Luxury is Relative
When you picture a luxury car, what do you see? Eye-catching design. Woodgrain paneling throughout the interior. Heated leather seats. Smooth lines. A variety of features providing high-tech convenience. How about a luxury hotel? An enormous plush bed. A view. A tub the size of a pool. Chandeliers over a lobby of pristine marble floors and victorian furniture, for the classically-inclined. Sharp hardwoods, muted colors, and leather couches for the more modern.
Luxury is style. Luxury is decadence. Unless you’re talking about griddle, in which case luxury is defined by a far more simple metric: width.
Just look at this Anywhere Double-Burner Griddle. If it were a luxury car, it would be two Toyota Corollas welded together. If it were luxury hotel, it would be a Best Western on top of another Best Western. There is no smart technology. There is no vintage trim. There is no camera anywhere in it. It is a slab of cast aluminum. The slab can be placed over two of your stove’s burners. You turn the burners on and it gets hot enough to cook something. That’s it.
And yet it is decidedly luxurious. It means more pancakes. It means, one pound of bacon for brunch? Hell, why not two. It means, no more hamburgers or hotdogs; in this house, we make hamburgers AND hot dogs. It means cooking double the food and washing single the dish.
So yes: this is a luxury item if you really think about it. It’s just a different kind: easy luxury, lazy luxury, simple luxury. Really, when you think about it, it’s budget-model luxury.
