Came really close to pulling the trigger on this especially with my mehembership but the Amazon reviews are pretty harsh and I think I’d rather save my ten bucks
@MrMikenIkes I’m glad you mentioned this. Went to look at the reviews because of your comment and all 1 and 2 star reviewers had a broken headband. It’s made of brittle plastic and breaks easily especially if you have a big head.
@tweezak I actually have some low-temp thermoplastic that I can use to repair plastic that breaks, but it’s still nice to not have to worry. especially with how the LAST pair of headphones I bought from meh turned out.
@Fodder650 In my experience no noise-cancelling headphones are effective for blocking out the sound of a noisy gas lawn mower engine (either push or riding mower). Even the “good” ones like Sony only can cancel out moderate background noise – when I used to fly, I had some Sony’s bought in Japan and they were good for reducing the overall droning of the plane engines. But a gas mower 2 feet in front of you is just too loud to do much.
You need ones that actually have sound blocking cups, basically for hearing protection, usually minimum of 22dB-25dB. (ignore the “20dB” spec for this, it’s not the same type of blocking). For example, 3M “WorkTunes” which Home Depot sometimes has on sale around the holidays. Most of these can either connect to your device with a cord or use bluetooth. There also are some with built-in FM radios.
@pmarin I use my Bose QC35s when mowing my lawn and they do a great job at muffling the sound. You’ll always hear something even with the very best headphones, whether it’s when mowing or flying or whatever but mowing is the ideal situation for noise canceling since it’s rhythmic.
@cinoclav That’s good to know. I wasn’t familiar with the QC35 and looked it up. I can see it’s a full-outer-cup design which basically seals off your ears, so even though it is not specifically built for sound-deadening (like hearing protectors such as the WorkTunes are), it probably does a pretty good job especially when coupled with the electronic noise cancellation. I don’t think a basic Meh one like in this deal would do nearly as good a job as the Bose – of course, the Bose probably costs 30x the price of this Meh one, so there’s that…
@pmarin Currently, you can find them for about 27 times the price of these. They do have great sound and are super comfy. I primarily bought them for flying but it turned out using them while mowing truly made them worth the cost. Though I was lucky enough to buy mine for half off through someone that worked for Bose.
@Fodder650@thebigtverberg actually yes those are good too. i have some from another HD deal. the $29 AMZ is pretty good. These are true “hearing protectors” 25dB and also have speakers so you plug them into a device. Similar to the WorkTunes. I don’t think these have bluetooth but I rarely use that for audio. when I mow I use a vintage iPod!
@cinoclav@pmarin I too use my QC35’s when mowing, and yes, mine were 27 times the price of these, but have proven to be worth every cent when mowing for two hours, spending nights in noisy hospital rooms, driving on car trips with the wife, working at the office when the air handler in the mechanical room across the hall needed a belt change…
@Fodder650@pmarin You need what I’ll be buying - a Ryobi Electric zero turn mower! Range says it’ll cut 2.5 acres. And super silent while cutting. Do you think Meh will sell it?
@Fodder650@misobrilliant I definitely agree about going electric for mowing. (and chainsaws, etc). I have been looking at the Ryobi also. Hope there are more alternatives in the future. I already use a Kobalt 80V mower for a smaller lot and it’s great. I don’t need ear protection/headphones unless I want to listen to music. I don’t need to change my clothes and take a shower afterwards due to smelly oil/gas fumes getting all over me. I don’t need to wear a mask; well, sometimes I do, but for another reason. Not in my lawn, though.
@stinks Hey hey I wasn’t one of those. I’ve been here since the Kickstarter and have taken advantage of it. I had so much from the Mehrathon that my mailman left a post office container on my doorstep. I did give it back.
@misobrilliant@pmarin They sold the electric bike. So maybe. Of course I have a steep hill. So no zero turn for me. I have my fifteen year old riding mower that works like a champ.
/giphy riding mower
I’ll give them to my 12 and 14 year olds to break. They’ll think they got great gifts, and then I’ll laugh sadistically when they break them an hour later…
Amazon reviews say these are not for people with big heads – that should leave out a lot of the people who post to forums here – especially posts with political comments.
If you are wondering if I am talking about you, then Yes, I am.
If I include the pair I just bought for $10 and the pair that I bought on sidedeal.com for $20 that USPS says they delivered but didn’t actually, what’s my average cost?
@cfg83@Frcal OMG, nobody ever gets the joke when I say “I am EENVEENCEEBLE!” It’s like all four Pierce Brosnan films disappeared as soon as Daniel Craig took over.
@Frcal@kensey I am a programmer (aka I edit text files for a living), so I recognize that phrase from 20 mega-nano-meters away. I am glad you speeld it correctly. I weel reemeembar that for neext time.
@cfg83 Your new ears are quite becoming…but when I said “grow a pair” I didn’t mean ears. But good for you anyway for facing your fears and pulling the trigger. Now you can be unsatisfied with them along with the rest of us.
@tweezak The headphones are officially a win. Noise cancellation is sufficient to take a nap. That’s all I wanted. The 3.5 input jack is a plus so that I can go old-school wired as needed.
@Rossome Depends on context. The “VMP price” means the buyer is taking into account that they wouldn’t have to pay the additional shipping charge with the purchase, that non-members would have to pay. That is true on Meh, MorningSave, …
Also, on MorningSave, if you purchase and put in “VMP” into the promotion code box, you will get a 10% discount on the purchase price (if you have VMP). That discount used to be automatic, but they later announced that to get the discount you had to use the code. Once in a great while, that will actually make the MS net price cheaper than the Meh price on the same item (but only if management slips up – many times they just remove it from sale at MS).
And of course, the price also reflects how long they have had the item, how many they have yet to sell, and how desperate they are to get rid of their stock and free up warehouse space. So, it tends to come down in the long term, anyway.
@phendrick Again, I’m not new to this. Just because you don’t see my name here a lot doesn’t mean I’m not out here daily. I have used the VMP code on the other sites several times. I’ll just write it off to people suddenly feeling the urge to mention VMP.
@Rossome If you already knew what I just explained, then I am not sure why you are asking the question. I would have guessed you should have figured it out.
Maybe my reply will be helpful to someone a little less experienced around here.
“According to this review” they say, but that has to be the worst designed review site ever. Painfully slow just trying to get to the ANC part of the review. Way to much adverticrud on that site.
@tweezak Where do you see that in the amazon description? I do see it in the Q&A, but I’d rather have it in the actual specs. Headphones with a mic are usually called a headset.
@ThunderChicken Way down almost to the questions there’s a “Product Description” section. The 3rd item in there says: "Easy Access Controls - The built-in mic and intuitive controls make it quick and easy to take calls and track through your playlists. "
I’m in. Use my QFX set when I work outside all the time, nice to have a backup when the battery dies or they bite the dust in the future, plus noise cancelling may make these pretty handy if I ever get to fly again…
/giphy ambivalent-deep-swashbuckler
As for mowing…I generally use a pair of wired earbuds (like the recent Titanium from Echobox) or truly wireless (not connected to each other) bluethooth buds under a pair of regular shooting range style hearing protectors. I figure the extra physical protection of muffs plus buds will help preserve what little hearing I still have…
@aarond12@chienfou Thanks for the tutorial. However, if it doesn’t bring up Mr. Rogers flipping the double-bird as the first result like it does when I search my order number on Giphy…well, just meh!
If you found a giphy you want specifically, just use the “copy link” for gif, from the giphy site and simply paste it into the post
i.e. https://media.giphy.com/media/44Eq3Ab5LPYn6/giphy. gif (without the space before gif).
@aarond12@chienfou@EffinMojo definitely a beautiful day in the neighborhood. screw you guys! Can’t read lips; wondering what he is saying in that clip?
I think exuberant-bickering-jackrabbits applies to most households of more than 1 person at this time of quarantine. I am a household of 1 so I have to come here (or the wine site) for the exuberance and bickering.
EDIT but they have wine over there so they have more exuberance and less bickering.
I suffered a childhood ear infection and have A condition called Pin-Dropitus where the (believe it or not) Incredibly LOUD dog-whistle type higher registers that not even humans can hear are like nails on a chalkboard to me. @MrNews From my experience the $200+ ones do that too, to some extent. It’s a characteristic of what it has to do to “cancel” the outside noise. Of course the expensive ones like Bose, higher-end Sony (not the cheap ones), and Apple earPod Pro, have much more advanced DSP (digital signal processing) and greatly improve the performance. But some change in sound fidelity is unavoidable.
@pmarin That’s true, much more so with low-end cans. I have the Bose QC35-II, and the noise-canceling function is so pleasant, it’s worth the extremely slight reduction in volume. I also have a $60 Monoprice version, which are okay, but the “muffling” effect of NC is more noticeable. Very dependent of hearing acuity and personal standards for music reproduction.
I bought these despite the Amazon reviews. I have purchased many things with terrible reviews and am often (about half the time) happy with the item. The bad Amazon reviews are for the cheap plastic these are made out of, not for the sound quality. I’ll just be careful with the plastic for $10.
Oh these crimson cans will really help divert attention from my ginger hair. And no one will see my ears! I hate my ears, but I’m getting over it. Thanks, meh.com!
@Trinityscrew working from home, I must say that I never knew how horny the squirrels in our backyard are. I tried to look away but it was more entertaining than my conference calls.
seems a good price, I’m willing to risk it, plus, fixing a broken band would be easy, broken connectors where it meets the ear part, less so (I’ve learned that the hard way)
@cinoclav interesting, wish I’d known about the graphite when I was fixing my glasses the other day, a smooth black blob would probably look a lot better haha
@accelerator@f00l I think it was definitely an “empty-the-warehouse” deal at this price; surprised it lasted that long.
Meanwhile when we get our high-fiber stroopwaffels we ordered yesterday, we will have to see if that also becomes an “empty-the-bowels” deal as some predicted
Well, meh sucked me back into membership for a month. Picked up two for my flights to Seattle. Since they seem to break easy, one cup goes over your mouth and I can share the other with the wife?
Got mine today, they sound pretty nice. The ANC feature works-ish, but even without it engaged they block out a lot of sound. Pretty sweet deal for ten buckaroos
@tmdowling I had a similar thought, as soon as I ordered my two black headsets, I bought a 3’ long, 1/2" wide piece of flat aluminum at Home Depot and some plastic epoxy. I plan to cut, shape and glue the aluminum to the headband before ever using them. Haven’t decided whether to paint the aluminum black or just leave it natural, I think it will look good either way. The piece of aluminum was only $3, the plastic epoxy $5
Got mine today, the ANC works alright but they refuse to play music wirelessly and instead make weird humming noises. Luckily they included a cable and function wired, I guess.
Arrived today. Mine sound pretty good. Noise cancelling tbd until I start lawn mowing. One thing I did notice is the red led is very dim. First while charging it was dim and while pairing it was supposed to alternate white/red but I only saw white but managed to get it paired.
Got mine today too. Gotta say for ten clams they are pretty good. I just listened to part of a couple tunes on YouTube with my iPhone and was pretty impressed. I like how soft the ear cups are but they are heavier than I like. Also, I noticed they are pretty warm. I also tried a quick phone call with my wife and they seem to work good for that. She said it sounded clear and her voice sounded natural as well. I’ll be using these for call in meetings for work. THANKS MEH! Awesome!! (take it away, mediocrebot!)
@Stumpy91 Yeah. I got my wife a pair as well and she has the same issue. I can listen to music, but anything else is pretty annoying. I’ve noticed it’s still there even if I mute the audio of whatever video I’m watching. Must be something to do with when the computer starts sending an audio signal.
@Stumpy91 The power button appears to control only bluetooth functionality. The noise cancelation works with wired audio as well and that functionality is controlled separately by that button.
neither… the question on the order page says “what color do you want?” There is no mention of the fact that they will actually ship that color…
/giphy so obvious…
USPS says mine are at my house today. Unfortunately I am working 32 out of the next 40 hours (16 on /8 off/ 16 no) so I won’t get to check them out until Sunday, unless I remember to grab one or both to check out while at work tomorrow.
I got mine today and they are quite good, especially for $10! I have no issues with buzzing, humming etc. The ANC is not as good as my multi hundred dollar Bose. Of course they’re not! I don’t mind wearing these out in the yard in the Florida weather while I’m sweating with high humidity etc.
I was not able to register the product though. I tried to go to the Altigo website and it automatically redirected to Zagg. No mention of Altigo on their website though.
@tyhdgku I registered mine at Zagg. Go to Register Product, select Audio product, with no serial number. The drop-down will show these headphones. 2 year warranty. Not sure if they will honor it because Meh is not an official dealer.
I got mine today, and hot damn, these are fantastic headphones for $10… I’ve got the Bose qc whatever and these are good enough. Are those Bose headphones 200 dollars better than these? Not a chance…
Wish I had bought 2 for the kiddos … oh well. This was a steal
Got mine today and they’re decent. The white that I have seems like a light gray, almost a hint of silver. Nicer than bright white, in my opinion. Pretty happy with them for this price.
I can’t afford a $10 purchase such as this since I’m intractably in need, but having money like all you people do would be nice.
But if I were to have received this the other day I would say that they are pretty darn good $10 earphones. If I were to say, watch a movie, with them I could probably say they were comfortable and sounded good.
If I could have bought this, I’d say thanks Meh, you hit it out of the park with this deal.
@Barney Don’t you think posting over and over and over and over about my problems and then just casually mentioning them every chance I can to work them into the post is too much?
No?
Great, I’ll keep posting about them then.
Did I mention that I can’t afford even $10 stuff? I know I’m not the only one who has made such claims here on the meh forums.
@therealjrn Hey, some of us were born wealthy. But others had to WORK for a living. Maybe you should give that a try instead of complaining all of the time about how poor you are.
@Barney What you don’t see is that I’m too over qualified for jobs. Here’s a great spot for a back story!
You do remember that I used to work for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections? I was working with adjudicated adult men. I sure wish somebody had worked with them a little better when they were adjudicated youths.
Any way, I used to work in the prisons and I’ve got some great stories.
@therealjrn I afraid I don’t have time for chit chat. I’m driving the Lamborghini to my summer home today. It’s time to open it up for the season. But I’m afraid that I am going to have to make do with only the one maid this year. I made the mistake of giving too large of a Christmas bonus to the staff and the other maid bought the estate next to mine and retired.
@sammydog01@therealjrn I’m sure that jrn would greatly appreciate your kind offer, but I think the other person, who jrn must be related to, already has found some sucker kind soul to pay for hers.
@jmbunkin I hope you at least tossed them into a donation bin so somebody could find them later and claim they were cast-offs. I wish you had tossed them near me so I could take them to the old people. I take stuff to the old people all the time, because that’s how nice of a person I am.
Gave these things a shot even with the sub par Amazon reviews, I mean, 10 bucks is a good deal even if they are crap. Got them on May 8th, the plastic of the headband snapped the morning of May 12th, with no force at all.
@jeremythegeek Care to share some pictures of the break point, perhaps there’s some preventative actions that can be taken? Now where did I put that JB Weld?
@jeremythegeek - same here and in the exact same place! Trying gorilla glue and sugru to see if I can get them usable again. I thought they were great until they snapped just putting them on my head. I may also see if they’ll do anything under warranty.
@newmanwj Yes, that’s how it happened for me as well, I was just slipping them around my neck, and the slightest motion made them snap. I e-mailed about it the day it happened, I’ve also registered the headphones on ZAGG(the site you get directed to now when trying the Altigo website), to see if I can do a warranty claim as well.
@Kidsandliz - thanks for the tip! I took apart two of those springy metal hair clip things (sorry for the technical terms) and duct taped them to the band. Not particularly attractive but it seems to work! Still gonna try for a warranty claim tho.
My pair had the buzzing sound happening so I registered mine with Zagg. Then called about the warranty and they’re shipping me a pair of ifrogz airtime vibe (which basically look like the same thing just rebranded). It was $6 for shipping. If you feel like throwing another $6 at them I’m sure that would also work for the snapping.
@JDCornwell Mine (and a couple a friend ordered) were last updated leaving New Jersey about 2 weeks ago. Anyone hear of a USPS truck catching fire in the Northeast in the past 2 weeks?

@corrado mine must be on the same truck, or New Jersey just became the black hole of the shipping world, because my last tracking update says almost exactly the same thing.

@JDCornwell@platojello Not dissimilar. Unimpressed with the expediency of the shipping partner on this one. It looks like it sat with the primary shipper in NJ for about 2 weeks before finally getting dumped off with USPS.

It’s lost at this point. I asked meh to check on it and they gave me a refund. If they do ever show up, the email said I can keep them, but I really don’t have any confidence of that happening.
Quick review in case these show up in the meh peer to peer trash disposal a thon…
tooth of blue:
So the noise-floor on the bluetooth radio is pretty bad, like it is in many cheap headphones, these are not TOCCs manhatten (bluetooths modo now open) noisy… in fact outside with some noise one might not even notice it… but it is there…
AAC via iphone: don’t think so
AAC via android: nope couldn’t ever get it to happen
AptX via android: yup, sounds decent if you tune out the noise floor.
actual speaker audio quality:
so they do have an aux in and it is noise free if the bluetooth radio functions are off or not ‘active’ on some phones.
they are bass heavy (like many headphones these days) but with eq correction they sound pretty nice especially for $10.
iphone: try bass reducer first, if that doesn’t fit the music use treble booster
android: depends on the phone and what eq but just give the high end some power over the bass.
actual build quality:
mine haven’t snapped yet, but they are tight on my largish head. worst case I will try the warranty if they snap on me.
they feel good and look pretty nice for $10 comes with a storage bag, usb power cable and 3.5mm M/M aux. cable.
active noise cancellation:
I haven’t really messed around with it much… so can’t claim that it is great or terrible yet.
bottom line: decent sounding headphones (wired) for $10 with equalization.
@Bandrik@thismyusername The BT is embarrassingly bad. If I didn’t read this review, I would have assumed they were defective. Worth $10? Probably, to have a junk pair for the shop or doing housework. Def. worth the $20 for the extra pair I got for the kids so they stop stealing my really good wired headphones.
I read the comments and (luckily) had some black duct tape which I liberally applied to the stress points mentioned in the comments before even trying them one (fingers crossed).
I’m ~very~ impressed with the bass (caveat: I’m older [50+] and my ears are not… as finely tuned as they once were).
These were targeted for “audiobooks while walking the dog” but they’re decent enough for “porn after hours” … err, “music before napping”.
Oy. Received one in the wrong color. I’ve emailed customer service. As per sound - they’re pretty bad. Very hollow and muffled both with and without noise canceling on. They also fit quite tightly and I couldn’t imagine wearing them for too long before my ears would hurt. I made the mistake of listening to them first, then switching to my Bose QC35’s for a comparison. There is none. For $10, they’re acceptable throwaways when they break. Had I paid anywhere above that I’d be really unhappy.
For the price I think people are expecting a bit much. These are great for spoken voice like phone calls. I sat on a 90 minute webinar with them and had no complaints. The Bluetooth has worked great with both of my Winduhs laptops and two iPhones. You just need to remember to disconnect from one device before trying to connect to the next. If I do that everything is peachy. I even paired them to my Panasonic tv and muted the amp so my wife could sleep while I watched videos. Yes, the music quality is not great but if you want great sound get some Grados.
I still have not received my headphones. This is my tracking:

Mine were pretty good for two weeks, didn’t crack, sounded great.
Now, they lose connection to the phone after about 30 seconds of listening. And when I try to reconnect, they turn off immediately. Literally the robot lady in the headphones says “Power ON-Power OFF.” With no pause in between. Can’t re-pair the Bluetooth, can’t do anything with them. Very disappointing.
Can’t find their website either, only their Amazon store, so I doubt I’ll be able to get a replacement. They still work with an aux cord, so its better than nothing because they do sound very good.
Bought these and they work surprisingly well. They do well to ease the noise from the lawnmower. The sound is good and the headphones aren’t heavy. They make my ears sweat though when mowing, but then again it’s sunny and hot so my face sweats anyway. Pleased with the purchase
@jbirdjess I usually use hearing protectors with earbuds so I can use a lower volume on the device. If you use JUST these with ANC when you mow, how loud do you have to turn them up to be able to hear the music or whatever? Does the ANC actually make the loud background noise “disappear” or does it just mask it? (see below for more questions…)
@chienfou honestly it’s about mid level. I’ve had to turn the volume down before. I’m not saying it drowns out the mower sound completely, but I hear more music at 1/2 volume than I do anything else.
@jbirdjess
Guess I will give it try. Normally earbuds work well, but occasionally if I am using wired ones they will get caught on a branch or something when I am mowing and snatch out, or if BT they will eventually work their way out of my ears and fall into the cups…
So my understanding of the way ANC works is that an inverted wave is generated to ‘cancel’ the offending sound. My question is, how does that impact your overall hearing when used for mowing the lawn etc.? Does that impact the amount of damage high loudness does to your ears? I.E. if you have a loud baseline noise (lawnmower) and you generate an ANC signal, are you still exposing your eardrums to the baseline PLUS the invert, or does one actually nullify the other…?
@chienfou From what I’ve read, one nullifies the other. It’s noise canceling, not noise balancing. They literally cancel the outside noise so that you’re able to listen to your broadcast at a lower volume level. Because of this, they’re recommended to help reduce hearing damage.
@chienfou@cinoclav@chienfou As far as I understand, sound is caused by pressure waves on the eardrums. In order for noise canceling to work, it has to attenuate the waves entering your ears. This happens by a combination of both the surround material dampening the pressure waves and the electronics generating an inverted signal. So by that logic, it has to reduce the pressure on your eardrums or else it won’t work.
It might be possible that the combination of both signals aren’t perfect and causes a slight increase in static pressure, but that’s probably similar to what you’d experience underwater in a shallow pool or during landing in a plane. It would still be much less than the pressure of the actual noise.
@cinoclav@kuoh Thanks to both of you for helping to reaffirm what seemed like it should be the case. My only concern was what if it was sort of like adding UV light to an IR light to balance them out and you got a thermal and sunburn both…
I got these quickly, and I REALLY love the way they work and feel. Unfortunately, they snapped when taking them off today. Not overstretched, just taking them off my ears. Guess I will try JB Weld…disappointing.
@Valker This just happened to me. I was able to contact ZAGG support to register the headphones as an equivalent product (since this model is no longer in the registration list), and I’ve put in for a replacement pair now. Maybe this newer model won’t snap so easily…
Wanted to update with my experience with these - I used these for a couple weeks for conference calls for work and was pretty happy with them. The range was great for walking around the house and sound quality was fine for the calls. I did try to be gentle with them due to the band snapping issue folks mentioned, but when I put them on my head yesterday I guess I pulled them apart a bit too much and the band snapped in two places. Decided to contact ZAGG for a warranty claim and wanted to detail my experience here just in case others wanted to do the same.
I couldn’t register these Altigo headphones so like someone else in this thread mentioned, I checked out the IFROGZ Airtime Vibe and they looked identical. I decided to email ZAGG support to be sure and they confirmed that those would be the correct replacements for this Altigo set. However, since they requested proof of purchase to check the model, they informed me that Meh isn’t an authorized retailer of their products and this wouldn’t ordinarily be covered by their warranty but luckily they’d make an exception since I hadn’t returned anything unauthorized to them before.
So, warning to other folks, it seems like they’ll accept the warranty if you’re a first time offender but I plan to watch out for any future ZAGG warranties from Meh as they might not accept it the next time (assuming they always ask for proof of purchase). Not sure who to contact at Meh to let them know that advertising these as covered by the ZAGG warranty isn’t quite true.
@Barney I sent them a screenshot of the whole order confirmation page (which has “Meh.com” at the top), maybe I should have cropped some out. I’ll try that next time (assuming there is one)! Thanks!
I bought them and the broke on about the 2nd time I used them. The plastic piece over the head snapped when I tried to extend the speakers. I have tape on it to keep it “kind of” in place but I look like a DRD from Farscape.
They worked for 2 weeks and snapped. Duct tape made them work but look awful. Basically I’m out $10 for headphones that worked a couple of weeks. Could be much worse. Advise is to be VERY careful putting them on and taking them off.
@corrado
Both my set are still going strong. On the other hand I only wear them when I’m traveling as a rule.
Good luck with the warranty process. Hope it works out for you.
@chienfou Prognosis negative. Time to write to meh support about a refund I suppose.
"I certainly understand how concerning this can be and I am happy to look into this! When purchasing online, it is important to note where the product is being shipped from and who it is being sold by. A lot of 3rd party sites will not be covered under warranty and unfortunately, meh is not an authorized site with us. We will not be able to replace the product under warranty but I am happy to provide a ZAGG rewards that you can use towards the purchase of new headphones on ZAGG.com. "

RAWR!!!
Wonder if these can extinguish loud snoring.
Came really close to pulling the trigger on this especially with my mehembership but the Amazon reviews are pretty harsh and I think I’d rather save my ten bucks
@MrMikenIkes Yeah, until I looked at the Amazon reviews I was in the same position.
@MrMikenIkes I was going to buy them until I saw this. Thanks
@MrMikenIkes I’m glad you mentioned this. Went to look at the reviews because of your comment and all 1 and 2 star reviewers had a broken headband. It’s made of brittle plastic and breaks easily especially if you have a big head.
They must be some pretty crappy earphones for meh to sell them for $ 10.
@Felton10 my thought exactly
@Felton10 @robson Meh thought exactly
Don’t need anymore headphones but they do look pretty solid from the price/specs. Outside reviews aren’t too shabby either.
For $10 why not? I’ve spent more money on stupider things
@ihaveyoursox You are what keeps Meh.com working. I also bought one.
@ihaveyoursox You don’t know how many times those words have come out of my mouth as I slammed that “BUY IT” button…
@ihaveyoursox I bought one as l to give as a gift. Should be great for that purpose
@ihaveyoursox Were any of those stupider things not purchased from meh?
@Bandrik @ihaveyoursox For someone you’re not too fond of, I assume.
@ihaveyoursox Ditto-the 108 items I have bought on meh attest to that.
@ihaveyoursox @Trinityscrew It’s for my brother.
reviews all agree that these are super fragile. I might buy them anyway. lol
@hugh0spaz Duct tape it and done
@tweezak I actually have some low-temp thermoplastic that I can use to repair plastic that breaks, but it’s still nice to not have to worry. especially with how the LAST pair of headphones I bought from meh turned out.
@hugh0spaz There is always JB-Weld for guys with a man-bun who are too fancy for duct tape.
@hugh0spaz Lol
@samurayjack
Welcome to the fold!
Reviews bash fragility. What are people doing while wearing these?
@CraigDanger I bought some wired headphones on meh that snapped from putting them on.
@CraigDanger One review said that they don’t fit larger heads and it broke while putting it on.
@caffeine_dude @CraigDanger Are you talking about the infamous “Boom Swaps”? :
https://meh.com/forum/topics/boom-swap-over-ear-headphones
The boomers are in my meh-storation box awaiting frame repair.
@caffeine_dude @cfg83 @CraigDanger OK boomer :p
Fragile or not let’s see if they work well enough for mowing. It’s worth a shot at that VMP price.

@Fodder650 @pmarin +1 for WorkTunes.
@Fodder650 Wait, what’s the “VMP price”? I thought y’all mostly complained it didn’t have enough perks?
@Fodder650 @pmarin
My wife bought me a pair of these 7 years ago, and they’re still working great. I have to use in app sound boosting for audiobooks as they are a bit quiet, but I love them.

@stinks free shipping
@Fodder650 @thebigtverberg actually yes those are good too. i have some from another HD deal. the $29 AMZ is pretty good. These are true “hearing protectors” 25dB and also have speakers so you plug them into a device. Similar to the WorkTunes. I don’t think these have bluetooth but I rarely use that for audio. when I mow I use a vintage iPod!
@cinoclav @pmarin I too use my QC35’s when mowing, and yes, mine were 27 times the price of these, but have proven to be worth every cent when mowing for two hours, spending nights in noisy hospital rooms, driving on car trips with the wife, working at the office when the air handler in the mechanical room across the hall needed a belt change…
@Fodder650 @pmarin You need what I’ll be buying - a Ryobi Electric zero turn mower! Range says it’ll cut 2.5 acres. And super silent while cutting. Do you think Meh will sell it?
@Fodder650 @misobrilliant I definitely agree about going electric for mowing.
@pmarin Yeah I might need to go pull out my NASCAR headphones.
@stinks Hey hey I wasn’t one of those. I’ve been here since the Kickstarter and have taken advantage of it. I had so much from the Mehrathon that my mailman left a post office container on my doorstep. I did give it back.
@misobrilliant @pmarin They sold the electric bike. So maybe. Of course I have a steep hill. So no zero turn for me. I have my fifteen year old riding mower that works like a champ.

Getting them for my 5 yo. Will work great for long trips in the car.
@jayman007 Would be great if these could drown out the noise of a 5 yo.
Think of them like speaker docks… for your ears.
@wishlish my ears don’t detach for docking and I prefer to keep it that way. I’m somewhat attached to them.
So…Just like Bose?

Amazon reviews say these are not for people with big heads – that should leave out a lot of the people who post to forums here – especially posts with political comments.
If you are wondering if I am talking about you, then Yes, I am.
@phendrick
@phendrick Who me?
@Felton10 A definite maybe on that.
If I include the pair I just bought for $10 and the pair that I bought on sidedeal.com for $20 that USPS says they delivered but didn’t actually, what’s my average cost?

@Frcal Did someone say … invincible?
@cfg83 @Frcal OMG, nobody ever gets the joke when I say “I am EENVEENCEEBLE!” It’s like all four Pierce Brosnan films disappeared as soon as Daniel Craig took over.

$10 is soooooo tempting. Lo but I have a gazillion meh-phones, so I must forego the joy of cheap until I grow another pair of ears.
@cfg83 Just grow a pair and hit BUY!
@tweezak Ok, you win … organic-befuddled-lizard :
Aaaaaarg… I just bought these yesterday from Side Deal for $24 … Angry faces
@Chronicle Its okay though i was considering getting more for my kids… So…
/giphy rascally-faint-expansion
I don’t have high hopes for these lasting long since kids are getting them. But i wont have to worry about the streching out for larger heads.
What’s with the “VMP price” comments? Is there a code I’m not aware of? Been VMP since 2014.
@Rossome The non-VMP price adds $5 to ship them.
@ciabelle I’m well aware of the free shipping. Why are folks calling out VMP pricing on this item though?
@phendrick Fine. After every purchase I make I’ll come out here and post about the “VMP price” I just couldn’t resist.

For that reason I felt comfortable taking a chance on these headphones.

@tweezak never mind. They do according to the amazon description.
@tweezak Wow. What a way to bury a key feature!

As for mowing…I generally use a pair of wired earbuds (like the recent Titanium from Echobox) or truly wireless (not connected to each other) bluethooth buds under a pair of regular shooting range style hearing protectors. Sound somewhat “muffled” when noise cancelling is turned on? Err- hard pass.
Why can’t I only buy 2 and not 3???
@evangelionhd You can only buy 2 and not 3.
@cinoclav @evangelionhd I see what you did there!
Oh these crimson cans will really help divert attention from my ginger hair. And no one will see my ears! I hate my ears, but I’m getting over it. Thanks, meh.com!

Per the Amazon reviews…are these “breaking bad”?
/giphy helpful-scared-honey
For $10 why not? I would have if there was a mic included
In for two. Any thoughts on reinforcing the headband BEFORE it breaks? Like carbon fiber wrap but is actually functional?
/giphy designed-placid-point
In for one! You have to add a star (maybe 2 sometimes) when an item is reviewed @ $40 bucks and you’re paying $10.
On an unrelated note, there’s so much disinfectant in the air lately that I haven’t had a dirty thought in weeks!
@Trinityscrew On your unrelated note, that’s pretty good. Did you come up with that yourself? Anyway thx for the LOL.
EDIT not working that way for me. But it’s tougher. I can’t even fantasize about the people I’ve met during the day, because I don’t meet anyone!
@Trinityscrew working from home, I must say that I never knew how horny the squirrels in our backyard are. I tried to look away but it was more entertaining than my conference calls.
seems a good price, I’m willing to risk it, plus, fixing a broken band would be easy, broken connectors where it meets the ear part, less so (I’ve learned that the hard way)
@sixsmith I think there should be Meh duct-tape deals at least every couple of weeks…
Perhaps a two-fer: duct tape + super glue.
@pmarin super glue and baking soda is how I fixed my current bluetooth headphones, duct tape would end up getting caught in my hair
@sixsmith
@cinoclav interesting, wish I’d known about the graphite when I was fixing my glasses the other day, a smooth black blob would probably look a lot better haha
@sixsmith Plus you’d have a little extra working time.
Site won’t let me purchase a 3rd set.
Woe is greedy me. Sigh.
/giphy greedy woe
@f00l Site won’t let me purchase one set Sold out
@accelerator @f00l I think it was definitely an “empty-the-warehouse” deal at this price; surprised it lasted that long.
Meanwhile when we get our high-fiber stroopwaffels we ordered yesterday, we will have to see if that also becomes an “empty-the-bowels” deal as some predicted
@accelerator
I don’t think it’s sold out. I think maybe only available to VMP’s?
But since it didn’t sell out during VMP hour, they should open it up to everyone who’s interested.
@f00l Figures, I just canceled my membership. Just
Well, meh sucked me back into membership for a month. Picked up two for my flights to Seattle. Since they seem to break easy, one cup goes over your mouth and I can share the other with the wife?

@alanrfry - omg the seductive eyebrow wiggle. This one’s a winner. XD
For $10 bucks, I can replace my broken ones!

Got mine today, they sound pretty nice. The ANC feature works-ish, but even without it engaged they block out a lot of sound. Pretty sweet deal for ten buckaroos
@msayler cool. Look forward to trying mine out.
Wondering about gluing a hair-holding headband (u-shaped plastic thing) onto it pro-actively?
I just got mine – it’s charging now. Was able to slide it onto my noggin’ without feeling as if I’m pushing things, so have hope it will be ok.
Figured it was worth the risk at $10. Arrived today with left speaker non functioning.
DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
Just got mine and there’s a really bad background buzzing sound whenever I’m watching videos or the computer’s alerts ping.
@ltruelove is the buzzing present with the ANC both on or off?
@Stumpy91 Yeah. It’s there no matter what. Even if I turn the volume all the way down.
@Stumpy91 The only time it does go away is if there is no audio playing at all.
@ltruelove strange. You’d think it would have to do with the AMC and probably still is.
Another strange thing is my ANC LED stays on even with the power off.
@Stumpy91 The power button appears to control only bluetooth functionality. The noise cancelation works with wired audio as well and that functionality is controlled separately by that button.
KuoH
@kuoh that’s a good feature. That never occured to me.
Got mine today, so far so good. Except I ordered 1 Red and 1 Blue and I got 1 White and 1 Red. So my question is…
Did they get both orders wrong? Or only 1?
/giphy red white no blue
@JaBbA64
neither… the question on the order page says “what color do you want?” There is no mention of the fact that they will actually ship that color…
/giphy so obvious…
Amazon is getting stuff delivered in 1-2 days regardless of what their estimates are. Dave, sell meh to Amazon already…
/giphy shipping-delay-sellout
@Woody1
arggghhh no… not that!
/giphy steal your soul
@Woody1 Must be a different Amazon than I have that’s been getting me my Prime orders is 6-7 days.
@captkirkstny Followed your instructions and was able to register them. Thanks for the tip!
@therealjrn I wish I had known, I would have written you a check.
I wish I had money like you people do.
Oh dear, good help is so hard to find.
@therealjrn I feel very bad for you but I’ll get over it quickly. And done !
@jmbunkin Oh, thank you so very, very much. But I’m not looking for pity as I’m a very nice person as I’ve posted about before.
So instead of folks feeling bad, I just need people to send me some cash or maybe some merch.
@therealjrn You know, you sound very much like someone else who is on this forum. Are you related?
@Barney @therealjrn I feel so bad for both of you. Can I pay for your VMP every month? It’s the least I can do for such good people.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn I’m sure that jrn would greatly appreciate your kind offer, but I think the other person, who jrn must be related to, already has found some
suckerkind soul to pay for hers.@therealjrn Damn I just tossed two large bags of merch last Tuesday !
@jmbunkin I hope you at least tossed them into a donation bin so somebody could find them later and claim they were cast-offs. I wish you had tossed them near me so I could take them to the old people. I take stuff to the old people all the time, because that’s how nice of a person I am.
I also stop to pet all animals. Because I care.
I might have just used mine to listen to the Norwegian folk tale about the 3 billy goats gruff… they possibly sounded amazing.
So often you order crap off the internet and so greatly disappointing. Finally, I ordered something and am pleased with it!
KuoH
@kuoh Absolutely. Tried to fix it up with electrical tape and failed.
@jeremythegeek @kuoh Take a metal coat hanger, cut a good 6" or so length, bend it and tape it on with duct or package tape?
@newmanwj Too bad you have to jury rig it but thank goodness for duct tape.
@jeremythegeek @kuoh Now I’m tempted to deliberately break mine, just to glue them with epoxy to reinforce that weak spot.
Still haven’t gotten mine, and last tracking info was on May 6th. Was there a strike somewhere that I’m not aware of?
@JDCornwell Just got mine today. They’re still coming.
@JDCornwell Mine (and a couple a friend ordered) were last updated leaving New Jersey about 2 weeks ago. Anyone hear of a USPS truck catching fire in the Northeast in the past 2 weeks?

It’s lost at this point. I asked meh to check on it and they gave me a refund. If they do ever show up, the email said I can keep them, but I really don’t have any confidence of that happening.
@JDCornwell @platojello Like I said, mine (and a local friend who ordered as well) had ours finally show up this week.
@corrado @JDCornwell whomp whomp - my IRK is looking similar. This shopping partner ain’t no friend of mine, that’s for sure.
Quick review in case these show up in the meh peer to peer trash disposal a thon…
AptX via android: yup, sounds decent if you tune out the noise floor.
so they do have an aux in and it is noise free if the bluetooth radio functions are off or not ‘active’ on some phones.
they are bass heavy (like many headphones these days) but with eq correction they sound pretty nice especially for $10.
iphone: try bass reducer first, if that doesn’t fit the music use treble booster
android: depends on the phone and what eq but just give the high end some power over the bass.
mine haven’t snapped yet, but they are tight on my largish head. worst case I will try the warranty if they snap on me.
they feel good and look pretty nice for $10 comes with a storage bag, usb power cable and 3.5mm M/M aux. cable.
I haven’t really messed around with it much… so can’t claim that it is great or terrible yet.
bottom line: decent sounding headphones (wired) for $10 with equalization.
@thismyusername Sweet, thanks for pointers on putting it into non-BT mode for a quieter experience.
@Bandrik @thismyusername The BT is embarrassingly bad. If I didn’t read this review, I would have assumed they were defective. Worth $10? Probably, to have a junk pair for the shop or doing housework. Def. worth the $20 for the extra pair I got for the kids so they stop stealing my really good wired headphones.
These are supposed to have great battery life. Mine don’t. It seems a full charge only lasts maybe 6-7 hours.
Just got mine today (in for 2 pair).
@tomwitt2 I might do the same with the tape idea. Thanks for the idea
@Bandrik @tomwitt2 Thanks for which idea? Porn after hours?
@tomwitt2 Where do they dbreak? Mine have been good so far.
@Stumpy91 @tomwitt2 I’ll never tell~
@windfish113 The warranty is through their parent company www.zagg.com.
@jbirdjess
@chienfou That is actually a very important question.
@chienfou From what I’ve read, one nullifies the other. It’s noise canceling, not noise balancing. They literally cancel the outside noise so that you’re able to listen to your broadcast at a lower volume level. Because of this, they’re recommended to help reduce hearing damage.
@chienfou @cinoclav @chienfou As far as I understand, sound is caused by pressure waves on the eardrums.
KuoH
@cinoclav @kuoh Thanks to both of you for helping to reaffirm what seemed like it should be the case.
@SadEthnicChild @Valker zagg?? they make these?
@SadEthnicChild @Valker nevermind (load all messages in thread)
thanks i’ll be talking to them ’

Altigo Wireless Bluetooth Over Ear Headphones - Active Noise Cancelling
SNAPPED JUST TRYING TO PUT THEM ON
@Helmet0987 yep - here too!
@sporach Instead of saying you bought them from Meh, you should have said Mediocre or maybe the warranty is now under Mercatalyst.
Advise is to be VERY careful putting them on and taking them off.
thank you so much for this cool post.
Well, almost 2 years in and one pair broke tonight. Let’s see how good the promised 2 year Zagg warranty really is!
@corrado
/lame
@corrado
Well, THAT sux!
@corrado they may have it listed under Mercatalyst in their support documents on their end….maybe
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
