@lljk One of the lamp photos shows it charging an iPhone 4, This implies that it was originally released about the same time as the iPhone 4. As this was before the advent of gigantor phones, there would have been no need to output high amperage. I’m guessing the USP port just supplies 1.0 amps.
@lljk, turns out that @squishybrain’s guess is correct: 5W (which is 1A and 5V).
It took some searching, but I eventually found this: https://secure.img.wfcdn.com/docresources/37696/26/268170.pdf (second page, under Electrical System, in the bottom third of the page). Interesting that they call it USB 3.0 even tho it is limited to 5W.
I’ve had a weak back since about a week back. Will this help me grow my medical vegetables? (I haven’t smoked in like 30 years, but that medical angle seems not to be a joke.)
Oooh. this will help with my glaucoma?
@Collin1000 That really helped out. I couldn’t find any dimensions for the base or the stem, but the photo gives me enough info to work with. Many thanks!
@magic_cave That half the printer is in shadow tells you it isn’t that bright. I looked up lumens to incandescent watts and found, depending on the chart, 35-40 so it is pretty dim. A 100 watt (traditional bulb) is around 1500 lumens.
@medz you likely already have half the solution. That stack of USB battery banks you bought here on Meh.
The other half can regularly be found in many variants but the following run about a buck a piece if you’re willing to wait for China… (if you prefer more reputable… you wouldn’t be here… but Goal Zero also sells USB light sticks for about 10 bucks)
Looks like it cannot fast-charge a USB-C phone, like a Pixel, since this requires 18W. Charger seems to draw 7W max and having a max charging rate of 5W. Too bad.
It will still charge (most) phones and tablets, just not very quickly. While I normally use fast chargers, my Nexus 5x will charge fully with a 5W adaptor if left overnight.
Not very bright - looking at this in what I know best - old style lightbulbs - it translates into about 35-40ish watts incandescent (per a chart anyway). I, personally would like a 100watt equivalent bulb which would be like 1500 or so lumens or 25 LED watts.
@awkIn mathematics, a manifold is a topological space that locally resembles Euclidean space near each point. More precisely, each point of an n-dimensional manifold has a neighbourhood that is homeomorphic to the Euclidean space of dimension n. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manifold
OK, only because that damned VMP survives, looking at that USB port alignment and the details on the Amazon photo, these are far from high end fit & finish.
But the 12 volt input works nicely for the off grid solar powered cabin we’re planning…
I also noticed the 12v input and am buying them to use in our travel trailer (RV). They’ll be hacked up a bit for whatever I can manage to fab for a mount, but cheap enough that I won’t cry if I totally fubar it. If I can do it and keep the USB charging port all the better.
@sligett decision for me will be whether to spice in a different connector (to go straight to 12 volts) to that wall wart cable or attempt to open up the base and hard wire it in… photos please if anyone succeeds in cleanly opening up the base.
@HELLOALICE I wonder the same so I found one site: diyphotography.net and under IKEA hack: warm up LED current lighting it gave an interesting idea but unsure it would work with the lamp.
I seem to be collecting desk lamps that don’t really work out the way I want. These are cheap enough that I won’t feel bad if they don’t work out, either. thoughtful-uneasy-house Yep, that sounds about right.
“Flexible neck lets you point it right in the face of the scumbag you’re interrogating about the whereabouts of Ms. Aileen Combs” - Who is Aileen Combs? I googled, but didn’t see anything that popped out at me. movie character maybe?
@afrojosh that is unfortunate. We all hate leaving money on the table, perhaps especially when buying from Meh.com. However, doesn’t the sales tax in Taxachusetts pretty much equal it all out in the end?
So these arrived today. It is a good thing I intend these for our off grid solar powered cabin and not gifts… or I’d be contacting @woodhouse. The bases are scratched to hell due to the lamp being packed in the box with the lamp head bent down and touching the base.
The USB port is nothing pretty, electronic-wise. With zero load it is over-outage, about 5.25 volts. Put a 1 amp draw on it and it goes under-voltage, about 4.9 volts.
I recieved my lights monday also and I happen to love them .I make jewelry and enjoy carving so these lights with the 3 settings for the lights brightness and a swiveling neck make it perfect to work with .I am 100% satisfied with my purchase .The usb port for charging is a nice plus that I can use to charge my phone , tablet or blue tooth speaker . @RedOak hey the reference to the solar panel and charging it with my table top lamp with usb outlet was my idea of humor . I guess I could have put some little{ lol }by the comment but I honestly thought noone would take it seriuosly, I was wrong about that !!!Still love,love, love my light Meh!!!

Might actually be useful… meh?
@mdszy thought the same thing . . . what’s your angle, meh?
Bright deal - light years ahead
@AttyVette Only dim wits would pass on this deal!
@mike808 only dim wits who want a dim light… as dim it is (around 35-40 old style light bulb watts)
@AttyVette What LED you to that conclusion?
@sligett oh I don’t know seemed like I just came to this bright ( loosely speaking of course) conclusion
How much power does it output via USB?
@lljk One of the lamp photos shows it charging an iPhone 4, This implies that it was originally released about the same time as the iPhone 4. As this was before the advent of gigantor phones, there would have been no need to output high amperage. I’m guessing the USP port just supplies 1.0 amps.

@baqui63 That’s not interesting… It’s a lie.
@bjvangundy @baqui63 What is the minimum power requirement in the USB 3.0 specification?
Weak. I would’ve bought it if it pushed at least 2.4 amps. Oh well.
@Al_Coholic You have a point. My bad, as I was confuzzeling the USB 3.0 spec itself and the optional parts of it (like the charging spec).
@bjvangundy, given that 900 < 1000 (or alternatively, 5>4.5) it is neither interesting nor a lie.
I wish bottle openers came on more products.
I’m confused.

Very tempting, but keeping the wallet closed until something irresistible appears.
@lordbowen You do know this is meh.com, right?
@accelerator Yes. That’s why I know something irresistible is right around the corner.
The picture you’re likely looking for is over on Amazon. How bright is the damn thing?

@Collin1000 That really helped out. I couldn’t find any dimensions for the base or the stem, but the photo gives me enough info to work with. Many thanks!

I was excited until it said I had to plug them into an outlet…
@sp3ar Agreed. When are they gonna make a light+charger that works without any power source?
@medz you likely already have half the solution. That stack of USB battery banks you bought here on Meh.
The other half can regularly be found in many variants but the following run about a buck a piece if you’re willing to wait for China… (if you prefer more reputable… you wouldn’t be here… but Goal Zero also sells USB light sticks for about 10 bucks)
@RedOak still have to plug it into a power source from time to time.
Edit: oh snap…I should have bought that solar backpack…no power outlet required!
No Bluetooth? WTF?
Looks like it cannot fast-charge a USB-C phone, like a Pixel, since this requires 18W. Charger seems to draw 7W max and having a max charging rate of 5W. Too bad.
@dude This is correct. Technical specs of it are here: https://secure.img.wfcdn.com/docresources/37696/26/268170.pdf

@dude getting kinda picky. This is Meh.
Is this the kind of led light that messes with melatonin?
@mossygreen It is LED so yes.
At first I thought this was a portable lamp and battery charging hybrid. Since it’s not, I gotta click meh.
I don’t like the idea of a device charging next to my head while I sleep. I’d rather use that nightstand space for a Bubba thermos.
@JT954 What’s in the thermos?
@2many2no Let’s hope it’s not Bubba.
@2many2no Water. Just water.
Meh, wattever.
What color light does it provide?
@PhysAssist The kind that’s not dark.
@PhysAssist unnatural bluish-white, of course
@PhysAssist CRI 80, OK for reading, but not artwork.

25,000 hours is a bit under 3 years. So, 8 hours a day, you’re looking at about 8 and a half years of light.
Imagine how much that would cost in the 1800s.
meh.com says input is 12V, Ammy description says 120V (seems more likely if no adapter is mentioned.) Any mehmber got one & know fer shur?
@phendrick the 6th picture depicts an ac adapter.
@no1 Thanks, I missed that.
So both were right – 120 v to 12 v adapter, then 12 v from adapter to lamp.
Looks like a good rechargeable 12 v battery would make this a lot more versatile (with the right connector).
…could have at least thrown in a couple USB cables at $7.50 each lamp!
OK, only because that damned VMP survives, looking at that USB port alignment and the details on the Amazon photo, these are far from high end fit & finish.

Mine arrived Monday in time to setup for my boys to do their homework.
I asked them tonight after 2 days of use what they think. “On the low setting it’s very nice, the other 2 settings are bright!”
I like the white light it puts out.
Totally agree with @RedOak. One of my black lamps was scratched like crazy, not as bad as @RedOak, but still disappointed.
Hey Meh folk, is this the best place to post reviews of Meh buys?
@gustador sure, the most likely place to discuss the product is where we brought it.
And it is easy to land here by clicking on your orders at the top of the screen and then the discuss button in the order.
@gustador Here works or the goat thread if you’re unhappy. Right @DrunkCat?
