To both of you- I went to woot first and couldn’t tell which designs were yours this week. Your style looked very different this round. Not that it’s a bad thing but I can usually pick them out pretty easy. For the remix’s last week, I would love to see the originals. I think I know what some of them are but not sure.
@Star2236 If you meant last week - mine were different for sure - I combined real watercolors and digital together, what do you think? I really love watercolor painting so thought perhaps I could incorporate them into spring designs!

I really like the watercolor, it brings a different aspect to the shirt that you wouldn’t expect. I love the angry girlfriend (it’s funny) I’ve never seen that one before.
@ACraigL@Kyeh@lisagd It doesn’t take much to improve a bulldog, the breeders have brutalized them for so long, I feel sorry for the poor things! Breathing, moving, swimming, giving birth… Everything is so much harder for them.

My first idea for it was to create a cartoonized version of a mixed breed, but it kept looking like a giant head on a tiny body or vise versa. In the end, I went with annoyed bulldog

I love the I sleep around, cracked up when I saw it. The goodnight one is phenomenal with the coloring. I’ve probably asked this question before but I can’t remember. Do you have to hand draw everything or can you copy and paste stuff from the internet? I’m just wondering the talent of some of these people that have very intricate designs?
Yes, drawing these is a pre-requisite and is policed when possible. Clipart and other found images are not acceptable in general. There are some VERY talented people making shirts over there. Which one(s) caught your eye?

Some star wars shirt, I think it might have been a darth Vader mask with cool coloring that didn’t score very high. I only vote you guys but after learning everything is hand drawn I’m surprised of the simplicity of some of the shirts that get picked. I know it’s basically a popularity contest but there really are some talented people that are very underrated.
The shirt was called deep side of the force, I definitely can’t draw like that.
@Star2236 I know which one you mean. Kharmazero is the artist. He’s exceptional, and has been designing for woot for years. He has lately gotten into AI art, and I think that might have parts of that in there, hence the complexity.
I can’t verify it, but it has some of the feel of the AI art he’s shared with the artist group. And for what it’s worth, AI art is also not allowed in the derby/able to print.

This is self-advertised as midjourney (ai art tool) and is similar in approach to the derby entry. Perhaps he used the midjourney art as a template to draw his own version, but the similarities are there.

@lisagd Did dogs used to dominate? I’m just very much into cats:) I wanted a dog as a kid, but I got a hard “no” to that idea. Then it upgraded to a “maybe” to a cat… and once we adopted one, cats became a big love and inspiration

The owl one is so awesome! Hope your cat windows get back up into the fog of war. I voted for them all. I really like these ones, maybe in just drawn to the two tone coloring.

Ha. It’s a risk doing this kind of design. But it’s a fun challenge for a designer to style iconography and text in a way that’s still pleasing to look at, and have some readability.
That said, I think the “people will stare at my chest and read” sentiment is ridiculous. I’ve never had anyone stop me in the street to read my shirt. I think this design is for people that really like the Simpsons (spoiler) and Grampa’s rambling stories. Like all shirts, this is just a reflection of what the wearer likes, not for anyone else’s consumption. Now, if you want to show it off, I’m A-OK with that

Ha. It’s a risk doing this kind of design. But it’s a fun challenge for a designer to style iconography and text in a way that’s still pleasing to look at, and have some readability.
That said, I think the “people will stare at my chest and read” sentiment is ridiculous. I’ve never had anyone stop me in the street to read my shirt. I think this design is for people that really like the Simpsons (spoiler) and Grampa’s rambling stories. Like all shirts, this is just a reflection of what the wearer likes, not for anyone else’s consumption. Now, if you want to show it off, I’m A-OK with that
