@giroro I despise the fuckers, but the write up is a litigation magnet. They call them "Scum". Minus that one word, it might make it past a jury. As it is, it is an out of court settlement waiting to happen. I can call them fuckers, because 1) they are IMHO and 2) you can't squeeze blood out of a stone (I'm not a lucrative target). But I guarantee a screen shot of this write-up makes Abe's lawyer smile with glee. And putting that aside, I really hate when someone tries to sell me something by putting down their competition. Biggest no-no in any good sales course. Never talk bad about competition, just do / be fucking better than them. I expect better from Meh, especially given the tenor of late. I'm not bashing, hell - I'm a huge fan - but damn if this write up should have never been published. The ONLY reason i can see for it is if @snapster just really wants to litigate so he can introduce their selling practices as discovery / use it at trial, in which case, if the pocketbook is big enough, go for it.
@Pavlov I find it doubtful that a gray market scam retailer has the resources to pursue such matters when they probably spend most of their resources responding to lawsuits against then and ducking the law.
@Pavlov 1) perhaps you're expecting too much from a site named "meh.com". 2) I'm still amazed Abe's has survived all these years since the Internet should have exposed them previously. But since they haven't been exposed, if there is even a kernel of truth to the accusations, it seems the last thing they'd want to do would be to draw further attention via a lawsuit.
@Zelucifer Traducement is a generally accepted form of libel, under which this could be categorized. I'm not a lawyer, but I 1) have actually played one on TV {commercial for a Dutch shoe company) 2) been sued more times than I can count 3) My wife worked for a media clearance firm and she'd talk about work so much I'd throw pillows at her and 5) I've lost a case for publishing less. In the end, I really don't have an investment nor do I give a shit. And in hindsight I would retract the comment. Not my cow, not my farm. Maybe I'll get lucky and this will be deleted in the morning.
@RedOak Back not too long ago, just as a side note - Abe's was a respectable retailer - up through 2007-2008 they were pretty decent and we bought from them - then they started all this grey market crap. The DP we just lost to Disney did business with Abe's 20+ years ago and had nothing but good to say about them from his dealing with them back then - seems like this is a more recent thing with them over the last several years. Hell, if you look on AVS Forums, people are defending Abe's as recently as 2010 for professional AV gear. Too bad, really.
@editorkid I was outside the country for several months on a location shoot in places where Internet access was something more akin to a unicorn than a utility, so I missed it. Like I said, not my farm. I'm not at all defending Abe's, as is evidenced by my earlier posting. However, it isn't lost on me that although these may not be grey market and they may have USA warranty, Canon is going to give you the same amount of shit most likely when it comes to servicing the camera because Meh is not an authorized Canon retailer.
@Pavlov The way I read the write up is "Hi, we aren't a Canon authorized reseller and we won't ever be, and anyway Canon is a shitty company that uses MAP pricing and oh, by the way, Abe's is another shitty company and here's our deal on the shitty camera we bought from a shitty unauthorized reseller" - and it is shit compared to Canon's other cameras or they wouldn't have the damn thing for $333 in the first place - "so now that we have your attention about how shitty Canon is and how shitty Abe's is we're going to use that misdirection to get you to pull the trigger on this shitty deal we're dumping on you without an enforceable Canon warranty and since we're not as shitty as Abe's we'll trust that you'll buy it because well, we are apparently less shitty, even though we're the same as they are and they can't offer you a valid Canon warranty either because they too are not a Canon authorized reseller". What a crock of SHIT. Canon will NOT recognize the warranty on this camera. They'll let you register it but when it comes time to service it they will want the bill of sale and this place is not an authorized retailer. So NO WARRANTY FOR YOU. Meh can have it shipped to them and serviced for a year, but Canon will NOT bench this camera even if you offered to pay them to do it, it is bought outside their dealer network. You say that you can con Canon into servicing it if it is a gift or even get them to service grey market. I've bought Canon for 20 plus years and they won't, at least not in my experience. All this write up is is a magic trick to get you to look the other way while they fuck you just like Abe, just maybe not as hard. But you're still getting fucked and they are still peddling a camera that won't be serviced by or at a Canon authorized service center, ever. Huzzah Meh, you've pulled off a great magic trick and 250 plus people looked the other way and fell for it.
@mehthafucka I've had Canon service both cameras and lenses I have bought w/o a valid warranty from an unauthorized reseller and grey market items too . . . but maybe because we buy tons of Canon and those pieces make up a small percentage of our total gear from them and we have Canon Pro Support - in fact, we have our own dedicated support rep from Canon and he's been known to do a lot of things for us that the average consumer wouldn't probably have access to (like overnighting us a C300 when we had a problem with our's on location). I have no issue with anything you wrote other than only 246 people have bought as of the time of this posting. Not 250+, although I'm sure that a couple monkeys will buy one solely based on your comment alone.
@michaelmhuynh Yes, that's what he/she has a problem with if I am reading the comment correctly - that they want you to try to register and use Canon but when that fails, they'll give you a 1 year. But that it won't be a Canon service center (and in all likelihood, it won't and that is a big deal to a lot of DSLR buyers - just maybe not at this price point IMHO) . . .
@michaelmhuynh That and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee. My point is that it is a worthless promise, and that isn't what it says - even THAT is a magic trick [diversion] what it isays is "And in the unlikely event that Canon gives you any trouble because we're a price-breaking "unauthorized" dealer, we'll cover it with a 1-year warranty of our own". Whatever that means, 364 days from now.
I recently purchased the T3i version. After having a display screen that I can flip out the view on, I don't think I'd use anything else. The camera itself is fantastic for the price. I am no expert, and am still learning, however out of the box, just for a point and shoot, it takes excellent pics.
@lichme What's the use-case for the flip out screen? For example, I might be holding the camera higher or lower and then just angle the screen to still see properly? What have you found yourself doing with the flip screen feature?
@lera Mainly, the screen flips out either way, so you can use it as a viewfinder in front of, or behind the camera. Nice for taking selfie photos if you are into that. Or if you record any kind of blog/tutorial video etc. Use with a tripod to take a timed group photo is also nice.
@Bluedragon07 We still have and use our T2i - very happy with it. And ageed, that $333 price is nice. Felt a bit guilty clicking meh but had to see the face.
I got this for my wife as a Christmas present last time it was up, and we LOVE it!! It's our first DSLR camera, so keep that in mind, but we are VERY satisfied with our purchase!!
I didn't say 'meh' when I saw this, I said 'what. the. fuck.' Not that this isn't a good deal, or a good starter kit, because it is those things. It's just… surprising and weird.
Gah! Why do I have to be broke when a deal like this comes along! I've been wanting a DSLR for a while now, and one like this would be great to start on. Excuse me while I go find a nice little corner to cry in sniffle
@pdhenry Addressed on the main page - if Canon for some reason does not honor their 1 year, Meh will. They likely don't know what Canon will pull because nobody has had that happen yet. Canon should, hopefully, honor it.
One little "i" & I'd probably have been in on this one as a backup. :)
That said... it's a solid camera with great specs & my starter wasn't nearly this nice or inexpensive -- I could definitely think of worse ways to part with a bit of tax moolah!
@modmamajama I agree 100% give me the t5i and I'd have jumped all over it but it also may have sold out before I even woke up so really I'm in no better position
Here is that The Wirecutter has to say about the T5 in their Best Entry-Level DSLR article:
The Canon T5 is just dreadful. Canon has taken the same mediocre image sensor its been using since 2011’s T3i or thereabouts, slapped it into a case with a processor that’s a couple of years old, a super low-res 460,000 dot LCD display, a mediocre AF system, a max burst rate of 3 fps, and a top ISO of 6400. Yeah, the MSRP of $550 is low, but that’s the same street price as the Canon SL1, which is a much better Canon camera, and definitely not worth the $100 savings over the D3300. But you know what? We bet this thing is going to be in every Black Friday sale this year, and will probably move like gangbusters. If you really want, you can still pick up a Canon T3i for a song if you look around, and it’s actually got better specs than the T5 thanks to a higher-res screen and faster burst. If you want a cheap Canon SLR with years old systems, just buy that and save your money.
@sircod The t3i several generations removed from this camera is light years better - the t5 sucks balls. There is hardly an EOS camera I haven't had my hands on in the last 10 years, and this camera isn't worth $333, it isn't worth owning at all.
@Pavlov I feel much better now that I've read this. I have a t3i and while it's not the greatest, at least I don't need to regret not buying a shittier model.
Some day I'll be able to afford a Mark. Some day....
@HELLOALICE The 5DM3 w/ the 24-105 NIB is going to free fall to less than $1800 in April or May - with the new 5D (2 of them) announced, it is only a matter of time. I own three 5DM3's - all of them grey market - and never had a single issue - 700,000 plus shutter count on my main body, 300,000 plus on the back-up (the third is dedicated for video) never been serviced, works as well as the day we bought it. We're doing a lot more medium format stuff, so I am starting to really appreciate Pentax right now, but I love my Canons and always will. Alice, if you want a really cheap camera with a sharp as tack lens, buy the EOS-M with the 22mm prime for under $250 on eBay. Sharper than L glass and a better camera than my 60D.
@sircod Beat me to it (by 7 hours...). Disapointing meh.com would sell this; seems more deceptive than magic Korean light vaccums, if that makes sense.
@sircod this really makes me sad. I was getting sold on it. I even looked up a review on a site and it was, you know, fine. Normal. This review is so different.
Wow. Hubby asked what I wanted for my birthday the other day and I had no good answer. Now I do. But do we have the bucks for this? So tempting to see if I can rearrange some bills. But they did just double my credit limit unexpectedly... So, dare I? Perhaps I should sleep on this decision. Maybe it'll sell out then my decision will be made for me!
I bought this from Woot at a higher price a year or so ago. It's a great camera for someone who is looking to move up from a cheap point and shoot. Yeah, if you're looking to go pro, this is not the camera for you, but if you're looking to go pro, you already know this. Just please, do all the real professionals a favor, please don't buy this and become a phauxtographer making a Facebook page trying to sell your services. The camera is not what makes you a professional. It really isn't.
If you're looking for something to take great shots of your kids at their sporting events or something to actually learn on, this will do it at a price that isn't going to break the bank.
Also, this is one of the first pictures I took with the camera. It's not great, but you can get decent shots on the auto mode.
@PurplePawprints What do you think of the video on this? I need something that is lighter than my camera that will do a decent job at both still & video.
@glindagw Honestly, I've only used the video a couple of times. We usually use my old Sony for video and this for pictures. However, the couple times I've used it, I had no complaints. I just can't really offer a real informed opinion on that aspect.
@givemeyoursoul I wish I could take credit for it, but I think it was coined by http://youarenotaphotographer.com/ Also, I realized that should have started with an 'f' and not a 'ph' but it's too late to edit. :-)
@mcanavino Is it? I'm so sorry. I haven't visited it in quite a while and didn't realize things had apparently changed. They used to have standards....
These fat dslrs are going the way of the dinosaur for regular consumers, smaller mirrorless dslr like the fuji-x and sony-nex are taking over the market and perform great while being easier to use and share photos. If you want one or always wanted one, this is a pretty good deal, however, do some research and see if maybe you would want something easier to carry while still having interchangeable lenses. Or maybe find a fat DSLR for cheap.
Are you kidding me? A day earlier guys.. a day earlier. Purchased a Canon Powershot on Monday night.. I'd have totally sprung for a DSLR instead, for this price.
@brotendo64 You don't even need that much, bro. Just start a Facebook page, steal some photos off of Pinterest or Google Images, say they're yours, and set some prices. If you're lucky, Photo Stealers will feature you and you'll be famous... for all the wrong reasons, of course, but whatever.
@cole Interesting software add-on but if, like the typical non-pro using a T2i (in my case)/T3i/T4i/T5i I am not fully using all the existing features, why would I want to use it? Seems better suited to >$600 camera pro/near-pro cameras and certainly not for the plain non-i entry-level Canons. Just as with hacking smartphones, sometimes just because you can doesn't necessarily mean you should.
@RedOak This camera uses top of the line tech from a few years back. Today's top of the line tech will be in the budget category in a few years. Being a good photographer doesn't require you to stay at the top of the technology curve. The main cool things that come out of magic lantern are the video features ... the hardware is perfectly capable of shooting impressive digital video but the stock firmware doesn't let the hardware be all it can be. Sure, many of the photo-type features really only benefit folks who are actually behaving like pro photographers and those folks likely already have fancier cameras ... but if you're interested in trying some more advanced things out, a no-cost firmware upgrade sure is better than a thousand dollar hardware upgrade.
@Pavlov Focus peaking is interesting, but aside from the limited number of casual shooters who are aware of ML, I wonder how many of those users manually focus. And it kind of eliminates a key advantage of DSLR's - thru lens viewing - since it is only usable on the electronic viewfinder with the mirror up. Geek stuff - most casual shooters would be oblivious. I rarely use the electronic viewfinder to shoot - except when shooting video.
@RedOak True enough and I'm certain we just simply differ in our definition of casual user - unfortunately, most casual users won't ever take the kit lens off the camera body once they attach it. Sad really. For $50 you can buy sharp as tack m42 glass and an adapter and shoot images that will blow that kit lens out of the water. Maybe I should have said "casual hobbyist".
The non-i versions are basically old hardware from previous "i" versions in a new body. In other words T3i > T5 in specs. Always go for the "i" version. At this price, it seems like a deal, but you can get decent deals on used T2i and T3i cameras.
In other words, the product is perfectly "meh", so well done guys!
Upgrading from a point and shoot Lumix. I had buyers remorse when I first clicked yes and then said f-ck it and went back and ordered it a second time. I see a couple of comments saying that it's a shi-ty camera but another professional friend (photographer, not streetwalker) said it's a great deal on a beginner DSLR. My first purchase on Meh. We shall see if there will be more.
@Mudhen This is a very good upgrade from your Lumix. There is so much you can do with this. The lenses you choose will be the next biggest game changer. Spend the money on good lenses and be happier for it.
I hate close up photographs of insects so much. They totally creep me out. (Neither need nor want a new camera which is nice because this one costs more than I can afford.)
Am I first to take a bath in some purple water? C'mon @jont..@snapster.. I'm still reeling from my enormous loss when I was shorted 10 BuiltNY neoprene covers.. My profit margin suffered horribly as a result. In this economy, every dime counts, and lost sales from those 10 covers equated to a whole $1.00 in total resale value for me, .16 cents of which was pure profit.... I could use a camera, but the losses suffered with those cases prevents me from prying open my wallet... :-)
My retiree dad is the shutterbug of the family, using a plain ol' mega-zoom point-n-shoot. I would like to think he'd like having a "real" camera, but too many times gifts I buy him end up collecting dust.
I just bought a Nikon D3300 which is much better than this one for only $460 including all kinds of accessories.
Even though this one is cheaper I still don't think it's worth $333. It's a good deal but its worth it to spend the extra money to get the one that is much better.
@npsantini One could also spend a hundred bucks on a Canon compact super-zoom and take nice photos. Point being, one can spend almost any amount of money on a camera. As an analogy, someone with the money to buy a $20,000 Honda Accord is not likely to spend $30,000 on an Audi A4.
This is a very good deal. I would be all over this if I didn't already have a DSLR, or if I wanted to give anybody a fancy present. But I already have a camera and no friends.
When the Canon came up a few months ago here, I stared at it for hours, and researched it, and finally hit the buy button,only to be told the deal was over. I wrote a fairly well-balanced letter to meh, with the idea being "do you have any extras around?" They wrote me a long letter back with a heartfelt "Too bad, maybe it will come up again, maybe you can wait?" So, I really feel this posting today is for me. Especially for me, 'a little guy with champagne tastes and a beer pocketbook'. A Very Special Personal Post From Meh to Wew. So thank you meh. meh has touched wew in a special place today. And, again, I stared at the post for several hours. Trying to decide how to tell you I ended up buying a refurbished one somewhere else. I hope this won't affect our relationship.
I'm a Nikon user but wanted to toss in the suggestion that if you're not sure about any camera you're buying or interested in, go to Flickr and search for photos taken with the camera. If you like them and think you can do as well, go for it. That way, if your pictures suck, you'll know it's your fault.
@editorkid words of wisdom. You're buying a system. I wanted a Nikon origionally, but there was a Canon deal, so i bought that, and then you buy some lenses down the road, and then you say "Too late to buy the Nikon, I have too much money invested in this."
So... is the goal of the writeup to receive a legal demand from Abe's of Maine which leads to publicity for Meh? Because that seems totally reasonable.
I've had two Canon Digital Rebels in the past, but the divorce lost me access to both. Now I'm considering this one. Hmm.
Bought this as part of 2 lens and accessory package at BJ's for my 20 year old for 549. As a starter DSLR he likes it. If you want the latest tech there are better choices.
Canon EOS Rebel T5 18MP EF-S Digital SLR Camera USA warranty with canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS [Image Stabilizer] II Zoom Lens & EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens + 58mm 2x Professional Lens +High Definition 58mm Wide Angle Lens + Auto Power Flash + UV Filter Kit with 24GB Complete Deluxe Accessory Bundle by Canon $589.95 & FREE Shipping.
So, I'd like a nice camera like this, but I'm unlikely to get additional lenses, or more importantly, change them much on a vacation (where I'd really like to get good shots). What camera should I get? I've been thinking of the Sony RX100, but I'd love to hear what the community has to say.
@dashcloud I have this one and haven't gotten around to buying any other lenses either. Honestly, for good quality snapshots, the kit lens is good enough. I don't really have any comparisons to help you, though.
@dashcloud And, it is "pocketable" (albeit a large pocket), it probably won't call a lot of attention to thieves such as a full size DSLR would and the FPS and buffer on this thing is amazing.
@jimmc100 The Sony a6000 has a quite adequate and bright OLED EVF (electronic view finder). It works wonderfully outdoors in bright sunlight. I'm sorry you missed the EVF in the camera's specifications.
Hello I bought this camera and it has a problem that needs to go to the factory for repair. I need you to please send me a receipt that I can print out. (email removed for customer privacy - TC) Thanks Will

Said it before, and I'll say it again, not a bad starter DSLR for pretty good price.
Libel suit much?
@Pavlov Abes totally did that to me. You can't sue someone for telling the truth
@wanderson24 Nah, it is part of the profit game for a lot of companies such as Abe's.
@Pavlov Scum is an opinion, Libel (generally) requires a statement of (false) fact.
@RedOak Yup - I'm expecting too much. Thanks for the reminder.

@Pavlov count much?
@Pavlov Not the first time the Meh product writeup has torn Abe's a new one. This is actually more restrained than the first time, too (https://meh.com/deals/canon-eos-rebel-t5-dslr-with-ef-s-18-55mm-lens). If that one didn't prompt any reaction from Abe's, this one probably feels like a handshake.
@RedHot Nope, it is a Midwestern thing (and I post drunk).
@editorkid I was outside the country for several months on a location shoot in places where Internet access was something more akin to a unicorn than a utility, so I missed it. Like I said, not my farm. I'm not at all defending Abe's, as is evidenced by my earlier posting. @Pavlov Yeah, I get that (and your earlier comments too). Was just passing along the history.
@Pavlov I think the write up was fucking brilliant
@hippiechik I absolutely agree - but we probably don't agree for the same reasons.
@hippiechik what do you have against "brilliant"?
literary point of view. satire.
@mehthafucka
It says that Meh provides their own warranty right there on the front.
@Pavlov It being a big deal or not because this dog sold for only $333 doesn't detract from my point.
@mehthafucka
And they did sell more than 250. You are truly a prognosticator among prognosticators.
Deja Meh
At least this is good!
I only use Canons. I have an EOS 70D. This model is fine for a beginner. You want something better, expect to pay a lot more.
@BillLehecka isn't that pretty much always the case?
@BillLehecka I still have and use my Canon AE-1
I recently purchased the T3i version. After having a display screen that I can flip out the view on, I don't think I'd use anything else. The camera itself is fantastic for the price. I am no expert, and am still learning, however out of the box, just for a point and shoot, it takes excellent pics.
@lichme i have the same camera. I love it
@lichme Yep :) That's the model I have as well. I LOVE my Canon camera
@lichme now I want a T3i
@lichme What's the use-case for the flip out screen? For example, I might be holding the camera higher or lower and then just angle the screen to still see properly? What have you found yourself doing with the flip screen feature?
@lera Mainly, the screen flips out either way, so you can use it as a viewfinder in front of, or behind the camera. Nice for taking selfie photos if you are into that. Or if you record any kind of blog/tutorial video etc. Use with a tripod to take a timed group photo is also nice.
@lichme Thank you!
Good starter camera, especially for that price. Wish my T2i was around this price when I got into photography.
@Bluedragon07 We still have and use our T2i - very happy with it. And ageed, that $333 price is nice. Felt a bit guilty clicking meh but had to see the face.
@RedOak I hate breaking the "nnn in a row" count.
Good camera, but don't need right now.
Bought the last DSLR deal - still haven't used the damned thing.
@Sparky_Susan That's exactly what I'm afraid of. The price is tempting but I feel like I wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost.
@Sparky_Susan you're a hoarder in the best meh sense.
Good write up.
I got this for my wife as a Christmas present last time it was up, and we LOVE it!! It's our first DSLR camera, so keep that in mind, but we are VERY satisfied with our purchase!!
@kadagan thanks for this, it's helpful
Finally something I want but that is a lot of money for me right now. Sorry Meh, seems you win again.
I didn't say 'meh' when I saw this, I said 'what. the. fuck.' Not that this isn't a good deal, or a good starter kit, because it is those things. It's just… surprising and weird.
I don't need one but thanks for a sale other than speaker/ headphone!
Honest Abe of Maine? Didn't he walk 10 miles to return a dime?
@eeterrific Oh, THAT Abe!
HA. HA. HA.
Gah! Why do I have to be broke when a deal like this comes along! I've been wanting a DSLR for a while now, and one like this would be great to start on. Excuse me while I go find a nice little corner to cry in sniffle
I guess it says so right there, but the Canon warranty is valid if the camera is bought from other than an "authorized Canon dealer"?
@pdhenry Addressed on the main page - if Canon for some reason does not honor their 1 year, Meh will. They likely don't know what Canon will pull because nobody has had that happen yet. Canon should, hopefully, honor it.
@Collin1000 Canon will generally cave, just tell Canon it was a gift. Hell, they'll cave and service grey market if you push them hard enough.
This is a seriously nice starter camera at a nice price backed by a great site. If I didn't have a beginner DSLR already, I would be all over this.
@wanderson24 my thoughts exactly.
$333 is a bit much for taking selfies! You win again meh!
So... anybody want to spot me $333? I promise that I won't be able to pay you back. I wish, I wish...
@Willijs3 Me too!
I would be interested if I wasn't such a conformist.
Haven't we seen this copy about Canon pricing before?
@Yakuman , There was an amazing rap about mattresses that was similar.
@Yakuman I went and looked up the old one and it's different-ish.
@sircod The t3i several generations removed from this camera is light years better - the t5 sucks balls. There is hardly an EOS camera I haven't had my hands on in the last 10 years, and this camera isn't worth $333, it isn't worth owning at all.
@sircod Thank you Sir Cod for your data-driven post. You are a gentleman and a scholar.
@Pavlov thanks for the rec. I don't have $2.50 to my name, much less $250, but if I do, I'll check it out.
@sircod Beat me to it (by 7 hours...). Disapointing meh.com would sell this; seems more deceptive than magic Korean light vaccums, if that makes sense.
@sircod With 'mediocre' being a part of the description, the review was destined to be on this site.
@sircod this really makes me sad. I was getting sold on it. I even looked up a review on a site and it was, you know, fine. Normal. This review is so different.
I legit want/need dis camera
is that an ant from empire of the ants?
Wake me up when you've got a 5D III up on here, fuck.
@PurplePawprints Phauxtographer. Love it.
@givemeyoursoul I wish I could take credit for it, but I think it was coined by http://youarenotaphotographer.com/ Also, I realized that should have started with an 'f' and not a 'ph' but it's too late to edit. :-)
@PurplePawprints That site is NSFW, BTW.
@mcanavino Is it? I'm so sorry. I haven't visited it in quite a while and didn't realize things had apparently changed. They used to have standards....
@PurplePawprints Good site! Nothing terribly explicit (sadly) but a couple of items on current page that might be awkward to explain.
@antsam999 Viewfinders RULE!!!
Are you kidding me? A day earlier guys.. a day earlier. Purchased a Canon Powershot on Monday night.. I'd have totally sprung for a DSLR instead, for this price.
@DarkHuD let your feelings out at the https://meh.com/forum/topics/canon-eos-rebel-t5-dslr-with-ef-s-18-55mm-lens-parody
Meh is getting dangerously close to impressing me. Better simmer down, you guys.
Will this instantly make me a professional photographer?? The majority of my Facebook friends seem to agree (They are all douchebags).
If I hadn't just bought a Rebel XS off of a friend, I would jump on this.
CRAP!! Too much dinero, not enough funds.. I hope this isn't a harbinger of 'woot' to come.. Say it ain't so mediocreboters, say it ain't so..!!
WAAA!!!
Not supported by http://www.magiclantern.fm/ ... for that, Meh.
@cole And never will be . . . the camera is clipped purposefully from the factory, it isn't worth it to overlay the firmware.
@RedOak Focus peaking for the casual shooter is one of the main reasons to use ML.
Not a Nikon So I'll Pass!
@Mudhen You'd have been better off with the other professional, IMHO. At least then you'd have been properly fucked for your money.
@Mudhen This is a very good upgrade from your Lumix. There is so much you can do with this. The lenses you choose will be the next biggest game changer. Spend the money on good lenses and be happier for it.
Bought one even though I already have a T3i.
YOLO
@CowCatcher ...why?
@CowCatcher . . . yolo? kudos.
@CowCatcher I wasn't going to put it in your wife/girlfriend/mothers butt........but...... YOLO.
I hate close up photographs of insects so much. They totally creep me out. (Neither need nor want a new camera which is nice because this one costs more than I can afford.)
@Pamela Same here. Bugs are small for a reason: so we don't have to see how gross they are.
"If you knew then what you know now..." Com'n, you'd still take the money...you might just feel a little worse for us in your goodbye speech.
The blog post that went with this was so good that if I had a spare $333 I'd buy a camera just as a round of applause.
So much want, not enough dough. Ugh.
Does this Deal work with one of the Canon rebates that are being offered right now?
@etherium I'd say no. Part of the rebate thing is to be a sneaky sneak that spys on retailers to see what people actually paid for something.
http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T5-vs-Nikon-D3300
@squilly That's a good side-by-side comparison.
@glindagw And the D3300 apparently blows this out of the water
@squilly You're also looking at 50% more money with a comprable lens for the D3300.
@MrMark The T5 comes with the same (or similar) 18-55 as the D3300, no?
@squilly T5 new with lens $333, D3300 new with lens $500. So while D3300 is better it cost 50% more.
@squilly: @MrMark is correct. That $429 D3300 price on the page you linked is a refurb. The going price for the D3300 looks to be $500.
Who would have thought a camera would bring out so much hostility in people,,,,,,
As a Mainer (or Maine-ah) I despise Abe's of Maine. He's a fucking lowly despicable piece of shit.
Maybe if you bundled a speaker dock with it....?
My retiree dad is the shutterbug of the family, using a plain ol' mega-zoom point-n-shoot. I would like to think he'd like having a "real" camera, but too many times gifts I buy him end up collecting dust.
MAP. Makes me want a Belkin BT Keyboard.
I just bought a Nikon D3300 which is much better than this one for only $460 including all kinds of accessories.
Even though this one is cheaper I still don't think it's worth $333. It's a good deal but its worth it to spend the extra money to get the one that is much better.
@npsantini apples vs oranges. As @MrMark mentioned above, the going price for the D3300 is $500, 50% more than this meh deal.
@RedOak I'm just saying I wouldn't waste the money on this camera even though it is a lot cheaper than what it normally sells for.
Just got a new Iphone 6... had I only known this deal was coming...
When the Canon came up a few months ago here, I stared at it for hours, and researched it, and finally hit the buy button,only to be told the deal was over. I wrote a fairly well-balanced letter to meh, with the idea being "do you have any extras around?" They wrote me a long letter back with a heartfelt "Too bad, maybe it will come up again, maybe you can wait?"
So, I really feel this posting today is for me.
@wew They touched you in your special place? That's not right. You should talk to someone.
@clarinetbob It's okay, we're all consenting adults here.
Bath (2nd)...
@wew umm yeah that would be sunk costs and switching costs… dang they got us LOL
So... is the goal of the writeup to receive a legal demand from Abe's of Maine which leads to publicity for Meh? Because that seems totally reasonable.
I've had two Canon Digital Rebels in the past, but the divorce lost me access to both. Now I'm considering this one. Hmm.
Bought this as part of 2 lens and accessory package at BJ's for my 20 year old for 549. As a starter DSLR he likes it. If you want the latest tech there are better choices.
Oooh just noticed my special badge...cool
i'm just here so i don't get fined.
@carl669 I'm here because someone said there would be nachos.

This is the best product to follow and photograph ISIS in the Middle East!!!
@digital_one Holy shit dude.
@digital_one Great idea! why don't you fly over there and show us how it's done! I'll pour one out for you when you are beheaded.
@Pavlov I'm not offended, and I can recognize and appreciate even the darkest humor, but this comment before wasn't funny.
@er1c Mine? I'm lost man, I'm almost a 12 pack in and I chased it with tequila - been a long fucking day. Catch a brother up.
It's 2015. Time to go mirrorless.
@dashcloud If you like Sony, for my money I'd go with the a6000 and the PZ compact lens. It may well be the best mirror-less camera on the market today and Sony is letting them go for cheap. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Alpha-Interchangeable-Camera-16-50mm/dp/B00I8BICB2
@dashcloud And, it is "pocketable" (albeit a large pocket), it probably won't call a lot of attention to thieves such as a full size DSLR would and the FPS and buffer on this thing is amazing.
@Pavlov Wow...and no EVF making it all but impossible to shoot in bright sun
@jimmc100 The Sony a6000 has a quite adequate and bright OLED EVF (electronic view finder). It works wonderfully outdoors in bright sunlight. I'm sorry you missed the EVF in the camera's specifications.
The EVF is plainly visible in the above image.
SLOW CLAP GIF that I'm too lazy to find and post.
@austinstorm
Hello I bought this camera and it has a problem that needs to go to the factory for repair. I need you to please send me a receipt that I can print out. (email removed for customer privacy - TC) Thanks Will
@rockitman posting on the forum generally doesn't grab our CS folk's attention. If you'd like to write them specifically, go to https://meh.com/support.
Or.... you can go to the My Orders (https://meh.com/orders) page and find all your order information there. You can use that as a proof of purchase.
