Unfit for certain situations.

Presenting the latest in style for the active yet fancy lifestyles of today: the Fitness Tuxedo! Exquisitely tailored in moisture-wicking Lycra, the Fitness Tuxedo puts the “suit” in “sweatsuit”. Skip the locker room and go straight from the elliptical at 24-Hour Fitness to the corner table at 21 with the Fitness Tuxedo. After all, if you wear the same watch when you exercise and when you’re dining out, you might as well wear the same clothes!

No? Not buying it?

Just because you can use your smart watch as a fitness tracker, a day-to-day watch, and a dress-up watch doesn’t mean you should. Nobody wants you to show up to their wedding (or funeral) with a sweaty little computer on your wrist.

If you’re going to do the watch thing, do it all the way. Your smart watch for day-to-day TCB. Something dressier for special occasions. And a fitness-focused watch for working out.

This TomTom Runner Cardio Watch has a heart-rate monitor and various tracking and training modes, on a nice big, clear display. It detects your pulse via plethysmography, the same multisyllabic, sweat-friendly way the Apple Watch does: by shining a green light at your veins and detecting when less of it is reflected back by the red blood passing through. That’s how Apple explains it, anyway.

But unlike the Apple Watch, it also has GPS for distance tracking, which means it can track your distance without bringing your iPhone along on your run.

You change everything else you’re wearing after you work out. Or so we would hope. Complaining about having to own three watches is like complaining about having to own three pairs of shoes, or pants, or underwear. Maybe you think you’d like to live in a world where you can go to the gym, the office, and the opera without changing clothes - but we’re pretty sure you wouldn’t want to live in a world where everyone else can, too.

If we’re wrong, let us know. We can have the Fitness Tuxedo in stores by Black Friday.
