2-for-Tuesday: Microfiber Sheets Sets

  • These microfiber sheets are made with only the microest of fibers
  • The king, queen, and full sets get 2 pillowcases each (so 4 total), the “twin” set paradoxically gets only 1 (so 2 total)
  • Having 2 sets of the same sheets makes the laundry-day-switchover much smoother
  • And having brand-new microfiber sheets makes sleeping much smoother
  • Model: IYSMICRO (The internet tells us that “IYS” could refer to the “International Year Of Sanitation,” a 2008 push by the United Nations to get college students to clean their sheets at least once per semester).

Consider The Hedgehog

Hedgehogs have roughly the same life expectancy as bedsheets — about 5 years. Yet when their beloved pets die, most responsible hedgehog owners dispose of them in a proper manner. Many sheet owners, however, cling to their tattered linens long, long after their time on this earth has passed.

It may be time for you to take a good look at your sheets and decide whether it’s time to let go. We know it’s not an easy decision. You might need some time together to decide (or mourn).

We’re not saying all sheets die by year 5. High-quality or lightly used ones can last up to a decade. But for the most part, even the most expensive sheets expire in much less time.

Nor are we saying that the sheets cannot be used after being stretched, faded, and pilled. Just as a pet hedgehog whose spirit has passed from this corporeal realm can still be cuddled and given food, old sheets can still be used, albeit in a macabre dance of death.

Remember when you learned that underwear eventually dies? Maybe you were in your 20s and your girlfriend or boyfriend at the time pointed out that the elastic in your oldest pair of drawers no longer held them tightly to your body, but merely draped them over your hips like a renaissance Venus. Before that moment you had assumed that a good pair of underwear should be immortal. After, that you should toss out your oldest undies every so often.

The problem lies in the slow nature of this death. Unlike biological creatures which pass from “alive” to “dead” in a very discrete manner, sheets lose their vital spirit so slowly that it can be difficult to perceive. “These sheets are still good,” you tell yourself, because at no point did anything drastically change. But if you were an outsider inspecting your old sheets for the first time, you would immediately see that they’re more dead than alive.

We’re not trying to hard-sell these sheets. You can buy them or you can not buy them and we’ll still be happy you’re here. We’re just suggesting that sheets should be considered a consumable product that one replaces regularly, like batteries, iPhones, or hedgehogs.
