Civilization is hot water.

Mastery over fire was a big deal for our young species. But it wasn’t until we figured out how to use fire to heat water that our stumble into history really got moving. Imagine a world without soup, hot baths, sterilized water, tea, steam power, hard-boiled eggs, hot chocolate, spaghetti, oatmeal, mac ‘n’ cheese, ramen noodles, coffee, beer- OK, we’re scaring ourselves here. The point is, no hot water, no Homo.

Keep that in mind if you’re tempted to scoff at the hot-water dispenser grafted onto the side of an otherwise pedestrian Mr. Coffee machine. Sure, it seems just a tad redundant, given the many other ways there are to heat water. And in a perfect world, the hot water in this reservoir would always be ready to flow, rather than taking a couple of minutes to heat up.

But hey, people like different things. If you like coffee and your domestic partner likes tea, it’s probably nice to be able to dispense some super-hot water at the same time and place as you’re making your coffee. Its 4.1-star average rating on Amazon shows that hot water’s place at the center of human society remains intact.

So do what you dig. Whatever gets your noodles wet, bro. This hot-water-dispensing Mr. Coffee earns its place in the rich tradition of hot-water-borne human comforts. We just don’t recommend using it to heat up your bath.
