoat. :)
@ceagee I do this, too. You are not alone. It happens most often when I'm on my phone. Even more annoying then.
@Kidsandliz especially if the voice said looser instead of loser
@VeeDubTDI good thing you knew what I meant and not what I typed. :)
Make the forums searchable by @marklog and anything else we might want to enter into it. Don't want to have to wait for the web creepy crawlers to make it google searchable...
They are! Magics!
I believe it simply is searching the topics, not the actual content in the form pages themselves.
That said, searching content would be great, but also seeing "posts made by X" instead of just "topics created by X."
@curtise I now have "fingered" in my search history somewhere on meh's servers. I blame you and @marklog
@Thumperchick If anyone complains, just tell them you were researching the ancient Finger protocol (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_protocol). Nothing to do with dogs. HONEST!
@Kidsandliz http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.193290.1314068665!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_635/alg-logo-nsa-google-jpg.jpg
@VeeDubTDI LOL
@Mavyn you type a lot of words
@Thumperchick Oooh oooooh I have been blamed for something along with @marklog Oh wait. No fair I wanted all the blame myself!!!
@jont it's official. Loading the fuku kick starter page through chrome on my iPad 2 crashes chrome, every time. Can one of you nerds replicate?
@marklog We're not all fancy enough to have iPads, but I'll check it out tomorrow!
@marklog @JonT Crashes on my iPad mini.
@marklog @JonT the page is nearly 120 megs. Meh needs pagination.
@marklog @JonT - It also crashed Chrome on my HTC One. It almost made it, though.
@marklog The page loaded fine on my Kindle Fire HDX® purchased from meh.com on their Two-for-Tuesday® sale. Talk about a hole in one.
@Mac454 The check's in the mail.
@marklog @JonT Works on my iPad 3 as of today.
Why are these replies suddenly so long? So much for short replies!
@VeeDubTDI Hooray for long replies! Long live long replies!
@VeeDubTDI I just wrote a reply and was shocked to see that it let me babble on. It just encourages that sort of behavior. I blame @marklog.
so how do I see what i posted? @username">https://meh.com/@username doesn't show me anything :|
it seems like my username is a special keyword.. damn it.. little bobby tables
@username
@username Clicking your name just shows threads that you've started, not all of your posts. Have you started any threads?
The edit box needs to be more than one line high. Either that or it needs "speed scroll" to the right.
Might need to start a Korean language forum and an English language forum.
well now you're just being @Ignorant
@Ignorant Or at least different threads.
@Ignorant - I understand the urge to separate, but right now I'm curious to see how this will work out. If we end up being a badly translated hodgepodge community that develops a new forum culture, or something.
@Thumperchick What if we start learning Korean and they learn English? Then we could develop a culture of Koreish slang!
@Ignorant I like the mix. BUT I think it would be nice if the new translator, @nathanK would translate all the Korean comments so we could all understand. Even if it's just a shipping comment. I can't write a snarky reply if I don't understand it.
@ceagee And then have him translate your snarky reply?
@jqubed Absolutely. Remember : World Peace begins w/ speaker docks.
@Thumperchick if only we could figure out how our English snark translates to their Korean...what if meh is a Korean synonym for amazing?
@jqubed Exactly what I mean! Mehkoreanglish!
@ceagee - Yes! I got the idea that's what he would be doing, from his post. Alas, only a few are translated.
i'm learning Korean. slowly. i started a couple years ago because i was watching k-dramas, but i never get very far before i forget to practice for a few months and forget everything i learned. i'm hoping the Korean posts will keep me inspired though.
I dig the map change to highlight states and then show counties once zoomed.
Why do I have to sign in with Amazon or Google?
I'm always signed in to Steam. Can you add that?
@2many2no You don't have to sign in with Amazon or Google. You can sign in with Meh. Which is better than every other signin method.
@2many2no You can sign up just using an email address.
@JonT But signing in with Steam would let us go pew pew while we're commenting.
@editorkid Oh, yes please! I want to be a pew pew kitteh.
It'd be cool to see what the most starred comments are across the whole forum, maybe a top 25?
@TaRDy I like that idea. Especially if they just auto-post to their own discussion as star-counts rise. Sort of a forum mad libs, if that makes sense
Can you add the My Account / My Orders / etc. footer to all pages? It's annoying to have to go back to the homepage to get to the My Orders page.
I can beat the 5 minute edit limit. I will edit this post 10 minutes from now.
@TaRDy I am the best and succeeded in my original endeavor! Also I smell
@TaRDy You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Keep up the effort.
@TaRDy I was so ready to be impressed.
@TaRDy most of us wouldn't have known, you should've just claimed you edited it.
@JonT Look again at my comment. 8 minute updates work!
@TaRDy Hey good job, kind of odd that you mentioned that last bit though.
@JonT is this payback for my 9001 on entanglement? or instructions on how to get a perfect score on the movie game? or instructions on how to skip to the last level on game about squares?
@TaRDy I expected better from you.
@Kidsandliz I think the answer is the thing you say you don't want to do.
@magic_cave https://mediocre.com/forum/topics/geoguessr ?
@Kidsandliz You can search for old threads, you just can't scroll to them.
@TaRDy from @JonT's thread here
https://meh.com/forum/topics/meh-style-guide-learn-how-to-post-good
"Embeds
Image and gif embeds work when you paste in the image url directly, no forum code needed. If it ends in .jpg, .png, .gif, it’ll automatically embed. Unless it's from some weird site, in which case you should just upload it to imgur.
https://i.imgur.com/ bgwwQ1T.gif
That’s the url I pasted in that automagically makes the gif appear.
@TaRDy I'm picking up what you're putting down and I like the idea.
My orders now show my address with the word 'null' on the end of it. Presumably because I didn't pick St, Rd, Blvd, Ave, etc (though etc is not a proper address suffix). It looks stupid.
@marklog Agreed, that looks pretty fucking stupid. We'll work on that.
@marklog Fixed.
The numbers in ordered lists are cut off on the left. These screenshots are from Safari 7.0.6 and Chrome 36.0.1985.143 under OS X 10.9.4.
@SSteve look at all those unnecessary pixels saved. such innovation!
@snapster In that case, let's make all the forum text white-on-white. Am I an employee now?
@SSteve actually I guess they are already white so we would use less pixels if this bug were fixed.
@SSteve @snapster You guys are worried about pixies when there are more important things to be concerned about--such as, "Why does ice cream melt so fast when the temperature is 100 degrees?"
@SSteve This is fixed now by the way.
@JonT Peaceful sleep is mine again!
When you reply @Someone have capital letters be ignored. So
@SomeOne
@someOne
@someone
All goes to the @SOMEONE
@Ryaneil I believe it already does this, but I'm looking into it. An email won't be sent out if you view the topic before the email would be sent (15 minutes after posting).
@katylava When this site becomes so popular that people are making up usernames, this distinction may become important. @zacatac and @ZaCaTaC might be very different people.
@zacatac
@katylava Oh I see, the whole process is not capital letter responsive. That works for me!
@katylava I was feeling left out as a used up goat with no responses to anything and found out that this was indeed not working. People were responding just without my capital R.
@ryaneil (1) testing and (2) looks like it was the lack of space before @ in this reply
or not. haven't figured out where it's not accounting for this yet though. everywhere i look it's comparing all lowercase to all lowercase.
@katylava I vote that whatever the solution, you continue to use words like "pagination." Rolls off the tongue nicely...
How about a "sell-out time" label that indicates what time a product sold out? Or, maybe a tooltip when you hover over the "You missed it" button?
I just realized that clicking on the old Meh faces takes you to the page for whatever sold that day. I don't know how long it's been that way, but thank you!
@PurplePawprints
@TaRDy I guess that's possible since I hadn't checked it before. I just assumed it was newish since I thought I remembered someone suggesting it here.
@PurplePawprints I just wanted to use that gif. But yea, I'm pretty sure it has been around for a while, I forget when I first used it :-/
@TaRDy Well, it IS a good gif. I'm not mad.
New option for replying:
BLAME button. Automagically fills in this month's scape goat's name (instead of the person you are replying to).
This will make remembering who to blame that much easier and help with spelling their name.
Here is my mock-up:
@TaRDy i'm trying to star the star in the gif. doesn't work.
have you tried blaming
@marklog@studerc yet?Sometimes you just gotta do things yourself. https://meh.com/forum/topics/blame-the-goat-meh-tools-unofficial-chrome-extension
@medz Oh, cool, thanks for the heads up. It's a Gmail account I've had for years so it's been that long since I looked at its settings.
@editorkid Yeah, definitely check your settings. I get the gifs in the email. They appear as little image icons (in gmail) before they're downloaded. So, in theory you could leave it off and know that there's a gif waiting for you (but not spoiled).
@jsh139 Thanks for the confirmation. I'll play with it this weekend.
A list of stats on the user page might be fun: Total number of stars received, total items purchased, total money spent, etc.
So, can u post b4 midnight EST once in a while? PUHLEEZE?
@Felyne That would go against the core idea of the site. NUHOOOOOOOOOOOO
@Felyne They do in three quarters of the country and about half of the world. Maybe this is your fault or @studerc's.
@Felyne If you set the timezone on your computer to the U.K., that will set the clock ahead. This will make it midnight earlier, letting you see the day's Meh before midnight EST.
@Felyne Isn't it the same time everywhere?
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! How about a franchise? East Coast Meh, we don't care here, either.
@Felyne
Just make sure there's enough cheese to go with that! OK, if u can't be nice, and who would want u to b, how about having enough prods to go round?
@Felyne You can have my prod. I'm not really into the kinky electric stuff.
Thx, @PP, I like the electronics, not the kinky stuff. Oh, it's all kinky stuff. ;-) Sold out b4 EST wake up! Iz just fun!
@gio I'm thinking this is probably an option you can set in your browser- not loading images, or stopping gifs from playing more than one frame.
@dashcloud That's what I thought, too. My browser is Chromium, and I've tried 3 or 4 extensions that sound promising but do absolutely nothing. The latest was GifJam which has high ratings, and I note in the comments that it clashes with AdBlock so that may be my issue with that extension.
And I just noticed that meh's forum pages are https which another GifJam commenter said doesn't work with the extension.
Make product images swipeable on mobile. Clicking the little dots is seriously annoying.
@pinxi Just click the image itself and it should advance to the next. Don't have to hit the tiny dots.
@medz Thanks for the tip! I've been frustrated by the little dots too. Turns out that on my tablet one tap of the picture enlarges it, and a second tap moves it to the next picture.
Is it just me or is there no way to star a top level comment when on mobile in landscape view?
@medz if the width is greater than 575 pixels on a phone in landscape view, this takes it out of "mobile" mode for the site and returns you to regular browsing. At around 687 pixels, it seems that it starts to lose the Star itself.
@TaRDy I have a nexus 5. It happens if I start on the page in portrait view then rotate. If the page originally loads in landscape, the star is there.
Damnit @studerc! Sorry @medz, I can only provide my insight as to how the page appears to decide "mobile" view vs desktop view.
@zacatac but think of all the page views.
@zacatac it normally does turn gray so if it didn't something was wrong...we'll take a look, thanks!
@JonT On an iPad or an iPhone (in my experience), it doesn't really gray out. If the selection just says (Sold Out) or something, that would work.
It's very hard to edit a reply on an iPad (and I assume on other mobile devices, but the iPad is the only one I've tried). When the reply extends beyond the extents of the text window, trying to scroll to the right with autoscroll is an exercise in frustration. And I hate exercise.
If an item sells out it would be cool to see the time it sold out so that we can whine that we were only "5 minutes late waah stupid @goat"
@goat if this is someone's name I apoligize for the summons.
site enhancement request: @goat alias for the goat.
@editorkid Well, look who's all smart and thinking ahead.
@PurplePawprints If that were true, I would've used the account to score a second Fukubukuro last night.
... Dammit! runs off to find time machine
@editorkid wonder how much you can sell that user name back to meh...
@editorkid Hmmm.... "b---nr--en--oo-" eh? boner-enhancing-goo, maybe? sounds like an order number to me.
"96.99% of you didn't bite before we sold out at 8:40 am ET. " Thanks for adding this. I like knowing the sellout time, too.
@darksaber99999 Yep!
@JonT So is it too soon to ask for it to say "before [whoever] grabbed the last one at 8:40 am ET"?
@darksaber99999 @JonT I would like to point out that I was the first one to ask for this feature. So, you all have me to thank (or blame) for this. Just sayin'. https://meh.com/forum/topics/site-enhancement-requests#5405de79b47fe680035c5140
@editorkid Really like this idea, I'll see how tough it is for us to implement it so no promises and it might be a while...but I like it.
Narcissism alert! I want my account page to show my comments and replies sorted by number of stars.
@jsh139 Type your reply, read the rest of the unread, then hit the green button.
@Thumperchick But what if there are multiple things I want to reply to? Of course I can read the whole thread and then decide to reply, but you know as well as I do that long threads have multiple side conversations going at once. I think it might be your fault!
@jsh139 It is completely my fault! I did it on purpose to annoy the crap out of you. bleat
@Thumperchick
I see that a date has been added to the VMP badge (when you hover over it). Looks like I've been a VMP since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z. Funny, I wasn't even born yet ;)
@jsh139 yep, we're fixing that up right now
This one's hopefully not going to be that common... I just tried my phone (Nexus 5, KitKat) to track the correct headset, but the mobile portrait layout only has enough room to show one tracking number. Both show up fine with landscape.
Just noticed the images on the product page are now swipe-able 😃
@Ignorant Yeah, I noticed that too. They don't animate but swiping them works. Cool stuff!
@Thumperchick @editorkid
@dave responded to that issue here https://mediocre.com/forum/topics/profile-submenu---vmp-membership-link-is-confusing#546cb95b9d8f2570098bf62f
@Ignorant Thanks for the pointer. I kind of figured it was a placeholder, but also figured I'd bitch about it, because that's what forums are for.
@kkarkera no need to feel stupid, maybe feel silly.
Is there / can there be a link to meh.com on mediocre.com? Sometimes I end up at mediocre.com and I want to re-visit meh.com. Thanks!
Hows about a floating "back to top" icon in the lower left or right corner of the thread for those of us who don't like to take our hands off of the mouse? The back button isn't always useful if you reply to a thread and then click it. I like to click the "/FORUM" link at the top after reading a thread.
@jsh139 Is hitting the Home button out of the question? Oh, that would make you take your hands off the mouse...
@Thumperchick Yep, out of the question!!!! :)
@jsh139 Use your feet:
@SirLouie @Thumperchick Great idea. In the meantime, you can do this in two clicks. Click the "Discuss my rad purchase" button, and then once the forum topic loads, click the picture of the item. That will take you to the original deal page.
@jsh139 Whaa?? Did you just add this? I could have sworn I tried everything before I submitted my comment. Thanks for the tip!!! (TWSS)
@SirLouie I didn't do anything. But, I think that has always been the fastest way to do it!
Is there anywhere to see our old meh button clicks? The past months are gone.
@darksaber99999 they found that the past calendars was one of the things making the site run slow. They said they'll bring it back once it's fixed.
@Thumperchick Okay, thanks.
@SirLouie Totally agree on showing comments as well. This is on our list, but not sure when we'll get to it.
First time I came to the page, hover to zoom worked with no click. Upon going to the forum and then back to meh.com, had to click on the picture to get the photo zoomer working. Using most updated chrome with most updated windows 7
I noticed that the forum resizes images that are too wide, but does it resize images that are too tall?
@jsh139 Guess not. Maybe it should? Seems like the max width is 576px. But, there is no restriction on height. Perhaps limit image height to 640px?
@jsh139
@JonT
How about a way to close out the order confirmation window? I don't want an email nor do I want to review my order. Impulse buy means just give it to me and stop questioning me!
Or is there some other way to close that pop up without clicking the two visible options?
@foreverpurple Click outside of the window and it should close (but not on mobile). Alternately, just go somewhere else, like http://whatcolourisit.scn9a.org
@dave omg, that site is awesome.
It would be cool to see who starred your comment. Maybe have the user names pop up if you hover over your star. That way we can play favorites!
@Cinoclav We did this when we launched, but once we got big enough, it apparently killed the database, and some stupid jerk said it was more important for people to be able to buy things.
@dave I was wondering why that went away. I miss being able to see who thinks I'm awesome.
@dave Hmm, must have been before I discovered the site (stupid me). Now that the cold cash is trickling in, it's time to upgrade the systems and bring back this feature!
@Thumperchick Duh... We all do!
@dave I am curious what kind of database that you are/were using for that. Have you looked at something like Neo4J? Seems like it was made for that sort of data.
@bruceoite Sorry, that's where my knowledge stops. Maybe @shawn will jump in here.
@dave @bruceoite I seem to remember them saying Node.js/Express with MongoDB. But they use different frameworks/DBs for different things, so I might not be correct about that.
@jsh139 Yea, I would imagine that they would have the forums running as a separate app, but maybe they went a more mediocre route.
@bruceoite @jsh139 @dave not really a database issue, but this feature was one of the things that broke during load testing when we tested thousands of comments and thousands of replies each with thousands of votes. i'll look at bringing it back. i suspect it will be fine at the current voting levels.
@shawn HAHA AWESOME! YEAH! BUT IT SHOULD ONLY WORK ON NEW TOPICS SO NOBODY CAN SEE IF SOMEONE HAS BEEN STARRING THEIR OWN POSTS HAHA...HA..
@JonT No need to yell, bro.
@shawn Cool. I am always curious how different places set up this type of stuff. Last place I worked created an intranet that worked similar to Facebook and they used Neo4J to handle all of the likes and shares. Worked pretty well, but that was with a potential user base of 15K, which really only 20% used.
@JonT Why would you have to worry about that...unless of course you've been self-starring lots of your posts?
@dashcloud No no no of course not! Me? Never! No way, hahaha that's a funny joke! Who would do that, hahahaha.
@JonT ★1 Hmm....
I prefer to keep my stars anonymous.
@Thumperchick I think you're awesome.
@Bogie
@Foxborn This has my vote.
@Foxborn an interesting idea, but I'm not quite sure about the implementation and ideally no one person would be continually annoying enough to warrant this feature...but that's 'ideally'.
@JonT I'd like just the ignore feature (I wouldn't ignore the curmudgeon, I have too much fun slapping him).
@Pamtha @JonT @Headly @metaphore I also recently also made a trade and awarded a fuku in a content - and had to post an email address to communicate with the members, however, in both instances, anyone following the forum posts could have hijacked the entire thing . .
@JonT Thanks. I assumed it would show up eventually, was just hoping by asking, it might be a slightly sooner eventually.
How about adding a link to https://meh.com/forum at the bottom of threads?
@meatyochre And/or a "jump to top" link. It appears to be especially painful for long-ish topics such as this one.
@NigelF The "Home" key is your friend.
@emilyap a) Not every keyboard has a "Home" key. b) Not unreasonable to expect to perform almost all navigation functions via mouse.
@NigelF @emilyap or by touch for those of us on tablets and phones
@gio If using an apple device and Safari on said device then tapping above the address bar zips you to the top of the page.
@Ignorant Thanks, but only Android devices here.
@gio works on chrome on iOS too, not sure if chrome on android works the same.
@Ignorant Doesn't work for me, but I don't have the latest OS on either device so can't say for sure that it wouldn't work for others. Thanks again for trying to help!
@emilyap can't find Home key on phone. ET is sad.
I am too lazy to look through 400+ ideas so forgive me if this was covered, but there needs to be a way to get from the Meh forum to the mediocre forum. This particularly is important when trying to find the cool mediocre VMP perk orders.
I would like to see VMPs get an email when the deal gets down to 10% left.
A way to expand and collapse replies would be nice. So when one post gets crazy popular and takes up a ton of meh page, I can collapse it to simplify reading.
Also, a Meh chat room, this could also solve the issue of 2 people having a conversation via forums and cluttering it.
@Bogie So, how’s life?
@ELUNO Oh man, replying to a post from almost 2 1/2 years ago! Since you asked, Life is good. Way busier than I used to be which has its advantages and disadvantages…
@Bogie Same here! Busy job means being super busy, but beats having a boring job!
@shawn, wouldn't it be cool if topic creators had light moderating capability?
eh, probably only in some very limited cases. Interested to hear your thoughts.
@marklog What capabilities would you like, and in what situation would this have been useful?
@marklog I love that idea... It would be great for contests...
@marklog While the short edit window is limiting, it keeps things constantly moving forward.
@Thumperchick - Right, with a longer edit window there would be more orphaned replies hanging out there.
@shawn ^^^ probably should have tagged you before.
No captcha’s for VMP’s! You know we are not robots, right?
@Kidsandliz https://meh.com/forum/topics/official-unofficial-meh-reveal-thread-fukobukuro-19#5ad673ffcab36e08381f6884
@Kidsandliz Next time, click the timestamp next to the post you want to save and that will open a url that goes directly to that post. Add that link to your bookmarks/favorites in your browser for future reference.
@medz Thanks for the idea
@Ignorant Thanks for finding that for me.
