@Num1Zero A d20 isn’t inherently demonic. Depending upon your belief system, that might be a d13 or a d666 or some other number. I’m not aware of a twenty-abhorring religion, though I suppose that three-fingered/three-toed aliens might have one.
Bought one for my daughter who just moved into her first apartment and didn’t have a toaster. BECAUSE it’s stupid and useless. But it does in fact toast as advertised!
@CraigDanger@hchavers They might not even try. But then again, they also might be the kind of -gate gamers that think they’re automatically entitled to go there. May those assholes remain frustrated forever.
@CraigDanger Bafflingly, it won’t show up inline, but if I open the image in a new tab, it’ll download it instead of showing it in the browser. Also, I’ve never seen an HEVC still image in the wild before, so that’s new.
I’m guessing converting it into a jpeg would fix everything.
@CraigDanger@yakkoTDI It’s not the forum software that dislikes the file type, it’s the browser on the device being used to access the forum. The HTML code just serves up the cited content. Rendering occurs at the client end, not the server. Sometimes the file can be saved and then viewed with an image utility on the device, and sometimes it will display in one browser but not another. The more esoteric the image file type, the greater the chance of it not being supported.
@AaronLeeJohnson@hchavers If the popularity of D&D tie-in merch is anything to go by, Hasbro would have to be out of its tiny little corporate mind to let this one fall.
@AaronLeeJohnson I don’t mind outing myself as dork-adjacent, so:
The company that acquired the company that acquired DND, a little outfit called Hasbro, is phenomenally catastrophically bad at managing fandom IP. So it’s not that people are moving away from tabletop, or even from tactical fantasy tabletop in general. It’s that people are moving to spinoffs because Hasbro keeps pissing them off.
I don’t … uhh, none of my friends are looking … I don’t actually care enough to understand a lot of it. But if you want an accessible example of Hasbro’s consistent cackhandedness, see here. If it was a one-time error it would be forgivable, but these idiots call it Thursday.
@DrunkCat I suppose this counts as an unsolicited opinion, but I think only an ass would see the amount of AI-generated art around here, assume that everything at Meh is AI… and then go shouting about it like an incessant toddler.
Is there AI content on Meh? Sure. A lot of pictures. Are the product write-ups written by AI? Well, anything’s possible, but almost all of them I have read sounded human.
How many Meh write-ups can you find that you think are AI?
@xobzoo Much like the oft shared “AI” images on social media, human proof reading goes a long way. If you’re okay with stealing art there’s absolutely zero reason why you also wouldn’t be okay with stealing the written word.
@DrunkCat You have two separate and unrelated things there.
human proofreading is important
someone willing to steal one type of thing is likely willing to steal another type of thing
I think we agree on both of those, but I didn’t realize either of them were connected to the conversation. Reading between the lines, I might be discovering what this is all about.
Are you actually accusing them of using AI writing with no human intervention?
Or are you just angry that they’re using AI in any way at all?
@xobzoo More disappointment than angry. And given how laissez faire they are about images, “AI” slop writing is both easier to generate and harder to detect so what I’m saying is that it wouldn’t surprise me.
@DrunkCat Okay, but there’s a huge jump from “I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re using AI writing” to actively accusing them of using it.
Your daily rantjab at them is very squarely in the accusing realm (or, at least, that’s how it sounds to me).
If you have any actual evidence for it, that’s fine — you’re allowed to accuse. But if you’re just making things up, that’s looking a lot like libel, and you don’t have the moral high ground any more.
@xobzoo They use “AI” slop every day in the final image and everywhere else in the forums so. It’s not like “AI” users can ever be anything but the scum at the bottom of the morality barrel anyway.
Already got one (from one of the last 2 or 3 times this came up), but TIL that this toasts a D20 outline in the toast. F’in AWESOME. Mine is for our White Elephant (Yankee Swap) for Christmas 2025, and this factoid will just improve its overall value, either downward or upward, both work for a White Elephant.
My hubby runs an online D&D game. I grabbed one of these for next time he needs a gift for one of his players. Then again, he may decide to keep it for himself, because he’s a big nerd.

@troy Nope. Sorry. I did go look as I get the emails. Read the negative reviews and they seemed to mostly mention the same group of problems which would indicate there is likely an issue. I have bought and returned 2 toasters so far as I had the same problems the others did with the negative reviews. The biggest things I care about is that it toasts evenly (apparently an issue with many toasters and both the ones I bought), takes up less space than some of them (small amount of kitchen counter), doesn’t break after a short period of time. Not looking for fancy functions as I use the thing to mostly toast bread and occasionally bagels.
@Kidsandliz you and me both. I have never played D&D, but I do appreciate the weirdness of this thing. My current toaster is slowly dying but still works, but this toaster’s unique design seems like it takes up a lot of valuable counter real estate.
This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen on Meh. Not complaining, to be clear. But “what if a toaster had a MUCH bigger footprint?” is not a question I needed answered.

Finally, something useful
Whose idea was this?
@pizzarulz I think it was this guy:
This feels off…. Demonic toaster? My mom always warned me about the devil in dungeons and dragons! Say no and damn this to hell!
@Num1Zero A d20 isn’t inherently demonic. Depending upon your belief system, that might be a d13 or a d666 or some other number. I’m not aware of a twenty-abhorring religion, though I suppose that three-fingered/three-toed aliens might have one.
I prefer Halo 3.
Bought one for my daughter who just moved into her first apartment and didn’t have a toaster. BECAUSE it’s stupid and useless. But it does in fact toast as advertised!
@CraigDanger I give up on trying to post pictures in the forum
@CraigDanger and the kind of guys attracted to D&D toasters will never get to second base.
@CraigDanger @hchavers They might not even try. But then again, they also might be the kind of -gate gamers that think they’re automatically entitled to go there. May those assholes remain frustrated forever.
@CraigDanger Maybe it is because of the file type you are trying to post. I doubt the forum software likes heic files.
@CraigDanger showing up fine on my phone fwiw!
@hchavers you’ve sussed out my plan…
@agnesnutter that’s so weird… Doesn’t show up on mine, the one from which I uploaded the picture lol
@CraigDanger Bafflingly, it won’t show up inline, but if I open the image in a new tab, it’ll download it instead of showing it in the browser. Also, I’ve never seen an HEVC still image in the wild before, so that’s new.

This deal burns my buns.
@phendrick But does it toast your bagels?
Would be an instant buy if it burned a random number into your toast. As it is, meh.
@NapkinEater
People are saying these are just rebranded, left-over Odesza toasters. I’m not saying it. But people are.
@amerifolklegend This means you are not a person?
Meh.
My DM was telling me the other day that DND as a popular game was being phased out. Is this indicative of that?
@AaronLeeJohnson no. This is indicative of the dorks that work at Meh and many in their customer base.
@AaronLeeJohnson @hchavers If the popularity of D&D tie-in merch is anything to go by, Hasbro would have to be out of its tiny little corporate mind to let this one fall.
@AaronLeeJohnson wizards of the coast is basically doing this, but with constantly pissing people off
@AaronLeeJohnson I was never very into D&D but everyone I know that used to be switched over to Pathfinder 10+ years ago.
@AaronLeeJohnson I don’t mind outing myself as dork-adjacent, so:

Not worth my $5 anymore
AI gifs, AI write ups. Imagine cucking yourself with autocompletes.
@DrunkCat I don’t think it helps your cause when you call a writer’s work AI.
@dave How can anyone be sure though with such gleeful use of AI everywhere else?
@DrunkCat I suppose this counts as an unsolicited opinion, but I think only an ass would see the amount of AI-generated art around here, assume that everything at Meh is AI… and then go shouting about it like an incessant toddler.

…what?
Gonna need a bigger discount to pull the trigger on this trash
@dpease these were very recently $70 on Amazon. Some resellers probably got ahold of our previous mehrathon offers
@troy there’s some sick people out there, no doubt about it

@Pony Should’ve grabbed two. One for gift, one for keeps.
Wattage??
Too big for my tiny countertop. I do need a toaster though.
@Kidsandliz Did I get you with the SideDeal?
@troy Nope. Sorry. I did go look as I get the emails. Read the negative reviews and they seemed to mostly mention the same group of problems which would indicate there is likely an issue. Wow… That’s a niche market.
(Borne out by the fact 80 sold in 10 hrs…)
If I buy this, am I then officially designated as a [insert type of person below]?
[VolMod Edit Ig]
@ChrisHBelAir fyi, no one uses that word anymore,
A super cool deal hunter?
Yes it does
Christmas shopping has officially begun thank you
This is ridiculous. Gonna have to get one when I get home
I was going to buy this but I didn’t see a nearing expiration date on it.
This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen on Meh. Not complaining, to be clear. But “what if a toaster had a MUCH bigger footprint?” is not a question I needed answered.
I’ll say it. I’m proud of you
@mambocab wastes extra counter space and does a shoddy job of actually toasting bread
the most meh product ever.
(sure hope the buyers only paid like $0.50 per unit)
@mambocab Me to my lifelong-RPGer husband last night: I’ve found it. I’ve found the dumbest product tie-in that ever was or will be.
@mambocab @visioneer_one we paid MUCH higher
I want this. Because D&D and toast.
But I can’t justify it as a purchase.
So just send it for free OK?
@f00l Well, you might get it for “free” in your next $50 IRK…
You rolled a total of 20
/roll d20
(or maybe not)
