SJ250 Coaxial Gyro-Stabilized 3.5CH Helicopter
- As stable and responsive as a non-quad helicopter toy can be (so it’ll still probably crash sometimes)
- Metal frame can take some damage
- 50-foot control range, 45 minutes of charging time, 7 minutes of flying time
- Best for flying around indoors, with the infrared control
- If you can make it through all 7 minutes without crashing, pin a medal on yourself
- If you really want to know more detail, check the review link above the buy button, where a dork on an RC forum gets waaaaay into this one
- Model: SJ250
Get to da choppa!
The most memorable car races are the ones with lots of crashes. The most memorable weddings are the ones where the bride and groom, on their first dance, knock over the cake. The most memorable local newscasts are the ones where somebody says a bad word on the air.
If you agree, we’ve got the copter for you. Everybody’s talking about quadcopters these days, and not just at Drone.Horse. Because quadcopters have cracked the stability code, because they make it so much easier to maintain a level, steady flight. Impressive, granted. But is it actually fun?
A certain brand of devil-may-care pilot says “No.” This thrillseeker doesn’t want to be sure that the copter will hum smoothly through the doorway into the next room. He or she wants a whiff of danger, of risk, of a toy-copter experience as thrilling as this:
That’s what this S-J Series Coaxial Helicopter offers. It’s as good as it gets when it comes to a “coax” (that’s “co-ax”, short for coaxial, not the word “coax”). Don’t take our word for it. Read the obsessively detailed review linked just above the buy button, to the upper left. “This heli for $22 shipped is hands down better than any other coax I’ve owned,” the reviewer says. (Imagine what he’d say about it at this price.) And that’s coming from a guy who shaves off the excess plastic from his copters to lighten their flying load. Suffice to say, you’ll be able to get it off the ground.
But it’s not so stable that you’ll fall asleep flying it. You’ll have to remain constantly vigilant, feeling out the stability of the controls, rolling with any sudden updrafts that could blow you off course. And even then, a spectacular crash could only be seconds away. (That’s why they’re so cheap. And why you should buy three.)
Quadcopters have their discontents. The S-J Series Gyro Helicopter is for all those mavericks whose 'copter dreams are more about unpredictable action and dizzying spirals than steady flight and smooth maneuvers. It’s for everyone who’s ever wanted to get to da choppa.
Not us, of course. We’ll take quadcopters any day. But we figure there have to be some of you crash freaks out there.
