So every year I dress up for the kids school, trick or treat, and few of my work places, as well as Halloween at the Zoo. Last few years has been Tigger, Scooby Doo, Darth Vader, Gumby - (full costumes). I think this year I will do the Darth Vader thing again.
My favorite part is going to the zoo and how the kids love the costumes. That makes it all worth while (plus I love the attention ;)
@mfladd My favorite costume as a kid was the Gumby one my mom made. She was really great at making costumes and it was amazing. I could barely walk and couldn't sit without my legs popping up because of the panels she put in the legs, but I didn't care, it was too cool!
@jaremelz I wore that one a few years back and during trick or treat a number of kids were like, "who are you suppose to be?" It was all the adults who were saying "GUMBY!" But I do remember one teenage girl who said "GUMBY ROCKS!"
@mfladd Kids these days! I'm also toying with the idea of being a sharknado. A kid at my son's school wore one last year. Totally homemade and thoroughly epic.
@jaremelz Last year one of the trick or treaters was wearing a red wig, green body costume, and a shark that came up to her hips. I couldn't figure out what the heck, until she told me: Ariel being eaten by a shark. Yeah, my kind of humor.
But if my kid goes nuts and wants to wear it, I'll probably cave. I'm one of those zombie obsessed people, so I have a zombie cheerleader costume and we'll turn my husband's brain hat into an eaten brain. I love Halloween, it's my favorite holiday. I've been Medusa (my favorite), a cow, totoro, and I can't even think what else. It's almost time to decorate!!
Debating what to do this year. Thinking about Charlie from Always Sunny, someone from Bob's Burgers, or Princess Caroline or Diane from Bojack Horseman.
Also I like the idea of going as Olivia Pope (at home) from Scandal with a classy white sweater, giant glass of red wine and bowl of popcorn but I wouldn't try to pull that off.
I wear cat-ear headbands on a daily basis. They keep the hair out of my face and... well, I'm weird. I enjoy the opportunity to leave them on, as I answer the door, without feeling like a freak. (Oh, the lies that make us happy.) So I usually just take the cat thing up a notch that night.
I'm really excited to add to my cat ear collection in the next month. Those things tend to break when you wear them every day. And good ones have been hard to find, the last few years. Still don't own the nekomimi brainwave things. Someday...
Last year my friends and I all went out as video game characters. I'm not really a huge gamer, mostly things that are either casual and/or not really current. I do love me a good roguelike, so I had a black tank with a giant pixely-font '@' in white printed on the front from spreadshirt or one of those places. Nobody had any idea what the hell I was supposed to be, but that's alright. Haven't even thought about this year yet.
@JonT Last year we saw the across the street neighbors in their costumes, and we couldn't figure out what the heck they were. Green pointed hats, red body, and some sort of picture on a disc hanging around their necks. I finally figured it out: they were bottles of Huy Fong Sriracha sauce.
We have friends that throw a barn party every year the weekend before Halloween with themes. People put WAY too much money into their costumes. I went as a Cave-struction worker last year for the "Ice Age" theme.
On Halloween I typically go the easy route and wear my normal costume (With enough convincing I might share pictures). Though, I have enough stuff this year that I could probably pull off a Riot Police. Just need to figure out a cheap way to do a helmet and baton.
@christinewas@becca Fine. It's not that I don't want to share any. It's that I'm lazy and it requires me to log into home PC to find a pic. I've gotta find one I look good in. I'm not like my wife and look good in every picture ever taken.
Here's Prima (My better half). She does not wear her dresses on Halloween. She sits on the couch grumpy that I'm dressed up and having fun scaring kids:
We used to host an annual party, but passed it on to another couple last year - I don't think anyone is hosting this year. In lieu of the party, since most people have kids now, there is a plan to go out in a large group and trick or treat together. I'm not sure if we'll go, because we have a ton of fun handing out candy on our front porch.
Past costumes for me and @humper include: Shrek & Fiona (we were apparently awesome in this, but no one got a picture) Jersey Shore Douchebags
Devil & Death (only pictures are group shots) Perry & Doof (that costume was friggin HOT to be in)
And the house usually looks like some variant of this:
My plan so far this year for costume is something like this:
I've always thought it would be neat to dress up as Miss Molly/Devil with the blue dress, but I think now it's been too long, only a very few of a certain age would "get" it. Obviously, a blue dress. Shades. High-heel sneakers. Alligator hat. Pearls. Diamond Rings. Not sure what you'd do with "sure likes to ball."
I wanted to do this last year but never got to it as I ran out of time. Guess I should start thinking about it again sometime soon. Figured I could go as 'Bill' and use a bluetooth speaker (if only some place sold them cheap) to play the song over and over and over again. It's surprisingly difficult to find white foam in that size in local stores. No luck in any of the arts & crafts or sewing stores. I may venture down to 'fabric row' in Philly before I break down and pay to ship it.
@jaremelz Thank you and thanks for the suggestions. Somewhere in the meh file drawer is me in my bacon costume from a few years ago. I think I have a thing for foam.
@cinoclav I love both of those! Last year I was a cow and my little guy was a pig. We traded off wearing some angel wings. He was a flying pig and I was a "holy cow!".
Foam is great. It can be stacked by cutting and gluing and then painted to become all kinds of wearable sculptures.
Its on a weekend this year so we'll actually be home in time to receive trick-or-treaters. Work has been really bad the last few years; we don't get home until after the official ToT time ends and all we get are the teenagers who mostly wear a dirty t-shirt and call it a costume. This time we may even put up some decorations.
@somf69 YEESSSSSS!!!!!!! We have one too! Our neighbors ask every year when he's going up. We have people who stop by the house and pose with him for pics. My hubby also has a GB costume, plus a pack and trap. Why yes, we are cosplay nerds, why do you ask? :)
I'm married to a bearded fellow and although I'm a woman, we went as Jay and Silent Bob. I was a pretty sweet Jay but hubby couldn't shut up long enough for the "silent" bit of his costume.
@jaremelz I just wish I could find the other pics. I made at least 3 children in the younger rooms cry :( They were scared of the costume at first. Tigger costume was awesome!
p.s. my son is the one in the back with the Ninja Turtle costume.
For the rest of the year when I dropped of my son the kids would start singing the Scooby Doo song!
And I own all these costumes...They are sitting in a closet. I get them sent from china on ebay. But will probably die of asbestos or something from wearing them.
@mfladd Haha, probably, but if you at least die in one of the costumes, it'll entertain someone. All of my Halloween costumes were accidentally donated to Goodwill this summer. It was a bad, bad day.
@mfladd They probably sang because you wore the costume every time you dropped him off for the rest of the year. (Leaving that detail out didn't fool me!) It's hard to let go after you get a positive response to something.
@christinewas I start wearing costumes to pick my kid up from the bus a few days before Halloween. It started when I discovered I really, really liked the cow costume. I wore it far too much. Your words are dead on.
I haven't dressed up in long time, but someday I want to have a Robbie the Rabbit costume made for me (I am terrible at any kinds of arts/crafts/design). I love the holiday as I'm really into all things horror. As a bonus, my husband and I were married on Halloween (because it was also our first date). It is my new favorite holiday.
@becca I wish! My husband isn't into horror as much as I am....as in- not at all. He didn't want to do any kind of theme. I should have showed up in a random costume out of spite. Like as a hot dog.
@sammydog01 I would really love to do one! There was a big weekend long version here the summer before last. If it comes around again, I won't miss it! They do different options for the campers, you can choose what level you want to be scared at.
@jaremelz Here's a video of the one here- last year I was in the big box obstacle. People were afraid of me. Most of the time people don't even notice me, so it was very cool.
For some of us, Halloween really never ends. But this is the month we get to dress as ourselves, invite people in, and terrify them until they wet themselves. Ah, October!

I have a better mad scientist coat (mandarin collar, buttons up the side, full-length) and some LED strips that I'm going to hook to some electronics and a sound system for lightning effects. I also got some "filament" led bulbs and might fashion an LED "Jacob's Ladder" for effect. Now to find some dry ice. Also, will add some 2" glow-sticks to the treat bags. Last year, I asked the kids that if they grew a tail or extra finger or toe, to write that down along with the color of the candy and drop it in my mailbox. Also, I used tongs to dispense them and held a "gas mask" to my face while doing so.
Inspired by @christinewas as Tardis and the tickets I just bought to a pumpkin beer fest on Halloween.
I love Halloween, but I prefer to stay home and hand out candy so I can see the kids in their costumes. I'll usually just wear a mask or something.
@hallmike Is that the angry bird edition of the Ostrich pillow?
So every year I dress up for the kids school, trick or treat, and few of my work places, as well as Halloween at the Zoo. Last few years has been Tigger, Scooby Doo, Darth Vader, Gumby - (full costumes). I think this year I will do the Darth Vader thing again.

I LOVE HALLOWEEN!
@mfladd My favorite costume as a kid was the Gumby one my mom made. She was really great at making costumes and it was amazing. I could barely walk and couldn't sit without my legs popping up because of the panels she put in the legs, but I didn't care, it was too cool!

@mfladd Kids these days! I'm also toying with the idea of being a sharknado. A kid at my son's school wore one last year. Totally homemade and thoroughly epic.
@jaremelz this will be amazing coming from you!
@becca I sure hope I can make it happen. I fear it'll be one of those things I have to wire myself into. Should be interesting, at least!
@jaremelz Last year one of the trick or treaters was wearing a red wig, green body costume, and a shark that came up to her hips. I couldn't figure out what the heck, until she told me: Ariel being eaten by a shark. Yeah, my kind of humor.
I am most likely going to be this..
@jaremelz Is there a link to that costume? I love it! If the price isn't insane I might consider it too ;)
@jaremelz It needs more purple.
@kadagan Sadly, it's ridiculously expensive. I'll be foregoing all kinds of craft supplies for awhile in order to get it.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TO6E0T8?ref%5F=cm%5Fsw%5Fr%5Ffa%5Fdp%5FG058vb06ZR9V9&pldnSite=1
@jaremelz I like it a lot, but I don't $180 like it.. haha
@kadagan Shit! I just saw that. It was $70 the other day. I think they have Godzilla though, and that's even better.
We did Dorothy and the Tin Man a couple years ago
The shoes!
Debating what to do this year. Thinking about Charlie from Always Sunny, someone from Bob's Burgers, or Princess Caroline or Diane from Bojack Horseman.
@becca VOTE Charlie!
@becca Princess Caroline would be awesome!
Shaun of the Dead! I was Shaun
@DaveInSoCal You've got a bit of red on you.
Also I like the idea of going as Olivia Pope (at home) from Scandal with a classy white sweater, giant glass of red wine and bowl of popcorn but I wouldn't try to pull that off.

@christinewas i have a unicorn headband i wear every possible chance.
Last year my friends and I all went out as video game characters. I'm not really a huge gamer, mostly things that are either casual and/or not really current. I do love me a good roguelike, so I had a black tank with a giant pixely-font '

I'm pushing for this for @lau and me:
@JonT HUGE SCORE FOR TAPATIO!
@JonT that's fantastic.
@JonT Last year we saw the across the street neighbors in their costumes, and we couldn't figure out what the heck they were. Green pointed hats, red body, and some sort of picture on a disc hanging around their necks. I finally figured it out: they were bottles of Huy Fong Sriracha sauce.
@JonT is that the New York City guy from the salsa commercial and process Lea?
These are both a few years back.. but I was a taco:
and I was the big head pirate at a pirate party:
I tend to go for the lazy costumes. Last year I plastered myself with "Hello, my name is . . . " stickers and went as an identity thief.
@Bogie I'm not sure how much convincing you require, but... POST PICTURES! There. Are you convinced yet?
@Bogie convincing stare
@christinewas @becca Fine. It's not that I don't want to share any. It's that I'm lazy and it requires me to log into home PC to find a pic. I've gotta find one I look good in. I'm not like my wife and look good in every picture ever taken.
Found an older picture (From maybe 2013?) that I like!
@Bogie If it's okay with her, you could wow everyone with your gorgeous wife in her garb...
@Thumperchick
Here's Prima (My better half). She does not wear her dresses on Halloween. She sits on the couch grumpy that I'm dressed up and having fun scaring kids:
Her picture would get more stars than mine... You people suck
We used to host an annual party, but passed it on to another couple last year - I don't think anyone is hosting this year.

Sorry for the long post...
@Thumperchick don't apologize! Those are awesome.
@Thumperchick Baby arms!
@KDemo YES!!
I've always thought it would be neat to dress up as Miss Molly/Devil with the blue dress, but I think now it's been too long, only a very few of a certain age would "get" it. Obviously, a blue dress. Shades. High-heel sneakers.

@pooflady Dooooo iiiitt! Carry a basketball?

(Not me obviously.)
@cinoclav Have you tried the home improvement places?
@jaremelz Yup. Both Lowes and Home Depot. Nada
@cinoclav Costco or Overstock for a foam pad perhaps?
@jaremelz Looked at foam pads too. This may be my best bet - the standard medium foam. I think the 1/2" would work. http://www.foamforyou.com/Open_Cell_Foam.htm
@cinoclav that looks like the best option. It's a great costume idea.
@jaremelz Thank you and thanks for the suggestions. Somewhere in the meh file drawer is me in my bacon costume from a few years ago. I think I have a thing for foam.
@jaremelz Ahh, found it: https://meh.com/forum/topics/your-best-and-worst-halloween-costumes#542d9a9c29fff8e00a0c8569
Check out last year's thread: https://meh.com/forum/topics/your-best-and-worst-halloween-costumes
@jaremelz That's about the limit of my creativity. All the more reason to envy your abilities. Aww, the pig/cow duo is great.
@cinoclav Well I hope you can make it work. And I expect pictures!
@cinoclav you should look up the local box and shipping company. they should have foam sheets that size.
I'm going to be a wedding guest. My manager's daughter is getting married on Halloween (and no, her colors aren't black and orange).
...That reminds me; I need to RSVP.
Its on a weekend this year so we'll actually be home in time to receive trick-or-treaters. Work has been really bad the last few years; we don't get home until after the official ToT time ends and all we get are the teenagers who mostly wear a dirty t-shirt and call it a costume. No costumes, no parties. We are so boring...
I bought an 8ft tall stay puft marshmallow man for the front lawn
@somf69 YEESSSSSS!!!!!!! We have one too! Our neighbors ask every year when he's going up. We have people who stop by the house and pose with him for pics. My hubby also has a GB costume, plus a pack and trap. Why yes, we are cosplay nerds, why do you ask? :)

@bakeyoural this cracked me up
Ok, I have been trying to find pics of my recent costumes and have been having trouble. But I did find my Scooby Doo costume I wore to my sons school.
\
@mfladd You should have posted this in Show Yourselves! I'll bet you were a huge hit with the kids.
@jaremelz I just wish I could find the other pics. I made at least 3 children in the younger rooms cry :( They were scared of the costume at first. Tigger costume was awesome!
p.s. my son is the one in the back with the Ninja Turtle costume.

And I own all these costumes...They are sitting in a closet. I get them sent from china on ebay. But will probably die of asbestos or something from wearing them.
@mfladd He must get a kick out of dad coming to his school in such costumes!
Of course you made them cry. They awere probably girls, too. Bad man!

This pretty much sums up my house at Halloween. My husband made the mask for my youngest (you can see the blurry boy on the right).
@jaremelz why does this mask completely creep me out?
@carl669 Oh, it's meant to. That just means it did its job. We lean towards the weird in my house.
@carl669 this is why. when she asks you to come in - DON'T!
that will be you on the platter.
@mfladd Aagghh, I love this so fucking much.
Back when I was creative (aka unemployed and in college) I came up with my best costume I will never be able to top.
A.W.E.S.O.M-O
I PEAKED TOO EARLY!!!
i've never gone as a character from rocky horror, so i'm going to do frank n furter as the nurse this year.
last year i went as louise belcher
I don't dress up for Halloween, but I'll be a zombie for this:
http://www.walkers5k.com/
I haven't dressed up in long time, but someday I want to have a Robbie the Rabbit costume made for me (I am terrible at any kinds of arts/crafts/design). I love the holiday as I'm really into all things horror. As a bonus, my husband and I were married on Halloween (because it was also our first date). It is my new favorite holiday.
@ABitterWoman awesome! Did you do a themed wedding?
@becca I wish! My husband isn't into horror as much as I am....as in- not at all. He didn't want to do any kind of theme. I should have showed up in a random costume out of spite. Like as a hot dog.
I received permission from the mister to share this one. Years ago we did a zombie walk with the boys and my friend.
I love this, because he's laughing hysterically, but it looks like he's screaming.
I mean, have you ever seen a more adorable zombie?
We would love to do it again.
@jaremelz Great Pics Jare!
@mfladd Yes, yes they are. And thanks, we really want them to do another. It's so much fun, you have an instant party.
@jaremelz I did a zombie 5K obstacle course (as a zombie, not runner) last year with a friend. This year I'm taking my son too.
@sammydog01 I can't decide which would be more fun, to be a zombie or a runner.
@jaremelz I'm not sure I'd even run if a real zombie was chasing me.
@sammydog01 Super cool!!!!
@sammydog01 also, I luv that freaking song!
White kitchen garbage bag. Put it on. Roll up the bottom a bit. Make a tip above your head. You get it.
Not approved for visits to schools.
@dopepeddler What's wrong with dressing as white trash?
For some of us, Halloween really never ends. But this is the month we get to dress as ourselves, invite people in, and terrify them until they wet themselves. Ah, October!
I'm going to reprise the Mad Scientist from last year; it's great fun to greet trick-or-treaters at the door with a fake Russian accent. Also, I used tongs to dispense them and held a "gas mask" to my face while doing so.
i have no idea what i'm going as. all i know is that i really want one of these on my lawn:
let the nightmares commence.
@carl669 Oooh, I want one!
@carl669 totally reminds me of cyriak.
Nope, need more cute:
I was thinking "Texas Terrorist"
Someone found @Barney already
@zdunklee And I'd make that shot, too!
