Altruism score?
11Okay…guess I’m new enough to not understand how this is calculated. I have given out 46 likes, but Meh is still calling me stingy and giving me an altruism score of 0.9. When I look at other profiles, I see others with a higher score, but they have given out fewer likes. What am I missing?

It has to do with how often you comment vs how often you star.
@Ignorant
Got it. Liking AND commenting are part of the calculation. Thanks for the info.
@gogrrl @Ignorant if you are on a PC and hover over altruism on your profile, it will show you exactly how it’s calculated. It has to do with the more you comment and post new threads divided by how many likes you have given. So the more chatty you are the more likes you need to give.
@Ignorant @RiotDemon
Thanks. I’m mostly on my phone so didn’t see that info. I tried clicking on the word “altruism” since it was underlined, but nothing happened. Guess I will have to adjust my chatty/likes ratio.
@gogrrl @Ignorant @RiotDemon Or ignore your altruism score completely and carry on. (grin)
What’s a good score?
@Tadlem43 I think once it hits 1 or above it changes from stingy to something else.
@Tadlem43 I’m reliable with an altruism score of 12.9
@callow lol I must really suck. Mine’s 2.2.
"In the forum, Tadlem43 is usually up for a chin-wag with 2 topics created, 181 comments, and 344 replies. Tadlem43 is a reliable source of handing out likes to other people’s posts, having doled out 1139 (for an altruism score of 2.2). Tadlem43’s posts have received 956 likes. "
@callow @Tadlem43 don’t worry about it. In general if I notice that someone has a low score, I just assume they don’t read much, or don’t care to star.
I’ve given out a lot of likes and my score isn’t nearly as high as callow’s… But if you look at how many I’ve given, you can tell I’m around.
@RiotDemon @Tadlem43 I’m a lurker. I read and star waaaay more than I talk. That’s all it means. You guys are more interesting.
@RiotDemon @Tadlem43 Im not sure it’s 1 altough finally hit 1.0… I forget to star sometimes and people like cat pictures too much.
@unksol maybe it needs to be 1.0001 to register.
@callow @Tadlem43
I guess I’m much more of a lurker given my 22.9 altruism score
When it comes to clicking things on Meh…
@shahnm Joshua was wise.
However… not shown in that algorithm: the more times you look at your own Altruism score the more it goes down.
@RedOak That’s believable on a site like Meh.
@RedOak but how do they know you’re looking at your altruism score versus your meh button streak? They’re in the same paragraph
@mbersiam doesn’t matter, if you’re vainly looking at any of that stuff your Altruism score takes a hit.
And you can see the Meh click data that matters, the streak, on the home page.
@PooltoyWolf @RedOak @mbersiam
Believable, but not true.
@Kyeh @mbersiam @PooltoyWolf @RedOak my brain sometimes refuses to let me star sad things. Because internally I think a star is a positive. Vs just a thanks for sharing.
@RedOak On a side note, I refused to push the Meh button for a long time because I thought it meant you couldn’t buy something if you did want it.
UPDATE…I just moved from “stingy” to “reliable”. @RiotDemon was correct. The magic number is 1.0. Now that I’m there, I’m having a true Meh moment. Such is life.
Ok so since you said it, I had to go look at my score. I am a true stingy lurker, with a 0.1 score, to which I say, “Meh.”
Don’t feel compelled to just click a star on everything; it’s a mostly meaningless statistic, like consecutive MEH clicks, now that I missed one recently. It’s a gentle nudge to interact in the forums, so I guess it’s working.
Just try clicking on the cow 1 million times…
