The Great King Art
“Many a week have I waited here at this stone, in which is lodged a great sword, waiting to see who could pull it forth and claim to be its master! And alas! Here comes the man now!”
“Who? Me? No, I think you have me confused with someone else.”
“But are you not the great King Arthur?”
“No, I’m King Art.”
“What’s the difference?”
“King Arthur is the one with the knights, the round table, all that stuff. Me, I’ve got my own thing.”
“Which is?”
“Well, for starters, I’ve got this great art set. 36 watercolor markers. 36 fineliners. Plus, a 60 page heavy duty paper pad. In other words, everything you would need to make art, whether you like to dabble and doodle or you’re a master.”
“So, you won’t be pulling the sword from the stone?”
“Nope. I’ll probably just take all this stuff I’ve got and draw a pretty little picture of it. After all, a noble sword stuck in the stone? That’s not something you see every day!”
“But will you take the drawing with you?”
“I mean, I guess.”
“So, in a way, you could say that you’ve taken the sword–or its essence–away from this place, which is like removing it from the stone!”
“You seem really hung up on this, you know?”
“I’ve been here a long time. I just want to say I saw the sword taken from the stone so I can go home, okay?”
