Swann Security Motion Sensing Driveway Alert
- A motion detector that detects motion, and an alert unit that alerts you with an alert noise when the motion detector detects motion
- Use it to detect activity at your front door, your gate, your bird feeder, your wasp farm, your corn maze, your moat, or - if you’re boring - your driveway
- Want one free? Post in the forum telling us what you’d do with a motion sensor alarm, and if we like your idea, we’ll send you one
- Model: SWHOM-DRIVEA-GL (twelve letters + two hyphens = one long sloppy model number)
Think Outside the Driveway
This Swann motion-sensing alert doohickey didn’t sell so hot. Because they were selling it as a “driveway alarm”. That’s a narrow niche to begin with. And it turns out that a sub-$50 freestanding unit is better suited to detecting your kids prying into the hidden Christmas presents than to providing Fort Knox-level perimeter security to your estate.
If you’re looking for something to protect your paramilitary compound, or your uranium mine, or your black-velvet pedestal with the priceless Van Richelieu Diamond mounted on it, you should look elsewhere.
But start thinking of this thing as a weatherproof motion sensor with remote alarm, and suddenly: possibilities.
What would you do with this? Post your suggestions in the forum. Our own @dave will be lurking at launch time. If he sees any ideas he likes, he’ll send you one of these monitors free. We’ll arouse your creative impulses with some ideas of our own:
Set it up on the front porch and you’ll know when a package has been dropped off by that UPS guy who never knocks.
Point it at your bird-feeder and you won’t have to watch all day to spot the elusive Northern Golden-Jowled Tithatch.
Mount it by the back door to catch your teenager sneaking out night and having more fun than you are.
You can even use it to let you know that someone’s coming down the office hallway, so you can minimize the very Meh window you’re looking at right now.
OK, you take it from there. We’re sure you can think of a dozen other situations that would be a lot more fun with a motion sensor and a wireless remote alert unit. Our favorite suggestions will each win a free one. Maybe you could use it to tell you when a car pulls into your drivew- oh, wait, right.
