I love these, it was because of the original Samyang fire chicken noodles that I got back into eating instant noodles as an adult. Never tried the Quattro Cheese, so might have to give that a try.
@awk@sammydog01 Just finished a package of the Quattro Cheese. Next one I’ll try using half of the chili oil packet. It’s spicey all right, but better than Top-Ramen and bigger.
i’ve had regular, non-cheese buldak ramen and it’s pretty good. the non-cheese spicy version is extremely spicy. i like spicy stuff and it was too much for me, so hopefully these are not as extreme.
Bad girls and boys who don’t put away their ramen ladles will get a visit from the Buldok who steals them away. Forced to fold noodles, their salty tears drying the fresh noodles.
Ramen, yes. Ramen with cheese … NO. I’ll stick with the flat packs from Mama, to which I typically add a pack or two of the chickpea snacks and a tablespoon of dried diced onion. Sometimes I throw in some diced ham or bacon bits. But never cheese. Just no.
@TimW The varieties of Mama that I buy cook in three minutes by just dumping boiling water in the bowl with the noodles and seasoning, and covering it. I use the nifty vacuum-insulated bowls, and I dump the added goodies in before the boiling water. The chickpeas don’t soften a lot, but they don’t start off rock hard either; it works out OK. Very fast, minimal brain function required, very effective in restoring overall me-system function.
@hchavers These come with 2 different flavor packs(the soup mix plus a pack with chili oil stuff) and are a bit bigger in size than something like Maruchan. So slightly more flavor, but also probably double the amount of noodles per packet, at least for the flat pack variety. I usually buy them at a Korean grocery store near where I live, but this is a better price.
@gnafuthemeh@mehcuda67@phendrick
Or maybe the aroma presented when the packets are opened; lots of ramen smells rank even when fresh, until the water goes in.
@awk@doggone@yeppers Yep because people with life threatening allergies eat random shit from the internet without checking the label. Totally saved a life.
@awk@mehty@yeppers Given the questionable nature of the “Himalayan pink salt” and several other current inexplicable fads like it, I am not surprised to see someone saying “Ours ain’t got that shit.”
If you like spicy food these are great, and even if you don’t you can toss away the spicy package that comes with it, and still have the cheese and chicken flavor.
@PooltoyWolf These are the least spicy flavors in the line, and they sell billions of packs worldwide (all the flavors)… so I imagine it’s the upcoming best-by date.
For the record the noodles get rancid really fast. I’ve bought packs that were already rancid before the date. I just use the sauce and powder with other noodles and/or rice cakes.
@PooltoyWolf Something ultra-strange just happened. For a brief while, every single message that I opened in my Outlook email, even though the headings were different, had this message from you as the content! Weirdest thing ever! I finally shut down my phone, went to my iPad and opened my email there, and it was fixed. But I’m baffled!
@pakopako@PooltoyWolf Yep, they are deep-fried, to dry and par-cook them in one step. Occasionally I’ll find a seasoning packet that’s turned hard because moisture got in, but it’s almost always the noodles that go super stinky.
I suppose it’s somewhat comforting to know that with all those processed ingredients, something in there is capable of chemically changing over time.
@awk@pakopako@yakkoTDI To be fair, things like your standard Maruchan and Nissin ramen packs are totally edible WAY past their best by dates. I’ve eaten tons of those more than a year expired and they only tasted a bit less flavorful. These more premium types might be different!
@Trinityscrew It’s a meh price at Meh. My local grocery ‘bargain’ liqidation-but-dont-call-us-liquidation-or-people-will-assume-everything-is-expired store has Buldak original and cheese at roughly this range.
I regularly stock this brand in my pantry. The cheese is not my favorite, but this is a great price compared to what you’ll see in Wegmans or any of the Asian food markets. Grabbing the cup versions as they tend to be pretty pricey for these more premium brands.
I do not like the carbonara one but my younger sister does.
It’s nice when meh offers food that is so clearly not for me that I’m not even tempted. Can’t handle high levels of spice and processed “cheese” gives me migraines. But the junk-food-loving teenager who still lives inside me wishes he could try these.
It’s funny. As soon as I saw what was for sale today I thought “Yuck”! Then I immediately thought “I bet the guys are gonna go for this one though”. Most of you seem to agree that these are good and I believe that. What I find funny is, that you don’t even know what the ingredients are, but you’re all in.
Quite a contrast from the other things that are offered to ingest. I do look at the Community comments on food items (and everything else) and I do value them. This was a hard no right off the bat for me. But what do I know? I’m just some old lady.
Why wasn’t the last photo this package with the mascot replaced with Irk?
The outline is exactly the same. Heck, I’m worried Irk is sneaking up on the [whatever that is] to, um, steal some noodles? Is there where Irk went? To a life of crime?
@djslack I assumed that anyone who can’t find the ingredients online doesn’t have internet so I posted links for them to click.
DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT?
@chienfou@djslack It was sarcasm. Everyone was bitching about not knowing the ingredients when all it took was a 30 second search to look them up. On the internet. DO YOU PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND SARCASM?
/giphy I give up
@ES2X1 Isn’t that when you get one of each?
(Of course, at this point, half of the decision has already been made for you. If you wait a little bit longer, they might be down to just one flavor left.)

@djslack@kfdavila@vikhr agreed - no mention of vegetarian - the noodles come with two additions - the powder seasoning (most likely contains chicken ingredients) and the sauce packet (got me on this - I grew up with Top Ramen and sodium) - I will say this - larger noodle serving than the above mention - spicy is for real; end of the day - decent processed ramen considering the alternatives
My GF’s older kid is super into trying these spicy ramens, presumably due to the influence of YouTube, so if I don’t like them he probably will.
/giphy credible-uncanny-caterpillar
Got mine in the other day, had a pack of quattro cheese for lunch today. What a delight! Chewy thick noodles almost like lo mein, and a noticeable but really delightful amount of heat. Another level from what I get at the grocery around here. I wish I had more flavors, except I won’t eat the ones I’ve got by the best by date. But absolutely bring us more of these later if you get them!
I’ve been eating top ramen my entire life. Never by choice. Desperate times… you know. This deal made my obvious failures in life affordable and somewhat palatable.
Three cheers to ramen! Walter White was right… never question food goods found in the hardware isle.
@kyanostiger@mikey@schtulin I couldn’t find the exact time from manufacture to best by dates online but based on the stuff I have in my pantry it’s at least a year. And you guys are whining about a few days. Do you think it’s fine one day and then inedible the next day? Seriously? Everything I find online says it’s fine for at least a year past the best by date. JUST FUCKING EAT IT.
I wish Meh would stop selling food, it just makes me extra pissy.
/giphy get off my lawn
@kyanostiger@mikey@sammydog01 It’s less about the few days and more about the fact that they’re selling a product that is already past its date. That just shouldn’t happen.
@kyanostiger@sammydog01@schtulin I mean it didn’t stop me from trying one of them (too spicy for me) but I’m not going to offer it to friends that like spicy stuff and then argue with them that it’s still good.
@Kyeh@mikey@sammydog01@schtulin
Got some real angry dead goats in here for people saying nothing more than “Hey we received something different than was advertised.”
People haven’t even said they wouldn’t still eat it.
@kyanostiger@mikey@sammydog01@schtulin
mikey did…
It’s just tiresome that people get SO worked up about the best-by dates. If it bothers you then don’t buy food on Meh, because it’s usually why they have that food for sale - because it’s approaching the best-buy date.
Customer service is a click away above, if you want to complain to the people in charge.
True that goats eat a lot of things that you probably wouldn’t, but I don’t see what else being “ex-goats” has to do with it.
@mikey@sammydog01@schtulin @kyanostiger Okay, okay - I know how to read, I just glossed over it. SORRY. Same point, anyway - he could let his friends decide for themselves whether they want to take a chance. Several people here have said they’re really good.
@therealjrn Congrats? I’ve buying the cheap stuff and using miso easy instead of the packets that came with it. Then adding stir fried vegetables. I have to figure out what to do with all the little chicken packets.
@jamorr03 If you live in or near a major metropolitan area, check the larger Asian groceries there. Noods like these tend to be far more economical in those stores than online, in my experience. Here in Houston, HMart has many flavors from this brand, and a bunch of others. We’re really fond of several of the Mama brand ones from Indonesia.
Holy cow, these are great. Got carbonara, it’s spicier than I expected; Good for me, too much for my partner.
I’m a big dumb dummy and didn’t properly read/understand the directions the first or second times. I filled it up to the line with boiling water, waited four minutes, then added 3 tablespoons of water before stirring in the powder and sauce packets. This resulted in virtually no cheese flavor (too diluted) and excessive spice (spicy oils stay in suspension with the water and hit a lot harder). For the second one I tried using less of the sauce packet, with very little discernable change. They were still an okay very spicy ramen soup, but I wasn’t impressed. I didn’t notice the drain holes in the lid until the third one, and realized I was supposed to drain off all but three tablespoons of water before adding the packets. Properly prepared, these are now easily among my favorite instant noodles.
I wish Meh was upfront about the 5/15 best-by dates. Was going to share it with family. I’ll still eat them though, Wonder how out of date today’s slim jims are
Got mine today and tried the spicy chicken cheese. Did NOT taste like something made by stirring boiling water and powder. Good stuff. Went all in on the spicy packet and it was indeed hot, although nose did not run until I turned it up and finished the juice in the bottom of the bowl.
@customers Hey, we’ve got ramen back on Meh today - If you’ve had a chance to try yours, we’d love to hear how you like it in today’s topic, especially if you’ve got any cooking tips or recipe ideas. And if you’re feeling daring, we’ve added the 2x spicy to the mix, along with the cheese and carbonara flavors.
I bought some of these last time & they are pretty decent. Nice & cheesy…just needed a little kick for my taste so I added a little hot sauce to the cup before adding the water. I have tried these with a little chicken for a protein boost, which was pretty dang good too. I did place an order for the Carbonara cups today…curious to see how they taste…
I bought the spicy cheezy big bowls a few weeks ago; tried one, was tasty and made it through even with the full sauce compliment. I’ll probably try 3/4 spicy next time; Since I don’t really need the ‘instant’ cups/bowls I bought at home, I bought some traditional packaged ones to use at home during the mehrathon, so I can bring the instant bowls to work.
One idea-- If you pick up a pack of just-noodles at your local Asian market, you can put half the spicy packet in today, then the other half in some generic ramen tomorrow
I’d had this buldak before, and love the flavor. It’s definitely spicy - their normal spicy is still very spicy by American standards.
I find that adding the sauce/cheese to the noodles and then melting mozzarella cheese on top can offset the spiciness, and it’s a complementary flavor. I’m sure one could do more with it with some effort…but if I wanted effort, I probably wouldn’t be buying instant buldak.
I’ve gotten quattro last time, as I haven’t had them yet. Before this, though, I’ve tasted pretty much all the other flavors that made it to the states that I am aware of at the time (OG, 2x, cheese, black bean, carbonara, kimchi…)
It’s much less spicy than the OG, and maybe a little less (?) than bagged carbonara one. Or my taste buds may be playing tricks on me.
If you’re not into spicy stuff and think anything hotter than the mild Taco Bell packet is absolutely scorching your tongue, though, every single one of these will leave you crying.
Samyang Buldak is good, period. The items Meh offered recently lived up to the brand’s existing good reputation – delicious and SPICY. The single-cheese cups were perhaps a little spicier while the quattro-cheese packets. Add a few veggies and/or a little meat to either and they are TO DIE FOR.

Ramen FTW! They are not noodling around with food deals!
Yassssss. Meh is back to posting weird cool stuff.
I love these, it was because of the original Samyang fire chicken noodles that I got back into eating instant noodles as an adult. Never tried the Quattro Cheese, so might have to give that a try.
@awk Somehow cheese ramen sounded gross then I remembered mac and cheese is amazing. So report back?
@awk @sammydog01 Just finished a package of the Quattro Cheese. Next one I’ll try using half of the chili oil packet. It’s spicey all right, but better than Top-Ramen and bigger.
What the heck, I’ll bite. Never had these before.
At last, a use for mediocritees - dunk them in ice water, wring them out, apply to face while eating these noodles.
i’ve had regular, non-cheese buldak ramen and it’s pretty good. the non-cheese spicy version is extremely spicy. i like spicy stuff and it was too much for me, so hopefully these are not as extreme.

@werehatrack adding chickpea snacks to ramen sounds interesting! Do u add it while cooking, or after it’s done cooking?
@TimW The varieties of Mama that I buy cook in three minutes by just dumping boiling water in the bowl with the noodles and seasoning, and covering it. I use the nifty vacuum-insulated bowls, and I dump the added goodies in before the boiling water. The chickpeas don’t soften a lot, but they don’t start off rock hard either; it works out OK. Ummm… I prefer the $.25 Ramon (6 for $1.50) and add crushed red pepper. The chicken flavor probably comes from the same Chinese field.
@hchavers “field” = “laboratory”?
I can’t help but think of XKCD 37…
@gnafuthemeh OK…
To save others the trouble:
@gnafuthemeh @phendrick I suspect spicy ass-noodles describes the next day.
@gnafuthemeh @mehcuda67 @phendrick
Or maybe the aroma presented when the packets are opened; lots of ramen smells rank even when fresh, until the water goes in.
Are there ingredients listed somewhere?
@yeppers Probably. Somewhere.
But not here, or on the A’zon links.
Not at WallyWorld.
@yeppers I found a seller on Amazon with pictures of the Quattro Cheese labels: https://a.co/d/cbDrscQ
@awk @yeppers Lots of allergens listed, including peanuts. You might have saved a life today! Thanks for sharing.
@awk @doggone @yeppers Yep because people with life threatening allergies eat random shit from the internet without checking the label. Totally saved a life.
@awk @yeppers “edible common salt” listed. That’s a first for me! i
@awk @mehty @yeppers Given the questionable nature of the “Himalayan pink salt” and several other current inexplicable fads like it, I am not surprised to see someone saying “Ours ain’t got that shit.”
@awk Thanks!
Such a shame! I would absolutely be all over these IF they weren’t spicy! Meh. (I wonder if their spiciness is the reason they’re here…)
@PooltoyWolf One Amazon reviewer said:
@Kyeh That’s good news! There’s a variety I really like from the local Asian market that I do that with.
@awk @PooltoyWolf wait… the noodles get rancid? I suppose they are deep fried/oil infused.
@awk @pakopako @PooltoyWolf
You must be new to ramen noodles.
@pakopako @PooltoyWolf Yep, they are deep-fried, to dry and par-cook them in one step. Occasionally I’ll find a seasoning packet that’s turned hard because moisture got in, but it’s almost always the noodles that go super stinky.
I suppose it’s somewhat comforting to know that with all those processed ingredients, something in there is capable of chemically changing over time.
@Kyeh I have no idea! Heh
@awk @pakopako @yakkoTDI To be fair, things like your standard Maruchan and Nissin ramen packs are totally edible WAY past their best by dates. I’ve eaten tons of those more than a year expired and they only tasted a bit less flavorful. These more premium types might be different!
@PooltoyWolf
@awk @PooltoyWolf @yakkoTDI Ah. That’s what I’m used to.
No Ingredient list that I could find. That is Always important, especially the sodium content.
@Mandamm You’re looking at instant ramen
Just assume that sodium=very yes
@heartbleed @Mandamm 1920 mg of sodium in a Quattro Cheese pack.
@heartbleed @Mandamm MSG has “sodium” in the name!
They are quite hot.
If you’re not good at spicy stuff—prepare your bungholes.
(But if you CAN handle it, they’re quite tasty.)
Are they halal?
@bass_pumped It’s the fourth bullet from the top. It says “halal” right there. Should be good to go!
@bass_pumped yes Halal. I have some sitting in my pantry right now. And you can see the halal symbol in the photos.
Ramen (Maruchan and others) is 24 cents a pack. Ramen is supposed to be REALLY CHEAP. And it should be REALLY CHEAPERER on meh.
Maybe this is a “good” price for this brand, but it’s expensive for ramen noodles.
@Trinityscrew It’s a meh price at Meh. My local grocery ‘bargain’ liqidation-but-dont-call-us-liquidation-or-people-will-assume-everything-is-expired store has Buldak original and cheese at roughly this range.

@xobzoo I would, but that would be a bad financial decision lol. I ended up going for the Quattro Cheese bags - more bang for my buck

You could check the ingredients if you have internet.
@djslack Yeah, I’ve never seen their ingredients list mention any sort of meat or meat fat clearly…but…it also doesn’t claim to be Vegetarian.
@djslack @kfdavila Every Buldak noodles contain concentrated chicken extract, and quattro cheese one also contains beef/pork extract.

But nothing wrong with variety. Bring all the flavors!
@djslack had my first pack of Quattro tonight… only had to blow my nose 5 or 6 times!
I’ve been eating top ramen my entire life. Never by choice. Desperate times… you know. This deal made my obvious failures in life affordable and somewhat palatable.
Three cheers to ramen! Walter White was right… never question food goods found in the hardware isle.
The ones I received are best by 6/15, 8 days sooner than was advertised.
@kyanostiger Then it is good you’ve already received them. Mine are still in “Processing” so it will probably be 8+ days before they arrive.
@kyanostiger @sdb Same. I mean I would assume the shelf life of an instant noodle far exceeds the printed date but also GIMME MUH SPICY NOODS
@kyanostiger hey, mine too!
@kyanostiger The ones I received were already past the best-by date. The date on mine was 5/15…
@kyanostiger @schtulin Same here. 5/15
@kyanostiger @mikey @schtulin I couldn’t find the exact time from manufacture to best by dates online but based on the stuff I have in my pantry it’s at least a year.
@kyanostiger @mikey @sammydog01 It’s less about the few days and more about the fact that they’re selling a product that is already past its date. That just shouldn’t happen.
@kyanostiger @sammydog01 @schtulin I mean it didn’t stop me from trying one of them (too spicy for me) but I’m not going to offer it to friends that like spicy stuff and then argue with them that it’s still good.
/giphy force feeding
@kyanostiger @mikey @sammydog01 @schtulin But maybe some of your friends are more enlightened than you are:
Food Expiration Dates Are a Hoax and You’re Dumb to Believe Them
https://www.phillymag.com/news/2019/01/12/food-expiration-dates-hoax/
@Kyeh @mikey @sammydog01 @schtulin
Got some real angry dead goats in here for people saying nothing more than “Hey we received something different than was advertised.”
People haven’t even said they wouldn’t still eat it.
@kyanostiger @mikey @sammydog01 @schtulin
mikey did…
It’s just tiresome that people get SO worked up about the best-by dates.
@kyanostiger @Kyeh @mikey @sammydog01 @schtulin
You say that like you wish you were a goat, kid.
@Kyeh @mikey @sammydog01 @schtulin Mikey said they tried one and it was too spicy for them, they just weren’t going to offer it to a friend.
@mikey @sammydog01 @schtulin
@kyanostiger Okay, okay - I know how to read, I just glossed over it. SORRY. Same point, anyway - he could let his friends decide for themselves whether they want to take a chance. Several people here have said they’re really good.
@kyanostiger @Kyeh @mikey @sammydog01 @schtulin Once a goat, always a goat.
@kyanostiger @Kyeh @sammydog01 @schtulin @therealjrn This was nice, y’all. I’m glad we sorted this out.
I just realized I bought 20 pounds of ramen. That is a prodigious amount of ramen.
@therealjrn Congrats? I’ve buying the cheap stuff and using miso easy instead of the packets that came with it. Then adding stir fried vegetables. I have to figure out what to do with all the little chicken packets.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn
@sammydog01 @therealjrn I regularly add stuff; nearly always dried onion, sometimes garlic, sometimes bacon bits, etc.
Where my noods at?
Spicy enough to give me the hiccups; 10/10.
I really wish I would have ordered more, considering the prices I’m seeing elsewhere.
What are the cups made from?
crappy non recyclable styrofoam?
@HomerPage They are paper cups and even have a place to pop holes in the lid to drain. Fancy Koreans.
Seriously, buy these.
@customers How’s your ramen supply doing? Head over to Meh today to stock up on more (curry flavored this time!) and let the community know what you think about the ones you got last time.
