@SomeOmega damn not first on that. But I'd love another up camera. What idlovw even more is a return address label... ;) I seem to have used mine on a birthday gift for meh.
@cengland0 I dunno, though I'm LED to believe that this is meh. I mean, whose dim idea was it to offer two items on a site that purports to sell one item a day anyways?!
@elpepe I love using the lights with my son when he's sleeping. The hall light wakes him up. The iPhone screen light is too bright. This light doesn't seem to bother him when he is sleeping.
@Daven7 I thought I remembered either $4 or two for $8.. sneaky.. didn't someone already say they were the same price at target the last time? now that'd mean they're cheaper at target...
Well fuck, yet again we find ourselves at the corner of impulsivity and regret and we near that janky ass pawn shop on the wrong side of town. The dark and scary fucking alley however is suddenly bright and welcoming...that is until we see Twofer Tuesday in full light. She's a terribly ugly individual and one that once she is seen she shall never be unseen. I shall buy lights only so that the darkness returns and the status quo is regained.
@studerc I bought it to keep my record going. Still winning the game. Something has been coming from meh everyday of the year so far... And the wife hasn't killed or divorced me yet.
@sohmageek do you mean something has been on its way to your house continuosly this year, or that you bought everything Meh has sold this year? Either way, I think your order number should be tolerant-codependent-spouse
@mehdaf something has continually been in shipment or waiting to be shipped. I have NOT purchased everything they sold. Some of it is just plain old crap. Others I have no use for ever. Like the camera yesterday. I have a nice phone that takes good enough pics :)
I'm a loathsome-zealous-tiger who loves to light up the night! Actually, I bought these last time, (returned the cameras) and now I've bought more because I think they're pretty decent for when the power goes out and stuff. Let's skip the cameras this time, though, Mkay?
I read the comments before I ordered last time and was expecting a not-so-bright lantern, but the two I bought are far dimmer than I thought possible...I couldn't imagine being able to use one even to read in a tent from more than 1 or 2 feet away. they are literally as bright as a night light, and somehow need 4 aa batteries to boot.
@mmh6 Incandescent night lights vary quite a bit in how much light gets out. A one watt bulb could conceivably be this bright, a four watt bulb might be dimmer.
A 60 watt incandescent light bulb is about 800 lumens, so you would need 38 of these to be equivalent to one 60 watt bulb.
I am afraid I will get cameras again as well JK. Have enough already. Couldn't read with one but good for power outages. Kindle fire lights up my books. So, Meh
@AnnaB Exactly. That's the reason I bought the last time. I don't need to be able to read the NYTimes by it, just not to fall over the ottoman or the dog on the way to the bathroom if the power goes out. Much safer than candles and better light as well.
@RedOak Caution, do not try this in my neighborhood. One of our local skunks has an unusual fur pattern. The front paws are bright white, and the underside of the tail is bright white. When it runs, the white parts flash in and out of view like front and rear strobe lights. When it is relaxing, the tail is black side up, and its incredibly long black fur can cover its front feet.
The species is "striped skunk", but this one sometimes looks like a harmless black shadow.
I first saw this skunk when it was young enough to run away from me. There was also another one that was the same age, so I assume it was a littermate. I call the littermate "Norm", because it had the normal stripe pattern. I call the unusual one "Not A. Cat", because the first time anyone sees it in the yard, they think it is a cat (including me). One of the juvenile skunk vocalizations sounds vaguely like tags on a collar rattling.
I've seen Norm relatively recently, I haven't seen Not A. Cat in a few months. Skunk behavior changes once the skunk is old enough to spray and knows it. When Norm stopped running away from me, I knew it was time for me to walk slowly and carefully away from Norm.
@hamjudo hah! The off-the-grid wilds property where we camp has a neighbor who gives safe harbor to abandoned baby 'coons. After keeping them (for too long) she takes them another 10-15 miles out to release them.
Those damned adolescent 'coons have no fear of people. They simply hiss at you if you try to shoo them out of your stuff! We've been tempted to try paint ball or airsoft guns but I suspect they'd simply hiss at us even more.
We need more preditor-coyotes to keep things in balance.
@RedOak There were coyotes living in our neighborhood for a couple years. Without a million bunnies, ground hogs, and raccoon, we had a noticeably larger variety of birds and plants in the woods and yard.
One of the neighbors up the road panicked about them, and had them trapped. Most new plants in our wild sections are invasive species that deer, bunnies, ground hogs, and raccoon don't want to eat.
I did manage to get a colony of milk weed growing. So at least we have an occasional monarch butterfly.
Zbattery tells me that an Eveready AA battery has about 2.9 watt hours. http://www.zbattery.com/zbattery/batteryinfo.html 4 of them would be 11.6 watt hours. Divide that by 53 hours, and we see about 200 milliwatts. It is spread over the full circle, rather than focused on a tiny spot, so it will be pretty dim.
This is good for camping when you don't want to ruin the other camper's night vision. During a power failure, this will give you enough light so you won't step on the cat, unless the cat is approximately the same color as the carpeting. If your cat matches your carpeting, this is not the light for you.
Despite what you may have heard, turning one of these on when the sun is shining, does not actually make the world get darker.
Bought two in February. I think I ended up with an IP camera for $20 due to a shipping mistake as a bonus. My kids love these for their cushion forts. The camera is keeping watch over the Lakehouse. Meh!
As others have said, they're not very bright, but they have a second strike against them in that they don't scatter the light well. They're more like an LED flashlight that shines in a 360 degree horizontal circle. The light is harsh white also. I tried them camping and they didn't illuminate much outside which wasn't a surprise, but they also didn't illuminate much inside a small 3-4 person tent. They were cheap, yet still disappointing.
@editorkid those gloves were the worst quality thing I have purchased here. Aside from not even being close to the right size, one of the pairs had a flaw (hole) in the thumb web. Meh suggested that I contact the glove company and I did. They sent a new one which was marginally better quality but still far too small. However the low price made the disappointment more palatable. I was more disappointed in those white outdoor speakers, which appear to have good build quality but sound terrible enough that they will sit in their boxes taking up basement space for a long time...
My hairdryer blew a circuit the other day and this came in handy to see which one needed to be reset. Gave one to my Uncle, as I was worried his cat would knock over a lit kerosene lamp. He said it was good to have when he lost power recently during a sudden storm. Helped prevent a house fire.
I bought these before and found them extremely meh...can't recommend really. They don't give out enough light to actually do anything with...more like a night light for camping. I modified one with a high power led and it just got harsh, too many artifacts to actually see well.
I bought these last time they went on sale. They are the definition of meh. My intention was to use them for illumination during hurricanes and blackouts (darn squirrels!). Between the Lumens and the way those Lumens are distributed, they are only useful for illuminating a table or a tent.
I got these last time and nearly killed myself trying to get to the bath house. the translucent top shines in your face and totally destroys any night vision of a darkened path. As mentioned above they are ok to illuminate the inside of a tent though.
@cengland0 I'm not saying it's some terrible insult or something. Just curious if anyone could share the reasoning behind the change. If it's just "for the luls", that's cool; it's their site.
Bought these last time on the sole purpose of letting my kids play with them. Still running strong. They've been used as seats, rockets and hammers in hammer throwing contests. Still burning brightly. No idea if they're good for camping.
Ordered these at the time of the IP Cam mixup. Finally took them camping with me a month ago. Oddly enough, they illuminate the area better when they are upside down.
Probably not worth the $10, but better than nothing.
I bought these last time. They really are mediocre. A couple weeks later I got 2 similar ones for free, just $4.99 shipping, from 13 Deals. They are way better than these. They have a flashlight function, radio, speaker, and head phone jack. The grand kids got them and love them. These.........meh.
One of my first Woots ever. Used one camping last weekend....batteries had been in there for 2 years and it was still bright! Also, I still have an entire box of these unopened.
I have to say... I was hoping this came in yesterday Wednesdays are better to complain... but it came in today, and it was LED area lights... Not this, not that Not something that sucks... But I got what I actually what I ordered! Thanks!

Those eyebrows are making me crave some deep dish....
@thismyusername I think it has Hut in the name.
Do I get a IP cam if I order this?
@SomeOmega damn not first on that. But I'd love another up camera. What idlovw even more is a return address label... ;) I seem to have used mine on a birthday gift for meh.
@SomeOmega
No.
@JonT sad face :(
Bright idea
@AttyVette Watt were you thinking?
@AttyVette @cengland0 Let's lighten up on the puns, folks.
@cengland0 I dunno, though I'm LED to believe that this is meh. I mean, whose dim idea was it to offer two items on a site that purports to sell one item a day anyways?!
@AttyVette You always Lampoon the deals.
@narfcake I can SEE what you did there...
@TehMaliron ... and these stupid puns will continue until all lighting terms argon!
@AttyVette what a bunch of dim bulbs...
@narfcake brilliant!
@AttyVette I'm eveready for puns!
@AttyVette The future is looking bright... I need some lamp shades.
@cengland0 "Watt" me worry? (said in my best Alfred E. Neuman impersonation) no, I'm just trying to shine a little light on this subject...
@AttyVette Ohm igod I can't resist. Nothing impedes me now.
Is this another one of those bait and switch scams?
I have these, the lumen levels are in the title of the website,
MEH!
@rileyper Agreed.
Pizza hut eyebrows
I would like to report that these lights are pretty OK. Not the brightest but they work. I would say these lights are the definition of "meh."
@elpepe I love using the lights with my son when he's sleeping. The hall light wakes him up. The iPhone screen light is too bright. This light doesn't seem to bother him when he is sleeping.
@elpepe I have these strewn around my server room at the office. For power outages the computers stay on and now I have some light.
It was $4 when it was sold as a single pack. Meh!
@Daven7 but in a single pack we didn't get up cameras... ;)
@Daven7 I thought I remembered either $4 or two for $8.. sneaky.. didn't someone already say they were the same price at target the last time? now that'd mean they're cheaper at target...
Batteries not included, correct? I found the picture label "Batteries" misleading...
@sohmageek for some reason I am deeply disturbed by your admission.
@sohmageek Are you sure you're married?
@sohmageek do you mean something has been on its way to your house continuosly this year, or that you bought everything Meh has sold this year? Either way, I think your order number should be tolerant-codependent-spouse
@studerc Don't worry Twofer, you'll catch plenty of guys that had too much to drink and get nasty in the alley with you, I promise.
@mehdaf something has continually been in shipment or waiting to be shipped. I have NOT purchased everything they sold. Some of it is just plain old crap. Others I have no use for ever. Like the camera yesterday. I have a nice phone that takes good enough pics :)
In just to see what crap you send me this time around
And I have hundreds of aa batteries that need a home
I'm a loathsome-zealous-tiger who loves to light up the night! Actually, I bought these last time, (returned the cameras) and now I've bought more because I think they're pretty decent for when the power goes out and stuff. Let's skip the cameras this time, though, Mkay?
@Pony if you get an ip cam you could send it this way ;) you already have the address!
I will buy these, because the night is dark and full of terrors.
@deltahaze
@alexpope I totally agree.....about like a night light. No functional use besides dimly nudging at the night.
Before you buy: 21 lumens. That's all you need to know.
@Portlis Yah but fifty-three hours! Of run time. Who cares if you can get a suntan from it? Or see anything.
@Portlis Have no idea, is that GREAT?
@Portlis Can someone translate that into incandescent bulb wattage?
@mmh6 Assuming a luminous efficacy of 14-15 lm/W for this hypothetical incandescent bulb, 1.5-1.4ish.
I have two!
It's... all right.
And it floats!
Not very strong in terms of lighting, but it lasts a long time and is sturdy enough.
@heartbleed
@Thumperchick Damn, that's a righteously scary gif!
Took this on a night hike on the 4th of july and worked just fine. very nice for camping too!
I am afraid I will get cameras again as well JK. Have enough already. Couldn't read with one but good for power outages. Kindle fire lights up my books. So, Meh
These are good for power outages. Had an outage yesterday and used one. Also gave one to my neighbor who had no flashlights or lanterns.
@AnnaB Exactly. That's the reason I bought the last time. I don't need to be able to read the NYTimes by it, just not to fall over the ottoman or the dog on the way to the bathroom if the power goes out. Much safer than candles and better light as well.
Camping Use Case: (for less than super bright lights) Taking a leak in the woods. To be more sure you aren't giving a 'coon or a skunk a shower.
@RedOak Caution, do not try this in my neighborhood. One of our local skunks has an unusual fur pattern. The front paws are bright white, and the underside of the tail is bright white. @grazapin This says much better what I came to say. My second-most regrettable Meh purchase. (The dinky little "large" smartphone gloves were worse.)
@editorkid those gloves were the worst quality thing I have purchased here. Aside from not even being close to the right size, one of the pairs had a flaw (hole) in the thumb web. Meh suggested that I contact the glove company and I did. They sent a new one which was marginally better quality but still far too small. How many lumens? That is basically the only important fact/spec necessary for LED lights.
@kbaum17 Output: 21 lumens
I got these last time. Only one worked. Meh.
@Cirrius I got one that didn't work the first time, Meh made it right. Hope you contacted them when you received a dud.
These were fine. Hung one from a tree while camping and it lit the site will enough to see. Inside the tent or was good, not too bright.
Can a Mediocreian shed any light on why they're $2 more? Cost of holding them in the warehouse? Punishment for not buying sooner?
@mcanavino They experiment with pricing to see what works. For example: Speaker Dock Fridays.
@mcanavino They were the same price the last time they were 2 for Tuesday. Then here: https://meh.com/deals/insteon-camera-or-eveready-compact-led-area-light they were $4 each. Now they are $5 each. That's only $1 more.
Suppose you could make it sound worse by asking why is it $100 more (if you bought 100 units)?
@cengland0 I'm not saying it's some terrible insult or something.
Just curious if anyone could share the reasoning behind the change. If it's just "for the luls", that's cool; it's their site.
Bought these last time on the sole purpose of letting my kids play with them. Still running strong. They've been used as seats, rockets and hammers in hammer throwing contests. Still burning brightly. No idea if they're good for camping.
Getting led down a dark path, you need this to lumen your way.
@adougster
@cengland0 wow you are bright:)
Ordered these at the time of the IP Cam mixup. Finally took them camping with me a month ago. Oddly enough, they illuminate the area better when they are upside down.

These.........meh.
@Teripie Exactly what I was going to say- they're not good or bad, they're just MEH.
@PhysAssist Duh
@cranky1950 Huh? Don't you got something useful to say?
One of my first Woots ever. Used one camping last weekend....batteries had been in there for 2 years and it was still bright! Also, I still have an entire box of these unopened.
Weren't these things the ones we were supposed to get, but we got Internet cameras?
I bought these the last time.
took them camping with me this summer.
did not regret my purchase.
are they "the best lights ever" ?
certainly not.
are they a decent camping lamp or a nice back-up when power goes out?
heck yeah!
They look like the ones that Culver's gives out for 10 coupons
I apparently got six. Brighter than I expected, and a much cleaner light distribution than my older ones with those old incandescent flashlight bulbs.
I ordered 4 (2 sets) and wound up with 6. Maybe that's why they're a dollar more, so that some of us can get freebies. :)
I have to say... I was hoping this came in yesterday Wednesdays are better to complain... but it came in today, and it was LED area lights... Not this, not that Not something that sucks... But I got what I actually what I ordered! Thanks!
These make pretty good lights for fake jack-o-lanterns.
