If you think Sphero's fun, you should meet his cousin.

Do you guys look forward to these days as much as we do? Working directly with the Orbotix guys - they make Sphero - is one of the most enjoyable parts of our jobs. No diss intended to all those companies who make the dull necessaries of life. It’s just a hell of a lot more fun to sell stuff like this. (Psst, hey, Orbotix, if you ever need test pilots for your experimental creations, we stand ready to serve.)

Ollie is a little more traditional than Sphero. A little less magical. But as you quickly learn when you play with it, Ollie is actually even more fun. Check out our own @moose having a blast in this video:

Ollie’s two-wheeled, barrel-shaped body gives it certain advantages over Sphero’s rolling ball. For one thing, it’s faster. Its 14 MPH top speed is almost three times faster than Sphero. A race between Ollies is a frantic, chaotic, high-speed mad dash, prone to spectacular crashes at every turn.

For another thing, it can handle much more rugged terrain. Ollie won’t get bogged down on rocky surfaces or deep-pile carpet. And for a third thing, Ollie can do all kinds of tricks and spins and flips that Sphero just can’t handle.

We really like Sphero. We think it’s a brilliant reinvention of the remote-control toy. But Ollie, by combining the best of old and new, is frankly the superior toy right now. Now we can’t wait for the next addition to the family. (Like we said, Orbotix, if you need test pilots…)
