@DaveInSoCal It depends on the weight (and distance)...sometimes UPS Ground is the cheapest option.

@StrangerDanger Indeed. Drives me nuts when that bullshit happens...it's nearly impossible to guess which is the major downfall of the exchange. I've built a few back up boxes for this one on the off chance that someone screws up. I also reduced the max from 5 to 3 to lower the collateral damage.

@studerc It's frustrating. Some people get all starry-eyed when it comes to "free" exchanges. I used to belong to a Yahoo "trading tree" group for CD's of old time radio shows. The rules were you would get a cd, make two copies and mail them on to the next two people assigned to you. We had a number of people that always requested to be last but it was no big deal because somebody has to be last right? Those of us who had the hardware and the time to make the CD's would consider it a donation to the betterment of OTR collectors.

Everything was cool until one of the newer "always last" people posted to an OTR USENET group about our little group bragging up how easy it was to get free CD's of OTR and wouldn't everybody like to get some?

Total bullshit. He was called on his bullshit and he tried to explain he didn't understand, he was just excited, etc...the group admin accepted the bullshit story and he was allowed to stay...it pissed me smooth off so I dropped out of the round robins after that.

We had other problems too, one of the members was getting free CD's and then started selling them on eBay...that one tried to explain it by saying he was providing a service to those who weren't sophisticated enough to trade on a Yahoo group.

TL:DR Some people suck.

@juststephen yea, i did a compare on UPS vs. USPS and UPS seems much better for 5-7 lbs worth, but I'm starting to take some of the heavier 'funny crap' out to get the shipping into a more reasonable range.

@DMlivezey I was in line once at USPS and in comes a UPS guy with some boxes and he gets in line behind me. I asked him why he is mailing here when likely he gets a discount through his employer. He says USPS is cheaper than where he worked LOL. I was thinking too bad no video camera as that would have been a great commercial for USPS.

@christinewas I procrastinate on things like mehrican exchanges, so I use USPS Priority Mail to appease the person receiving my package since it usually gets to them in 2 days. If you're sending heavy stuff or too lazy to weigh the package, flat rate priority mail boxes work well. Usually print out the shipping label through PayPal since it offers a 10-20% discount.

@christinewas I like the USPS Flat Rate boxes... the Large box (the square one, not the flat one) is roughly $15-16 (with online printing discount) to anywhere in the U.S. at any weight. You can get a pretty decent amount of stuff in there. My experience is that shipping a box of most any reasonable size/weight outside of your own state is stupid expensive with any of the Big 3 (USPS, UPS, FedEx) unless you have some kind of business account/discount. Naturally, your mileage may vary. =)

@christinewas I did a quick estimate on a 10x7x15 box (or something like that) at 5-6 lbs and UPS seemed cheaper than Priority flat rate, but it's probably a crap shoot, although:

Ha! Too bad I didn't stand in line to get tickets as only 12,000 of the 60,000 available went to the 800 graduates. I wouldn't have had to worry about parking. @ciabelle Don't worry about that. Mine would have really looked inadequate if I hadn't done this. There was a really inexpensive thing that matches my person's stated interests... I have had to sell a lot of my random junk to pay bills for enough months that I have little random junk left. I was going to give this person the a speaker doc I won guessing how many pieces meh smashed one into (was half expecting to be sent all the pieces and some glue LOL), except that it is apple and due to some random thread here I found out that is not what that person has. As a result suddenly my box looked really pitiful. Having gotten a beyond sad (eg mostly trash) box myself in the past, I didn't want to do that to someone else.

@TheDagda I looked up DPO/APO addresses on the USPS site...looks pretty legit to me...maybe even cheaper than shipping domestically! Do they open your mail? Do you have a place where you can store random stuff? Can you send me back a rocket launcher or a tank or something?

I'm not in charge of the exchange or anything but for me personally, I'd take you on.

@therealjrn They don't Open it unless it has "dangerous goods" inside. Sadly, a rocket launcher is out of the question...and a tank would take more than one to three boxes. Not that I actually have access to anything like that.

@pitamuffin No rush. Just wanted to be sure you got it. Too many stories here of evil neighbor children and dickface mail carriers.

@pitamuffin I can understand that, I have it easy though i'm mid move so they ended up at my parents, so I got proof of life pictures texted to me when they arrived. Well easy delivery, not so easy on packing mine when I realized that I had thinned my belongings to prepare for moving already which left me low on random stuff.

@pitamuffin will post on the reveal thread later today, but I need to recover from the slight trauma your and @scolburn inflicted upon me . Or better yet would inflict on others around me if one was to wear the combined wardrobe they would assemble.

@ceagee No need to worry about tracking. I know where it is now. It was definitely extra meh. I will post pictures on the reveal forum when I have a spare moment. BTW, I think the goat ate a bit off the edge of one of the boxes, but thankfully everything remained intact as far as I could tell.

@placeholder I apologize for not posting! In my head I wrote that it was delivered safely and unopened. It was delivered to me indeed and is currently sitting in my kitchen - I've been away and was unable to open it and do a full writeup justice! I will do so this week! Thanks and sorry!!!! :)
