@nolrak I’m not so sure… The Amazon product listing refers to them as “unexpected 57mm ultra-large dynamic drivers”. So you may surprise people instead.
@lichme I also almost bit based on your recommendation, but also checked the Amazon reviews. Three things kept me from pulling the trigger, in order of increasing important.
They are extremely bass heavy, reportedly to the detriment of mid-range and treble. Great if you’re cranking up the hip-hop (Apparently not necessary as these are plenty loud on even the lowest volume setting) Not so great for listening to podcasts.
They leak sound a lot. Anyone within a few feet of you is going to hear your stuff. Kinda defeating a key purpose of headphones.
3, They aren’t very durable. Reports of the charging port becoming dislodged, buttons becoming stuck, or even the headphones breaking if one’s head is a bit bigger than average (as mine is) is giving me unpleasant memories of my first meh purchase - the TOCCs headphones which lasted maybe a couple weeks before falling apart.
@ciabelle@lichme yeah, all the pictures of broken bands and reports like, “They broke while I was washing dishes,” scared me off. It also seemed difficult to get warranty service.
These things, as stated above, are actually pretty great. For the price, they are fairly amazing. I have a few pairs laying around strategically for random use.
Too late. I just recently bought TaoTronics TT-BH040 Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones on a Amazon deal for $35.
The noise cancelling isn’t great, but the sound is very good for the money!
@mfladd Same, except I bought Mpow H5 Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones for $40. I think it was a deliberate choice over the TaoTronics, because these ones also have a regular 3.5mm jack that supersedes the bluetooth if connected (and it was unclear whether the TaoTronics had the same), which means I can use bluetooth for long-distance audio like from the TV, and not-bluetooth for other, closer devices, thus avoiding the horrors of trying to re-pair bluetooth devices.
Turns out the active noise canceling is unnecessary (maybe short of being on a plane) because they’re pretty impressive at passive noise blocking. So maybe these cheaper ones would have been just as good for my purposes, if only they’d been presented a week earlier.
@shahnm So the write up contradicts itself. It says “Although you can buy an additional cable to plug it directly into devices.”, but additional specs says it includes a 3.5mm aux cable. This is the cable you need to directly plug it into devices, and was indeed included with the ones I bought on Morning Save.
@shahnm I’m testing the wired feature for you now. It sounds good. I use the wire with the private listening on Roku since it has less lag than Bluetooth.
Huh, I thought the shooting brake thing was a weird copy/paste failure, but the Amazon listing has a picture of the box, which does indeed have ‘shooting brake’ printed on the front. My guess is that since station wagons basically don’t exist anymore, China decided to recycle that character to represent ‘bluetooth headphones’ instead, and Google Translate hadn’t been updated before this copy was finalized.
@Kerig3 …Ditto… though that does help explain why the station wagon style is called a “break” in France… ( officially it’s break de chasse but that term has been truncated now.)
@pmarin I’ve owned a VW Golf before. Fun to drive, but didn’t last very long and parts/service are still very expensive. I wouldn’t recommend. Personally I also think the interior styling is a bit too spartan compared to others in that price range. If I was to buy new at that pricepoint I would look at the Mazda 3. You get a lot of standard tech options & a luxurious interior for around that same price.
@Hanky@nolrak There’s an old wives tale that the black ones are somehow more functional. They may or may not be able to hit those deeper spots of bass.
@Hanky Probably because of all that I unnecessary text molded into the plastic doesn’t show up as much in the black color. That text is one reason why I didn’t care for this style. Do I really need to broadcast that my headphones are BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES and HURRICANE TURBINE and Ø57 Driver?
Which brand of these did Meh sell last year? The part number should be RiceCrispies for all the snap, crackle, and pop. A Meh product bought at a Meh price.
@elliedan Thanks for the info! Non folding would’ve been a deal breaker for me if they hadn’t sold out because I have a similar pair that do fold up, which makes storage easy.
I bought these Bluedios like a year or two ago for listening when I mow lawn, snowblow and do my im-a-dad outside work. I have to say these are fantastic. The battery life is OUTSTANDING. Ive maybe charged them a half dozen times in 2 years and they stay outside in the garage in the cold and dont lose charge. The sound is typical of Bluetooth headphones so I’ll be gobbling up one at 11am
Just to make sure I understand, these also allow me to plug into a 3.5mm cable and listen wired, right? Does the battery continue to be used while it’s plugged in that way? Are there any horse socks?
On Black Friday 2016, I bought a similar pair by the same company for a White Elephant exchange. They were $20 just for Black Friday. At the exchange, I ended up keeping them instead of having to trade them for something else by the luck of the draw.
This turned out to be the best damn thing.
I use them every winter as headphones that double as earmuffs. They’re pretty comfortable with the padded ear pieces, though mine are fairly heavy - these seem to have plastic where I have metal in some places, so should be much lighter. The battery life is fantastic, though I admit I usually use them wired, and connecting a 3.5mm with inline mic works perfectly without using battery. (Hey Meh - could you sell some cables like this, 3.5mm with the inline mic? These always get busted for me first and I’d like some spares from a non-Amazon source.)
Three winters later, they’re still in nearly perfect condition, so I won’t be buying these for myself - not bad for “cheap” headphones. If I wasn’t low on just-for-kicks spending money this month I’d consider getting an extra pair to compare and/or for future gifting. Hopefully they’ll come around again in the future, and/or Meh will keep getting stock from Bluedio, because I’ve come to trust the company after years of using these cans.
@nk5llc and Amazon usually have Bluetooth headphones going on sale below $20 that do fold for better portability and you have the convenience of returning it within 30 days if you’re not happy with it.
I wonder if there is a clever way to proactively reinforce where they typically break? I’d rather try to keep them from breaking in the first place than to try my non-existent MacGyver skills.
When to purchase these 4 times over past 12.5 hours while traveling on 2 planes and sniffed out every single time. So glad I pay for free shipping when get skunked like this.
I’ve been rocking the Que headphones on an every day basis for about a year and half. Had to tape up the headband but it still works! Not a bad deal for $20. Hoping I get the same lifespan out of these.

Interesting spread throughout the day 35% / 60% / 5%
Wonder if that’s typical?
Mine arrived, and the box for my black pair is what you’d expect to find in a discount store, and the white pair was a cardboard refurbished looking box. Charging them now, I’ll report back on how well they work.
They sound awesome. I turned them up and I am genuinely vibrating my skull with this particularly bass heavy track.
They work halfway across my house, and the reason it isn’t further is more likely the house than the range. It’s far enough that I can go refill my coffee without losing a song.
I did try a call with them, but was told there was an annoying sound of some sort whenever I talked that made my wife mad at me to the point she wanted to hang up on me. I am not entirely convinced this was something on the headphones themselves, so I called my daughter and listened to it myself. There is horrible noise like you are talking to a WWI pilot mid-flight.
It’s still a win as far as I am concerned, since I wanted them mostly for music. They sound better, paired easier, and are more comfortable than the last set I bought from Meh.
@LexPendragon@RascalMJ Both boxes had the sticker. One sticker was cut down the middle and the other had one side unattached. I ignored both. I also ignored the directive to use the scratch-off code to register the headphones.
I like the sound of mine, but bought it as a headset + microphone. When paired with my iPhone, it does not work except to listen to audio, not for calls. Same thing occurs on my iPad. It’s pairing strictly as headphones, not as a headset with microphone. Anyone experience this, and have any luck resolving it?
@fargonia Following up: I just tried it on my Windows 10 laptop, and it paired correctly as a microphone+headset, so this is some kind of iOS incompatibility mess.
@fargonia if you restart windoz with the headphones active they open as audio headphones. If you connect after windows is started they connect as a hands free headset. or t least that’s what happens on my hp workstation.
@Stumpy91 they have little scratches all over them. You would think the shiny parts would have plastic film over them for protection. Almost seems like repackaged used items. I may be wrong. Just saying.
@dam091 Mine look really good. Shiny. I’m a lot happier than I was with the Gabba Goods Metallix that I got in my April Fools Day IRK. They wouldn’t charge or power up.
@dam091 nope. They were advertised as new. As far as the one’s in my IRK that didn’t work, it can be expected in an IRK but they were brand new in s sealed box.
I don’t know about you guys, but these are definitely on-ear rather than over-ear for me. I consider myself to have an average-sized head and these feel pretty tight with the headband fully extended. GF has a smaller head and these fit her perfectly though, so YMMV.
@dcm714 I agree. That’s why I asked the question earlier. They didn’t look big enough to be over the ear. I was hoping more users that owned them would chime in.
the best set of wireless speakers I have owned. Ea buds dont work for me. These have made my wife and life alot better since now she can sleep and I can watch my TV
These are pretty decent. However, i’m having some weird connection issues. While watching videos they will randomly “lock up” my video (it just continually loads for a while) then the headset starts saying device disconnected and ready to pair… I have to open bluetooth settings and reconnect it manually. happens all the flipping time. makes these kind of useless and annoying sadly

@nolrak I’m not so sure… The Amazon product listing refers to them as “unexpected 57mm ultra-large dynamic drivers”. So you may surprise people instead.
Why is the invisible man hiding his face?
@rtjhnstn So you can’t see him, duh.
@rtjhnstn because he’s embarrassed to wear this.
I have a black pair of these. Battery life is great, they are pretty comfortable, and they sound better than average, especially at this price.
I literally just spent 4 hours trying to find a pair of headphones I lost (they were under the bed for some reason)
You should buy these.
@lichme I just bought them on your recommendation. Thanks!
/giphy wrecked-frightened-airplane

@DaveInSoCal @lichme
Me too. Thanks!
@lichme I also almost bit based on your recommendation, but also checked the Amazon reviews. Three things kept me from pulling the trigger, in order of increasing important.

Monoprice, eg, has less bass heavy, but seemingly much more durable over the ear Bluetooth 5 phone for $20 before shipping. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=33397
So I’m out.
/giphy shark tank

Damn it! I literally just paid like $7 more on Morning Save.
@dalekjoe At $15 guess I can use 3 more. A backup for when I inevitably wear these out like I did my 808s and 2 as Chrismas or birthday gifts.
/giphy mf button

These things, as stated above, are actually pretty great. For the price, they are fairly amazing. I have a few pairs laying around strategically for random use.
No TF slot, no sale. What’s the use of 40 hours of music if my phone doesn’t last that long?
@Willijs3 Have you managed to miss every time they’ve sold external batteries?
@dalekjoe
Silly question.
@Willijs3 Silly Question was indeed the goal.
Too late. I just recently bought TaoTronics TT-BH040 Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones on a Amazon deal for $35.

@ravenblack I had to check after you talked about the jack - the TT has it also.
@mfladd They are a really good buy.
Give me wires or give me death! Or on second thought, that seems like too steep a price. But yeah. Just give me the wires… Please.
@shahnm These literally include the wire.
@dalekjoe Let me explain something to you. Shut up…
Guess I should have read the specs a bit more closely…
@shahnm I’m testing the wired feature for you now. It sounds good. I use the wire with the private listening on Roku since it has less lag than Bluetooth.
Would these be as disappointing as the Polk Audio headphones I bought here years ago?
That was my first Meh purchase … and they were very meh indeed.
@TheFLP If they are, we know who to blame.
@TheFLP Are you actively shopping for very disappointing headphones?
You belong here…!
@shahnm
Not really. I have a pair of Bang & Olufsen headphones that I absolutely adore, so I have to look elsewhere for my disappointment.
With all these electronics I’ll be able to bring back RadioShack.
@Abyssrea the original Mehness returns.
@Abyssrea Yes, looking for deals on “Tandy” and “Realistic” brand products. Oh yeah, also “Micronta.”
Huh, I thought the shooting brake thing was a weird copy/paste failure, but the Amazon listing has a picture of the box, which does indeed have ‘shooting brake’ printed on the front. @Kerig3 …Ditto… though that does help explain why the station wagon style is called a “break” in France… ( officially it’s break de chasse but that term has been truncated now.)
@Aspirant_Fool Yeah, I had no idea what that was. But @Kerig3, that Volkswagen in the ad actually looks pretty nice!

@Kyser_Soze i stared at this gif for far longer than was in any way reasonable
@Kyser_Soze Huh. “Pigeon Has a Conniption” must have been one of the less popular books in the series…
Why are the black ones priced higher at Amazon?
@Hanky algorithms
@Hanky i have any number of wildly inappropriate responses to this, but none that are in any way helpful
@Hanky @nolrak There’s an old wives tale that the black ones are somehow more functional. They may or may not be able to hit those deeper spots of bass.
@Hanky Racism?
@Hanky No, just color favoritism. People like the black ones better, without any particular rhyme or reason.
@dalekjoe @Hanky
Please check your privilege.
@therealjrn Good idea, it’s too large to carry on. /s
I can’t decide if you’re being a smart ass, trolling, or you’re actually somebody taking the Internet too seriously again?
@dalekjoe Teasing.
@Hanky @Kerig3 Personally white electronics frequently turn various shades of yellow to gray in short order… YMMV.
@chienfou @Hanky @Kerig3 Plus black just looks cooler.
@chienfou @Hanky @Kerig3 “Personally” white? The mind boggles.

@hchavers
These QFXs?
Anyone care to place bets on how long it takes for the first complaint about the plastic breaking?
@cinoclav too late
@hchavers Y’know, on the delivered ones.
These look more like on ear than over ear headphones.
@Stumpy91 Mine with really similar ear cups are definitely over ear, but my ears might be considered relatively small.
I just 3D printed my own headphones, love them!
I OWN THESE!
Also, I love them. I’ve had them for a few years now, and my only complaints are:

Mine arrived, and the box for my black pair is what you’d expect to find in a discount store, and the white pair was a cardboard refurbished looking box. Charging them now, I’ll report back on how well they work.
Nevermind, I am not that patient.

PANS! GLANDS! CRAYONS! AWESOME!
Oh, I forgot to post the box picture.
@LexPendragon Both my black pairs were in boxes like the one pictured on the right. My wife and I are impressed so far, both wired and bluetooth.
@LexPendragon did your boxes have a sticker that said “Do not accept if seal is broken”?
@RascalMJ Yes. The seal was not broken, but the sticker wasn’t attached, either. I was already wearing the headphones before I noticed it.
A few days of use, and I think “Over Ear” may be a bit too generous, and “Tightly Pressing Your Ear To Your Head” may be more accurate.
@LexPendragon @RascalMJ Both boxes had the sticker.

@cranky1950 thanks. Yes, works in Windows but not on my iOS devices. iPhone and iPad only recognize it as headphones.
@cranky1950 @fargonia did you ever find a solution for this?
@cranky1950 @dam091 I’m sad to say I did not, but I also didn’t try very long. These have been relegated to a Windows PC only.
Is it just me, or do these seem a little… used?
@dam091 Both my pair seem new. That being said the boxes weren’t sealed.
Everything that goes wrong today was definitely part of the plan.
@Stumpy91 well, yeah, that’s clearly worse than some light scratches. But I don’t think it ever said that these might be less than new, did it?
@dam091 nope. They were advertised as new. As far as the one’s in my IRK that didn’t work, it can be expected in an IRK but they were brand new in s sealed box.
I don’t know about you guys, but these are definitely on-ear rather than over-ear for me. I consider myself to have an average-sized head and these feel pretty tight with the headband fully extended. GF has a smaller head and these fit her perfectly though, so YMMV.
@dcm714 Came here to say this. DEFINITELY on-ear and not over-ear. I would not have bought them if I knew that, but will see how they do.
