Dollar Tree Halloween 2024
11Its not a full selection yet but both of my nearby Dollar Tree stores have Halloween decor coming out, along with Autumn. Seeing a few new things this year including ceramic trees with LED lights. No cackling witches so far, but skull and pumpkin stack motion detects are out.

The spice season approaches quickly. Though, we’re a family that doesn’t take down Halloween decorations all year (inside the house at least) so I’m all for cheap creepy fun being back on the shelves.

Costco has a new giant skeleton, but it’s apparently out of stck already
@Kyeh Tractor supply has them.

Although I saw a giant chicken in store and would buy that instead.

@sammydog01 The Costco one is bigger and has red light-up eyes, though. Also, does Tractor Supply really have them? I had a devil of a time trying to buy the large flower pots this spring - driving miles to the store to find that they DON’T have what I already bought and paid for! The rooster is funny though!
@Kyeh oops I didn’t check the size. They had one on display when I was there last week but who knows if they still do. No chicks though, I guess those are there in the spring.
The Costco werewolf is pretty cool and in stock for shipping.
@sammydog01 He’s quite terrifying!
@Kyeh @sammydog01 What do I gotta do to find a werewolf that isn’t scary? Like, a werewolf who would be fun to hang out with.
@PooltoyWolf @sammydog01 Create your own, I guess?
@Kyeh @sammydog01 I guess I did!
@PooltoyWolf @sammydog01 MUCH cuter and not scary at all.
@Kyeh @sammydog01 High praise UwU
@Kyeh @sammydog01
$330 at Costco and $250 at for 1/3 of a skeleton? That’s a rip off big time. I don’t care if smoke comes out of his eyes and he eats little kids as they walk by (thought that would pretty cool).
@sammydog01 @Star2236
@Kyeh Oh, is this why my local grocery store is trying to sell me a 4-foot ground-breaking skeleton in the app?
@mossygreen Everyone’s trying to get into the giant skeleton game, I guess!
@mossygreen Did you see this?
https://www.loudersound.com/news/earliest-known-syd-barrett-painting-to-be-auctioned
@Kyeh Wow. It’s the Summer of Syd.
https://bid.omegaauctions.co.uk/auction/lot/293-pink-floydsyd-barrett-interest---the-original-painted-wooden-floorboards-from-madcap-laughs-album-cover/?lot=55480&sd=1
@mossygreen Sold for £28,500!
@Kyeh It’s an amazing story. He shared the flat with painter Duggie Fields, who lived there until his death in 2021. After he moved out, Fields covered the floor with linoleum to use the room as his painting studio. And it stayed that way, the original painted floorboards intact and untouched for decades, until the flat was sold after Fields’ death. You look at the pictures and think that’s Syd’s hair!
@mossygreen I bet you’d love to have a single board … what a creative guy he was!
@Kyeh Honestly, just knowing they exist in the world is a gift. It’s like a fairy tale.
@Kyeh @sammydog01 Love the concept of a chicken skeleton… but like so many other “skeletonized creature” decorations, the people making them have no idea what a skeleton actually is and does biologically. there are no bones in the tailfeathers and soft tissues!
still not as bad as the “skeleton spiders” though. did any of the designers there ever stop and realize that when we look at the outside of a spider, we’re already seeing it’s entire skeleton?
@Kyeh @Turken I watch a lot of horror movies and try to let things like reality slide. There’s a cow that’s more accurate if you pull off the ears and tail.
@Kyeh They were still in stock when i saw them at Costco, but it looked too friendly for my taste. Also the skull was noticeably flat/shallow, presumably to fit in the box. I’d rather have another HD skeleton.
@Kyeh @sammydog01 @Turken I had a friend who was really offended by the Monster High doll Skelita Calaveras’ skeletal breasts. She was like, that’s not how that works, and I was like, they have to be able to wear each other’s clothes.
/image skelita calaveras doll
@mossygreen @sammydog01 @Turken
Oh, geez - that’s so dumb! Not to mention a fully fleshed-out face! She IS pretty, though.
@Kyeh @sammydog01 @Turken They have to be able to wear each other’s clothes.
Yeah, though, absolutely gorgeous doll. I have, I think, three of her? None are complete, of course, but they all have their hands.
@mossygreen @sammydog01 @Turken I think she should just wear the clothes baggy on top. Of course it’s not like the non-skeletal dolls have realistic bodies either.
First purchase of the season, not much was out yet but the kits look fun.
@sammydog01 I picked up one of the kits too, but have not had time to play with it yet.
@sammydog01 Started playing with the crow set tonight. This kit is a lot like the book nook sets on Amazon. The cranks and rods that operate the wings are not spaced far enough back from the inside wheels; I need to get some washers to space them back further, then probably glue them to the hubs. But otherwise everything has fit.
Its crying for paint and detailing, just like those book nooks.
@sammydog01 Completed the Crow, sans paint and decoration. I went to Menards for some 1/2" nylon washers to space the vertical risers out a little further, that made it necessary to glue them onto the axles that connect to the gears because they’d fall off otherwise.
The mechanism works. I’m looking forward to painting and detailing it, nd wondering if I can set up a battery box and tiny red LED in the center head eye-hole (or one in each of the side head eye holes).
I wish they’d made the bat with a less comical face. I don’t think I’m going to get one of those, but will get another crow.
Lowes:
They have buttons to test them out. The big ones are terrifying but my favorite is the diver.
@sammydog01 Geez - they’re impressive but I want to know where people store these things the rest of the year!
@Kyeh I figure why buy one when I can drop by Lowe’s and push the button. I visit Spirit Halloween every year to push buttons.
@sammydog01 I like seeing this stuff in other peoples’ yards!
@sammydog01 Hah - funny coincidence; right after I replied to you, this Hummer ad came on TV with the refrain “World, the time has come to … push the button.”
(I guess it has a self-driving function.)
@Kyeh @sammydog01 The Spirit Halloween store near me opened this past weekend, a few stores down from the Dollar Tree.
I’m sad that the 99 Cents Only stores bit the dust here. They would have the best decorations and the good stuff usually gone by the end of August. It’s where I found the Zombie Gnomes.
@ironcheftoni We used to go to California around this time of year (first to visit my grandparents after they were too old to travel, later to check on the condo before it sold), and I LOVED checking out the Halloween stuff at 99 Cents Only! They really did have great, different stuff (than we had in the Midwest), and it was also fun to watch middle schoolers awkwardly flirt (I don’t know why there were always middle schoolers flirting around the Halloween decor, but they were there and adorable). I never bought anything because shipping it back seemed ridiculous. And now I can’t, because they don’t exist and we’re not flying out there anyway (so I do kind of think they’re still here, and that one incredible strip mall full of thrift stores in Poway is still extant).
I saw this car today:
Halloween stuff is half price at bath and body works this weekend. Because it’s August I guess. I ordered two soap holders. And soap.
Menards has a 20’ tall “Frankenstein” inflatable. Can’t speak to the price as I don’t use those type of decorations.
/showme a scary frankenstein inflatable as tall as a skyscraper next to a suburban split level ranch house
@mediocrebot I think you missed the split level ranch request, and also messed up on the relative height, but ok. Maybe the split is towards the back. That must have been a rather underwhelming skyscraper…
