@Pavlov wait...did I read this correctly: Specifically, the price advertised on the website ($3-$22) is greater than the designated minimum price listed on American Lighting IMAP Policy Pricing Sheet.
Meh is selling them at too HIGH of a price? What 'the website' are they referring to?
And it's all just a ruse to get us chumps to buy more (but they are nice I got the ones I needed this time so I DGAF :P)
@RedOx@pavlov, hmmm, i do shurly hope i get some dolla's back, i bought me some of those short 'uns, but if their're gettin' me in da back side well, wtf?
WTF Bro! Why you selling these Meh? Looks like they showed you who's boss again, they must have given you the "ok" to sell...... Like I said last time!
https://meh.com/forum/topics/dear-meh-com-1 F*k MAP pricing and F*k the Police!!! Inflating a crappy products price and keeping it there is the name of their game. I'd say the exact opposite to what Meh stands for. Stand strong Meh, @snapster, ban THEIR junk product from ever being sold here on MEH and let them know who is the boss around here!
I'm a silly old fart living in a rental apartment and when I read GET A DIMMER SWITCH I want to run & hide. (And there are those who say I couldn't be dimmer anyway.) The dimmer switch option involves wiring, I take it...and that's about all I know. Is getting & using a dimmer switch something you can do if you know, um, nothing whatsoever? Thanks.
@gertiestn Don't worry you seem smart enough. your no Dim Witt. If you have any questions you just need to run to the HOME DEPOT and they will hook you up without stringing you along.
@gertiestn That's exactly the one I bought for these the first time around! I clicked on the link, and it was all "You've bought this item" and I was all "holy balls look at that!"
@crossit or is it. @itcross ? Either way he wants all the rope you can ship him. Thousands of feet of it. His mouth is watering.... I can see it from here.
There is no "1.6A inverter" in these rope LEDs, it's a diode. We've been through all this before, so I don't need to say that these do the 60Hz flicker thing.
I do have to say these have a pretty high failure rate.
@uwacn I bought several of the 20 foot ones and strung them up under the cabinets in my garage above the workbench. They don't seem to flicker, and actually light up immediately in cold weather, unlike the 8 foot fluorescent lights that used to be there.
@wolfk the lights are ok (just make sure you test them as soon as you get them, so they can send out replacements if you get some "flashy" ones... the warranty is only 90 days)... just that american lighting sent a very foolish email to meh complaining that they were in violation of their price fixing... and on top of the foolish letter sent to a company who most likely bought these at a closeout or from another party... they complained that they were priced... too high. gotta love it...
The one I got in the fuku didn't work. It flickered randomly and about half of the LEDs were dead. Also the entire thing is plastered in warning about lead exposure.
I'll shed some light on where these might find purpose.
I'd give them to Marco Rubio for when he dives into Donald Trump's allegedly cavernous pants on the next episode of "In Search Of ..." intelligence and taste in the Republican party. Maybe he'll find more than a mouthful with these babies to light the way.
Love them. Think I'm in the minority here. I attached them to the base of my deck and the warm white strings illuminate the yard enough that I can see my mostly black dogs in the nether regions of the yard at night. I just plug them in when I take the dogs out, since I'm not talented enough to attach them to a light switch. Would buy more if I could figure out another use.
@don They're $13 on Amazon right now. Just bought one, I have so many lights left over from the last time I bought these, I'll give it a try in my basement.
I got these last time and I wouldn't recommend them for indoor use if you are bothered by odors. The plastic smells like a skunk f@#&king a burning tire. I left them in my garage for months to air out and let them on for days thinking the heat would burn off some stink. No dice they smell up the whole house. Maybe mine are just special though. Maybe they got returned by someone who works at a factory where they make Skunks f@#&king burning tires and they picked up the smell there.
nothing like an IMAP letter to make you want to buy more. in for 2
then there's the complaints of DOA a/o odor, looks like a 10-20% fail rate. on meh, would be unhappy, but $3-18, my bad. if I had paid full retail... Hello Jake, IMAP is the least of your problems.
but really, to sell to a discount site, then complain about the discount ??
Bought a whole bunch of these once or twice ago. Didn't get a chance to play with them for several months later.
One of my 6'ers was DOA and meh let me down since it was beyond the 90 day warranty.
These things are junk and will only upset you if you install them and they fail, especially if you can't replace it easily.
Further, they off-gas a really nasty smell; We only really used 2-3 strings for part of our Christmas decorations, (the rest are still 'new'), but even after being outside for several months, they still stunk after bringing them indoors. I'm convinced THESE are the primary source of cancer in California.
You guys must have bought enough of these to light up O'Hare. Are these the ones with lead in the plastic and you have to wash your hands after touching them? In that case, I'll need to change my coffee mug vote. They do work good, though. Dimmers are a plus.
Does anyone have an issue with this blinking out? (specifically the last 1-3 feet depending on length) I got 2 strands the first I ran around the back of my TV, intermittently the last 1.5 feet shut off, a bit of a wiggle they turn back on. I figured fluke so I got a 2nd order for above a cabinet and I just laid it out there, and sure enough the last 3 feet intermittently blink out.
geez, I hate you Meh late night pricks. When I saw that these things finally came back up for sale I got a little happy. SO online I go to purchase some backup 3 and 6 footers for my sandblasting cabinet and you bitches bought them all. Now I have to go buy them somewhere else. Fuck you, I needed to sleep. I was carrying a large deficit for 2 days due to getting called out for work. I crash a little earlier than usual and this is the outcome. No wonder I will never order VMP. The upside is that I should be back to a normal sleep pattern now until called back out again.
ROPE LIGHTS, MY FAVORITE!!! D'oh! Waited too long and all bright whites are out. I was gonna order some more. Maybe next time. PLEASE MEH, please get more bright whites if you can.
@rkc123@cwolfpack3 The outlet dimmer is the easiest way, and probably also the cheapest unless you're replacing an existing switch. It's not really hard to install a dimmer switch in the wall (no harder than any other light switch), but you've either got to cut the cord and hardwire these lights in (cue warnings about safety, code violations, and fire hazards) or you've got to wire the dimmer switch to an outlet, which is a weird setup. If it's a totally new install, you've got to run a new circuit for it back to your breaker box (or tie into an existing circuit, again cue the warnings). If you're asking this question, a plug-in dimmer switch is probably going to be the best way to go.
Plus, it's totally removable and transportable should you decide to put the lights somewhere else.
One exception: If you already have an outlet that is controlled by a light switch, and that's where you plan to plug in the lights, swapping the switch for a dimmer is easy. But note that you can't plug anything else into that outlet that expects full power.

FUCK YOU, JAKE - YOU IMAP FUCKER.

@Pavlov well then - fuck Jake's illiterate ass self, meh should sell cheaper (or credit us all a buck per rope) to comply.
edit - I was replying to your reply but your reply went bye bye and I now look weird and unnecessarily angry at jake.
@RedOx @pavlov, hmmm, i do shurly hope i get some dolla's back, i bought me some of those short 'uns, but if their're gettin' me in da back side well, wtf?
I climbed my way here first
You won't hear from them until Tuesday or Wednesday, because surely the department that enforces lower prices takes the weekend off.
Great write-up!
meh
@curtise I'm finally convinced. In for two of the 32 footers to decorate my fence next Christmas.
@curtise wow
illumehnating
Save a few for yourselves to light the way to the courtroom.
got the long bright whites i missed last time!
"...this sale will probably clear out our inventory of these - buy 'em while we got 'em"
Promise?!
I won't be strung along to buy these, but for some, if you give them enough rope....
Must have had like three of those 19.7ft bright white ones. Sold out between when I selected them and when I clicked "Yes! Fine! Just buy it already!"
Meh. 18ft is practically the same.
gutsy-flirtatious-division
Jake's gonna be pissed.
WTF Bro! Why you selling these Meh? Looks like they showed you who's boss again, they must have given you the "ok" to sell...... Like I said last time!

@Stallion wat
I already have four of the 6.6 footers, but here I am buying an 18 ft because reasons.
comfortable-enigmatic-rat, also because reasons.
Note that some models have an advanced auto-dimming feature, where sections of the rope will stop working over time.
@awk and by "over time" you mean the time it takes to plug it in.
Damn those bright whites went fast.
@Nyc_Tattoo yea, racism
Curse you, order limits! Also sorry for making two orders and wasting shipping, noticed the warning about running low after placing the first one
@SkyyPunk open another account
Sure, now when I realize I really do need a new vacuum. And a monitor. And maybe some new knives...
Still might buy some of these to light my bar if I could figure out a good way to string them together between the shelves...
"No quantity limits, either" but only allowed to order 3?
@DashG5 No quantity limits as long as you don't want more than three.
@DashG5 The hired Jake to handle the counts and write ups. He's not a smart man.
@DashG5 Well crudpuppies. If I can't order 42 of 'em, I don't want any at all.
@DashG5 @devtony Fixed that; order as many as you want
@Moose All 42 ordered. Thanks!
@devtony the ultimate quantity of light, the undulationism and everything?
Ive seen brighter strips. It was an albino chick in Vegas....
When do the light narcs show up?
This is one of those things that I want to want but I know would just sit around forever and never get put up.
@stoopkid That's what I did with mine.
I'm a silly old fart living in a rental apartment and when I read GET A DIMMER SWITCH I want to run & hide. (And there are those who say I couldn't be dimmer anyway.) @gertiestn http://amzn.com/B004DE5ONC
@DashG5 You could just repurpose the one you use on your wife's Hitachi. If you can pry it from her trembling grip.
@DashG5 Thanks so much!
@gertiestn Don't worry you seem smart enough. your no Dim Witt. If you have any questions you just need to run to the HOME DEPOT and they will hook you up without stringing you along.

@CrossIT boxes and boxes of them didn't you?

I do have to say these have a pretty high failure rate.
@uwacn if they were perfect they would been sold way back in the good ol' JBL mini speaker dock days.
@uwacn buzz kill
@uwacn I bought several of the 20 foot ones and strung them up under the cabinets in my garage above the workbench. They don't seem to flicker, and actually light up immediately in cold weather, unlike the 8 foot fluorescent lights that used to be there.
why is every body so pissed I don't get It i have not been here that long! so why is the deal with the lights not so bright
@wolfk CLICK, READ, ENJOY, -
https://meh.com/forum/topics/dear-meh-com-1

@wolfk it's ok, it's nobody's fault (land before time)
I want more than 3, please read the listing and lift the limit.
@gdawson6 open another account, duh?
@gdawson6 Limit is lifted!
@Moose Thanks!!!
never mind I just answered my own question sorry I guess drunk reading is also hazardous to one's health
@wolfk i encourage drunk reading, i can't remember why ;(
The one I got in the fuku didn't work. It flickered randomly and about half of the LEDs were dead. Also the entire thing is plastered in warning about lead exposure.
@Nexar rut row, i guess you're not ordering more?
@Nexar Order MOAR! #DetroitLivesMatter
I'll shed some light on where these might find purpose.

@rm9116 you bought these to see your dog's nether regions?
@rm9116 you would not need to keep unplugging them and plugging them in if you could find something like this Sylvania motion sensing outlet.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/sylvania-motion-sensing-outlet
Maybe meh will sell them again.
@don They're $13 on Amazon right now. Just bought one, I have so many lights left over from the last time I bought these, I'll give it a try in my basement.
The news buzz on this deal is light years ahead!! Meh I c u r trying to rope me in again!

@Ecriscit canceling VMP too. Nothing good for sale to make it worthwhile.
ROPE LIGHTS, MY FAVORITE!!! D'oh! Waited too long and all bright whites are out. I was gonna order some more. Maybe next time. PLEASE MEH, please get more bright whites if you can.
@joe43wv nice thought but I am guessing they may have burned that bridge.
Can this rope light be cut?
@FlyersPh9
Yes.
Are you curious if it will function afterwards?
@Pavlov Hah, funny. Yes, obviously. Hue lightstrips can as can others.
One of the oddest orders I've seen to date.
psychedelic-drifting-scorpion
So I bought these now how the hell would I go about setting up a dimmer?... Is the hassle large enough that I should just go with an outlet dimmer?
@rkc123 I'm following your post for the answer, too.
@rkc123 @cwolfpack3 The outlet dimmer is the easiest way, and probably also the cheapest unless you're replacing an existing switch.
