Fantasy Football (Goat Style)
6The time is coming. As GOAT I have think that I am awarded one wish. Do I wish for Fame? Riches? Eternal Life? Fuku? No, I wish for - The League - 12 Teams Only.
I wish for a league of my choosing. Here is my list of participants so far for this league.
@Capguncowboy (we have a score to settle from deals.woot days)
@Denboy (the only person to actually talk to me on my Tom Brady thread and ingester of Sea Monkeys - you also get to be Commissioner)
@Christinewas (Please Bitch, let's see what you got)
@Terpie (Florida still has professional football?)
@soomass (He is cocky - and I like it! No jokes allowed on this one)
I am taking applications for the rest of the spots. Recommendations for other league members from the above listed group of individuals will be given priority status.
Know this - I am an asshole when it comes to FFL. Trash talking is required! I only want a league with experienced FFL players.
There are also some rules.
1) you participate in the Draft no matter what - I hate autodrafts or lists.
2) you know the teams, the players, and the rosters
3) you participate in free agency each week.
4) you are able to set a lineup each week.
5) Be amenable to fair trades - it makes it interesting.
6) If you take Jay Cutler in the first round I will lop off you head - you don't know anything about fantasy.
This is all about fun - to the death!

YES.
@christinewas
@mfladd
@mfladd I wanna be clear that my daughter was not raised to waste her time on football. But she was raised to be a competitor and, while extraordinarily kind and generous, she has the personality type of evil genius. And she does the maths. I look forward to seeing her annihilate you. This will probably be the one thing I enjoy most about this ridiculous football thing all year. Sorry, bro.
Here's a gif for later, @christinewas.
Yeah, I like Dexter. You should never underestimate the quiet, geeky ones.
@joelmw She is a lovely, and intelligent young lady. Intelligent enough to love football - unlike some parents. I have only great respect for her. But she does like to dish out the crap (you didn't see the other thread did you?) Jaremelz (I don't even want to summon her) and her were beating up on me pretty good :) But fantasy football is take no prisoners - let's see what she's got :)
@mfladd You don't know the half of the ways that she's better than both of her parents (not that liking football is one of them). She did mention something about harassing you. We consider that a token of love and respect in our family. She must like you. Can you help a lazy old man find that thread? I'm sure I'd enjoy it. :-)
@joelmw yup. It was ugly. espically with my deviant friend @jaremelz (shit! I pinged her). Thread: https://meh.com/forum/topics/meh-fantasy-football-league#55caf66a82e0c65808b7a2b5 You will even see @dashcloud warned me of the trouble.
@joelmw, I don't know why @mfladd summoned me to his little sportsball thread, but @christinewas is a good egg. I like her.
As for you, @mfladd, get off my...
@jaremelz at least you know you are an ass ;)~
@mfladd Har Har. I thought I was rid of you once this whole football thing started up. Just when I think I'm clear...
@jaremelz without me.......
@mfladd
@joelmw Is she single? @christinewas @rareluck
@Teripie She's happily married and we really like him, so don't get any ideas. 😉
@Teripie Are you kidding? Someone snatched this up years ago! Haha.
In all seriousness, though, my husband is awesome. Ironically, I have been the one dragging him into football and fantasy sports. When we got married, it was mutually understood that we would be more of a college basketball family. I never would have believed that I would become a football fan.
There is no fun in sport. Only victory. I will destroy you all.
@MEHcus victory... and severe loss.
@MEHcus Does this mean you actually want into this league?
@mfladd I've got dibs on Dez
@MEHcus I will take that as a yes. spot confirmed. Question is will you be in a draft order place to get him?
me. go sports.
@marklog
@mfladd yes please. I was quoting a woot shirt.
@marklog Done. But if I beat you I want one of your home brews.
Here's my application:
@DrunkCat Are you ready to abide by all of the rules above?
@mfladd On the grounds that I refuse to call it football and will call it gridiron.
@DrunkCat Done. You're in.
@mfladd Hubris Inebriated 2016 undefeated season here we come.
I volunteer as tribute. Fantasy Goat Ball. My Team Name: Step Dads "because we are beating you and you hate us."
@connorbush I like your moxie. Do you have fantasy experience? Answer honestly.
@mfladd two seasons on yahoo sports. sarcasm approaching I have also seen every episode of The League.
@connorbush then you are in. spot confirmed.
My 1st act as commissioner is to create a secret handshake.
My 2nd act as commissioner is to step down as commissioner. @mfladd is much more qualified....plus you'll need something to do post goathood.
@denboy I can post goat hood..
I'd be in as the wild card. I don't follow football/players, but I tend to do well when it comes to FF. This means, while the season is going, you can mock all the people I'm beating at that time.
@Bogie Ok, here is where I am at.
You lack football knowledge as you have stated. But you were also one of the first to reply. I also just got off a thread stating why you were not more involved here - even if we are scary. Do you promise to take the time and effort to do the research prior to the draft and commit to all the rules above and take the time to seriously participate (or forever be banished)? Answer honestly. I would like to see you more involved here :)
Is this the part where Morpheus tells me there is no prize?
Count me in (of course)!
I sure wish @DrunkCajun was over here so he could participate. He really knew how to lose! We need more guys like him in our league!
To quote Shah Muhammad of the Khwarazmian Empire:
"I am the Flail of God. If you had not committed great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you."
Get ready for the pain, son.
@capguncowboy Yes DrunkCajun! I would send him a woot inmail but he would never find it! Hate that system. Maybe I can ping him from deals.woot.
@mfladd Please do!
I'm just trying to figure out who's gonna' come in second. He's just as good of a candidate as any.
@capguncowboy we shall see. I sent him two msgs from old deals, including my email.
@capguncowboy 2nd? - bitch, please ;)
@Denboy Is Meh HQ willing to provide a prize to the winner of this league? It is the wish of the goat.
@mfladd Awww... Thanks for looking out for me. Simply crushing you will be enough, but I love prizes.
and don't disappoint @capguncowboy - he was once promised a prize on deals.woot fantasy - he won - promise was unfulfilled.
@mfladd an Applebee's gift card sounds like a mighty mediocre prize. I bet there are better ideas that can be worked.
@denboy Please elaborate. But I am going to hold you to your vague promise. Please don't disappoint the Goat.
I am so ready for this! I will humiliate all of you!
@Teripie Spot confirmed.
@Teripie It's cool. I expect people to lash out when they lose. If humiliation is your style, I will accept that as the cost of beating you.
@christinewas I like your style ;)
@Teripie You probably will humiliate me. My level of suck is significant. Anyone that loses to me should feel like a complete idiot and hide in a closet for days after the loss. I would wish you good luck but you won't need it.
@denboy I have talked with you and you level of football knowledge is significant. How can you suck? I think you are lulling people into a false sense of security.
@mfladd
Can we PLEASE do an auction draft? I feel like I at least have a little control over the players I get in an auction draft!
@capguncowboy NO. next agenda item.
I ignore morals when playing, I have no issue drafting Adrian Peterson. I want in.
Also I have an uncanny ability that allows my opponent for the week to score their highest output of the year.
Oh and if you are patriots fan, no everyone is jealous of your team like you think. 1 title in 10 years isn't impressive. Get over yourself.
@MrMark I had Ray Rice in the meh league last year. What a waste.
@MrMark Are you kidding me? Even if I wasn't a fan (which I am born and raised) they deserve respect. Their accomplishments in the age of free agency is unrivaled by any other team. Haters gonna hate.
If you want to talk shit about the Patriots see me over here.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/scapegoat-of-the-month-nomination-tom-brady
But I like the fact you talk shit. If you can abide by the rules I have posted state yay or nay.
@mfladd official response: yay
@MrMark Spot confirmed.
@MrMark Yes, Adrian Peterson, Josh Gordon and Ray Rice will be high commodities this season! If I can pair them up with Aaron Rodriguez, I'll have an awesome start to a great team!
@MrMark it's funny you mention Morals. My work league, (which is a pay league) did have a morals clause. If one of your players was found to be in violations of certain rules that owner whould have to pony up more money. I think we had 3-4 violations that year. Don't worry - I am not implementing one.
@mfladd Haha, I'd have a team penalized every time one of their players 'thanked god' in some manner. "Hey, they apparently weren't responsible for their own success so why should you benefit as well?"
I promise to not fuck up your league; by not participating in it. You're welcome.
@Thumperchick That deserves some sort of MVP
Here is where we are at - 12 spots
1) @capguncowboy
2) @Christinewas
3) @Teripie
4) @denboy
5) @MEHcus
6) @marklog
7) @DrunkCat
8) @connorbush
9) @MrMark
10) @mfladd
The two spots left are being held for @Bogie's reply and to see if we can resurrect from @DrunkCajun from Deals.Woot. (he's awesome).
@mfladd I'm in, if you'll have me.
@Bogie you are in, start scouring the web for draft research. It is nice to have you in. See we are not that scary - yet ;)
I am totally willing to join if the goat allows it!
@studerc for you I will go to a 14 team league. NO MORE. you are in.
If you promise to turn off that evil self starring extension ;)
@mfladd no extension. I do it all by myself. :) you the real mvp
@studerc then you are evil, in a nice way.
I also may have a favor to ask of you later - as far as setting up a place we can all meet up and share - not my thing. Is this possible?
@mfladd What exactly do you have in mind? We could set up a google doc and anyone with permission can gain access to view, edit, and chat.
@studerc I will be honest I have no experience with setting up such a thing. We used Slack for Team Breakfast Octopi. You tell me what would work. Is Google Docs better?
@mfladd i think so. Plus things are super easy to set up. I can use the mehexchange account to gather info if that helps.
@studerc Thank you. More to come on this.
I forgot we are still waiting to hear from @soomass
you have 4 hours to reply or your spot will be filled.
@mfladd Don't worry you know I'm always down to embarrass you guys ;) Also go Pats! Free Brady!
@soomass spot confirmed
We have only 1 more spot. My thoughts with a 14 team league is we have 1 division and everybody plays each other once. I will also take polls on a few items - so everyone keep checking back.
@mfladd My thoughts with a 14-team league are that you are crazy! Aside from that, I can see how one division might make sense.
@christinewas I know, blame @studerc. But I am very happy with everyone we have. I think it will be a great season. Just not for you ;)~
@mfladd See, I would blame him, but it might have been worth it. Plus... he's not the goat.
@christinewas however I am a goat ancestor from a time but one year ago. I accept the blame as an honor.
@MEHcus, @Christinewas, @Teripie, @marklog, @connorbush, @soomass, @capguncowboy, @MrMark, @DrunkCat, @denboy, @Bogie, @studerc
Here is the first poll. PPR? Yay or Nay? Please check in.
Nay.
@mfladd no
@mfladd I'm gonna say no. I also found this
/page/nfldk2k14pprstrategy/point-per-reception-ppr-league-strategy">http://espn.go.com/fantasy/football/story//page/nfldk2k14pprstrategy/point-per-reception-ppr-league-strategy
@mfladd nay
@DrunkCat link is ot working, but the Nays are coming in anyway.
@mfladd I could go either way on this one. I've wanted to try PPR, but that was mostly due to an excessive attachment to Wes Welker. That's kind of a moot point, these days.
@mfladd i vote yes
@soomass this was just a test. You failed, you're out.
@christinewas Sadly, yes it is. Welker seriously declined after leaving the Pats.
@mfladd I think he did pretty well in 2013. At least, before he started racking up concussions.
@mfladd I've never played PPR, so I vote ambivalence, I wouldn't mind trying.
@mfladd Article: Man takes vacation from being human, becomes goat
Man takes vacation from being human, becomes goat
http://flip.it/3T4Lu
@connorbush ok, i wouldn't go that far...but cool article - thanks.
@mfladd I would vote yes. With a league with this many teams you need to make more players relevant. PPR I believe makes it more competitive, you can survive and beat a guy who gets a random 3 TD performance from a player in PPR.
@capguncowboy Darren Sproles disagrees.
@mfladd I'm a fan of the PPR
@MrMark that is a good point.
@mfladd Nay....although I'm fine with ppr too
@mfladd I'm not sure what the question is, but I think I vote yes.
@mfladd There is always the option of 1/2 point per reception. Might be the way to go since people seem split on yay/nay.
@mfladd I'll defer my decision to someone more educated with what PPR means (I google searched what it stands for, but it didn't help)
@Bogie Point per reception. It means any time a TE, WR, or RB catches a pass that you get an extra point on top of the points they scored for the yardage (and possible TD/2pt conversion catch). Basically it adds incentive for you to draft consistent pass catching WR's/TE's as opposed to guys that are only utilized in the red zone and to draft RB's that are involved in the passing game instead of just a straight line runner.
@MEHcus Gotcha. I had looked it up but it still didn't make sense as to how it related to FF. I'd say let's do it!
We as a league are definitely split on this. So I agree with the wisdom of @MrMark (patriot hater) that with a 14 team league we need to make players more relevant - to make it more palatable to everyone we will go with 1/2 point PPR.
Am I too late? Damn, I'm always late.
@mfladd Stupid goat!
@TaRDy Yes! You made it just in time. You are in my chronically late friend.
@mfladd cool! Can't wait to score some goals against your team and snow your goalie.
@TaRDy you are so the next goat.
Weigh in on my question above.
@mfladd I'll drop the gloves now if I have to!
@TaRDy I think league name should be Stupid Goat!
This league is officially closed to new participants. Sorry. Look for further updates from @JonT. Don't think you have missed out on the action as he will be posting for even more leagues.
@mfladd this is correct! Most likely tomorrow!
@JonT i wish i never read this..... i wish i had never been here. :)
@JonT more importantly...which tomorrow do you speak of? Tomorrow? Tomorrow's tomorrow? Or perhaps yesterday's tomorrow's tomorrow? More than likely its eventually's tomorrow. Just like the prizes...
@studerc
@studerc I'm so glad that you understand the fluid nature of "tomorrow"!
You bitches have some fun. I'm looking forward to tuning in for the trash talking. Hoping for a mehflategate too.
Will this be treated like the other meh leagues? Or should we also consider joining one of the leagues @jont posts tomorrow?
@christinewas this seems different. Im still planning on joining. Though, if things get packed i may drop out of @JonT's to allow another to play. Seems fair.
@christinewas @studerc good question. I don't know how this will be treated. I was hoping that as my one goat request it would be treated as a Meh. league. Only @JonT can say.
@christinewas you may want to have a backup league where you have chance.
@mfladd Oh. I thought that's why I was joining this league.
First pick: Geno Smith
@Einherjar13 thanks for the tip! My jaw nearly dropped when I realized I hadn't thought of that.
@Einherjar13 I was thinkin C.J. Wilson as my first pick.
@Einherjar13 snickers sleepers.
@JonT We, the members of this league (yet unnamed) are petitioning for recognition as an Official Meh. Fantasy Football League. What say you - Yay or Nay?
@JonT I second this motion. @mfladd
@mfladd @Bogie Since we're not actually running it I'm not sure if we can quite say it's completely official, but I'm certainly willing to say it's fully endorsed and supported!
@JonT But what if @MEHcus was commissioner? hmmmm?
Are those crickets???
@mfladd : So, it's that time again. Thanks for the heads up. You will come to regret that. ;)
@drunkcajun Holy Shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice to see you, you inebriated crawdad!
@Capguncowboy - back from the grave he is.
@mfladd Back 'atcha! Is this the "new" spot? Other than the posted rules, anything else I should know?
@drunkcajun ok...I have good new and bad news.
Bad news first. We started this league with a max 12 teams, but then we went to 14. I can't push it any more or they will cut off my head - all spots are filled, and I didn't know if you would show up. You can blame me - I am the GOAT this month (you have some catching up to do here)
Wait! Don't Go.......
Good news - you are back and some of us missed you. This is the "new" place - a great community and the rules are very lax. Like woot in the old days, just with more profanity and meme's/gif's.
They will be posting more leagues here to play in. Please stay and play.
@JonT can you please see that @drunkcajun is placed in a good league. He played deals.woot FFL for years with @Capguncowboy and I. He knows his shit when he is sober. We are lucky to have him here.
@mfladd You got it! I'll reserve a slot in League 1 for @drunkcajun!
@JonT Thank you!
@drunkcajun Bob! Holy shit man, nice to see you! I tried to get you into this league, but Mark was all "But that's just one more guy that'll walk all over me!" Good to see you're still around. I hope you're here to stay
@drunkcajun are you still here?
@mfladd still here. I'll go where needed.
@drunkcajun nice! two other people from this league left (they sacrificed themselves) to get it down to 12. They will be playing in the same league as you. @JonT (the community moderator - has saved you a spot in the top league they are running. Go here and say you are in (I already save you a spot here too). It's nice to have you back.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/meh-fantasy-football-league---season-2
Have we decided on the platform/site we'll use? ESPN again?
@Teripie I was thinking CBS Sports
@Teripie I prefer ESPN as well, always seemed like most clean cut to me
@MEHcus Ok, but I have never used it.
I've used ESPN and Yahoo. Both are good. ESPN sucks for navigating to the league/team. So I always end up bookmarking the appropriate link once I finally find it. Yahoo app on my phone kills my battery, but it works well as well.
@mfladd @MEHcus @Bogie I know I'm not in this league but the one year I did a CBS league I absolutely hated their interface and remember the app being complete garbage.
I hate the way Yahoo looks but it's gotten better in the last few years. I had a good experience overall with ESPN last year and I like the way they do their drafts so we're most likely sticking with ESPN.
@mfladd So far just @MEHcus and I have weighed in on this. The other thread had a discussion about it. I can't recall, and am too lazy to look, how the 'voting' went there.
@Teripie ESPN it is.
@Teripie @mfladd Obligatory minority vote for NFL (fantasy.nfl.com)
@MEHcus, @Christinewas, @Teripie, @marklog, @connorbush, @soomass, @capguncowboy, @MrMark, @DrunkCat, @denboy, @Bogie, @studerc @TaRDy
1/2 point PPR it will be (see above). ESPN will be our site.
Next question: based on the size of our league and the limited amount of good QB's I am thinking 4 points per TD, rather than 6. We will be starting 1 (non-negotiable). I hate when QB's are to highly favored. Yay or Nay?
@mfladd Works for me
@MEHcus 4 points sounds good. Except Brady his point value should be deflated to 3. (You know, since I'm a patriot hater and all). If you are only allowed to play 75% of the season you should only get 75% of the points.
@MrMark Damn you ;)
@mfladd My first thought is that it will be confusing as hell, compared to the scoring of my other leagues (more to keep track of and compare). But, if it could help compensate for the imbalances created by 14 teams, I'm probably up for just about anything.
@mfladd im cool with that.
@MrMark Well played. My lady is from Boston and is a huge Pats fan. Giving her shit about their cheating ways is one of my favorite past times.
@mfladd So 4pts instead of 6pts for QBs that make a touchdown themselves or that throw/pass that leads to a TD?
@MEHcus You Bastard!
@Dalek would not be happy with you for this.
@DrunkCat I was thinking throw/pass, but I don't even know yet what you are asking can be broken up.
@mfladd in my other league, standard points are 4 points for a passing TD, 6 points for a rushing TD or receiving TD. This includes QBs that rush for a TD -- they still get 6 for those, and I don't think there is a way to filter out QB rushing TDs and award less points for them.
@mfladd This makes sense only if we're not doing a live draft. The strategy of how to value QB's is a fun dynamic for drafting that would be ashamed to take away from.
@mfladd Whatever works for everyone else.
So it's going to be a 14 team league? Not too crazy about that but I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
@Teripie Agreed. 12 should really be the max but the commish gets what the commish wants.
@mfladd In NFL leagues the points awarded for TDs can be set for RB/WR/QB separately and the QB himself can get points for throwing a TD pass.
Also yeah, I thought this was gonna be 12?
@MEHcus @Teripie @DrunkCat I agree that 12 is all I wanted, but blame @studerc for wanting in. How can I deny a Mehrican Exchange official and ex-goat. Plus, there is @TaRDY who is Team Breakfast Octopi and a royal pain in my ass. So yes, 14.
@mfladd if it pleases the court. I really can bow out. It really is ok. So long as i can get a spot in a @JonT league!
@mfladd same as what @studerc said
@studerc @TaRDy I am saddened by this. I don't want to see you go, but.....I am going to let you go for the good of the league (I hate this..I wish there were more relevant players to go around - I feel like an asshole).
@JonT I am an asshole for letting @studerc and @TaRDy go, Can you please find spots for them, along with @drunkcajun in League 1?
I feel like shit right now.
@mfladd
@connorbush I am.
@mfladd I know this incredible feeling of relief means I am, too. This IS fantasy football, though. It's not fantasy puppy exchange.
@christinewas I know you are right.
@mfladd I can always back out too.. Gives those that know what they're doing a chance to participate.
@Bogie Nope - you are in. Get ready.
@studerc @Tardy No opting out now. You wanted to play with the big kids so you get to play with the big kids. May god have mercy on your souls!
@christinewas although, a fantasy puppy bowl league.....
@Teripie trust me, id love to take part in a strongly competitive format. But thinking to the times i was a commish, having too many people really complicates things. The decision was not taken lightly but it makes sense.
@denboy Sorry, I missed this post. We are doing a live draft. I hate bots. One of the rules was you have to draft live.
@mfladd Good, only way to go.
@Bogie hey, I see you signed up for the casual league on the official thread. The people here really know their stuff and do a lot of research prior to drafting. Many of us do mock drafts and use programs with individualized scoring systems to generate player draft sheets. I live and breathe fantasy during the season (sad, I know). I really don't want you to have a bad experience with this. Let me know your thoughts.
@mfladd I'd be more concerned about you guys than myself. I take it serious as in, I do my best to stack my team to win. But I don't do the research behind the players, yadda, yadda, yadda. I don't want someone to get upset because I got some player they wanted, and I waste them by not using them to their full point potential.
@MEHcus, @Christinewas, @Teripie, @marklog, @connorbush, @soomass, @capguncowboy, @MrMark, @DrunkCat, @denboy, @Bogie
We are back to 12 teams. (I know it is right, but it sucks)
@mfladd We'll get the other folks in leagues. We will have several officially sanctioned Meh leagues going.
@MEHcus "officially sanctioned" - that sucks too.
Does that eliminate the 4-pt TD question? And are you still thinking half PPR?
@christinewas I am still thinking 4. I really hate the advantage only a few qb's bring. yes, still 1/2 ppr.
But if I can I will make a qb rushing td 6.
@mfladd It really seems like we should be able to just call this a reserved "officially santioned" league. @jont sets it up. The people listed here join. Everyone(?) is happy.
@christinewas I agree.
@mfladd First come first serve I suppose. It's the Meh mantra.
@christinewas agreed
@mfladd https://meh.com/forum/topics/meh-fantasy-football-league---season-2 @drunkcajun, @studerc, @TaRDy feel free to join whichever league(s) suits you best!
@JonT Can I join one of those leagues even though I'm part of the Goat League (since it's unofficial)?
@JonT dude. Already done. :)
@DrunkCat ugh!
@DrunkCat "unofficial" is harsh. I prefer "fully endorsed and supported" like @JonT said.
@mfladd Fully endorsed and supported Unoffical Goat League then. Better?
@DrunkCat Fully Endorsed and Supported Unmehficial Goat League Extraordinaire? It hurts less when it isn't a real word. We can abreviate it as FESUGLE to de-emphasize the unofficial aspect even more.
@christinewas "Fully Endorsed and Supported" Unmehficial Stupid Goat! League
@mfladd FESUSGL is a little harder to say, but I like it.
@christinewas "Fully Endorsed and Supported" Unmehficial Stupid Goat! League (FESUSGL )
lets talk about the draft. What time of day is best for everyone? Any time is good for me, but it'd be nice if I had my coach to help me. (My kid. He's big into FF. Does okay, but likes to gamble on long shots.)
@Teripie Weekday evening is my preference.
@christinewas That would probably be best
as we have both easties and westies.
@christinewas @mfladd I thought evening would be best for all too. Last years was like around 1 central and there were tons of auto crap.
@Teripie auto crap is not allowed here. If anyone is thinking that they can pack their bags for the "official" league.
@mfladd How soon are you thinking about doing the draft?
@christinewas more on that soon.
I was thinking of keeping reserves on the lower end to keep free agency active...thoughts?
@christinwas Do you know how to quickly setup a place where we can share emails and such?
@mfladd No. But I can look into it, if you would like. I could easily create a meh-specific email address (like others have done for contests and the like) and post it here for people to send me their info.
@christinewas If you don't mind that would be great. Thank you for the help.
@mfladd No problem.
Now... Regarding the reserves, how low were you thinking? It may be naive, but I trust that people who have committed to this league will follow through with the commitment to be active participants. Too few bench positions (assuming that's what you were talking about) mean you can't plan at all. And I think excellent FF involves a balance of planning ahead and going with the flow. Once bye weeks start up and players start getting injured, you want a little room to be able to do more than scramble to make things work for the current week.
@christinewas QB's 2, RB 5, WR 5, TE 2, K 2, TD 2 Maximum Starters/Reserves is 16
@mfladd So are you mostly talking about the maximums for each player type, then?
@mfladd ugh... I accidentally made my last reply a new comment. Might as well separate the two topics, anyway. I guess.
@mfladd I sent you some messages through slack (in case you haven't seen them). The short version of what I said: The email address is created and I'm leaning toward slack.
@christinewas got it. Thanks!!!
@mfladd I like ESPN's default roster settings:
1 QB
2 RB
2 WR
1 TE
1 Flex (RB, WR, or TE)
1 D/ST (TD)
1 K
7 Bench
(16 players total)
With maximums of: 4 QB, 8 RB, 8 WR, 3 TE, 3 D/ST, 3 K. Plus, not changing the default makes it easier to set up and easier for people to be crystal clear on the settings. It also gives someone total freedom to be the weird person with 4 QBs & 3 Ks on their bench. I think it's good to let freaks be freaks.
I could see taking it down to 3 QB, 6/7 RB, 6/7 WR, 3 TE, 3 K, 3 D/ST. Anything less than 3 makes me feel uncomfortable, for some reason.
Also, I'm not overly enthusiastic about low maximums because... I ended up with 4 or 5 injured RB's for two straight weeks last season and REALLY appreciated the option of burning most of my bench positions on mediocre RB alternates while I watched the health status of all of my guys.
@christinewas Since the league will be so deep into the benches, maybe limit WR and RB to 5-6 of each per team? Last year, in the Meh league, by the end of the season, if someone got injured, you were lucky to pick up the 3rd string guy -- but he was probably already on someone's roster
@capguncowboy Was the meh league at the default of 8? (Well... probably.) 5 still scares me, but I'm good with 6.
@christinewas 8 rb? I don't want stockpiling to go on. Even my diehard work league limits rb's at 5. understand your concern, but that is what free agency is for. I would consider 6. Not a big fan of freaks in fantasy.
8 really might be excessive. If everyone wants 5, I probably won't die. But I still like 6. (Looking back on last year, the guy in my ESPN league with a bench full of RB's who liked lopsided trades was REALLY frustrating.)
@mfladd Also, FYI... my ESPN league last year had touchdowns at 4 pts for passing and 6 points for rushing/receiving. So you will definitely have that option.
@christinewas your above comment about stockpiling is exactly what I mean. I hate those types and prefer free agency.
@mfladd Yeah. I'm starting to see the light.
@christinewas I left you a msg on slack
I am pretty happy with the default scoring system on ESPN. My issue is with the large reductions given for passing yards and points against. Not a fan of these numbers.
0 points allowed (PA0) 5
1-6 points allowed (PA1) 4
7-13 points allowed (PA7) 3
14-17 points allowed (PA14) 1
28-34 points allowed (PA28) -1
35-45 points allowed (PA35) -3
46+ points allowed (PA46) -5
Less than 100 total yards allowed (YA100) 5
100-199 total yards allowed (YA199) 3
200-299 total yards allowed (YA299) 2
350-399 total yards allowed (YA399) -1
400-449 total yards allowed (YA449) -3
450-499 total yards allowed (YA499) -5
500-549 total yards allowed (YA549) -6
550+ total yards allowed (YA550) -7
Thoughts?
I have minimized the positive and negative points so the most you can get is 3, and the most you can lose is -3.
Stupid Goat! These numbers aren't going to work. I don't know what I was thinking. But I still might play with them a bit.
@mfladd Does the standard scoring include bonus points for particular milestone?
As in, if a RB rushes for over 100 yards 5 bonus points given?
I was in a league last year that had it and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.
Felt odd that a guy that runs for 99 yards got 9 points (1 point for every 10 yards) and a guy that ran for 100 yards got 15 points (1 point for every 10 yards + 5 bonus points for rushing for at least 100)
I don't have a strong feeling either way, just curious.
@MrMark No points for milestones like you describe. The only exception is there are additional points for field goals based on distance. I have also done away with -1 pt for field goals missed. I don't think someone should be penalized because of a 50 yard attempt.

Let's get this done as quickly as possible.
@mfladd I did this earlier this morning.
@mfladd done last night
It looks like I am only waiting to hear from @MEHcus, @connorbush, and @soomass. Thanks for sending those emails, everyone.
@mfladd finished and finished.
I Was just thinking about rule #6. Just imagine a league that rewarded poor play as much as good play. So instead of -2 points for an interception you would get +4 points (Same as a TD). Suddenly Cutler becomes a viable starter option.
@MrMark Any rule that makes Geno Smith relevant is highly unadvised.
@Terpie, @MrMark, @capguncowboy @MEHcus @denboy
I have already heard from a couple of people on this already. RB,s: I that people who stockpile them and then are unwilling to do fair trades. We all know how precious a commodity they are. I prefer active free agency. I am willing to go with 5-6. what do you think? (there is no way I am going with the default of 8.
@mfladd not sure what the #'s are referring to (5-6....default of 8). See, I told you I was a stupid ffler.
@mfladd Since you prefer an active free agency, I would consider dropping bench from 7 players to 5 and not putting limits on any types of players.
Larger the bench the larger priority you put on drafting. If activity is the ultimate goal smaller bench is the best.
Really doesn't matter, strategy just changes a bit depending on the league design. Paying attention to bye weeks among your main starters becomes more important with a small bench as well.
@mfladd Kill those who hoard the RB's! I guess that means I agree.
@denboy we are starting two running backs each game. If we go with 5 you would have 3 others on your bench, 6 - 4 your bench. It means the total # of RB's you can actually own at one time.
@MrMark agreed, I don't mind 6 for wr's..they are plentiful even if the studs are limited, but they can be changed on a per game basis and you can still be successful. RB's are the bitches here. limited number of good ones and they are very injury prone. 5 for Rb's also makes you very selective during drafting.
@mfladd I didn't know you were talking about bench players, now i get it. I'm assuming there will be 1flex position starting as well RB/WR/TE. limit of 5 RB sounds about right.
@denboy yes, 1 flex.
I wonder if my coach, @rareluck has his notifications on. That's the reason for this post.
@Teripie yes, I see all!!
@soomass & @marklog I have heard nothing from both you during this whole process and just wanted to check-in with you.
@mfladd im camping. Ill send my email in shortly.
@marklog No problem. Enjoy! Just hadn't seen you around.
@mfladd i am also camping. do i need to do anything before i lose service?
@soomass nope you are good. we have just been ironing out some of the specifics. Go enjoy and check back next week. But if you have your team name already send it here - christinewasmeh @ gmail .com That way we can get the league finalized. Thanks.
My coach thinks we should eliminate the kicker. Then have 3 WR and 2 RB active.
@Teripie there is precedence for this. I have also heard it said of Te's and Defenses. Eliminating all of them would be boring. With only 3 skilled positions left - QB, RB, TE.
But the kicker question is interesting based on new changes to the rules.
"The long-rumored and predicted rule change in the NFL passed at the owners’ meetings this week – extra points are officially moving from the two-yard line to the 15, changing them from the near-automatic equivalent of a 19-yard field goal to a 33-yard kick. If a team wants to attempt a two-point conversion, the ball will remain on the 2. Essentially, this change is supposed to encourage teams to go for two more, and to make the one-point kick seem like less of a formality."
How long it takes teams to adapt is the question. I have also found some kickers to be as good as, if not better than, #3 receivers. They are both wildcards.
Anyone want to weigh in on this?
@mfladd I am in favor of keeping the kicker.
I also had a league last year with 2 RB & 3 WR instead of a flex. Everyone hated it, by the end of the season. (Well, mostly me and the LM.)
@christinewas yup, I would never do away with flex. Kicker is still viable for me as an long term FFL player, but many forward looking leagues are starting to change things up. But I think I am still in favor of the kicker. You can draft them last and they are easily interchangeable based on matchups thru free agency.
But guess what? we are keeping Rb's at 5.
Also, how did you come to be football fanatic when it doesn't sound like you were raised with it. I have been brainwashing my kids since they could walk. My daughter is a diehard Patriots fan while my son has been talking about the Ravens more - it breaks my heart.
@mfladd There were times last year when my kicker out scored everyone else. :(
I just noticed a typo in my first reply - 3 skilled positions qb, rb, WR.
@mfladd I can live with 5. Can you bump WRs up to 6, though?
The football thing just kind of happened to me. It mostly involved getting attached to specific players (and that started with a handful who seem like genuinely awesome guys). And then coming to appreciate the way all of the specialized pieces work together (I was raised on basketball, where the athletes have to be a bit more... versatile). But the biggest factor may be that my dad always taught me to think for myself. Which includes disagreeing with him from time to time.
@mfladd I'm looking forward to seeing how the PAT rule change impacts the game.
@christinewas He's a good man. And thinking about his TBO unicorn pic still makes me laugh.
Yes, wr's are 6.
Let's get really crazy and play 2 QB's.
@Teripie No. next agenda item.
Can we have a thread a week for the league to keep things organized and manageable? The season hasn't even started and this thread is already a monster.
The weekly thread could be titled "FESUSGL - Week n". If need be we could have a main league thread just for meta stuff.
@DrunkCat don't worry, we will. It is getting long, but I figured we would get some of the details of the league done in this one. I appreciate everyone's input.
@DrunkCat ESPN provides a space to message/ chat, not sure which one.
@katylava Didn't you organize some kind of messaging thingy for the GISHWHES scavenger hunt? I eliminated all those files and my memory sucks, so I don't recall any details.
@Teripie @christinewas has been work on chat space for us. She has looked at a couple of different ones. We will have everything we need before the season.
Can anyone tell me if ESPN does recaps of each fanatsy league game played during the season. CBSSports does and some of them are quite funny.
@mfladd Judging by the fact that I have no idea what you are asking, my guess would be no.
New thread everyone (this one is getting long) Go Here: https://meh.com/forum/topics/the--fully-endorsed-and-supported-unmehficial-stupid-goat-league-fesusgl-
