This is the Mehrican Exchange pay it forward FUKU FOR BABY campaign
As most of you know studerc is the organizer of the Mehrican Exchange. He and chaoscatapult are having a baby girl in May, their first. He is a broke school teacher who buys crap here to give to his school kids.
Well I have his address (received a Mehrican box from him last time). Ha! Bet that is the last time he will include his address on anything.
I was thinking we could fuku his house with gently used or new infant and toddler things, babies/toys R us gift cards… baby and toddler (they do grow out of stuff way way too quickly) gifts (clothes, toys, books, whatever), parent OMG what have a done I made a baby sanity gifts, whatever tickles your fancy.
If you want to join in the fun email me at fukuforbaby@yahoo.com and I will send you his address.

On line baby shower! What fun!
The email I have created for this has been hacked or something and I am now locked out. DO NOT USE fukuforbaby. I will create another one and post it in just a minute.
NEW e-mail SINCE I AM NOW LOCKED OUT of the one I created. NOTICE THIS ONE IS gmail and not yahoo. fukuforbaby@gmail.com
emailed...I love this idea!!
@hippiechik Didn't get the email but got the one from the person who posted after you. Check the spelling of what you sent. fukuforbaby@yahoo.com
Emailed. I've been wondering what to do with these gently used diapers.
@DaveInSoCal mulch?
Please put your meh name in the email so I know I got you (if you posted here that is - as one apparently hasn't gone through yet)
Very nice. I'm in. Just emailed.
In! Great idea.
Um, not to rain on anyone's parade but please remember his last sentence here.

@Foxborn I hadn't seen that thread. This isn't really an online shower - it is a fuku for baby and as such can include stuff for the parents too…which means no thank you notes, no gift wrap, no effort on their behalf… and no coordination of having a party online via skype or facetime or whatever… and actually people are sending things to his house so I don't think this is under the category of an online shower because it is a fuku.
@Kidsandliz just pointing out and as he, well, they would be showered with gifts, i would have called it a shower, in fact I think this is worse in some ways without some organizing of gifts and knowing what they do and don't need it might very well end up more of a Fuko than a Fuku
@Foxborn they have registered at Target (long wish list) which I am letting people know about and that registry lets people know if something has been purchased. However as the organizer of the mehrican exchange where he does a bunch of boxes, clearly he is interested in this kind of stuff. He can always donate to a local charity/church anything they get that they can't use. I also doubt a zillion people will participate either. It is just sort of a thank you for him doing the exchange.
NEW email to use for this - switched to gmail. Yahoo locked me out of that one. Not sure why.
fukuforbaby@gmail.com
@jont or someone else at meh can you go into my original message and substitute out this email below for the one in there?
@Kidsandliz Because it's Yahoo and Yahoo is stupid
@Foxborn Well lets hope I catch the people who sent and didn't read any further to see that I had to change it.
@Kidsandliz LOL I gave up on Yahoo about 15 years ago went to gmail and never went back
@Kidsandliz yahoo probably thought you were offering sex. fuk-u-for-baby.
@carl669 Geez I never thought about that. Now I guess I will have to see if gmail kicks me out for the same reason. Sigh. I guess if I get locked out Monday I will make one that isn't like that and then ask @jont to change it. No point in doing it tonight since there will be too many emails on this thread and I need to wait until there is a meh employee on the forums to fix it for me. And maybe I will get lucky and won't be locked out.
Someone (female) had emailed me who had no kids and wanted suggestions - like diapers or something. I sent a return to you twice at the yahoo email I now can't get into and so if you would email me at fukuforbaby@gmail.com I can answer you
@Kidsandliz I was blessed and cursed with no less than 7 baby showers for my daughter. Quick tips for the childless: babies grow & don't wear newborn outfits for very long. Fall/winter clothes in 6-12 months or spring clothes in 12-18 months are more likely to be needed/worn. Also, baby stuff is expensive & it's difficult to predict which brand of diaper will fit well on the baby's butt, etc. This is one instance where a gift card would be very well received (and they don't take up any room in the closet).
@glindagw I added this information to the email.

@foxborn brought up a good point about not wanting to create more work for the new parents. It would be nice to include a note that asks them not to send a thank you or acknowledge the package/take photos (like a normal fuku). Luckily they don't have to worry about making sure that the baby is wearing the outfit when we come to visit. Hopefully the worst that we're imposing on them is a stop at goodwill.
@glindagw I will include that information in future emails I send out.
This is a great cause and shall be done
Just out of curiosity, has anyone checked with him to make sure he's okay with his address being given out to random strangers on the internet? Because if it were me, I'd really not be okay with that.
@PurplePawprints nor would I. I just havent made that point yet. second reason I'm not participating
@PurplePawprints I was just going to ask this question...
@PurplePawprints Thinking the same thing- I'll sign up if he approves.
@Foxborn As I was reading this thread, I was thinking this. I would not be okay with my info was shared.
This seems really REALLY uncool considering his wife firmly said she doesn't want an online baby shower (in the 'Hold on to your butts' thread). @kidsandliz and others, she's the mom and you really need to respect her wishes on this.
"Honey, you know how you specifically said you didn't want an online baby shower? Well somebody on the forums gave our address out to strangers on the internet so you're doing one anyway against your wishes. A whole bunch of internet strangers knowing where we live and that we have a new baby, what could possibly go wrong? Ohhh... right. Lots."
Hello all, @studerc checking in after an email request.
First off, what a kind gesture! After hearing about this the first emotion that I felt was joy. @kidsandliz without a doubt went above and beyond to set something up like this and the primary focus here should be the fact that she did have good intentions.
However, I was a bit disheartened to see the potential of my personal information being given out to people without my consent. Sure, this information can be accessed by anyone who truly wants to find it, however most people wouldn't. I highly value personal privacy which is why I go to such lengths in the exchange to ease peoples' minds that I will safeguard their information. Now, I know that 99% of people wouldn't abuse such information, however I also must consider the 1%.
We have received 3 gifts from the meh community already and I am still planning on posting pictures of the 2 I have yet to display. (Been busy, of course). We do have two baby registries, one at Target, the other at Amazon. If @kidsandliz wants to continue with such a gesture, my wife and I WILL consent. Nobody is under any obligation whatsoever to even consider such a gesture, but at the same time you can. I do not feel I have "earned" or "deserve" such gifts as we have tons of people in the community that show equal dedication, if not more than myself.
Truth be told, this put me in quite the pickle and it took several hours for me to really analyze the situation to determine my course of action. I truthfully do appreciate the thought and kind gesture. However, please keep in mind, as many have mentioned before, to TAKE IT EASY. The last thing I want to have to worry about is a bunch of random (FUKO) stuff landing at my door that I then I have to figure out what to do with. If you insist on such a gesture, please do so respectfully.
Thank you,
@studerc
@studerc Please, please, please, do not consider doing this. Pregnant women are easy targets for violent crime, and your address going out to random strangers would be an extremely bad idea right now. It's not worth it for a few boxes of internet junk. NOT WORTH IT. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/03/19/a-pregnant-colorado-woman-was-stabbed-her-baby-removed-when-she-answered-a-craigslist-ad-for-baby-clothes/
@studerc Maybe talk to your post office about how to set up a receiving box at the Post Office, and that way you don't give out addresses...
Agreed. While the noble motivation behind this effort is clearly kind-hearted, the risks are not worth it.
Having said that, our medium-small-size local post office does include, at no extra cost, a street shipping address with every $50/6 months PO Box. That street address can receive not only USPS, but also UPS and FedEx shipments. Not so sure about trucked items tho. (The catch: if you have to provide (in theory) a real street address as part of the USPS box registration process. 'Not sure how private that address is.)
Valid points, indeed. Instead I will offer this alternative, we have registries on Amazon and Target. Both provide the opportunity to send items without divulging my address. If people REALLY want to send a gift of thanks/congratulations, this would work better. The links to the registry look ups are below...http://www.target.com/gift-registry/find-a-registry and here....http://www.amazon.com/gp/baby/homepage?ie=UTF8&Version=1&entries=0 Each of these options have a huge variety of items at different price points. They also have gift card options for those unsure of what to purchase.
In looking up the registries, you may search my name Casey Studer to make things easier.
@studerc I get the protecting your privacy thing! I think people just get exited to do something nice completely out of kindness and forget. I know I did. I did already whip up a couple things, but as chance has it, I've a friend expecting a girl in July, so I can throw them at her! Gently of course.
@RedOak @Dis_Member your assumming that where he lives is convent to a PO you don't know that.
@Foxborn 'wasn't assuming anything. Simply said it was available from "our" local P.O. Very handy service to achieve some home address privacy. And dramatically cheaper than the rip-off pricing of UPS private mailboxes in our town. We've used both services.
@studerc We do get your city/state from the registries - but it is a bit of a buffer between you and some crazy! (BTW - the bump has combo'd your registry really nicely.)
@Thumperchick Thats ok. Im not terribly worried. However i am a bit worried that a baby goat is called a kid and i might get a few pallets of kid food from @JonT as my combo goat prize and baby shower gift, haha.
@studerc it would be best though if you didn't give him ideas
@studerc if that's what you really want...
How's things going anyway?
@sohmageek Things are going well, just terribly busy. Between home renovations, grad school, teaching, and baby stuff my calendar is a constant battle. Hoping to get the exchange rolling tonight or tomorrow.
@studerc Let me know if there is anything I can do to help! :) I'm sure you could easily figure out one of my email addresses... I just made one of them easier... now I have to figure out how to change it over for meh... having your own domain makes it easy to have multiple accounts and making one for a certain site easy :)
Hey all,
This is such a nice gesture, it makes me really happy that we have a community that wants to put something like this together.
In the future I'd strongly encourage anyone wanting to set up something like this to get permission from everyone involved beforehand. Obviously this was done with the best intentions, but you know they say the road to a really hot place is paved with those.
Also be aware that we won't give out any personal information, even for cool things like this.
