It's not Sphero. It's us.

It seemed like a match made in heaven. Us: overgrown children, some of us with children of our own, always looking for cool, versatile, charismatic, techy toys to play with. Sphero: a little ball you steer around with your smartphone, complete with a nubby all-terrain cover.

And we played happily ever after, right? Well, only if by “ever after” you mean for maybe half an hour after we unboxed Sphero. Not that Sphero is the problem, exactly. It delivered everything it promised. We were able to drive it around in no time. We like it, we really do… but after a little while of playing with Sphero, even our notoriously juvenile CEO started mumbling about needing to get some work done. We started to get the creeping feeling that the Sphero people had just reinvented the Pet Rock.

So maybe the problem is us. Maybe there’s just some defect in us that makes us incapable of getting gaga over Sphero. Maybe we just can’t let ourselves be happy. We don’t want to walk away from this, only to realize after years of unsatisfactory playtimes that Sphero was the one all along, only we were just too blind to see it.

A lot of you guys, like, still do fun stuff with yours, right? You and your Sphero still have that spark. You enjoy spending time together. We hear some of you have even given yours names - what should we call ours? What about those augmented reality games? Anybody tried those? Do they work? What are we doing wrong, Sphero lovers? Show us in the forum. Tell us how you keep the honeymoon going. Teach us how to fall in love all over again.
