Sometimes, all I need is the air that I breathe And to meh you All I need is the air that I breathe Yes to meh you All I need is the air that I breathe
So can someone clue me in as to why these sell like meth at a hillbilly wedding?
My first instinct at an air filter was, meh, but then I read Toon's truly compelling write-up and now I'm foaming at the mouth to buy one of these.... But I don't know WHY?
Why are these so great? Anyone have first hand experience with how an air purifier has changed their life?
I don't smoke, fart, smell bad, or cook Indian food so I don't see a reason I would need my air to be purified. UNLESS y'all know something I don't.....
@pepsiwine Some people think that if you happen to enjoy the smoking of non-tobbaco products in the house, these kind of filters can clear the skunky smells or whatever. Also there may be some effectiveness in reducing the amount of airborne allergens, like dust, mites, dust mites and pollens. Lost of people are allergic to common household dust, so anything is possible. Not saying it actually works. Just that it's likely to be a common tain of thought.
@pepsiwine You know all those skin cells your body sheds constantly? One third of them stay in the bedroom. You shed skin, dust mites eat it, dust mites poop and shed, and it gets so gross you want to move out. I run my filter in the bedroom.
@tsm I choose to eat my non-tobacco products instead of smoke them. But it sounds like allergen filtering could be a compelling reason to get one. I sneeze like crazy every time I mow my yard, so maybe this could help with that. I'll just have to find a way to strap it to my lawnmower.......
@OldCatLady Thanks for yet another compelling reason to get one: so that I'm not inhaling my own skin cells, a la Hannibal the Cannibal Lector. Groovy!
@pepsiwine It's really all about the dust and other particulates... the effectiveness of carbon filters and the ioniser for getting rid of odors is hit and miss. We got two air purifiers recently because we have a cat and I work from home; as a consequence, there's a bin full of cat hair and powdery (human & cat) dander each time we vacuum. Our friends with pet allergies appreciate it. The filters have to keep up with dust continuously circulating into a room, so a single purifier of this sort wouldn't be effective in a larger space. One particularly detailed set of empirical test results of popular purifier models is here: http://thesweethome.com/reviews/best-air-purifier/
@pepsiwine I bought a respirator mask for painting. Tried it out mowing the grass and was a huge relief from allergies. But when mowing the front yard I get funny looks from passers by. Or at least I imagine that I do...
I bought this last time. It's great for taking pollen out of the air. Awful as a white noise machine (bc it's actually really quiet, even on tornado)--unlike my new AC, which is loud and rattly on low.
@shawn Hmmm. Sharpie Magnum might be up to the task but not sure my wrist is. Has anyone colorized this with a Sharpie? Easy or not? What the heck. I'm in (tactful-toxic-thistle). I will hope for a Black Sharpie Magnum, but any marker at all gets you my appreciation for responsiveness to customer concerms. Thank you.
@Tin_Foil I have the larger model in with 2 big litter boxes (lots of cats) and it helps lots. I need to buy another large one to put in the middle of the living room to deal with the dogs farts.
This is rated for an 84 square foot room. That is just 7 by 12 feet. Dorm rooms are bigger than that.
HEPA filters make sense in quite a few situations, but you do have to size it right for the job. If you need to clean the air effectively in a large room, expect it to show up in the power bill each month. It takes energy to move the air through the filters with the tiny holes.
is there even a goat to blame for the fact that I want this and it feels too expensive for my blood? seriously havent seen any goat remarks in days what is wrong with you people?
@mfladd@sp3ar God bless @pavlov because when he is feeling better, I think there is going to be lots of blame thrown his way :) I think it will help with his recovery!
Again impressed by the shipping speed. Decided black spray paint for the front panel. Not sure what to do to hide the glaring whiteness of the rest of it. Artfully draped scarf? Decoupage? Hot glue and pieces of broken bric-à-brac? Anyway, seems to work really well. I am content.

Baby arm buying drugs? For his cataracts right?
Does it also dual as a speaker?
Meh. I bought that other one for $30 and it works just fine. Give me another one at that price point.
got one of these last time. it works pretty good. don't know about a second one.
I can't get past the 84 square foot recommendation.
@VeeDubTDI perfect size for your car!
Could you have at least waited a month before putting this back on sale, or is the warehouse empty?
@armchair we can only hope they are making room for more JBL docks.
@thismyusername MY EXACT SENTIMENTS ARMCHAIR..

@pepsiwine my allergies are making my try this

@pepsiwine Meh needs to sell gas/pollen masks.
@OldCatLady Thanks for yet another compelling reason to get one: so that I'm not inhaling my own skin cells, a la Hannibal the Cannibal Lector.
Groovy!
@OldCatLady ick! I'm ill just thinking about it! Wish you hadn't put that mental image up

I don't know how I could plug my iPhone to this speaker dock, so I'm gonna pass.
@tsm yea no lightning dock... bummer.
Meh. Have cats. This thing would choke and die before it's completely spun up.
@PocketBrain You're not supposed to use those as a portable cat cleaner you know.
ugh. immortal-glass-penguin
It is a pretty quiet air filter. I got one last go around.
I bought this last time. It's great for taking pollen out of the air. Awful as a white noise machine (bc it's actually really quiet, even on tornado)--unlike my new AC, which is loud and rattly on low.
Tempted in spite of higher price and 84 square foot coverage but cannot get over the color. Has anyone taken this apart to paint it? Easy or not?
@Alien we can send you a sharpie. what color do you want?
@shawn a device this big? - might take a box of sharpies to do the job properly.
@shawn the can of spray paint added in the pic was a nice touch.
@shawn Hmmm. Sharpie Magnum might be up to the task but not sure my wrist is. Has anyone colorized this with a Sharpie? Easy or not?

@shawn I'd like a Sharpie, too. Thanks!
There's the old "babies who wear studded bracelets have a drug problem" stereotype again.
Punk Rock Baby Arm.

my little girl had the worst nose bleeds in the world because of i dont know what overnight
on advice from a friend we bought this cheapy air filter and we haven't had a nose bleed since!
I'm in for 2 more - 1 for my son and 1 for our master this thing is super awesome
close the door on a reasonable size room and turn this thing on turbo with -ions and the room is smelling fresh in no time!!!!!!!
buy one and try it in a regular size room not ur house and ull see its pretty friggin good!
@blndfayth allergies can cause nosebleeds, but it might be a combination of dry air too (the most common cause); consider a humidifier?
Would this help with pet odors around a litter box?
@Tin_Foil I have the larger model in with 2 big litter boxes (lots of cats) and it helps lots. I need to buy another large one to put in the middle of the living room to deal with the dogs farts.

How are you supposed to swallow it?
I've been wondering which product would be the one that would make my VMP membership worth it for the month...
This seems to be it!
Having mixed feelings...
@camille Nevermind. I changed my mind. I guess commenting got it all out of my system!
is there even a goat to blame for the fact that I want this and it feels too expensive for my blood? seriously havent seen any goat remarks in days what is wrong with you people?
@sp3ar Due to a very unfortunate accident. We are only thanking our goat this month - https://meh.com/forum/topics/lets-think-about-our-scapegoat-a-little-differently-this-month
@mfladd @sp3ar God bless @pavlov because when he is feeling better, I think there is going to be lots of blame thrown his way :) I think it will help with his recovery!
@mikibell As the May goat, I volunteered to accept blame, but few have taken up on the offer.
@narfcake
99th consecutive meh. Come on guys.
This one is a little small but it works pretty good.
@mick TWSS
7X12 REALLY? Would need approx. 3 in each room and for that reason im a no go ...another 12am wakeup for no reason at all ...
got real drunk last night, didn't buy anything on meh

@tentalces1349
I've been on the lookout for Edsels with no grills since the last offering.
@GeriatricDragon for your clever and accurate comparison, I bestow upon you a star.
The one item that would be useful and it is sold out the following morning. Meh is soo cruel.
@scene that'll teach you to sleep
@scene Recycling my link to a $31 alternative model from last time: https://meh.com/forum/topics/claritin-true-hepa-permanent-filter-air-purifier#555cbad74a329d880b66674f
Well, don't I feel self-conscious.

I like the whiteness of mine. I run it 24/7 and if I'm wheezing a lot I run it on a higher speed when I'm at work. So glad I finally bought one.
I have Ecozone from https://freshairpurifiers.net/bedroom-air-purifier/ in my bedroom and it's a really cool thing! The air is always fresh and it really reduces dust.
