Well, look what I found on Kickstarter…
26So this is fun… Occasional Meh forum contributor Glenn Fleishman (that is, @glennf) has some kind of fun-looking typographical romp around London planned, and a Kickstarter for a little book that will follow. The Kickstarter page obviously does a better job of talking about it than I would, but I thought it prudent to drop the link here since Glenn’s posts always seemed to go over well here (and rightfully so). Looks like this, too, should be an enjoyable read.

Cool! I threw some cash at it.
Thx thx thx. Love @glennf
@f00l
Pledged! Excited now!
Aren’t you the nicest person in the world! It’s going to be a hoot, and I have a bunch of stuff that I can’t discuss yet because I haven’t gotten it firmed up. Thank you so much!
@glennf

@glennf Congratulations on the doubly successful completion of the campaign!
I’m in! My sister used to be an illustrator for a couple of catalogs (Levninson’s, anyone?) when she got tired of being a draft-broad (her term, not mine!). She was always a font&type nerd, so I’ve sent the Kickstarter link to her as well.
FUNDED!!! Yes? In less than a day?
So cool!
So, everyone, keep pledging, that he can have a really grande tyme across the pond.

@f00l I believe it was already funded last night when this was posted here. No matter, I went ahead and pledged at that time as well. @glennf writes some fascinating stuff.
@therealjrn Yes, I’m so grateful! The larger the campaign comes, the more expansive it can be and the more I can upgrade printing and other details. If it’s big enough or close enough to big enough, I could switch to offset or even another technique for printing…
@glennf So I should upgrade to the printed book from the ebook?
@sammydog01 It’s more fun to hold than the ebook! I’m still looking towards what the final total is. I also have a thing up my sleeve in which I might take a leap to a more interesting printing method and fund the difference by doing more pre-orders of the book later!
@glennf I upgraded. Woo!
Wow, Kickstarter really takes me back–I sent Glenn $$ for his shareware Mac font for “The Prisoner” in what? 1992 or so?
@curtw4 Oh my god! This is everything coming full circle. What’s sparking this trip is an unprecedented exhibition of the designer of the typeface used in the Prisoner, Albertus, which I did a rendition of back in 1990, as no version existed (and none had the Prison “e” in it)! See the campaign for more details, but that’s what this is all about! (My version was called Furioso.)
(And yesterday, I was engraving some Albertus on a Glowforge, because we live in the future.)
I’m in!
Backed! I’m such a nerd.
I’m sorry, I could support a saunter, maybe if push comes to shove, even some meandering. But perambulation? Let’s not get carried away.
@jnanas a light stroll? a canter?
I want to have an appreciation for such things, but I just don’t…
@medz But for five bucks you might develop one?
A fellow type nerd? I’m so in!
I hope you also take and include photos of all those you interview.
[And congrats on the Designer in Residence, sweet!]
@glennf - I forgot to pledge, due to me assuming it was a 30 day kickstarter. Is there a way to order an electronic copy and two hard copies and get some sort of combined shipping charge?
@bdb Absolutely and thanks for asking! I set up a pre-order page, which doesn’t get charged until I ship, since I’m in the post-Kickstarter phase.
Here’s the link! You can add the bundle, then click add more products, and add another hardcover book (and then change quantities). That’ll be the least-expensive way!
(I decided to do a 15-day Kickstarter to light a fire under myself, too!)
@glennf bought 2 hard copies and one eBook
I missed the email earlier. Hope your trip goes well Mr. Fleishman!
@therealjrn England is very jolly and old! I landed today!
@glennf
/giphy jolly old England
@therealjrn What email did I miss? subject or sender would help me find it in my inbox, if it is there.
@bdb It was for the kickstarter backers, mailed Sunday 11/26 titled “Project Update #5: London Kerning! A Book of Typographic Perambulations by Glenn Fleishman”
@therealjrn thanks.
I missed the kickstarter, and bought from Glenn directly.
Maybe @glennf can add me to the kickstarter mailing list? Pretty please? I’m sure you are not at all busy!
@bdb Oh, the emails come from kickstarter. BUT you can visit the page for updates. Update #6 was posted today!
@therealjrn The update was just for backers — I should probably migrate to some kind of email list that combines backers and folks on pre-orders, yikes! Thanks for prompting me!
