The Bright Stuff

Okay, so, this is a hat with a light on it. That’s why it’s rechargeable. We just wanted to get that out of the way early in case you thought the rechargeable thing was some sort of internal heating element. But this doesn’t have that.

Or, in some ways, it does… as long as you put it on your head. (Get it? You’re the internal heating element!)

It’s a little silly, okay? We can admit that. But it’s also only 12 bucks. And for that much, you can buy it without knowing how often you’ll actually use it. That said, we can think of a few scenarios in which it would make sense.

For example:

Walks/jogs at dawn or dusk - Sometimes, you just need to get outside and move. And sometimes, especially in the late fall/winter/early spring, the hours you can actually do that coincide with the sun rising or setting. You know what we’re talking about: the light is low but you can mostly see where you’re stepping; you just need a bit of extra illumination to feel safe, just like this hat will provide. Added bonus, it’s easy for cars and other pedestrians to see you, too.

Reading on the deck at night in the fall - Reading outside feels like a summer thing, but when it’s 55 degrees out, you’d be fine in a sweater, a pair of jeans, and a beanie. The only problem? Same as in the previous scenario: the light fades quickly in the fall. So why not sub this beanie in for your usual beanie and make use of its built-in reading light on mild fall nights?

Dealing with something outside - Okay, here’s an example from my own life. Recently, before a trip, I bought replacement wiper blades because my old ones were totally shredded. I had every opportunity to put them on in the daylight between the time of purchase and departure, but what did I do? I waited until the night before and did it in the dark. This hat, though a bit warm for this time of year, might’ve been helpful. Is this a bit specific? Sure. But you know you have a story like this. The “Oh crap, I forgot to do X” routine that lands you outside in the dark, trying to hold a flashlight and do a two-handed job one-handed.

Those are a few we came up with. If you’ve got ideas for what you could do with this hat, post them in the comments.

Otherwise, buy a hat. It’s got a light on it!
