In These Uncertain Times
Recently, we sold a thing for washing veggies, and to show how it worked, we linked to a video. It was helpful enough. The product made grand (and, frankly, unclear) promises, so it was nice to actually just see how the thing actually functioned.
And yet, we couldn’t help but cringe, because it was four years old and began with a voiceover saying, “In these uncertain times…”, as it showed a woman and her child afraid to even touch a grocery bag.
We mention this to say: this isn’t who we are. Or, well, let us clarify: we don’t want to engage in that kind of scare-tactic marketing. Instead, we’d prefer to wait like vultures until that scare-tactic marketing fails, allowing us to scoop the product up for pennies on the dollar so that we can sell it to you for a low enough price that our sales pitch can be, “Hey, maybe this will give you some peace of mind. Worth a shot, right?”
That’s the angle we’d prefer.
And yet, on the other hand… oof, these times, amirite?! Like, we’re not exactly running with a surplus of certainty, huh?
To be very clear, we’re not smart. We can’t offer much advice for those out there facing down real, significant problems. What we can offer are a bunch of big batteries. That’s what these are: they’re battery generators that come with a solar panel so that you can recharge them in the sun in case you have a power outage that goes beyond a few hours.
Think of it as a mega power bank, one capable of charging your phone, your laptop, and also running a fan or even your fridge. For $600.
Which, yes, is not nothing. It is, however, way less than you’ll find something like this for elsewhere. And, honestly, it’s the exact amount of money that you’ll be a bit uneasy about spending in the moment. But then, when your power goes out for three days, and you can maintain some base-level functionality without hoarding outlets at the library, you’ll feel like a genius.
So get one if you think you’ll need one. Or, even if you think you won’t. Because, we’re sorry to say, you probably will.
