SOG Contractor IV Folding Knife
- A contractor-grade hawksbill knife, not that flimsy thing you get for free if you buy a roll of vinyl flooring
- 2.625" folding stainless steel blade sharp enough for stripping wire and other precise pursuits
- One-handed opening, grippy blade, all the stuff that drives the contractors wild
- Model: EL40-CP (is this the same EL40-CP who did a verse on that Lil Jon song?)
This is not a "carpet knife".
We don’t make grandiose claims for our products. And we don’t get defensive about their shortcomings. It is what it is, and that there’s what it is.
But we need to clear something up about this knife. Last time we sold it, its hooked hawksbill blade led many of you to believe that it was the kind of carpet knife, or linoleum knife, that you can get for a few bucks at Home Depot. Those borderline disposable hooked knives are a half-step above a paint scraper. That’s not what this is.
For one thing, this folds. For another, it’s got a much heavier stainless steel blade. For another another, it’s much sharper and more precise, suitable for stripping wire and other fine jobs. It’s a real knife, for real.
You know we’re not exactly egotistical about the quality of our knives. But we are egotistical about the honesty of our information. We can’t let misconceptions go unchallenged, especially if they might cost us money. There’s a big difference between a cheapo carpet knife and a sharp, sturdy, reasonably high-quality contractor knife that just happens to be available at a cheapo price.
If that’s what you need, that’s what this is. If all you need is a cheap metal hook to rip up some deep-pile, tote your pennies to Home Depot.
