I’d say if it’s carbonated, serve it cold. I don’t think I’ve ever had a hot carbonated beverage. Also the flavor is “Hot” Chocolate. With the “Hot” in quotations marks, I think all signs point towards this being intended to being served cold.
You could also try half of it cold and half of it hot to see which is better.
Do keep us updated on what you decide and how it tastes. I’m always curious about new soda flavors (and usually disappointed, but I keep trying them.).
@gt0163c@ironcheftoni I was actually served hot DP at a concert in the Dr Pepper concert series back in the 60’s; they were promoting it and giving free drinks of such. Liked it then and occasionally still have it now – sometimes when I have a sore throat I prefer it to hot tea (and might spike it with bourbon and honey) – I just microwave it in a coffee mug, add lemon. Then there is this.
@compunaut@RiotDemon@tinamarie1974
That’s the best, I looked all winter for it and was so disappointed I never found it. Usually meijers has their own brand and it’s really good.
@ironcheftoni@sammydog01 I feel like it would be hard to snort cinnamon! Lol, never tried it as they didn’t offer it in diet, but I know several people on here raved about it!!
@cinoclav I stocked up too but it’s long gone. My son still has a bottle of Skittle flavored Mountain Dew in the fridge that he’s keeping for sentimental value.
@ironcheftoni I just picked up some Coca-Cola Coffee tonight to try. It was only $1 so no great loss if it sucks.
That being said I am hoping, but doubtful, that it is as good as Coca-Cola BlāK from about 15 years ago.
@ironcheftoni SAME w/the cinnamon coke love! we stumbled across 3 cases of it at a Kroger about 1 week BC (before corona) and we still had some stocked up because we loved it so much. Bought them all & at this point we still have about 3 6-packs of the smaller cans & 4 cases of the regular cans left. We use them as treats at this point trying to stretch them for as long a possible. Those need to be permanent!! (Orange coke isn’t completely horrible, but it’s no cinnamon coke. We thought it was more of a dreamsicle flavor.)
@ironcheftoni Tried all three of the coca-cola-coffee flavors. Of the three, the Dark is by far the worst, combining both the sugary mess that’s coke with the astringency of coffee in cruel and unusual ways, I’d suggest avoiding it.
Caramel, on the other hand, manages to be almost too sweet, wiping out the expected bite and replacing it with the burnt-sweet of caramel. Not suggested on its own, but it does make a pretty good mixer.
Vanilla is probably the best of the three for sipping, the classic vanilla coke notes work to round off their coffee blend, leaving something more akin to the expected notes of a sugary carbonated drink with just a little more depth.
Wouldn’t drink more than one or two cans of any of them, but they are a novelty worth trying once. Except possibly the Dark Blend, that can crawl back into the cthonic depths from which it was forged.
@awilkey@ironcheftoni
my experience with them is the direct opposite.
They are all Fantastic!
while I agree, that they don’t sound like the flavors should work together, the blend is DEEELICIOUS!
the Dark blend is My favorite!
@awilkey I’ve tried the cinnamon. It was interesting and I wish it was in a zero version. I’ve never heard of the caramel one. Not even in the multitude of flavors fountains
Ok, so I decided to chill the beverage, because carbonation. It smelled odd at best, so I was concerned. That said, after the first swig I found it to be quite tasty.
Not a perfect cup of coco, but a reasonable facsimile in cold carbonated form.
Would I drink another? All things being equal, yes…but no diet and at 150 calories a can, I will pass!!
If you get the opportunity to try it give it a taste!!
@tinamarie1974 We have a local sandwich shop that has a reputation for their large selection of sodas that you never heard of or thought had went out of business decades ago. So many great flavors it makes me wish I could drink as much soda as I want without killing myself.
@yakkoTDI we have one of those here in the Lou as well. I usually stick to the Diet Pepsi, but maybe I will take a look at the specialty soda section next time. @Mike808 have you tried Gioias on the hill? Best stuff EV-ER
I believe there is some sort of fire sale / remaindering process for defunct brand names on things like soda and candy – presumably the recipe comes with it. So if you are so inclined and are mad at your own teeth, you can pay a premium for a pack of Chuckles or bottle of Green River, which will look and maybe taste the same as you remember but probably comes from a completely different place.
@tinamarie1974 Yeah. The fried baloney sammich is the shiznit. I miss Amighetti’s though. We are indeed blessed with Volpi for prosciutto, coppa, pancetta, and the rest. The Volpi fresh salami is amazing right off the slicer.
@tinamarie1974 Thanks for the review. I was wondering what you had decided and what you thought. Anyone have any idea where I can find a can of this to try for myself?
@gt0163c it was a Twitter promo and you had to win the cans, they were totally free. If you don’t know anyone who won I think I saw them for sale at a ridiculous price on ebay
As I have asserted here numerous times, Pepsi is the nectar of the gods. So that’s a good start. Unfortunately, chocolate is evil and almost certainly was cast upon the earth from the very depths of Hell by Satan himself. So there ya go. Take something good, add in a little poison pill, and all the goodness withers and dies.
Brain says hot, taste buds say cold.
@riskybryzness same!!
The flavor is “Hot” Chocloate with the scare quotes, so that means “not really Hot”. So I’d go cold.

@gt0163c you must not have had hot Dr Pepper. It’s awesome (hit me with your best shot meh-bot) with a little sliver of lemon.
OWLS! TOWELS! JOWLS! AWESOME!

@gt0163c @ironcheftoni @phendrick That looks delicious! I’ve seen a recipe for Dr. Pepper pulled pork, too.
Tepid?

@RiotDemon that looks amazing
@RiotDemon @tinamarie1974 Hot chocolate ice cream is VERY tasty.
@compunaut @RiotDemon ooohhhhh that sounds awesome
PANS! GLANDS! CRAYONS! AWESOME!

@compunaut @RiotDemon I DID just get that Cuisinart ice cream maker…

That’s the best, I looked all winter for it and was so disappointed I never found it. Usually meijers has their own brand and it’s really good.
So this was originally supposed to be a Super Bowl tie-in and at the time they called it something slightly different:
So there’s your answer in the mug, unless this “HOT” CHOCOLATE labeled can somehow contains something different from the “COCOA” COLA labeled cans.
My guess is that Big Coke wasn’t happy with the original name and it was easier to change the name than engage the legal team.
TLDR: Cold.
Sounds horrible. But the Coca-Cola Coffee Coke sounds awful too. If you dare to try it, please let us know and thanks for taking one for the team!
@ironcheftoni You know what was really good? Cinnamon Coke. I miss it.
@ironcheftoni @sammydog01 I feel like it would be hard to snort cinnamon! Lol, never tried it as they didn’t offer it in diet, but I know several people on here raved about it!!
@sammydog01 I stocked up on Cinnamon Coke when it was available. I’m down to about 10 cans left. Seemed to be a true love it or hate it drink.
@cinoclav I stocked up too but it’s long gone. My son still has a bottle of Skittle flavored Mountain Dew in the fridge that he’s keeping for sentimental value.
@ironcheftoni Still retaining a few cans of the Christmas Mountain Dew flavor. It sold out everywhere around us before mid-December.
My wife tried the Coca Cola coffee flavor and thought it was OK but not worth repeating,
@ironcheftoni I just picked up some Coca-Cola Coffee tonight to try. It was only $1 so no great loss if it sucks.
That being said I am hoping, but doubtful, that it is as good as Coca-Cola BlāK from about 15 years ago.
@ironcheftoni @sammydog01 @tinamarie1974
Savor the flavor up in herr.
@sammydog01 I have some cinnamon coke in my fridge! I had to try it… sure 'nuff… it tastes like Coke with cinnamon! lol
@ironcheftoni cinnamon coke was amazing…and perfect for adult beverages…orange coke is vile yet its still around…wtf coke?

@tinamarie1974 Now you need to compare it to Coco Fizz.
@yakkoTDI never heard of this…

@mike808 they don’t have fried bologna? Are you thinking of the bar downtown?
For those interested, some good food porn!
https://www.gioiasdeli.com/
@tinamarie1974 My bad. I meant the hot salami.
Surely you’ve had the hot salami before?
@mike808 ooohhhhhh haha, now that makes sense. I actually DO NOT like the hot salami, shocking right?!?!
I like a hot beef w volpi salami on toasted garlic cheese bread (provel) with giardinerra.
@tinamarie1974 Thanks for the review. I was wondering what you had decided and what you thought. Anyone have any idea where I can find a can of this to try for myself?

If it’s nasty, you can try some of this…
Or if you’re heading to the gym, maybe try this one.
Summer is coming.
@Felton10
Walter suggested this one.
@tinamarie1974 Did you see this week’s Mediocritees?
@Kyeh I had NOT, thank you for the FYI. Purchased one of each for my niece. She is all about Girl Power and Wonder Woman thanks to her crazy Aunt
/giphy superficial-lanky-faucet
@tinamarie1974 Yay! I think they’re super cute. Your niece is a lucky girl. Kind of an appropriate giphy…
@Kyeh I thought so too, that is why I left it!!!

So is this basically a Laverne with chocolate milk?
@macromeh omg, YES!!!
How much you wanna bet, there are people reading this going…huh???
@macromeh I love the Laverne. Do not make them with anything but whole milk.
@macromeh @tinamarie1974
I’m going …huh???
@macromeh huh???

@Bjlauria @macromeh
Oh, okay - thanks!
I bet the hot chocolate Pepsi would be really good for this!
