@mediocrebot must be the issue with mine. Keeps locking up, dropping the feed or resetting. Didn't have this problem initially. I have a 2nd one (white) with no issues.
@medz I don't think it's just you. I have reliability issues with my Foscam camera. It frequently drops the wifi connnection and must be reset. Sometimes a simple power cycle is sufficient, but about 1 in 4 I have to completely reconfigure the camera. A pain in the ass for the $100 I spent on my 8906, but for $33 prolly a tolerable situation. You be the judge.

I bought this for $50 from another website (that rhymes with Poupon). Setup is a bit of a pain, but the camera itself is great! I use it as a puppy-cam to make sure he doesn't invite all the neighborhood bitches over for dog parties when I'm gone.
@grobbins i got the one from groupon and my wireless connection just stopped working. i have updated and everything, now it just sits and collects dust and the kids think it still works...
I have one of these (I think I bought it from that other site a couple years ago) - if not this exact model then a very similar one. A good buy for $33 - tempted to get another - I use is to remotely check on the house when away. Just remember to CHANGE the default password as there are sites that look for IP camera's.
@ilovereality I looked it up - 8/2013 I paid $70 - same model - wasn't a refurb but I have no problems with refurb. If they aren't gone in the morning I'll probably pick one up.

Hmm... Got a 720p Swanncloud one as a puppy-can a couple months back, no speaker so no 2 way communication. But my lady is more than a little creeped out by the presence of an Internet connected camera in the house.
Does this communicate directly with client devices (i.e. require port forwarding to access from the Internet) or does it connect to the vendor's server like the Swanncloud unit?
@djslack Inside your local net the cam can communicate directly with your phone/tablet/computer. For outside your local net, Foscam provides a poorly run, unrelaible IP forwarding service. I use NoIP Free as an alternative..

Resolution is pretty low, but suitable, I suppose, for logging in from work and seeing the damn dog sleeping on the damn couch again... This image was taken from my Foscam 8906W (same resolution but much, much brighter IR LED array).

got a similar Foscam model (FI8918W) off amazon maybe 6 months ago for $60. I used their easy to follow instructions and i was up and running quickly. I then mounted it in under the house in my crawl space so that i could check on the dehumidifier remotely. (i hate crawl spaces)
being able to pan around and see a lot of your crawl space is kinda neat until you see a large spider.
I cant speak for the model meh is selling, but the one i purchased has been going strong stuck understand house for half a year now. it's very helpful and very well priced.

@wilstev mine is currently pointing at my side door to catch something similar - the only thing is you will need to get a 3rd party program to detect and record motion (and you would be advised to have a dedicated computer - I have an old laptop running a program that records based on pixel changes - works for my needs).

So when you want to access the feed, does it rely on Flash or some other crappy browser plug-in? Can you access it directly on the LAN, or do you need some gawdawful cloud-based redirector or something equally craptacular?

Awesome camera! I tie one like this to my dog when she goes outside. You never know what she'll get into or discover. Hell, the other night she was out peeing in the fresh snow, and I saw that some idiot left his bitchin' new shovel outside, just waiting for me. SCORE!
Already had a few Foscam HD cams. Was thinking of getting a cheaper model as a roaming cam I could setup wherever the puppies are at to keep an eye on them but they are not exactly at 'impulse buy' prices. Meh sure solved that problem.
I bought this way back for around $55 one BF. It works great for a baby monitor with a $2 app. Quality is not great, but for $33 it is a great price considering.
I already have 2 of these and they work great for what I need them for. I'm in for 2 more at this price (might as well since I have free shipping). I agree that setting up port forwarding was initially a pain, but there are some very good tutorials on YouTube, especially this one...
Can you control the IR lights manually (turn them off)? I'd like to use it on an inside window sill to monitor outside where motion sensor lights activate when the local fauna wander close enough to the house. Most of the time I don't notice the lights are on until just before they go off and by then the critter is usually (but not always) gone. In this scenario I don't need the IR lights and I don't want them bouncing off the glass and blinding the camera.
@gio There are some settings but the lights I was able to turn off were the blinking Ethernet lights in the back, not the Red IR light. Anyone know for sure if the IR red light can be disabled?
@Stallion Maybe I was skimming the manual too quickly... On page 22 it says, "The second button turns off the IR LEDs, turning off all night vision completely." However, looking at it again, I see that refers to the IE control panel, and that some of the options aren't available for other browsers. I'm on Linux so will either have to find a decent app or run it through a Windows VM.
@gio Actually you are right, I now remember that you can in fact turn the IR off completely and the Red rights go off, but unfortunately the night vision is lost in the process. I wonder why they used red IR led's? My other baby monitor uses clear ones and they do not show any light at all which is nice so you can't tell a camera is staring you in the face.
Meh. It's too big to use as a hidden toilet-cam and won't work as a feasible dash-cam. Maybe it would make a good nanny-cam, but would need a nanny for that...and maybe some kids. Did I miss another way to invade people's privacy? Anyone here from the NSA that can help?

@shaine228 I got a Belkin Netcam from a BoC from woot. I was super excited until I read reviews where people said it was complicated to setup and use. This was mostly due to instructions not explaining in detail when and where and what to use when signing up, connecting, and the process to it. Once I did spend several hours figuring it out I haven'd had a lick of trouble. I'm wondering how many of these cams are like that. It took some guessing on my part which shouldn't have been the case.

I already own a couple of the SD Foscams. I'd have upgraded if the HD model was offered. FWIW, they're pretty good cameras, even at SD. I highly recommend FoscamPro for iOS to monitor your cameras on the go. Well worth the couple of bucks to have full control and the ability to record the video to your phone.
It took me about two evenings to figure out how to set my router up to handle these things (granted, it was my first time trying this kind of stuff) but they are otherwise pretty sweet. And I would have bought one if they weren't already gone!
If you bought this camera, this is the most important thing you NEED to do. Update the firmware. I have two of this particular model camera. They were in the news about a year ago because some dude "hacked" into one of them and was shouting obscenities at a (luckily) deaf toddler. The parents heard the noise, unplugged the camera, and notified police.
The user accounts on the camera are set with regular form fields. Under a previous firmware, if you left ANY of the boxes blank it would create a user with no username and password... which means that anyone could have admin access to your camera. I confirmed this myself on my own two cameras before updating the firmware.
That said, I would have likely bought a couple more at that price had they not sold out before I woke up.

I got mine Thursday and had a chance to play with it yesterday. I'm very happy with the purchase. I have one setup and the other one waiting for me to figure where to put it. The night vision is much better than I expected for this price! I have a wired Z midi 8 camera setup and this foscam is much better! It even has a built in mic and you don't need to plug one in! I can hear conversations 30 feet away with it.
I did notice video lag when first went over to wireless from the wired connection. It was about a 10 second lag. Once I moved the camera about 10 feet away from router it went back to normal. I'm really happy with this purchase and wish I would have gotten 3 for this price!!
Got mine today. Quite impressed with the quality for the price. The only problem (if you can call it that) is one of my three black cameras came with a white antenna. So if any of you get a white camera with a black antenna, hit me up for an exchange. Or maybe I can get one of those fancy black Sharpies sent to me and I can fix it myself ;-) .

It's come to our attention that some folks that ordered two or more of these may have actually been sent the TOCCS bluetooth headphones we sold the day after we sold these cameras instead.
I'll be honest, we don't know exactly how many people this could have affected yet. Typically, when something like this happens we reach out directly to the customers. In this case we aren't sure who those people are at this time.
So what does this mean for you? Well if you open up your Foscam box and it looks a lot more like a set of headphones than a camera, shoot us a message at meh.com/support with a photo of what you received and we'll get the correct items sent your way via ground to expedite the process as much as possible. @MEHcus I noticed that the tracking information for my package says that the dimensions are 9x8x7. Doesn't seem like two cameras would fit in a box that size. Any chance that might be an indicator of good vs. bad shipments? I guess I'll find out myself when it gets delivered tomorrow.

Received my cam today. Though I haven't fired it up yet, it came in a retail box and looks unmolested except it's missing all paperwork, the CD with drivers (not mentioned by meh so ok and it's prolly outdated anyway) and more importantly the network cable which the box said should be included. Thanks for short changing me meh...I'm almost afraid to see if it actually works.
@iggy71 The provided netowrk cables are flat. Supposedly that means that they are more prone to whatever poor network cables are prone to (something bad.) I have a few laying around if you want them!
I received my camera today, and I regret to report I received exactly what I ordered. What kind of scam is this? I haven't plugged it in yet, so I don't know if it works. I get the sneaking suspicion it will, though. I'm so disappointed.
@seanrolsen You understand correctly. The build quality is poor. The sound quality is, dare I say, mediocre. Basically, I got what I paid for... or I will get what I paid for once the replacement cameras arrive.
Just got my cam, and it looks like I might have gotten a DOA unfortunately. Plugged it in and it just sits still and clicks. I have another identical cam (same model), and it's supposed to do a power-on self-test where it sweeps around its axis.
I reset it with a paper clip (reset button in recessed area on underside), swapped the power supply with the known-good cam, and no dice. Setup app can't see it, router I plugged it into can't see it, other router I plugged it into can't see it. I'm going to try some more troubleshooting and then hit up meh support. D'oh.
@jawe Same here. Post if you figured out a fix. Appears that I may have to contact meh to resolve as well. My round green led light above the red one doesn't light at all when powered and connected to router. The two square led on either side of the network port do light though. All my other issues are the same as yours. Also the power connector seem a little wobbly and touchy.
@jawe I called Foscam tech support at 1-800-930-0949 and after two 40 minute hold times (I was disconnected on the 1st attempt) explained the situation and they said it was a hardware problem. They said it would need to be replaced and asked where I purchased it. They then told me that meh.com is not an authorized reseller and that the camera is not covered under warranty and that I would need to return it to where I purchased it, meh dot com. So I just contacted meh through the "I need help with this" link on my order and asked to please issue me a prepaid shipping label to return the defective camera for replacement of a tested/ working one or a FULL refund of what I paid.
@iggy71 Yeah I heard horror stories about their support and didn't want to risk dicking around with their phone support. Sounds like that was a good choice. Thus far via email the guy hasn't turned me down just because it's Meh, but we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't understand what "Meh" was when you mentioned it because they might have it in their books as "A Mediocre Corporation". Holly in support noted that I should mention "A Mediocre Corporation", not "Meh".

I saw some posts about returns. One of the two that I purchased was DOE over cable and wifi. Has anybody had any success with replacements/returns through Foscam or meh?
@bcizle There are some discussions earlier in this thread about it. It sounds like your best option is to contact Foscam by email and say that you purchased the camera from "A Mediocre Corporation". If you say that you bought it from "Meh" they will say that isn't an authorized reseller and they won't help you.

I bought this for $50 from another website (that rhymes with Poupon). Setup is a bit of a pain, but the camera itself is great! I use it as a puppy-cam to make sure he doesn't invite all the neighborhood bitches over for dog parties when I'm gone.

I have one of these (I think I bought it from that other site a couple years ago) - if not this exact model then a very similar one. A good buy for $33 - tempted to get another - I use is to remotely check on the house when away. Just remember to CHANGE the default password as there are sites that look for IP camera's.

Hmm... Got a 720p Swanncloud one as a puppy-can a couple months back, no speaker so no 2 way communication. But my lady is more than a little creeped out by the presence of an Internet connected camera in the house.
Does this communicate directly with client devices (i.e. require port forwarding to access from the Internet) or does it connect to the vendor's server like the Swanncloud unit?
@djslack I see from comments as I was typing that port forwarding is required. May get one and get rid of the one I have now. Hmm.

@djslack there's no central server, you're the one that would need to setup recordings.
@djslack Inside your local net the cam can communicate directly with your phone/tablet/computer. For outside your local net, Foscam provides a poorly run, unrelaible IP forwarding service. I use NoIP Free as an alternative..

Good camera for the money. I have one, nice wide angle, decent color. Using iSpy for recording capability.

Resolution is pretty low, but suitable, I suppose, for logging in from work and seeing the damn dog sleeping on the damn couch again...

got a similar Foscam model (FI8918W) off amazon maybe 6 months ago for $60. I used their easy to follow instructions and i was up and running quickly. I then mounted it in under the house in my crawl space so that i could check on the dehumidifier remotely. (i hate crawl spaces)
being able to pan around and see a lot of your crawl space is kinda neat until you see a large spider.
I cant speak for the model meh is selling, but the one i purchased has been going strong stuck understand house for half a year now. it's very helpful and very well priced.
Pretty sure i'm going to pick up one of these as well.

@wilstev mine is currently pointing at my side door to catch something similar - the only thing is you will need to get a 3rd party program to detect and record motion (and you would be advised to have a dedicated computer - I have an old laptop running a program that records based on pixel changes - works for my needs).
@ilovereality What's the third party program? I think it'd like to do something similar to catch a raccoon who likes to eat out of my compost pile.

So when you want to access the feed, does it rely on Flash or some other crappy browser plug-in? Can you access it directly on the LAN, or do you need some gawdawful cloud-based redirector or something equally craptacular?
@gglockner Foscam has their own proprietary plug-in.
@gglockner Not Flash but some other crappy browser plugin. LAN accessible. Highly configurable but you have to read tea leaves or some shit to figure most of it out.
@gglockner You don't have to use the plug-in, there is a server push option on the logon page.
Awesome camera! I tie one like this to my dog when she goes outside. You never know what she'll get into or discover. Hell, the other night she was out peeing in the fresh snow, and I saw that some idiot left his bitchin' new shovel outside, just waiting for me. SCORE!

Already had a few Foscam HD cams. Was thinking of getting a cheaper model as a roaming cam I could setup wherever the puppies are at to keep an eye on them but they are not exactly at 'impulse buy' prices. Meh sure solved that problem.
I bought this way back for around $55 one BF. It works great for a baby monitor with a $2 app. Quality is not great, but for $33 it is a great price considering.
I may grab another at this price.
I already have 2 of these and they work great for what I need them for. I'm in for 2 more at this price (might as well since I have free shipping). I agree that setting up port forwarding was initially a pain, but there are some very good tutorials on YouTube, especially this one...

Can you control the IR lights manually (turn them off)? I'd like to use it on an inside window sill to monitor outside where motion sensor lights activate when the local fauna wander close enough to the house. Most of the time I don't notice the lights are on until just before they go off and by then the critter is usually (but not always) gone. In this scenario I don't need the IR lights and I don't want them bouncing off the glass and blinding the camera.
@gio Found the manual http://foscam.us/downloads/FI8910W%20User%20Manual%20Final.pdf and it appears they can be turned off.
@gio There are some settings but the lights I was able to turn off were the blinking Ethernet lights in the back, not the Red IR light. Anyone know for sure if the IR red light can be disabled?
@Stallion Maybe I was skimming the manual too quickly... On page 22 it says, "The second button turns off the IR LEDs, turning off all night vision completely." However, looking at it again, I see that refers to the IE control panel, and that some of the options aren't available for other browsers. I'm on Linux so will either have to find a decent app or run it through a Windows VM.
@gio Actually you are right, I now remember that you can in fact turn the IR off completely and the Red rights go off, but unfortunately the night vision is lost in the process. I wonder why they used red IR led's? My other baby monitor uses clear ones and they do not show any light at all which is nice so you can't tell a camera is staring you in the face.

@Stallion The IR bulbs that cast light beyond the visible spectrum cost more to purchase than the ones you can see a red glow.

FWIW The "ip cam viewer" app works great with foscam cameras. Especially when you set them up to view externally from your home network.

@elangomatt don't fret. I got one before and setting it up is super complicated I ended up returning it and bought a dlink cam which Is way easier to set up.
@shaine228 I got a Belkin Netcam from a BoC from woot. I was super excited until I read reviews where people said it was complicated to setup and use. This was mostly due to instructions not explaining in detail when and where and what to use when signing up, connecting, and the process to it. Once I did spend several hours figuring it out I haven'd had a lick of trouble. I'm wondering how many of these cams are like that. It took some guessing on my part which shouldn't have been the case.

Once again I'm irked, but i feel really gr8 from a good night's sleep! Guess i have to live w/o a nifty, meh webcam.
I already own a couple of the SD Foscams. I'd have upgraded if the HD model was offered. FWIW, they're pretty good cameras, even at SD. I highly recommend FoscamPro for iOS to monitor your cameras on the go. Well worth the couple of bucks to have full control and the ability to record the video to your phone.
Now we're talking Meh! Good stuff today...wish you'da had a few more of these! Maybe next time.
It took me about two evenings to figure out how to set my router up to handle these things (granted, it was my first time trying this kind of stuff) but they are otherwise pretty sweet. And I would have bought one if they weren't already gone!
If you bought this camera, this is the most important thing you NEED to do. Update the firmware. I have two of this particular model camera. They were in the news about a year ago because some dude "hacked" into one of them and was shouting obscenities at a (luckily) deaf toddler. The parents heard the noise, unplugged the camera, and notified police.
The user accounts on the camera are set with regular form fields. Under a previous firmware, if you left ANY of the boxes blank it would create a user with no username and password... which means that anyone could have admin access to your camera. I confirmed this myself on my own two cameras before updating the firmware.
That said, I would have likely bought a couple more at that price had they not sold out before I woke up.

I hope this is an isolated case and not the way meh works (Kind of looks like you sell them and then have to go out and buy them from somewhere else to sell to us). I got burned before by a daily deal site called Deadly Deals and am extra cautious now. But I'll continue to wait and hope my first order eventually does ship.

I got mine Thursday and had a chance to play with it yesterday. I'm very happy with the purchase. I have one setup and the other one waiting for me to figure where to put it. The night vision is much better than I expected for this price! I have a wired Z midi 8 camera setup and this foscam is much better! It even has a built in mic and you don't need to plug one in! I can hear conversations 30 feet away with it.
I did notice video lag when first went over to wireless from the wired connection. It was about a 10 second lag. Once I moved the camera about 10 feet away from router it went back to normal. I'm really happy with this purchase and wish I would have gotten 3 for this price!!
@lcastil1 Make sure yo update the firmware. I had issues too, then I updated the firmware and it got better.
Got mine today. Quite impressed with the quality for the price. The only problem (if you can call it that) is one of my three black cameras came with a white antenna. So if any of you get a white camera with a black antenna, hit me up for an exchange. Or maybe I can get one of those fancy black Sharpies sent to me and I can fix it myself ;-) .

It's come to our attention that some folks that ordered two or more of these may have actually been sent the TOCCS bluetooth headphones we sold the day after we sold these cameras instead.
I'll be honest, we don't know exactly how many people this could have affected yet. Typically, when something like this happens we reach out directly to the customers. In this case we aren't sure who those people are at this time.
So what does this mean for you? Well if you open up your Foscam box and it looks a lot more like a set of headphones than a camera, shoot us a message at meh.com/support with a photo of what you received and we'll get the correct items sent your way via ground to expedite the process as much as possible. As for the headphones, they are all yours, Merry Very Very Early Christmas!
We are working on diagnosing how this came about and putting the appropriate checks in place to ensure we catch these kinds of things before they make it out the door. As you all know we are still a pretty small operation and are going through some growing pains as we work out the kinks in our systems. We really appreciate your patients!

@MEHcus I noticed that the tracking information for my package says that the dimensions are 9x8x7. Doesn't seem like two cameras would fit in a box that size. Any chance that might be an indicator of good vs. bad shipments? I guess I'll find out myself when it gets delivered tomorrow.
@MEHcus I only ordered one, so I'm not getting the headphones. Which is fine with me, because I didn't buy them. Still, it's cool you aren't making people return them. Good on ya, Meh.

@dviperbigt I love how I complain that they dont update us but when they ship they send me two emails. but its the wrong item.I got the manhattan headphones all black. do you need a pic bc I can not attache it where you wanted me to send a message.
@MEHcus Looks like I was one of the ones affected. Hope the cameras can ship quickly, we're planning on using them for baby monitors and the baby is due any day now!

I did send in a new email to support. I also replied to the email that I received about the late delivery time. In that email I forwarded the pics.

@nptacek Congrats! Similar situation. Ordered a while cam and a black cam. Got a white headphone and a black headphone. :) Ours is due in a few weeks!
@MEHcus Three orders. Two have been messed up. Both mess-ups were in my favor. Great for me, but you're making me feel bad! Then I think about how I have been unsuccessful in aquiring a bandolier of carrots and the feeling goes away a little bit. :-)

Received my cam today. Though I haven't fired it up yet, it came in a retail box and looks unmolested except it's missing all paperwork, the CD with drivers (not mentioned by meh so ok and it's prolly outdated anyway) and more importantly the network cable which the box said should be included. Thanks for short changing me meh...I'm almost afraid to see if it actually works.
@iggy71 The provided netowrk cables are flat. Supposedly that means that they are more prone to whatever poor network cables are prone to (something bad.) I have a few laying around if you want them!
@seanrolsen Thanks for your kind offer but it seems I received a defective unit like jawe did (see my post further down).
I received my camera today, and I regret to report I received exactly what I ordered. What kind of scam is this? I haven't plugged it in yet, so I don't know if it works. I get the sneaking suspicion it will, though. I'm so disappointed.
Sure enough, I received two sets of TOCCs headphones instead of the two IP cameras I ordered.

@seanrolsen You understand correctly. The build quality is poor. The sound quality is, dare I say, mediocre. Basically, I got what I paid for... or I will get what I paid for once the replacement cameras arrive.

Just got my cam, and it looks like I might have gotten a DOA unfortunately. Plugged it in and it just sits still and clicks. I have another identical cam (same model), and it's supposed to do a power-on self-test where it sweeps around its axis.
I reset it with a paper clip (reset button in recessed area on underside), swapped the power supply with the known-good cam, and no dice. Setup app can't see it, router I plugged it into can't see it, other router I plugged it into can't see it. I'm going to try some more troubleshooting and then hit up meh support. D'oh.
@jawe Same here. Post if you figured out a fix. Appears that I may have to contact meh to resolve as well. My round green led light above the red one doesn't light at all when powered and connected to router. The two square led on either side of the network port do light though. All my other issues are the same as yours. Also the power connector seem a little wobbly and touchy.
@iggy71 Holly in Meh Support got back to me and gave me the support info for Foscam. Shot them an email - Going to see how it goes.
@jawe I called Foscam tech support at 1-800-930-0949 and after two 40 minute hold times (I was disconnected on the 1st attempt) explained the situation and they said it was a hardware problem. They said it would need to be replaced and asked where I purchased it. They then told me that meh.com is not an authorized reseller and that the camera is not covered under warranty and that I would need to return it to where I purchased it, meh dot com. So I just contacted meh through the "I need help with this" link on my order and asked to please issue me a prepaid shipping label to return the defective camera for replacement of a tested/ working one or a FULL refund of what I paid.
@iggy71 Yeah I heard horror stories about their support and didn't want to risk dicking around with their phone support. Sounds like that was a good choice. Thus far via email the guy hasn't turned me down just because it's Meh, but we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't understand what "Meh" was when you mentioned it because they might have it in their books as "A Mediocre Corporation". Holly in support noted that I should mention "A Mediocre Corporation", not "Meh".
@jawe Foscam support just emailed me a pre-paid shipping label and instructions. I'd say email them after putting a Meh support email in.

Out of curiosity, have any of you who received headphones instead of cameras started seeing tracking numbers show up for your replacement cameras yet?
I sent customer service a message on the 21st and the "order" for the replacements appeared on my order page on the 22nd but no tracking number yet.

I saw some posts about returns. One of the two that I purchased was DOE over cable and wifi. Has anybody had any success with replacements/returns through Foscam or meh?
@bcizle There are some discussions earlier in this thread about it. It sounds like your best option is to contact Foscam by email and say that you purchased the camera from "A Mediocre Corporation". If you say that you bought it from "Meh" they will say that isn't an authorized reseller and they won't help you.

I got the headphones and had to send them a pic. now I have another order is placed on the 1-22-15 on my account. but still has not shipped. this really sucks. I will be irate if I get DOA!!! I hope this is worth all the wait! Oh and the headphones suck. cheap want to be beats.
