@narfcake I know. It just seems like there are SO MANY Peanuts designs every time, and they usually don’t even make an effort to do a twist on the original images, which are so easy to duplicate.
Fun fact - I knew the man who did the animation for the Charlie Brown specials. He was a great guy; sadly, he died just last month.
@sammydog01 Aww thanks gee whiz I appreciate it! I went through uncertainty with the first one, feeling like maybe it didn’t look right on black as I originally planned, and then thought about heather gray, royal blue, kelly green, lemon. Went in circles before finally going back to black. Then with the second one, I really like purple too. But I’m partial to purple shirts. It’s hard making color choices sometimes!
@ACraigL I was perusing slickdeals (always a mistake) and found a coupon code (melting) for 3 shirts for $17. No idea where it came from but it worked. I got your Na shirt, @jasneko’s jellyfish shirt, and Godzilla eating an Ultraman popsicle.
I have a few now in print from recent derbies if anyone was hoping for one!
The top one - “Watch out for Jellyfish” is on its last day.
(All are currently offered on a v-neck, long sleeved, hoodie, etc)
@jasneko Very hard work 12 hours a day of work 7 days in a row for weeks on end. BUT it was also fun and relaxing to be at sea sailing. It was sort of sad to not be able to see much of the places we sailed to as when the passengers were ashore we cleaned their cabins but I did get to see some things. And we took turns being the person who went ashore with the passengers in case they needed to go back to the anchored ship for something. If we were docked then only one person needed to stay on board in the evening, but if anchored we did shifts from 7pm to 7am (2 of us crew) together as there were only 4 crew, the captain and the cook) of 4 hours on and 4 hours off through the night with 2 hour shifts in the middle of the night.
There was a time we were deadheading from Gloucester, MA to Boston and the engine needed fixed. With the usual sexist opinions I was nominated to drive the ship under sail while the rest of the crew (all male) and captain were below trying to fix it. I loved being the only one on deck sailing. Occasionally smaller boats would circle us and make comments about where the rest of the crew was, not believing a girl with braids down to her waist was alone on deck (If we had to come about it took everyone but other than that it was just steer the course).
Of course we had epics too - like the whale who was eating krill and going under the boat while filtering them through its gills surfacing on the other side (of the bow - front of the boat). A flip of a tail and we could have had serious issues. Or when we saw whales breaching… Or when we were nearly ship wrecked off of Salem Bay, MA in a storm and I spent the rest of the night straddling a boom swinging a bit back and forth sewing 8’ of mail sail rips (we had a morning sail a 9 hour sale away so it had to be done underway. Of course I was young and all nighters like that didn’t kill me the way they would now.
@Kidsandliz Sorry for the late reply. WOW what an experience!! How did you come into this work on ships? Did you already sail when you started?
You mentioned passengers - what kind of trips were these?
What you wrote sounds like something out of a movie or book. Perhaps you should write about your experiences?:)
That’s wild about the whales. How also amazing that you saw them like that (though in some cases in scary ways).
Sounds very intense and exciting and adventurous! How long did you do this?
Dear shirt designers, one thing has come to my attention regarding Woot shirts.
There is only one Badger shirt on all of woot (that is not a Harry Potter shirt). As one of the world’s greatest animals I find this to be sad.
/ Was looking for Badger shirts for the family ahead of Badger Appreciation Day (on October 6th every year if anyone else wants to celebrate… and yes, we do celebrate every year… and yes it is a “real” holiday)
// We have a cat named Badger and I used to go out in the fields at night and watch Badgers during my childhood, so Badgers are special to me.
@Kidsandliz Oh sure, I usually don’t post them but I’ll try to remember to! Unfortunately the prism / rainbow birds didn’t print. But I do have a few others that printed in the last month or so, I will take a look and post!
