@narfcake Do you think it would accept the Brother tape cartridges?
I’m wondering if I’d be able to continue using this if their branded tape becomes unavailable.
@ArmchairGamer@narfcake
I was wondering the same thing.
I have a metric s*** ton of non-OEM label cartridges that I have bought for my Brother labeler. At this price I’d be willing to throw one or the other into the shop to keep it dedicated for that use.
Not sure how the Brother IDs what size labels it is using. I do know I have 6, 9 and 12 mm tapes.
Guess I’ll sit on this for a bit and think about it.
This is what AI says when I was searching for a answer to your question…
No, standard Brother TZe cartridges are not interchangeable with the EazeID D480BT. While the cartridges look nearly identical in shape, the EazeID D480BT requires proprietary BZ-type tapes that include a specific RFID chip.
Maybe I’ll gamble on it and keep this as a dedicated 3/4 inch tape printer if they don’t work. My Brother tops out at 1/2”. Guess I could order a batch of 3/4 inch tapes to guarantee compatibility into the future for at least a little while if the TZe tapes don’t work…
Kind of tempted because of the possibility of multiple lines (up to 5, per write up). I’m limited to two on the 1/2” tapes for my Brother.
/eightball do I need another label printer? Yes definitely
Well your AI is definitely more detailed than mine was, I didn’t get any pictures or charts! Lol
And of course it ALWAYS says that there’s a possibility they aren’t 100% correct with ANY of their responses. THAT kinda gives them the go-ahead to say just about ANYTHING doesn’t it…
Good luck with your choice, I’d do what you’re thinking, buy extra refills and at least use it for a while!
I want one myself but I don’t think I’d use it enough to make it worth it. I’ve gotten along without one for this long… And it’s something else for my guy to move and misplace! …
@ArmchairGamer I just looked on Amazon and it specifically says that Brother cartridges won’t work in it, but that their carts will work in Brother Printers.
@ArmchairGamer@jfsiv
Thanks. I may go ahead and bite the bullet and hope for the best. Having the option to have 3/4-in multi line labels might come in handy. Trying to organize my shop and all our canned good supplies from the garden yields.
20 bucks isn’t a bad deal. Especially since you can Bluetooth it to a phone / tablet/computer, or hardwire it via USB. If the software is halfway decent it might be worthwhile.
I guess the question would be what their computer software looks like. Is it downloadable, or is it an app driven software. WINDOWS / IOS / Android?
AT ANY RATE I THINK I’M GOING TO DIVE IN…
@pakopako
Only problem with that is I don’t have any 3/4 inch tape. I would have to buy the bz tape in the sizes I have in the tze… probably not cost effective

@chienfou Following up from yesterday, Brother uses these switch pins to determine the label size via a combination depressed by the cartridge.
For this unit, I’m not sure if there are any BZ cartridges on sale at Amazon right meow. When I looked yesterday, $4-5 each was the going rate, which is 3-4x the price of generic TZe cartridges.
Read some of the reviews over at the 'zon. Turns out if you’re using the built-in keyboard there’s no provision for an apostrophe unless you dig into the symbols menu. That’s a bit of a PITA.
I don’t really care about the apostrophe, but I don’t want to buy a whole bunch of new tape cartridges and I noticed that I didn’t see any black with white lettering as an option for their cartridges which is what I use all the time. I’m in IT and I need to label computers and equipment and white on black is the only thing that really works.
I hate my brother labeler though. It sucks batteries like crazy so I have to keep the batteries disconnected. I used to have a cord to plug it in but that died. And trying to set the fonts from within the labeler is actually a real pain. . I do need a new labeler and the price point is good, I suppose it might be worth it to get something I could just print from my phone.I don’t know I’m torn.

Looked up what label cartridges this uses, and this pic was among those on their own site:

Looks like a Brother TZe cartridge otherwise but with a DRM chip.

@ArmchairGamer @chienfou There are a series of pins under one of the corners and the combination determines what tape size it is.
@ArmchairGamer @narfcake @Lynnerizer
Well, crap.
Which AI should I believe?

@Fuzzalini Nope, they don’t make black or colored labels and I don’t like being tied to their brand in case they go bankrupt. Even for $20
